Robert “Bob” R. Brannock
Retired Letter Carrier

Hertford, NC - Robert “Bob” R. Brannock, age 73, of 106 Waterview Street, Hertford, NC, died Sunday, August 22, 2004 in Brian Center Nursing Home. He was a native of Champaign, IL, and was the son of the late Rodney Brannock, Jr., and Ruth Brelstord Brannock. He was the husband of Thelma Turner Brannock of the residence. Mr. Brannock served in the US Army and was a retired Letter Carrier for the US Postal Service, and attended Grace United Methodisit Church. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #6060, and the National Association of Letter Carriers, and the National America Retired Federal Employee, and was a former Boy Scout Leader.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Gail B. Ledbetter and her husband Jay of Stanford, MT, Susan B. Gaul and her husband Rick of Urbana, IL; two sons, Bill Brannock of St. Joseph, IL, and Tom Brannock of Indiatlantic, FL; two step daughters, Denise C. Price and her husband, Blair of Raleigh, NC, and Donna Curts and her husband Sid of Mahomet, IL; two step sons, Andre Chepan and his wife Debbie of Elizabeth City, NC, and Doug Chepan and his wife Beth of Champaign, IL; four grandchildren, Nick and Taylor Brannock, and Elizabeth and Brian Chepan; four step grandchildren, Chris and Courtney Hinton, Holly Wolfe, and Jennifer Voorhees; two step great grandchildren, Cayla and C.J. Wolfe

A memorial service with Military Honors presented by the William Clarence Jackson VFW Post #6060, will be Thursday, August 26, 2004 at 1:00 PM in Twiford Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC, with the Rev. William C. Holmes officiating. The family will receive friends in the lobby of the funeral home immediately following the memorial service. At other times the family will be at the residence, 106 Waterview Street, Hertford, NC. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to The Michael J. Minnie Ross Brake

Minnie Ross Brake, age 89, of Duck, NC, formerly of Rocky Mount, NC, died September 1, 2004. She was born in Aurora, NC on August 25th, 1915 to Wilbur H. Ross and Emily Mae Redditt Ross. Her husband, William H. Brake, Sr. and her sister, Wilma Ross Garris, preceded her in death.

From the time Minnie was a little girl, she wanted to be a school teacher. She graduated with degrees from East Carolina University and Atlantic Christian College. She especially loved teaching seventh grade math and taught 20 years with the Nash County School System.

Minnie was very active in both the Nash and Edgecombe County communities. Some of her favorite activities included the Altrusia Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, West Edgecombe Home Demonstration Club, Bridge Club, Meals on Wheels and the Rocky Mount Fair. In addition she was a charter and active member of Christ Episcopal Church serving as its first female lay reader. Minnie’s special energy, spirit and wit added joy to all who knew her, a life well lived leaving memories that will linger on.

Son William Howard Brake, Jr. and wife Jeannie of Duck, NC; daughter Katherine Brake Pittman and husband Mike of Cary, NC, survive her. Grandchildren include Dr. Elizabeth Ellen Brake of Calgary, Canada; Matthew Robert William Brake of Pittsburgh, PA; Robert Michael Pittman, Jr. of Cary; Emily Brake Pittman Burt of Apex, NC; Abigail Payton Burt, her first great-grandchild was born August 14, 2004 and helped celebrate Minnie’s 89th birthday on August 25th.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 4, 2004 at 11:00 AM at the Brake Family Cemetery on Cokey Road Ext., in the West Edgecombe Community. The officiating clergy will be the Rev’d Charles E.B. Gill, Rector of St. Andrews By-the-Sea, Nags Head, NC. Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather at the home of Joe and Joanne Brake, 2742 Cokey Road Ext., Rocky Mount, NC.

LORRAINE BRADY
Native of New York City

Lorraine Brady, 74, of Elizabeth City, NC died Monday, February 10, 2003 in the Winslow Memorial Home. She was born in New York City, NY to the late John and Mary McKeon Brady and resided locally in Elizabeth City, NC at the home of her nephew and niece, Dennis and Edie Melville. She was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and was a retired supermarket employee.

Miss Brady is survived by a sister, Eleanor Melville of Elizabeth City, NC, two brothers Robert Brady of New York and Joseph Brady of Florida; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Thomas Brady, Martin Brady, Edward Brady and Donald Brady.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 15, 2003 at 9:30am in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kings Park, NY. There will be a visitation in the Clayton Funeral Home, Kings Park, New York Thursday from 7:00 until 9:00pm and Friday from 2:00 until 5:00pm and also 7:00 until 9:00pm. The body has been sent from Twiford Funeral Home, Elizabeth City, NC to the Clayton Funeral Home, 25 Meadow Rd., Kings Park, NY.

Charles Goodwin Bradley

Moyock, NC – Charles “Goodie” Goodwin Bradley, 72, went to be with the Lord after a long illness on Sunday, April 18th, 2004. He was known for being loving, easy going, and a gentle man.

He is survived by his Loving wife of 37 years Barbara L. Bradley; sons Charles Goodwin Bradley III and wife Amy, David Charles Bradley and wife Rhonda; stepdaughter Cheryl Seminole; stepson Henry Bachman Jr.; sister Arrow Hoag of Casnovia NY; grandchildren Megan Bradley, Devan Bradley, Ashley Davis, Sarah Bradley, Madison Bradley, Grady Edwards, Heather Palmer, Stephanie Edwards; great grandchildren Hailee Evans and Mya Castle.

A memorial service will be held at the Twiford’s Colonial Chapel 929 S. Battlefield Blvd in Chesapeake on Wednesday, April 21st at 2 PM with the Reverend David Dalton officiating. An open house will be held at the family residence on Guinea Mill Road in Moyock afterwards.

Sarah F. Brabble

Sarah Forbes Brabble, age 85, of 228 Maple Rd., Maple, NC died Monday, November 25, 2002 at Albemarle Hospital. She was born in Currituck Co., NC; daughter of the late John S. and Elizabeth Sawyer Forbes and was the widow of Johnny Brabble. She was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church.

Mrs. Brabble is survived by several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, November 29, 2002 at 2:00 PM in Rehoboth Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Pace and Rev. Bobby Owens officiating. Burial will follow in the Snowden Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the burial.

Janet Boyling

Janet A. Boyling, 53, of Nashville, TN, died Friday, March 7, 2003 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She was born in Elizabeth City, NC, daughter of Myra C. Adkins of Elizabeth City, NC and the late George B. Adkins. She had been a resident of Nashville for the past thirty years, was a homemaker, and a member of Natchez Trace Church of Christ.

Besides her mother, she is survived by a son, Matthew B. Boyling of Nashville, TN; a sister, Nancy Palmer and husband Jim of Oldsmar, FL; two nieces, Megan and Lindsey Palmer of Oldsmar, FL; an uncle, Joe Ray Chandler of Nashville, TN; and a great aunt, Ila Rue Phillips of Hermitage, TN.

A graveside service will be conducted on Tuesday, March 11, 2003 at 2:00 PM at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery by the Rev. Rob Albright. A funeral service was held in Tennessee on Sunday, March 9, 2003.

Diana Bowers

BUXTON, NC - DIANA LYNN BOWERS, 46, of Buxton, NC died Saturday, July 26, 2003 in an Elizabeth City hospital. Ms. Bowers was born in Rome, GA and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Hatteras Island Chapter 303 of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of Little Grove United Methodist Church. She was the daughter of the late James Freeman Crawford, Jr. and the late Barbara Sorells Crawford.

Ms. Bowers is survived by two daughters, Barbara Ann Barnett of Buffalo, SC and Patricia Mae Smith of Skyco, NC; two sons, Cain Bowers and Corbin Bowers, both of Buxton, NC; a sister, Debbie Adams of Cedartown, GA; three brothers, Jimmie L. Crawford and Donald R. Crawford, both of Cedartown, GA and Dan Sherman of Rockmart, GA; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services and Eastern Star Rites will be held at Little Grove United Methodist Church, Frisco, NC on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Jim Huskins, Rev. Dwight Burrus and Rev. Charles Mosley officiating. Burial will be in the Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday evening from 8:00 to 10:00 pm.

Mrs. Sanburn “Sannie” Pritchard Boswood

Maple, NC - Mrs. Sanburn “Sannie” Pritchard Boswood, 80, a resident of Shiloh Church Road Bailey, N. C., and a former resident of Maple, N. C., died Monday morning in Kill Devil Hills, N. C.

She was born in the South Mills Community of Camden County, N. C., and was the daughter of the late Sanburn Leary and Beulah Leah Dailey Pritchard. She was preceded in death by her husband William Lionel Boswood on June 24, 1996.

She was a member of the Moyock Baptist Church, the South Mills Chapter #270 of the Order of the Eastern Star, and was a former member of the Currituck County Home Demonstration Club.

Survivors include her daughter; Eula B. Joyner of Wilson, N. C. and one son Charles Willoughby “Wib” Boswood of Gates County, N. C. and two grandchildren Lisa Lynette Neil and Charles Cleveland Boswood and three great-grandchildren, Jacquelyn Bailey Boswood, Jessica Louise Neil and David Wayne Neil.

A funeral service will be held Thursday July 8, 2004, at 3:30 P. M. at Twiford Memorial Chapel in Elizabeth City, N. C. with the Rev. Charles Wellons officiating. The South Mills Chapter # 270 of the Order of the Eastern Star will conduct the burial rites in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 P. M. at Twiford Funeral Home 405 East Church Street Elizabeth City, NC, and other times at the home of Joyce Outlaw 601 West 3rd Street Kill Devil Hills, N. C.

William Alfred Boseman

Elizabeth City, NC - William Alfred Boseman, age 56, of 623 Libertator Street, Elizabeth City, NC, died Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at his residence. He was born in Elizabeth City, son of the late John Antonio and Gladys Mae Hudson Boseman. He was the husband of Stacy Tomlinson Boseman of the residence. He worked in the tree service business in Elizabeth City.

Besides his wife, Mr. Boseman is survived by three daughters, Stephanie, Miranda, and Hilarie Boseman all of Elizabeth City, NC; four sons, William A. Boseman, Jr. of Sunbury, NC, Jacob, Stephen Wayne, and Adrian Kyle Boseman all of Elizabeth City, NC; one sister, Gladys Rae Stanley of Elizabeth City, NC; three brothers, James Boseman of Elizabeth City, NC, Merle Boseman of Manteo, NC, Herman Boseman of New Hope, NC; five grandchildren.

Graveside service will be Friday, April 18, 2003 at 2:00 PM in New Hollywood Cemetery with the Rev. Dale Forbes officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM in Twiford’s Memorial Chapel.

Frances Jean Border

Chesapeake – Frances Jean Border, 73, died September 25, 2004 at Chesapeake General Hospital. Mrs. Border was born in Giles, W.V. to the late Roy Virgil and Bertie Alice Spaulding Adkins. She was an avid Golfer and Tennis player at Greenbrier Country Club.

Survivors include her husband, George Freer Border; three sons, Gary Lee Border and wife Julie Ann of Atlanta, GA, Grieg Freer Border and wife Rita Dawn of Wilmington, NC, and Joe Joe Border and wife Debrah of Chesapeake, VA; one brother, Jack Donald Adkins of Ohley, W.V.; six grandchildren, Christopher, Scott, Candice, Shaun, Jennifer, and Jamison; and one great grandchild, Camron.

The family will receive friends at Twiford’s Colonial Chapel, Chesapeake on Tue from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm and on Wednesday at 11:30 am with a service of remembrance immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to a charity of ones choice.

KNOTTS ISLAND, NC - CHARLES AMOS BOOTHE JR. 71, DIED AT HIS RESIDENCE WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 2003 WITH HIS FAMILY AT HIS SIDE. HE WAS BORN IN GALESBURG, IL TO THE LATE CHARLES AMOS BOOTHE SR. AND ROSE NORGART BOOTHE. MR. BOOTHE WAS A MEMBER OF KNOTTS ISLAND UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, AND OF THE ALPH LODGE #155, GALESBURG, IL. HE ENJOYED WATCHING HIS GRANDCHILDREN IN SPORTS AND WAS AN AVID NASCAR FAN.

SURVIORS INCLUDE HIS WIFE OF 49 YRS. SALLY THOMAS BOOTHE, THREE DAUGHTERS PEGGY B. SMITH, LORI CARR AND HER HUSBAND FRANK, AND VALERIE MCINDOE AND HER HUSBAND EARLE, ALL OF KNOTTS ISLAND, NC.; TWO SONS, NICK BOOTHE AND HIS WIFE YOGI OF VA BEACH, AND TOM BOOTHE AND HIS WIFE AMY OF RICHMOND; ELEVEN GRANDCHILDREN, CHARLES III, JEFF, MANDY AND HER HUSBAND DERIC, JUSTIN, NICOLE, VICTORIA, JESSICA, TYLER, CHASE, MITCH, AND MALIN; TWO GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN ELIJAH AND YASMIN; SEVERAL NIECES AND NEPHEWS AND FAITHFUL DOGS JAZZ AND CASEY AND HOST OF FRIENDS. Marguerite Booth

Manteo, NC - Marguerite Lyle Drinkwater Booth, 88, died on Saturday, May 29, 2004 at the Outer Banks Hospital. Mrs. Booth was born in Manteo and was owner of The Booth Guest House. She was a member of the Catholic Church and The Rebekah Lodge #52. She was the daughter of the late Alpheus Drinkwater and the late Rosa Lee Gray Drinkwater and the widow of John Lee Booth, Sr.

Mrs. Booth is survived by two sons, John Lee Booth, Jr. and wife, Noel and Robert Allen “Bobby” Booth, both of Manteo; three grandchildren, one great grandchild and five step-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Twiford’s Colony Chapel, Manteo on Friday, June 4, 2004 at 7:30 pm. Burial will be in the Manteo Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Booth Guest House, 101 Morrison Grove Road, Manteo on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Edward R. Boncek, Sr.

NAGS HEAD, NC - EDWARD RICHARD BONCEK, SR., formerly of Elizabeth City, passed away on April 27, 2004 at his son’s residence in Nags Head. A native of Pittsburgh, PA, he was born on November 1, 1929.

Mr. Boncek joined the Air Force in 1946 and was a veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam. Following retirement from the Air Force, he began a second career as an Electronics Technician with the FAA, which sent him to the Elizabeth City Airport on the Coast Guard Base in Weeksville, where he was responsible for navigational aids and teletype equipment in Buxton and Elizabeth City.

Mr. Boncek is survived by a son, Edward Richard Boncek, Jr., wife, Susan, and granddaughter, Alexandra of Nags Head and one daughter, Elyse Boncek of Kill Devil Hills. He is survived by brothers, John Boncek of Lillburn, GA, Bill Boncek of Herford, NC and Stanley Boncek of Castroville, TX, sisters, Rita Mae Hamling of Vero Beach, FL, Ann Rubino of Upper St. Clair, PA, JoAnn Licciardello of Pittsburgh, PA and Theresa Kelsey of Gun Barrell City, TX.

A memorial service will be held at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Elizabeth City at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, May 5, 2004. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Family Catholic Church Food Bank, 1453 N. Road Street, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.

Goldie Marie Blondheim

Elizabeth City – Goldie Marie Blondheim, 77, died at home after a long illness. Goldie was a caring, loving mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her daughter Linda Fly of Elizabeth City, NC; sons Francis David Blondheim of South Mills, NC, Larry Wayne Blondheim of Jacksonville, FL; sisters Bessie Byers of Seebring FL, Rosie Durr of Spring Hill FL, Cressie Roy of Stark FL, Mildred Drake of Wellsburg NY; brothers Edward Byers of Horsehead NY, Albert Byers of Stark FL, and Arthur Byers; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and 2 special friends John and Betty Goodwin from Akron, OH.

The family will receive friends at the Twiford’s Colonial Chapel 929 S. Battlefield Blvd. On Friday, February 27th from 6-8 PM. A funeral service will be held Saturday at the Twiford’s Chapel at 11 AM with committal to follow at Olive Branch Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at Dave’s residence in NC after the services.

Lewis B. Blanchard, Jr.

Lewis Beacher Blanchard, Jr., 63, of 270 North Indiantown Road, Shawboro, NC, died Monday, November 25, 2002 at Albemarle Hospital. He was born in Maple, NC, the son of Ruby Carawan Blanchard of Barco, NC and the late Lewis Beacher Blanchard, Sr. and was the husband of Rosa Roberts Blanchard of the home. He was a retired automotive school teacher with the Currituck County High School and was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Besides his wife and mother, Mr. Blanchard is survived by three daughters, Becky Thompson of Rockford, MI, Karen Allen of Buzzard's Bay, MA, and Donna Perdue of Shawboro, NC; one son, William Blanchard of Elizabeth City, NC; three sisters, Ann Wendling of Eagle Rock, VA, Anita Williams of Virginia Beach, VA, and Carolyn Litchfield of Clinton, MD; four brothers, James Blanchard of Virginia Beach, VA, Wayne Blanchard of Gatesville, NC, Thomas Blanchard of Harbinger, NC, and Edwin Blanchard of Cary, NC; and five grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, November 29, 2002 at 11:00 am at Emmanuel Baptist Church by the Rev. Ed Hawkins. Burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service and at other times at the residence.

Ruby Blanchard
Native of Beaufort Co., NC

Ruby Carawan Blanchard, age 82, of the 4000 block of Caratoke Highway, Barco, NC, died at her residence on Wednesday, December 31, 2003. She was born in Belhaven, NC, daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Annie Tripp Carawan. She was the widow of Lewis Beacher Blanchard, Sr. She had worked in sales at Blair Co., and in sewing at Supak Mfg. Co., and was a member of Coinjock Baptist church.

Mrs. Blanchard is survived by: three daughters, Patricia Ann Wendling of Eagle Rock, VA, Anita Williams of Virginia Beach, VA, and Carolyn Litchfield of Bowie, MD; four sons, James Richard Blanchard, of Virginia Beach, VA, Wayne Henry Blanchard of Shawboro, NC, Thomas David Blanchard of Harbinger, NC, and Charles Edwin Blanchard of Cary, NC; three brothers, Gene Carawan of Asheville, NC, Grover Carawan of Tampa, FL, and Ellis Carawan of Fairfax, VA; twenty one grandchildren, and thirty three great grandchildren. She was predeceased by one son Lewis B. Blanchard, Jr.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 3, 2004, at 1:00 PM in Twiford’s Memorial Chapel with Rev. Charles Wellons and Rev. Ed Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will be at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel Friday evening, 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM, and other times at the residence, 4117 Caratoke Highway, Barco, NC. Memorial donations may be made to Coinjock Baptist Church, 193 Worth Guard Road, Coinjock, NC 27923, or to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 109 Chadburn Ave. Elizabeth City, NC 27909.

William T. "Billy" Beacham

KITTY HAWK, NC - WILLIAM THOMAS “BILLY” BEACHAM, III, 71, of Kitty Hawk, NC, died Tuesday, August 24, 2004 in a Durham, NC hospital. Mr. Beacham, born in Amagansett, NY, was a retired Industrial Engineer of Boeing Aircraft Corp. and was a Baptist. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was the son of the late, William Thomas and Irma Partridge Beacham.

Mr. Beacham is survived by four daughters, Cathy Dandelakis of Marietta, GA, Patti Coxwell of Meridian, MS, Barbara Mohler of Fair Hope, AL, and Laura Saul of Poulsbo, WA; a son, Thomas A. Beacham of Kitty Hawk, NC; eight grandchildren; and his companion, Virginia Steinmetz.

A graveside service will be held in Austin Cemetery, Kitty Hawk, on Sunday, August 29, 2004 at 3:00 pm with Rev. Steve Siegrist officiating.
