Nettie Lewis
PELHAM, N.C. - Nettie Mae Wilson Lewis, 76, 2441 Old Highway 29, died Monday, Nov. 11, 1996, in her residence.
Born Aug. 6, 1920, in Reidsville, she was a daughter of Jake Wilson and Lola Peters Wilson.
She was married
to William Eugene "Bill" Lewis, who died June 1, 1990.
She spent most of her life in Pelham, where she was a homemaker. She was also of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three sons, Ronnie G. Lewis of Eden, Jerry W. Lewis of Summerfield, and Barry E. Lewis of Pelham; six daughters, Billie L. Sauceman of Dallas, Brenda L. Murphy of Clemmons, Barbara L. Beasley of Bluement, Va., Bonnie L. Patterson of Pelham, Beverly L. Cook of Danville, Va., and Kimberly M. Lewis of the residence; a brother, Jake Wilson Jr. of Reidsville; two sisters, Elizabeth Handy and Beatrice Dye, both of Reidsville; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from Shepherd Baptist Church on Route 700 in Ruffin by the Rev. Hubert Evans and the Rev. Samuel Edwards. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Swicegood Funeral Home, in Danville, Va., and other times at the residence, across from Sheldon Baptist Church.
Stella Flynn
GRAHAM, N.C. - Stella Sparks Flynn, 85, formerly of 426 Ward St., died Thursday, Nov. 14, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following a year and a half of declining health.
Born in Wilkes County, she was a daughter of William and Mary Billings Sparks.
She was married
to John Thomas Flynn, who predeceased her.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Isley Hosiery. She was a member of Riverside Baptist Church.
She is survived by two brothers, Rayford Sparks of Providence and Wheeler Sparks of Danville, Va.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday from McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Curtis V. Oakley. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park in Danville, Va.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 tonight at the funeral home.
Martha Inge
SALISBURY, N.C. - Martha Ann Shields Inge, 79, of 1406 Parkview Circle, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 1996, at Genesis Elder Care after a brief decline in health.
Born Sept. 4, 1917, in Pittsylvania County, Va., she was the daughter of Otelia Victoria and John David Shields.
She was a graduate of Pittsylvania County, Va., schools.
She was a homemaker and a member of Franklin Baptist Church and the Allie Wyatt Sunday school class.
Her husband, Cecil Joseph Inge, died on Feb. 25, 1973. She was also predeceased by a son, Carroll Lewis Inge, in 1950.
Survivors include two sons, Joseph Randall Inge of Matthews, and Jerry Page Inge of Greensboro; one daughter, Cecelia Ann Burleyson of Salisbury; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Monday at Franklin Baptist Church by the Rev. Larry Twitty. A graveside service will be conducted 3 p.m. Monday in Gretna (Va.) Burial Park.
The family received friends Sunday night at Summersett Funeral Home, Salisbury.
James 'Dick' Southern
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - James Robert "Dick" Southern, of 396 Dillard School Drive, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 1996, at his home.
Born July 4, 1927, in Caswell County, he was the son of Will and Ellen Lea Southern.
He was employed as a construction worker and a farm helper.
He was a member of Temple of Christ 1st Refugee Holy Church.
Survivors include his wife, Dorriane Spinner Robertson Southern of the home; three sons, Henry Wesley Southern of Roxboro; John Winslow Southern and James Robert Southern Jr. both of Yanceyville; three daughters, Onnie A. Southern, Deanne Southern and Betty Southern all of Yanceyville; two stepsons, Tony Anthony Robertson and David Lee Robertson Jr. both of Columbus, Ohio; two step-daughters, Sherry D. Robertson of Glascow, Va., and Joyce Marette Robertson of Yanceyville; three brothers, Bobby Lee Southern of Burlington; Roservelt Southern of Detroit; and Willie Lee Southern of Maryland; five sisters, Willie Mae Southern of Pelham, Penncie S. Scott of Yanceyville, Adeline Mitchell of Blanch, and Naomi Watlington of Yanceyville, and Juanita Brimm of Milton; 11 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hamer Baptist Church by the Rev. Bearnice Vincent. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Fulton Funeral Home, and other times will be at the home of his daughter, Onnie A. Southern, 19B Old Farm Apartments, Yanceyville.
Allen Jones
WEST YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Allen Waddell Jones, 68, 69 Locust St., died Sunday, Dec. 1, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 18, 1928, in Person County, he was a son of Jessie Jones and Lillie Castle Jones.
He was married
to Mary Katherine Jones, who survives.
He was employed by the U.S. Army for 20 years. He retired as staff sergeant, but also served as drill sergeant.
He was of the Protestant faith.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by a daughter, Nancy J. Maness of Yanceyville; two sons, Lawrence Jones of Germany and Mickie Lee Jones of Charlotte; a sister, Pearl J. Gilliland of Roxboro; and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from Prospect United Methodist Church by the Rev. Scott Wilkinson. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where full military honors will be given.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Marley Funeral Home in Yanceyville, and other times at the residence.
Paul Bray Sr.
REIDSVILLE, N.C. - Paul Wellsley Bray Sr., 62, of 1065 Garrison Road, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 1996, at Moses H. Cone Hospital in Greensboro.
A native of Pittsylvania County, Va., he was a charter member of Gurrant Baptist Church in Camp Springs, where he served as a deacon.
He was a member of the Rockingham County Coon Club, and for the last five years he worked in the maintenance department at Rockingham County Senior High School.
He served two years in the U.S. Army, in Germany, and served six years in the Army Reserves.
Survivors include his wife, Inez Lovelace Bray of the home; his mother, Elsie Chattin Bray of Reidsville; a daughter, Paula D. Bray of the home; a son, Paul Wellsley "June Bug" Bray Jr. of Reidsville; three brothers, Carl Wayne Bray and Norman W. Bray Sr. both of Reidsville, and Henry L. Bray of Ruffin; four sisters, Janice Sharpe and Vicky Bray Bray both of Reidsville, Nancy Goforth of Danville, and Wendy LaFlame of Keeling; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Clay Bray; a stepson, Dood Lovelace; a
step-daughter, Judy Page, and a grandson.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lawsonville Road Baptist Church. Burial will be in Reidlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7 to 9 tonight at Wilkerson Funeral Home, Reidsville, and other times will be at the residence.
Channie Walker
PROVIDENCE, N.C. - Channie Wade Walker, 6991 Highway 86 North, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 1996, in UNC-Chapel Hill Hospital.
Born Oct. 20, 1924, in Caswell County, she was a daughter of Bernard and Lennie Wade.
She was married
to Willie O. Walker, who survives.
She was a member of Bibleway Worldwide Church of Danville. She was self-employed.
In addition to her husband of the residence, she is survived by a son, Samuel Walker of Hillsboro; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from Bibleway Worldwide Church by Lawrence G. Campbell. Burial will be in Pearson Chapel AME Church Cemetery in Yanceyville.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at Fulton Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
Eddie Walton
PROVIDENCE, N.C. - Eddie Joel Walton, 54, 3215 Shady Grove Road, died Monday, Dec. 2, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following three years of declining health.
Born Sept. 21, 1942, in Gastonia, N.C., he was a son of Eddie Frank Walton and June Isenhour Walton, who survive.
He was married
to Barbara Gallager Walton, who predeceased him.
A graduate of Brosville High School, he was employed as a plumber for Dameron Plumbing and Heating Co. for many years. In his early years, he attended Forest Lawn Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents of Providence, survivors include three daughters, Jill Sorrell of Columbia, S.C., Lynn McVey of Danville, Va., and Kathy Davidson of Bristol, Tenn.; two sons, Em Walton of St. Louis and Eddie Walton of Bristol, Tenn.; and 14 grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday in Schoolfield Cemetery by the Rev. Jerry Joseph, the Rev. Daryl Joyce, and the Rev. Stephen Sorrell.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Swicegood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Douglas Foster
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Douglas Earl Foster, 80, formerly of Yanceyville, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 1996, in Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salisbury. He had been in declining health for several months.
Born Jan. 22, 1916, he was a son of Hiram Basley Foster Sr. and Eula Gatewood Foster.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army with the 321st Infantry, 81st Division in the south Pacific. He was a member of V.F.W. Post No. 7316 in Yanceyville.
He was also a member of Prospect United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a brother, Hiram Basley Foster Jr. of Yanceyville; and five sisters, Elizabeth F. Gunn of Yanceyville, Gladys F. Rorer of Chatham, Va., Rebecca F. Fuller of Greensboro, Jane F. Dunn of Rock Hill, S.C., and Ann F. Carroll of Providence.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Prospect United Methodist Church by the Rev. Scott Wilkinson. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where military rites will be given.
The family will receive friends immediately following the burial at the church.
