Edna Oakley
PROSPECT HILL, N.C. - Edna Barnwell Oakley, 84, 12397 Hwy. 86 South, died Wednesday, May 8, 1996, in her residence.
Born Dec. 25, 1911, in Caswell County, she was a daughter of Phillip Allen Barnwell and Cornelia Sexton Barnwell.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harvey Rufus Oakley.
She was a homemaker. She was also a member of New Lee Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Howard C. Oakley of Prospect Hill; three sisters, Hallie Burch of Prospect Hill, Bertha Cobb of Yanceyville; and Minnie Horton of Roxboro; one brother, Franklin Barnwell of Kinston; and one grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday from New Lee Bethel Baptist Church by the Rev. Roy Taylor and the Rev. Claude Harrelson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at Marley Funeral Home, in Yanceyville, and other times at the residence.
Annette Dillard
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Annette Diane Dillard, of Foster Trailer Park, Lot #1, Yanceyville, died Wednesday, May 8, 1996, in the UNC Chapel Hill Hospital.
Born Feb. 28, 1966, in Chapel Hill, she was a daughter of Payton Dillard and Margaret Robinson Dillard, who survives.
She was a member of Yanceyville Missionary Baptist Church.
She was employed by Burlington Industries.
In addition to her mother of the residence, survivors include one brother, Joseph Robinson of Yanceyville; and one sister, Stephanie Dillard of Yanceyville.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday from Yanceyville Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Melvin Paylor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Saturday at Fulton Funeral Home, in Yanceyville, and other times at the residence.
James Henderson Sr.
PELHAM, N.C. - James Arthur Henderson Sr., 40 Mount View Drive, Pelham, died Wednesday, May 8, 1996, at the Brian Center, in Yanceyville.
Born July 26, 1919, in Caswell County, he was a son of Ellis and Mary Holloway Henderson.
He was married
to Fannie Murphy Henderson, who survives.
He was a member of Red Hill Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.
He was employed by the Caswell County School System as a custodian, until his retirement.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include five sons, James Arthur Henderson Jr., John W. Henderson, Charles E. Henderson, Louis E. Henderson, and Michael R. Henderson, all of Pelham; three daughters, Mary H. Graves, Shirley H. Mitchell, and Deborah H. Paylor, all of Pelham; one brother, Americus Henderson of Yanceyville; 22 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from Red Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Gregory Hopkins. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body may viewed 2-8 tonight at Fulton Funeral Home, in Yanceyville. The family will receive friends at the residence.
Ida Hyler
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Ida Belle Howard Hyler, 85, 2020 N.C. 158 East, Yanceyville, N.C., died Thursday, May 9, 1996, at the Brian Center in Yanceyville, following several years of declining health.
Born Dec. 19, 1910, in Caswell County, she was a daughter of William Alexander Howard and Emma Jane Brandon Howard.
She was married
to Claude Wesley Hyler, who survives.
She was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church, and also a member of the United Methodist Women's group.
As a homemaker, she was a member of Prospect-Yanceyville Home Demonstration Club. She was retired from the Caswell County School System.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Mary Elizabeth McConnell of Boone; two sons, Claude Wesley Hyler Jr., of Kernersville, and William Earl Hyler of Yanceyville; one sister, Bertha Mae Lee of Danville, Va.; two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from Prospect United Methodist Church by the Rev. Scott Wilkerson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Marley Funeral Home, in Yanceyville, and other times at the residence of a son, Earl Hyler, from West Yanceyville.
Raymond Gourley
MILTON, N.C. - Raymond Carl Gourley, 80, of 208 Dix Road, died Friday, May 10, 1996, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 15, 1916, in Oak Park, Ill., he was a son of Delbert Raymond and Blanche Berg Gourley.
He retired as vice president of engineering for Dan River Inc. in 1982. He worked at Dan River for 40 years.
He was an alumnus of Georgia Tech and a graduate of Harvard Business School.
He was married
to Dr. Martha Howell Gourley, who died Aug. 15, 1992. She was a former guidance counselor at Danville Community College.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara G. Clampitt of Granite Falls, N.C.; a son, William S. Gourley of Golden, Colo.; two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
There will be no funeral service.
Barker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mabel Wilson
LEASBURG, N.C. - Mabel Hamlett Wilson, 81, of 1865 Highway 119 North, died Sunday, May 12, 1996, at Patton Family Care Center in Yanceyville. She had been in declining health for several months.
Born in Caswell County, she was the daughter of Robert A. and Lucy Jane Hamlett. She was educated in Caswell County schools and was a homemaker.
A member of Griers Presbyterian Church, she was former president of the Women of the Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty W. Byrd of Greensboro; one son, Thomas L. "Tommie" Wilson of Leasburg; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one step-great grandchild.
She was predeceased by her husband, Buck G. Wilson, who died Jan. 31, 1995. She was also preceded in death by wo sisters, Cora Marshall and Pearlie Nick, and three brothers, Willie Hamlett, Gleny Hamlett and Johnnie Hamlett.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Griers Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Hooper Funeral Home in Yanceyville.
John Wright
RUFFIN, N.C. - John Lawson Wright, 82, of 382 Mayfield Road, died Sunday, May 12, 1996, at Maplewood Nursing Center.
A native of Rockingham County, he was a life-long resident of Ruffin and a member of Ruffin United Methodist Church.
He was retired from Burlington Drapery Plant, and also had worked as a farmer.
Survivors include one son, Donald L. Wright of Providence, and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ruffin United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Ruffin Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at Wilkerson Funeral Home, and other times will be at the home of Louise Wright, 310 Mayfield Road.

George Edward Mimms
PELHAM, N.C. - George Edward Mimms, 7928 Chrysler St., Detroit, and formerly of Pelham, N.C., died Wednesday, May 8, 1996, in the Mercy Hospital of Detroit.
Born Sept. 13, 1926, in Sun, W.Va., he was a son of George and Janie Howard Mimms.
He was married
to Opal Mimms, who survives.
He was employed as a construction worker, until his retirement.
He was a member of the U.S. Navy, who served during World War II.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Sue Mimms of Anchorage, Alaska; and one sister, Burdia Mimms of Las Vegas.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday from Red Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Gregory Hopkins. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body may viewed Friday evening at Fulton Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at residence of his niece, Barbara Mimms, 188 Lanyne Mimms Farm Road, Pelham.
Joe Graves
LEASBURG, N.C. - Joe West Graves, 8520 Leasburg Road, Leasburg, N.C., died Thursday, May 16, in the Duke Medical Center of Durhan.
Born Sept. 3, 1936, in Caswell County, he was a son of George Hugh Graves and Ressie Watlington Graves, who survives.
He was married
to Helen Gwynn Graves, who survives.
He was employed by Cone Mill Plant, in Reidsville, until his retirement. He was also a member of Jones Crossroad Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of the home, and his mother of Reidsville, survivors include two sons, Shawn Dale Graves of Roxboro and Matthew Cecil Graves of Leasburg; one daughter, Cynthia Annette Graves of Leasburg; five brothers, Henry Lee Graves, Hugh Graves Jr., Isaiah Graves, and Eddie McCoy Graves, all of Reidsville, and McArthur Graves of Yanceyville; two sisters, Nannie Vinson of Yanceyville and Ruby Price of Burlington; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday from Blackwell Baptist Church by the Rev. Everett Dickerson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
