Maude Trent
LIBERTY, N.C. - Maude Reynolds Trent, 75, 2541 Lowbridge Road, died Monday afternoon, Nov. 10, 1997, at Ashboro Memorial Hospital in Ashboro. She had been in declining health for two years.
Born Sept. 14, 1922, in Henry County, Va., she was a daughter Ford C. Reynolds and Nannie Hammock Reynolds.
She was married
to George Washington Trent, who died March 15, 1982.
In 1972, she retired from Dan River Inc.
Most of her life was spent in Danville, Va., in the Ferry Road community before moving to Liberty in 1986.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three sons, Alexander Trent of Liberty, Jessie Ford Trent of Danville, and Larry Trent of Liberty; two daughters, Lillie Ellis of Danville and Iva Holland of Callands; four brothers, Darryl Reynolds of Ashboro, Douglas Reynolds and Dewey Reynolds, both of Danville, and William Reynolds of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a sister, Alvie Holt of Franklinville; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m., Thursday at the Swicegood Chapel by the Rev. Robert J. Barber Jr. Burial will be in Schoolfield Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of a granddaughter, Judy Ruhland, 552 Parker Road.
Omond Bliss
WILLOW SPRING, N.C. - Omond Neal Bliss, 55, of 2799 Mt. Pleasant Road, died on Nov. 11, 1997, in Piney Forest Health Care after four years of declining health and seven months in Piney Forest Health Care Center.
Born Feb. 25, 1942, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Elmer Asbury Bliss Sr., and Bessie Mae Guill Bliss, who survives.
Mr. Bliss had lived in the Raleigh area for the past 32 years.
He had retired from the Planning & Environment Branch of the North Carolina Department of Transportation as a project planning engineer with 28 years and 4 months service due to health reasons.
Mr. Bliss was a graduate of Dan River High School in 1960 and graduated from V.P.I. in 1964 with a degree in civil engineering.
He was a former member of Vandola Baptist Church of Danville, presently Woodberry Hills Baptist church.
In addition to his mother of Danville, survivors include two sisters, Mildred B. Orrell and Audrey B. Dawson, both of Danville; a brother, E.A. Bliss Jr. of Chester; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, James Calvin Bliss and Ronnie Lee Bliss.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, from Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel by the Rev. Lewis Harris. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his sister Mildred B. Orrell, 338 Norwood Drive off of North Main Street.
The family of Omond Neal Bliss suggests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Jack Hall Kidney Fund, P.O. Box 251, Danville, Virginia 24543.
Dillard Gannaway Sr.
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Dillard Franklin Gannaway Sr., 6618 Highway 86 South, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 1997, at his residence.
Born Feb. 24, 1925, in Caswell County, he was the son of Joseph Franklin Gannaway and Mary Helen Trollinger Gannaway.
He was married
to Ella Graves Gannaway, who survives.
He was a member of Providence Baptist Church.
He was a retired employee of Alamance County Memorial Hospital, where he worked in the maintenance department.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a son, Dillard Franklin Gannaway Jr. of Yanceyville; seven daughters, Faye B. Gannaway and Gladys G. Rollins of Harrisburg, Pa., and Katie G. Poteat, Gaye G. Poteat and Wanda G. McCandies, all of Yanceyville, and Vanessa G. Poole of Mebane and Helen G. Jeffries of Burlington; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m., Monday at Ebenezer Baptist Church by the Rev. B.R. Inge. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m., Sunday at Fulton Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
John 'Boat' Love
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - John Quincy "Boat" Love, 3879 Shomari Family Care Home, died Friday, Nov. 14, 1997.
Born June 1, 1916, in Caswell County, he was a son of John H. Love and Carrie Bigelow Love.
He was married
to Katie Bell Harrison Love, who predeceased him.
He was a member of High Rock Baptist Church.
He was a retired employee of Marshall Block Co.
Survivors include a daughter, Ann Newkirk of Detroit; two brothers, William Love of Mebane and Marshall Love of Washington, D.C.; five sisters, Emma Love Miles and Carrie Love Adams, both of Yanceyville, and Queen Love Steveson, Lola Love Graves and Doris Love Dawson, all of Washington, D.C.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m., Sunday at High Rock Baptist Church by the Rev. Lorenza Love. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
There will be a viewing from 4-8 tonight at Fulton Funeral Home.
Rosa Reese
OXFORD, N.C. - Rosa Seamons Reese, 86, formerly of Virgilina, Va., died Thursday, Nov. 13, 1997, at her residence.
She was married
to Harvey Milton Reese, who predeceased her.
A native of Halifax County, she was a member of Hitesburg Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Geraldine Reese Clay of Hurdle Mills and Faye Reese Clayton of Roxboro; five sons, Beverly "Frankie" Reese of Danville, Va., and Henry Reese of Henderson, Wayne Reese of Chase City, Va., and James Reese and Ronnie Reese, both of Oxford; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by Kathleen Reese and Wilma R. Lacks.
Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m., Sunday at Hitesburg Baptist Church by the Rev. William Salmons. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Lofton Lea
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Lofton L. Lea, 83, 56 John Lea Road, died Nov. 13, 1997, in the Veterans Hospital in Durham, N.C.
Born March 28, 1914, in Caswell County, he was the son of Thomas Lea and Cora Rudd Lea.
He was a retired shipping clerk with The Stafford Company.
Lea was a member of High Rock Baptist Church.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by four daughters, Patricia Lea, Wanda Lea, Jacqueline Lea, all of Durham, and Dorothy Long of Burlington; five sons, Thomas Lea, William Lea, Goerge Lea, Jack Lea, all of Durham, and Jerome McPhaul of Dunwoody, Ga.; 19 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. at High Rock Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Broadnax. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the church one hour before the service and other times at his residence.
Fulton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ethel Thornton
RUFFIN, N.C. - Ethel Pruitt Thornton, 86, 381 Williamson Creek Road, died Friday morning at Morehead Nursing Center in Eden.
Born Nov. 10, 1911, in Pittsylvania County, Va., she was a daughter of Charles Pruitt and Essie Stroud Pruitt.
She was married
to Perry James Thornton, who died May 3, 1977.
A resident of Ruffin for most of her life, she was a homemaker.
She was a member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, La Verne Thornton of Sanford; two daughters, Elaine Jones of Ruffin and Brenda Meeks of Roanoke, Va.; a brother, Wallace Pruitt of Danville, Va.; three sisters, Clarice Kepley of Gretna, Va., and Esther Thornton of Danville, and Barbara Ann Aaron of Ruffin; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Betty Jean Palmer.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church by the Rev. Loy Kennedy. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Effie Weatherford
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Effie Apple Weatherford, 85, of the Bryan Center, died early Saturday morning, Nov. 22, 1997, at Annie Penn Hospital in Reidsville.
She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and retired from Dan River Inc.
Survivors include one brother, John M. Apple of Reidsville; two sisters, Hazel Crumpton of Blanch, and Daisey Evans of Ruffin.
She was predeceased by her husband, Herman Weatherford.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at the Apple family cemetery on Ashland Road.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Reidsville.
Beatrice Walker
RUFFIN, N.C. - Beatrice Odell Spangler Walker, 91, of 346 Williamson Creek Road, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997, in Wesley Long Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
Born July 12, 1906, in Freeze, Va., she was a daughter of William David Spangler and Rose Ireson Spangler.
She was married
to Ossie J. Walker, who survives.
She was a life-long resident of the Mayfield community.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Allen of Lynchburg, Va., and Betty Tate of Ruffin; a son, Ossie J. Walker Jr. of Ruffin; a half-sister, Billie Jean Hebb of Asheville; 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, William David Walker; a brother, Leroy Spangler; a sister, Maggie Martin McElroy; and a half-brother, Jack Spangler.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
