Louise Gunter
PELHAM, N.C. - Louise B. Gunter, 4071 Chandler Mill Road, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997, at Annie Penn Memorial Hospital.
A native of Pittsylvania County, she was a member of Kentuck Baptist Church, where she served with the Mothers' Board and Missionary Circle.
Survivors include three sons, Tommy Gunter Jr. and Voyd Gunter, both of Eden, and George Gunter of Reidsville; six daughters, Marguerite Nunnally and Lottie Williamson, both of Pelham, Dorothy Sams of White Plains, N.Y., and Ruth Gwynn of Landover, Md., and Minnie Stokes of Washington, D.C., and Mary Weathers of Durham; a brother, John Barksdale of Ringgold; 23 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bluestone Baptist Church by the Rev. Jesse Fitz. Burial will be in Bluestone Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at McLaurin Funeral Home in Reidsville.
Katherine Florence
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Katherine Waller Florence, 82, of West Meadowview Road, died Wednesday evening, Nov. 26, 1997, at Village Green Retirement Center.
Born Oct. 24, 1915, in Halifax County, Va., she was a daughter of Ocie Waller and Evie Arthur Waller.
She was married
to George Albert Florence, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Republican Grove Methodist Church and was a retired employee of Electric Sales and Service.
Survivors include a brother, Marvin S. Waller of Danville; and four sisters, Carolyn W. Hedrick, Gloria W. Hedrick and Margie W. Walton, both of Danville, and Rebecca W. Haas of Soledad, Calif.
She was predeceased by her stepmother, Lillie Gibson Waller; a brother, B. Thomas Waller; and a sister, Dorothy W. Turner.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m., today at Mulberry Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Jerry Jordan.

Pauline Mangrum
BURLINGTON, N.C. - Pauline Justice Mangrum, 81, of 507 Everett St., Apt. 212-A, died Friday, Nov. 28, 1997, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham after being critically ill for three days.
Born Jan. 14, 1916, she was a daughter of Richard Justice and Daisy Dean Shoe Justice.
She was married
to Dewey Freeman Mangrum, who predeceased her.
A retired employee of West Webb Curb Market Grill, she was a member of Glen Hope Baptist Church and a member of the Victory Sunday school class.
Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Jean Mangrum Agnew of Raleigh and Geraldine Mangrum Steele of Graham; one sister, Hazel Higgins of Burlington; two brothers, Glenn Justice and Willard Justice, both of Burlington; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Janet Lee Cook.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m., at Glen Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. Bob Stephenson and the Rev. Mike Workman.
The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at Lowe Funeral Home and other times at 2269 South N.C. 87, Graham, N.C.
Lillian Carver
LEASBURG, N.C. - Lillian Priscilla Carver, 34, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 23, 1963, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of Kister Carver and Jean A.
Carter, who survive.
She was educated in the public schools in Brooklyn.
She was a member of the Greater Brandon Chapel Baptist Church in Alton, Va.
In addition to her mother of Roosevelt Island, N.Y., and her father of Roxboro, survivors include a daughter, Ramona A. Carver of Leasburg; her stepmother, Cynthia Carver of Roxboro; three stepsisters, Kristen Carver and Kimberly Carver, both of Roxboro, and Beverly Carver of Norfolk, Va.; two brothers, Leslie Carver of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Timothy Carter of Roosevelt Island, N.Y.; her grandmothers, Ruby Ramsey of Roxboro and Eunice Carter of Semora; and her step-grandmother, Annie Carver Paylor of Leasburg.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Greater Brandon Chapel Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. H.R. Surgeon. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Viewing for family and friends will be held from 12-8 p.m. today at Plenty Funeral Home Chapel in Semora.
The family will be at the residence of Lawrence and Gloria Carter, 6739 N.C. Hwy 119 N, Leasburg.
Martha 'Patty' Nance
REIDSVILLE, N.C. - Martha E. "Patty" Layne Nance, 91, 1202 9B Gunn St., died Tuesday morning, Dec. 2, 1997, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
A native of Pittsylvania County, Va., she was a homemaker and a member of McLeansville Baptist Church.
She was the last surviving member of her generation of the Layne family.
Survivors include four sons, the Rev. Jack Nance of Winston-Salem, Maynard Nance and E. Aaron Nance, both of Brown Summit, and Paul Nance of Gibsonville; four daughters, Mary N. McGee and Alma N. Clark, both of Reidsville, and Allene N. Simpson Kallam of Brown Summit and Sue N. Gunn of Augusta, Ga.; 27 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of her daughter, Allene Kallam, 8081 Old Reidsville Road.
Daniel Cooper
PROVIDENCE, N.C. - Daniel Ord Cooper, 69, 188 Walters Mill Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 19, 1928, in Sago, he was a son of Ord Cooper and Della Rigney Cooper.
He was married
to Marion Fleming Cooper, who survives.
He was reared in the Blanch community and had served in the U.S. Air Force.
He was retired from Disston Inc., and was a member of College Park Baptist Church, where he served on the board of deacons.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a son, Gerald Cooper of Providence; three sisters, Thalia Bradley of Orlando, Fla., and Verna Rowland of Blanch and Jane Walker of Reidsville; and two brothers, Garnett Cooper of Yanceyville and Samuel Cooper of Milton.
He was predeceased by a sister, Thelma Foster; and a brother, Cecil Cooper.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m., Friday at Townes Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Dorothy Thomas. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
Betty Ritchie
MIDLAND, N.C. - Betty Jo Allen Ritchie, 65, 12383 Hartwood Road, died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 23, 1932, in Gaston County, she was the daughter of Frank Allen and Lillie George Allen.
She was married
to Boyde F. Ritchie, who survives.
She was a former manager of Pathway Book Store in Charlotte, and formerly owned and operated Life Line Christian Book Store of Charlotte and Albemarle.
She was manager of the year in 1967. She was a member of Christian Book Sellers' Association.
In addition to her husband of Midland, survivors include two sons, Allen Ritchie and Steve Ritchie, both of Concord; a daughter, Nancy Hopkins of Danville; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m., today at Dulin's Grove Advent Christian Church in Charlotte by the Rev. Brent Carpenter and the Rev. Ray Rippy. Burial will be in Oakboro Cemetery in Oakboro.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her son, Allen Ritchie, 5000 Daffodil Lane.

William 'Bill' Totten
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - William "Bill" Totten, 226 W. Church St., died Sunday, Dec. 7, 1997, at his residence.
Born April 3, 1929, in Caswell County, he was a son of Mary Totten Williamson and Fred Brown Williamson, who survives.
He was married
to Virginia Miles Totten, who survives.
He was a member of Yanceyville Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on the usher board.
He was also a member of Leasburg Masonic Lodge No. 648.
He was a retired employee of Dan River Inc. and a self-employed plumber.
In addition to his wife of the residence and father of Yanceyville, survivors include two daughters, Shelia Diane Williamson of Yanceyville and Vickie T. Hinton of Durham; five sons, Jerry Totten and Sherman Totten, both of Durham, and David Totten and Carl Miles, both of Yanceyville, and Willie Irvin Murray of Milwaukee; a sister, Catherine Williamson Bigelow of New Rochelle, N.Y.; a brother, Fred Jr. Williamson of Yanceyville; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Grove Memorial Building, Yanceyville, by the Rev. Melvin Paylor. Burial will be in Yanceyville Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Providence Baptist Church, and other times at the residence.

Jerlene Stewart
MILTON, N.C. - Jerlene Stewart, 70, Highway 57, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
Born Nov. 10, 1927, she was a daughter of Paige Stewart and Carrie Stewart, who survives.
She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Semora.
In addition to her mother of Milton, survivors include four daughters, Linda Royster and Edith Elmore, both of Milton, and Sheila Stewart and Stephanie Stewart, both of the residence; five sons, Rodney Stewart and Stanley Stewart, both of Danville, and Sandy Stewart of Durham, Ronald Stewart of Salisbury, Md., and Ross Stewart of the residence; four sisters, Gladys Lipscomb, Laura McCain and Ernestine Stevens, all of Milton, and Marie Farmer of Baltimore; five brothers, Clarence Stewart and Paige Stewart, both of Milton, and Burnice Stewart of Baltimore, John Paul Royster of Reading, Penn., and Willie James Stewart of Leasburg; 21 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church by the Rev. Preston Medley. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
There will be a viewing 12-8 p.m. today at Plenty Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will be at the residence of her mother at 4445 Yarborough Mill Road.
