Emma Talley
REIDSVILLE, N.C. - Emma Roach Talley, 91, of 532 Talley Road, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, in Annie Penn Hospital.
She was a native of Rockingham County, N.C. She was a homemaker.
She was predeceased by her husband, James Hampton Talley Sr.
Survivors include three daughters, Sybil Fretwell of Reidsville, Norma Strader of Danville, Va, and Faith Talley of Reidsville; one son, Jimmie Talley Jr. of Reidsville; one sister, Inez R. Harrelson of Reidsville; one brother, William E. Roach of Blowing Rock, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and 12 grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 4 p.m. Sunday at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
Dexter Hancock
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Dexter William Hancock, 84, Pine Hill Rest Home, 1196 Hodges Dairy Road, died Monday afternoon, Dec. 29, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 28, 1913, in Halifax, Va., he was the son of William Hancock and Maude Vaughn Hancock.
A resident of Danville, Va., for most of his life, he worked for Dan River Inc., before retiring. He was a member of State Line Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Dexter William Hancock Jr. and Troy Glenwood Hancock, both of Pelham; four daughters, Carol Hancock Mims, Nancy Hancock Goodman and Linda Sue Hancock, all of Pelham, and Dorothy Hancock Mitchell of Danville; 22 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Wayne Wallace. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of his daughter, Linda Hancock, 971 Arch Cook Road, Pelham, off of Holland Road.
Nancy Simpkins
PELHAM, N.C. - Nancy Burgess Simpkins, 58, 2529 Chandler Mill Road, died Friday, Sept. 19, 1997, at her residence.
A native of Rockingham County, she was a daughter of Harry and Flossie Walker Burgess.
She had lived in Pelham for the past two years.
She worked at Dan River Inc. and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Paul S. Lewis of the residence; two sons, Terry Sasser and Carl Phillips, both of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one daughter, Debra Sasser of the home; two brothers, Charles Burgess of Reidsville, N.C., Harry K. Burgess of Hookstown, Pa.; two sisters, Grace B. Hines of Pelham, N.C., and Dianne B. Crowder of Ruffin, N.C.; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Lively Stones Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael Kent. Burial will be in the church cemtery.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Citty Funeral Home, and other times will be at the home of a sister, Grace Hines, 2853 Chandler Mill Road, in Pelham.
Joyce Ann Vaughan
Joyce Ann Vaughan departed this life on April 17, 2009 at her residence. She was born on March 17, 1955 in Hertford County, NC to Shirley Jenkins Wesley and the Clarence Vaughan, Jr.
She was a member of St. John Second Baptist Church.
Joyce was employed with Hertford County Schools and Duck Thru.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her fiance, Leon Fennell of Hampton, VA; her faithful dog, Snoop; mother, Shirley Wesley of Ahoskie, NC; (2) sisters, Queenie Ferguson of Woodland, NC and Lynette Mitchell of Murfreesboro, NC; a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 2:00 PM by Rev. Stanley Mitchell.
William Smith
William Smith (64) formerly of Gates, NC departed this life on April 21, 2009 at Newton County Medical Center, Covington, Ga. He was born on October 19, 1944 to the late Abraham and Pansy Freeman Smith in Gates, NC.
He was a member of Community Memorial Baptist Church in Yonkers, NY where he served on the Deacon Board.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife, Barbara Harley Smith of Lumberton, NC; (1) son, William HD Smith Jr. of Yonkers, NY; (3) daughters, Alleassa Harley of Covington, GA, Teferal Harley King of Yonkers, NY and Lolita Harley Bray of Bronx, NY; (2) brothers, Delton Smith and Alvin Smith of Gatesville, NC; (2) sisters, Joyce Eason of Gatesville, NC and Vernice Wooton of Jonesboro, NC; (3) grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.

Ernestine Winds
Ernestine Winds (71) of Roxobel, NC departed this life on April 2, 2009 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville, NC. She was born on November 10, 1937 to the late Henry and Sally Jane Flood Gatling in Bertie County, NC.
She was a member of Sandy Branch Missionary Bapitst Church. Ernestine worked as an Optical Technician.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: (2) daughters, Capuchine Winds of Bronx, NY and Cassandra Young of New York, NY; (1) sister, Maxine White of Greensboro, NC; (8) grandchildren, (1) great-grandchild; a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at 11:00 AM by Rev. Lycurgus Harrell at Sandy Branch Missionary Baptist Church.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Infant Jessica Jenkins the one month on daughter of Julius and Debbie Deloatch Jenkins, departed this life on April 23, 2009 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville, NC. She was born on March 14, 2009.
She leaves to mourn: her parents, Debbie and Julius Jenkins of Ahoskie, NC; maternal grandmother, Clemetine Deloatch of Winton, NC; paternal grandparents, Ray and Betty Jenkins of Murfreesboro, NC; (1) brother, Dayshaun Jenkins of Ahoskie, NC; a host of other relatives and friends.
Josephine Spivey
Josephine Spivey (83) of Colerain, NC departed this life on April 24, 2009 at Brian Center Nursing Home in Windsor, NC. She was born on January 10, 1926 to the late Luther and Susie Davis Chamblee in Bertie County, NC.
She was a member of Greater Wynn's Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

John H. Perry
John H. Perry (60) of Colerain, NC departed his life on April 24, 2009 at Roanoke Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie, NC. He was born on April 12, 1949 to the late Vassie and Pearl Chamblee Perry in Bertie County, NC.
John was a member of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He was a brick layer.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his (4) sons, Steven, Andrew, JJ and Dwayne all of Virginia; (2) brothers, Joseph of Powellsville, NC and Roy Lee Perry of Ahoskie, NC; (1) sister, Carolyn Smith of Winton, NC; a host of grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Services will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2009, 12 Noon by Rev. Nathaniel Thompson at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Bond Family Cemetery.
Virginia Hill
REIDSVILLE, N.C. - Virginia Davis Hill, 84, 3464 Vance St. Ext., died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997, at Annie Penn Memorial Hospital.
A native of Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of John C. Davis and Maude Barker Davis.
She was married
to Edgar Thomas Hill, who predeceased her.
She had lived in Ringgold, Va., until moving to Reidsville in 1962.
She was a homemaker and a member of Reidsville Alliance Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Jane Godsey of Danville, Va., Betty H. Yeatts of Dry Fork, Va., and Dorothy H. Fuqua of Reidsville; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Citty Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. George Liebmann. Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of her daughter, Dorothy H. Fuqua, 3444 Vance St. Ext., Reidsville.
Archie Foster
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Archie Cornelius Foster, 214 James Foster Road, died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997, at his residence.
Born May 7, 1925, in Caswell County, he was a son of James Edgar Foster and Willie Esther Totten Foster.
He was a member of Mineral Spring Baptist Church, where he was a trustee and an adult Sunday school teacher.
He was employed by Goodyear Tire Company in Danville, Va. He was also a self employed tobacco farmer and a self employed truck driver prior to his infirmity.
His survivors are his wife, Clara Faulkner Foster of the home; three sons, Archie D. Foster of South Boston, Va., and Rudy M. Foster of Yanceyville and Nickey C. Foster of Henderson; three daughters, Mrs. Queen Sylanda Williamson of Yanceyville, Mrs. Lillie F. Stone of Penfield, N.Y., and Miss Belinda J. Foster of Reidsville; six brothers, Tommy Foster of Chicago, Jimmie Foster of Danville, Va., and Ackery Foster, Joseph Foster, Roy Foster and Winford Foster, all of Yanceyville; three sisters, Mrs. Lucille Wiley of Yanceyville, Mrs. Audrey Victoria F. Gwynn of Pelham and Mrs. Queen F. McRae of Durham; three grandchildren, Tiffini Williamson, Trey Stone and Nichole Foster; and a step-grandaughter, Shirbane Trayham.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at Mineral Spring Baptist Church by the Rev. Freddie Seabrook. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Fulton Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.

Roy Fuller
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Roy Wilson Fuller, 196 Marshall Graves Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 1997.
Born Jan. 11, 1941, in Caswell County, he was a son of John Frank Fuller and Ressie Lea Fuller.
He was married
to Ethel Graves Fuller, who survives.
He was a member of Burton Chapel Baptist Church and a member of Buck Sportman Club.
He was a farmer in the Graves Chapel Community.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a son, Frank Brian Fuller of Gibsonville; a daughter, Dr. Adrai F. Spencer of Stoney Creek; two brothers, Samuel Lewis Fuller of Yanceyville and Rosco Fuller of Elon College; and three sisters, Flossie Maxine Bigelow of Burlington, Gladys McIntosh of Laurenton, N.Y., and Alvera Hall of Mitchellville, Md.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Sunday at Burton Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Boswell. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Roxie Tayloe
MAYODAN, N.C. - Roxie Joyce Woods Stanley Tayloe, 81, 170 N.C. Hwy 770, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 1997, at her residence after a lengthy illness.
She was first married
to Ralph Woods, then to Sam Stanley and later to Lee Tayloe, who all predeceased her.
A life long resident of Rockingham County, she was a member of Ayersville Baptist Church.
She was a homemaker and a retired inspector with DuPont Inc. of Martinsville, Va.
Survivors include two daughters, Mickie Anderson of Mayodan and Ronda Walker of Danville, Va.;a sister, Verlie Foulks of Ohio; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at Ayersville Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at Ray Funeral Home, 119 N. Market St., Madison, and other times at the residence.
