James Mabe
PELHAM, N.C. - James Mabe, 61, 10821 N.C. 700, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 1997, at his residence.
A native of Guilford County, he was employed with AMP as an industrial engineer.
He was a member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church.
He also served on the board for the Rockingham County Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine Easley Mabe, of the residence; two daughters, Cynthia O'Brien of Garner and Virginia Mallard of Pelham; his mother, Thelma Murray Mabe of Summerfield; a sister, Peggy Hampton of Charlotte; a brother, Donnie Mabe of Summerfield; and two grandsons.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Reidsville, and other times at the residence.
Walter Allen Jr.
MILTON, N.C. - Walter Allen Jr., 60, 97 Doll Branch Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center in Danville, Va.
Born Aug. 23, 1937, in Caswell County, he was a son of Walter Allen Sr. and Elizabeth Lee Allen.
He was formerly married
to Elsie P. Allen.
He was a member of River Zion Baptist Church in Blanch.
Survivors include three sons, Perry Allen, Orlando Allen and Walter Allen III, all of Burlington; four daughters, Virginia Bradsher, Elsie Allen and Betty Pelliford, all of Burlington, and April Rayster of Yanceyville; four sisters, Colene Blackwill, Helena Dennis and
Loreitta Jackson, all of Hampton, Va., and Betty Lou Hamlett of Milton; three brothers, James Allen of Winchester, Va., and William Allen of Danville, Va., and Ronnie Allen of Hampton, Va.; and 12 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at River Zion Baptist Church in Blanch by the Rev. Tyrone Thornton. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Viewing for family and friends will be at Plenty Funeral Home Chapel today from noon to 8 p.m.
The family will be at the residence.
Thomas Pruitt
ROXBORO, N.C. - Thomas Lester Pruitt, 55, 22 Butcher Place Road, died Friday morning in Person County Memorial Hospital Emergency Room following a sudden illness.
A native of Person County, he was the son of Thomas Lester Pruitt Sr. and Sarah Ann Pruitt, who survives.
He was an electrician, and a member of the National Guard.
He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his mother of Pittsboro, survivors include three sons, Steve Pruitt of Virginia Beach, Va., and Cleve Pruitt and Frankie Pruitt, both of Roxboro; two daughters, Barbara P. Dix of Danville, Va., and Louise P. Newcomb of Roxboro; three brothers, Paul O. Pruitt of Pittsboro, David L. Pruitt of Buffalo Junction, Va., and Hershel Ray Pruitt of Timberlake; two sisters, Katherine P. Elliot of Virgilina, Va., and Lilly P. Montague of Roxboro; and 11 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Rusty Pruitt. Burial will be in Buffalo Baptist Tabernacle Church in Buffalo Junction, Va.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of Louise P. Newcomb, 215 Lawrence Street, Roxboro.

Mary Graves
GIBSONVILLE, N.C. - Mary Maxine Graves, 48, of 3445 Huffine Road, Gibsonville, died Friday, Oct. 10, 1997, in the University of North Carolina Hospitals, Chapel Hill.
Born April 24, 1949, in Caswell County, she was the daughter of David Graves and Parthenia Watlington Graves.
She was a member of Blackwell Baptist Church, where she was the treasurer of Pastor's Aid and Missionary Auxiliary. She also served on the kitchen committee and the West Yanceyville Missionary Group. She was an employee of Cone Mill Corporate Office in Greensboro as an accountant technician.
In addition to her parents of Gibsonville, survivors include one daughter, Chandra Graves of Greensboro; four brothers, Glenn Watlington of Randlestown, Md., Robert Graves of Greensboro, Michael Graves of Brown Summit and Donald Graves of Gibsonville; four sisters, Patrica G. Clack of Elon College, Cathy G. Noble of Greensboro, Richetta G. Slade of Gibsonville, Debra G. Foust of Brown Summit and Barbara E. Graves of Graham.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Blackwell Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Everett Dickerson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the church Monday evening from 7 to 8 and at other times at the residence.
Fulton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
James Crumpton
BURLINGTON, N.C. - James Aaron Crumpton, 79, 7406 Kerr's Chapel Road, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 1997, at the Hospice Home after several years of declining health.
The son of George and Emma Belton Crumpton, he was born in Caswell County.
He was married
to Sarah Shelton Crumpton, who survives.
He was a retired textile employee and farmer.
He was a member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sisters, Ruby Chambers of Burlington and Gladys Hensley of Elon College; and a brother, Roy Crumpton of Providence.
A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday from McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Gaylord Dix, pastor of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at McClure Funeral Home in Graham. Other times they will be at the residence.
Leroy Richmond
BLANCH, N.C. - Leroy Richmond, 1693 Slade Road, formerly of 4378 Stephentown Road, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 22, 1922, in Caswell County, he was a son of Tom Richmond and Mary Lea Richmond.
He was married
to Clara Mae McCain Richmond, who survives.
He was a member of River Zion Baptist Church.
He was a retired boiler operator for Levine Bros. of Burlington and a tobacco farmer.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include six sons, Robert Richmond of Hyattsville, Md., and William Richmond of Springdale, Md., and Nathaniel Richmond of Largo, Md., and Harvey Richmond of Milton, Tommy Richmond of Greensboro and Donnell Richmond of Silver Springs, Md.; four daughters, Rosa R. Harrell of Hyattsville, Md., and Betty Thaxton and Shirley Walker, both of Blanch, and Sarah R. Shepard of Goldsboro; a brother, Bethel Richmond of Marietta, Ga.; a sister, Sarah Shaw of Burlington; 22 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at River Zion Baptist Church by the Rev. Tyrone Thornton. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Ruth Broom
PINEHURST, N.C. - Ruth W. Broom, 80, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 1997, at her residence following a lengthy illness.
She was a native of Elizabeth, N.J.
She was married
to H.F. Broom, who survives.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Douglas C. Broom of Hampden, Mass.; a daughter, Deborah B. Robinson of Danville, Va.; and six grandchildren.
A private service will be held by the family.

Viola Johnson
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Viola Bigelow Johnson, 142 Old Bigelow Road, died Monday, Oct. 13, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center in Danville, Va.
Born Feb. 13, 1915, in Caswell County, she was a daughter of Eddie Bigelow and Cora Sellars Bigelow.
She was married
to George Waymond Johnson, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Burton Chapel Baptist Church, and was a homemaker.
Survivors include three sons, Joe Johnson of Bronx, N.Y., and Jerry Johnson of Roxboro and Larry Johnson of Yanceyville; six daughters, Janie Johnson, Annie Johnson, Rosa Johnson, Dorothy Williams and Gwendolyn Taylor, all of Manhattan, N.Y., and Louise Apsen of the Bronx, N.Y.; two brothers, the Rev. Graham Bigelow of Newark, N.J., and James Bigelow of Mebane; a sister, Ressie Jefferson of Newark, N.J.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday at Burton Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Boswell. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Harvey Chaney Jr.
RUFFIN, N.C. - Harvey L. Chaney Jr., 71, 2461 Quick Road, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
A native of Halifax County, Va., he was a son of Harvey L. Chaney and Sadie Martin Chaney.
He was married
to Julia Wright Chaney, who predeceased him.
He had lived most of his life in the Locust Hill Community, and was a member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church.
He was the retired owner and operator of Southern Office Machines in Danville, Va.
He was a member and past master of Caswell Brotherhood Lodge No. 11 A.F. & A.M., Oasis Temple of Charlotte and Danville Shrine Club.
He was also a past president of Carolina's Region of Porsche Club of America and past member of Sports Car Club of America.
He was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity at Wake Forest University.
Survivors include two sons, William D. Chaney of the residence and Harvey L. Chaney III of Eden; a grandson and a step-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Bethesda Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Masonic Graveside Rites.
The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at Citty Funeral Home, Reidsville, and other times at the residence.
