Earle 'Red' Renn
PROVIDENCE, N.C. - Earle "Red" Lauer Renn, 65, 94 Everett Lane, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 11, 1931, in Danville, Pa., he was a son of Earle Renn and Christina L. Renn.
On July 17, 1977, he was married
to Barbara Johnson Renn, who survives.
He was a member of Providence Baptist Church, American Legion Post No. 40 Frank W. Sidler Post, and VFW Ballard Pruitt Post No. 647.
He was employed by Disston for 10 years and then by Magder Studios as a security and maintenance supervisor.
Prior to his retirement, he was a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps for 20 years. He served two tours in the Vietnam War and Korean Conflict, and received the Bronze Star in Vietnam.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Yvonne McKinney of Providence; a son, Brian Keith Jones of Danville, Va.; a brother, Donald Cope of Danville, Pa.; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday from Providence Baptist Church by the Rev. Kenneth Clark. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where graveside military honors will be given by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Unit Communications Company from Greensboro.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Barker Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
Irene Creech
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Irene Hunter Creech, 3206 Connecticut Ave., died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1997, in Wesley Care Center.
Hooper Funeral Home of Yanceyville is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.
James Poteat
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - James Mitchell Poteat, 57, of Old Farms Apartment 2-D, died Friday, Jan. 10, 1997, at Annie Penn Memorial Hospital in Reidsville.
Born July 20, 1939, in Caswell County, he was a son of Ruffin Taft Poteat and Emma Poteat.
He was a member of Blackwell Baptist Church. He was a former employee with J.C. Barts Lumber Co.
Survivors include one son, Donald Graves of Goldsboro; one brother, Ruffin Poteat Jr. of Pelham; two sisters, Virginia Poteat of Reidsville, and Mary Alice Harris of Elizabeth, N.J.; one foster sister, Jessie Totten of Reidsville; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Blackwell Baptist Church by the Rev. Everett Dickerson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Fulton Funeral Home from 7-8 Monday night, and other times at the residence of his sister, Virginia Poteat, 1749 Stoney Creek School Road, Reidsville.
Sue Bailey
PROVIDENCE, N.C. - Sue Crider Bailey, 77, 1237 Seamster Road, died Monday, Jan. 13, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following several years of declining health.
Born July 11, 1919, in Pittsylvania County, Va., she was a daughter of Floyd Crider and Minnie Hawkins Crider.
She was married
to Raymond Hall Bailey, who survives.
She spent most of her life in Pelham and Providence. She was a homemaker and a member of Gatewood Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two sons, Billy Ray Bailey of Danville, Va., and Willard Raymond Bailey of Burlington; five daughters, Bobby Johnston of Providence, Gracie Duncan, Wilda Morris and Carolyn Williams, all of Danville, Va., and Helen Hoskins of Pelham; a sister, Billie Snead of Greensboro; 13 grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; eight great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday in Wolf Island Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. John C. Gentry.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Minnie Eaton
PROVIDENCE, N.C. - Minnie Rice Eaton, 78, 1884 Park Springs Road, died Monday, Jan. 13, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 6, 1918, in Caswell County, she was a daughter of Marion Horace Rice and Molly Brown Rice.
She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. She was employed by Danville Regional Medical Center for 22 years and worked as a private sitter for 20 years.
On July 4, 1936, she was married
to John Eaton, who died in 1979.
Survivors include three daughters, Rachel Willard of Charleston, S.C., Marie Walker of Providence, and Dorothy Jones of Danville, Va.; two sons, Peter Eaton of Pelham and Danny Eaton of Danville, Va.; two sisters, Myrtle Myers and Sue Taylor, both of Pelham; three brothers, John Rice and Horace Rice, both of Providence, and Will Rice of Yanceyville; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday from Bethel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Rufus Butner. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Marley Funeral Home in Yanceyville, and other times at the residence of a daughter, Marie Walker, 1882 Park Springs Road, Providence.
James Blackwell
PELHAM, N.C. - James Calvin Blackwell, 71, 115 Mineral Springs Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 1997, in the Veterans Hospital of Durham.
Born June 20, 1925, in Gilliam, W.Va., he was a son of John Blackwell and Mary L. Swann Blackwell.
He is survived by four sisters, Queen E. Blackwell, Camilla Diggs, Ida Doe and Mariah Giggets, all of Pelham; and two brothers, Robert D. Weatherford and James Weatherford, both of Pelham.
The funeral will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Saturday from Shady Grove Baptist Church in Pelham by the Rev. Haywood T. Gray. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Burris Wallace
PELHAM, N.C. - The funeral for Burris "Junior" Duncan Wallace, 63, 337 Pelham Loop Road, will be conducted 2 p.m. today from Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Michael Harrill. Burial will be in Pelham United Methodist Church Cemetery.
He died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center, after suffering a heart attack.
Born Jan. 31, 1933, in Chesterfield, S.C., he was a son of Lillian Wallace McClain, who survives.
He was married
to Leila Donehue Wallace, who survives.
During the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the 11th Airborne Division.
He had lived in the Pelham community since 1957.
Prior to his retirement at age 58, he was employed by Dan River Inc. for 30 years.
For 21 years, he served as fire chief for the Pelham Volunteer Fire Department. He was also an honorary board member of the fire department and a member of the Sheriff's Association.
He was of the Methodist faith.
In addition to his wife of the residence, and his mother of Mooresville, survivors include his stepfather, Albert McClain of Mooresville; two daughters, Ruth Rivers of Locust and Glenda Wheeler of Reidsville; two sons, Duncan Wallace of Providence and Billy Wallace of Pelham; a half-sister, Frances Long of Mooresville; a half-brother, Wayne Everhart of Mooresville; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Marcellus Morrison
REIDSVILLE, N.C. - Marcellus Morrison, 45, 1040 North Scales St., died Sunday, Jan. 19, 1997, in Moses Cone Hospital of Greensboro.
Born Oct. 2, 1951, in Pittsylvania County, Va., he was a son of Lucy C. Bennett and Roosevelt Morrison, who survive.
He was unemployed due to disability. He was also a member of Grooms Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Reidsville.
In addition to his mother of Dry Fork, Va., and his father of Chatham, Va., survivors include six sons, Brad Morrison of Farmville, Va., Calvin Morrison of Chapel Hill, Harold Morrison, Darrell Morrison and Avis Gravely, all of Danville, Va., and Richard Jones of Dry Fork, Va.; two brothers, Jessie Morrison and Roosvelt Morrison Jr., both of Dry Fork, Va.; two sisters, Frances Walton of Dry Fork, Va., and Rosa J. Martin of Danville, Va.; and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from Cunningham & Hughes Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Tommy Williamson. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The body may be viewed 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his mother, 15284 Mount Cross Road, Dry Fork.
Clara Blackwell
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Clara Wrenn Matlock Blackwell, 80, 334 East Main St., died Saturday, Jan. 18, 1997, at her daughter's residence in Ojoi, Calif.
Born Sept. 11, 1916, in Durham County, she was a daughter of James Thomas Wrenn and Luetta Oakley Wrenn.
She was married
to Chesley O. Matlock, who predeceased her. She was later married
to Bobby F. Blackwell, who died in 1995.
She was a member of Yanceyville First Baptist Church.
For 20 years, she was employed by the Pentagon and Department of Interior. Prior to working in Washington, D.C., she was employed by the Clerk of Court in Caswell County for many years.
She is survived by two daughters, Marlowe M. McLaughlin of Charlotte and Judy M. Hooper of Ojoi, Calif.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday from Yanceyville First Baptist Church by Dr. Stanley Hare. Burial will be in Yanceyville Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Marley Funeral Home in Yanceyville, and other times at the residence.
