Lillian Douglas
BLANCH, N.C. - Lillian Smith Douglas, 79, of 494 Bob Smith Road, died Saturday, June 21, 1997, at her home.
Born June 20, 1918, in Person County, she was the daughter of Robert Barksdale Smith and Lillian Finney Smith.
She was a member of New Hope-Purley Charge, and was a retired dairy farmer.
Survivors include one son, Barksdale Douglas of Blanch; one sister, Mary Alice Smith Sims of Blanch; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Purley United Methodist Church by the Rev. Floyd Morrow.
A private burial will be held later.
The family will be at the residence of her son, at 291 Bob Smith Road, Blanch.
Marley Funeral Home, Yanceyville, is in charge of arrangements.
Elbert Chandler
Elbert "Pete" Chandler, 71, of 3251 Culver Road, Blanch, N.C., died Sunday, Aug. 3, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 11, 1926, in Halifax County, he was the son of the Will Chandler and Callie Crawley Chandler.
He was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church in Turbeville.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, of Blanch, N.C., include two sons, Elbert Chandler and James Chandler, both of Loris, S.C.; two sisters, Iola Wade of Blanch, N.C. and Maggie Oliner of Turbeville; a brother, John Chandler of Paces; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Friday, Aug. 8, at 2 p.m. at Dan River Bethel Baptist Church in South Boston, Va. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Floyd Standfield will officiate.
Viewing will be held today from noon until 8 p.m. at the Plenty Funeral Home Chapel in Semora, N.C. The family will receive friends at the residence.
Claire Scearce
PROVIDENCE, N.C. - Mabel Claire Booker Scearce, 85, of Shady Grove Road died Wednesday, June 25, 1997, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 28, 1911, in Pittsylvania County, Va., she was a daughter of John W. Booker and Mabel Wells Booker.
She was married
to Lester Scearce, who predeceased her.
She was retired from the Caswell County School System, where she was cafeteria manager at Pelham school.
She was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a brother, William J. Booker of Danville, Va.
There will be a graveside service 11 a.m. Friday at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence of the brother, 1040 South Main St.
Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel is in charge of funeral arrangements.
Baby Ware
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Claude Stephen Ware III, infant, 769 Hodges Dairy Road, died Monday, June 23, 1997, in North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill.
He was the son of Steve and Denise Hobbs, who survive.
In addition to his parents, survivors include a sister, Stephanie Ware of the residence; a half-sister, Brittney Davis of Pelham; his maternal grandparents, Doris and Jack Hobbs Sr. of Providence; his paternal grandparents, Edna and Claude Ware Sr. of Yanceyville; his maternal great-grandparents, Ruth Hobbs of Providence and Elva Welch of Danville, Va.; and his paternal great-grandmother, Mildred Day of Yanceyville.
A private graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday in Ebeneezar Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Roxboro by Landon Mitchell.
Marley Funeral Home of Yanceyville is in charge of arrangements.
Josephine Tucker
MILTON, N.C. - The funeral for Josephine Apple Tucker, of 188 East Street, will be conducted 1 p.m. today at High Street Baptist Church by Pastor Orinzie Hooks.
Interment will be in Floral Hills Memory Garden, Danville, Va.
Born in Caswell County, she was the daughter of John and Ivie Apple.
She was educated in Caswell County and was a member of St. Andrew A.M.E. Church, Milton.
She is survived by a son, James Tucker of the home; two sisters, Irene Apple of Milton, Mary Madden of Blanch; and two brothers, Walter Apple of Austin, Tx., and John Apple Jr. of Philadelphia.
The viewing for family and friends was held Sunday evening at Plenty Funeral Home, Semora.
The family is at the residence, 188 East Street.
William Coates
ROXBORO, N.C. - William Carroll Coates, 69, of 1127 Cavel-Chub Lake Road, died Tuesday, July 15, 1997, at his residence following an extended illness.
A native of Brookneal, Va., he was a son Callie Coates and Nellie Mason Coates.
He was married
to Katie Paul Coates, who survives.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He was a retired employee of D & L Equipment company.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Kathy C. Adcock of Roxboro; a brother, the Rev. Cecil Coates of Providence; three sisters, Louise C. Sheppard and Myrtle C. Carver, both of Roxboro, and Brenda C. Perkins of Durham; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Herbert Brown.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Strickland Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
Dallas Price
PELHAM, N.C. - Dallas Wayne Price, 59, 2609 Old U.S. Highway 29, died Wednesday, July 23, 1997, after being taken to Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 30, 1938, he was a son of Mary Lou Hall Price and Ivy Jason Price Sr., who survives.
On Dec. 30, 1957, he was married
to Cleo Christine Gammon Price, who survives.
He had lived in Pelham for the last 36 years.
He worked for Dan River Inc. for 40 years.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He was a member of WAKG FM 103 Saturday Night Hall of Fame Record Collectors.
In addition to his father of Pelham and his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, Ricky Lee Price of Raleigh and Peyton C. Price of Pelham; a sister, Judy D. Staton of Ringgold, Va.; four brothers, Ivy Jason Price Jr. of Pelham, Marlin Jean Price of Greensboro, Roger Glenn Price of Baltimore and Philip Ray Price of Reidsville; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Roger Ewing, the Rev. Matthew Pacifico and the Rev. Hubert Inman.
Burial will be held in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
