Lonzo Wallace

YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Lonzo Wladimir Wallace, 74, of 1107 County Home Road, died Friday, Feb. 27, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center in Danville, Va.

Born Sept. 18, 1923, in Robeson County, he was the son of the late Wade and Chessie Durant Wallace.

Mr. Wallace was a graduate of both North Carolina A&T State University and North Carolina State University.

He was a retired Vocational Agriculture teacher at Bartlett Yancey High School in Caswell County and a lifetime member of the National NAACP.

Mr. Wallace is survived by his wife, Gloria Washington Wallace of the home; a son, Myron A. Wallace of Albuquerque, N.M.; a daughter, Aleksei Wallace Reid of Charlotte; three brothers, Albert Wallace of San Francisco, Hollie Wallace of Baltimore, and Prentice Wallace of Winnfield, La.; four sisters, Shirley Crawford and Fairysia Wallace of Baltimore, Marilyn Worley of Virginia Beach, Va., and Mendrelean Odum of Los Angeles; two granddaughters, Margaux A. Wallace of Chesapeake, Va., and Karla Ashby-Wallace of Pasadena, Calif.; seven nephews and three nieces.

Fulton Funeral Home handled the cremation arrangements.

In keeping with Mr. Wallace's wishes, a private "Celebration of Life" gathering will be held with family members.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Frank Boswell

RUFFIN, N.C. - Frank Bernice Boswell, 76, 3275 Quick Road, died Wednesday afternoon, March 4, 1998, at his residence after a two-year decline in health.

Born July 20, 1921, in Caswell County, he was a son of Glenn Boswell and Carrie Guthrie Boswell.

He was married icon to Willie Strader Boswell, who died Jan. 1, 1995.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

A resident of Caswell County for most of his life, he had also lived in Florida for 12 years.

He worked for Dan River, Inc., and later, worked at Zayre Department Stores in sales.

He was a member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include three sons, William B. Boswell of Okeechobee, Fla., and Andrew H. Boswell of Burlington and Jerry L. Boswell of Memphis, Tenn.; two brothers, Henry Boswell and Harry Lee Boswell, both of Providence; four sisters, Frances Gammon and Ruth Hobbs, both of Providence, and Bastie Barbour of Danville, Va., and Josie Kegley of Beverly, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Swicegood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete at this time.

The family will be at the residence.

Margaret Pruitt

PELHAM, N.C. - Funeral services for Margaret Frances Wallace Pruitt, 68, P.O. Box 275, will be conducted 2 p.m. today at Pelham United Methodist Church by the Rev. Loy Kennedy and the Rev. James Albert. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She died early Tuesday, March 3, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center after a decline in health since 1992.

Born April 18, 1929, in Pittsylvania County, Va., she was a daughter of the late George Lee Wallace and Virginia Yates Wallace, who survives.

On Sept. 29, 1945, she was married icon to Presley William Pruitt, who died Dec. 1, 1993.

A resident of the Pelham community for most of her life, she was a homemaker and a member of Pelham United Methodist Church.

In addition to her mother of Dry Fork, Va., survivors include four sons, Jerry W. Pruitt of Madison, David L. Pruitt of the residence and Danny W. Pruitt and Presley Alan Pruitt, both of Pelham; a daughter, Diana P. Albert of Pelham; three brothers, Kenneth Wallace, Ruben Wallace and Dennis Wallace, all of Dry Fork, Va.; four sisters, Mildred Emerson of Dry Fork, Va., and Evelyn Oakes of Whitmell, Va., and Virginia Dare Jones of Blairs, Va., and Betty Marshall of Roanoke, Va.; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

Swicegood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Edsel Sellars

YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Edsel Hazel Sellars, 4672 Badgett Sisters Pkwy., died Tuesday, March 3, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center in Danville, Va.

Born June 14, 1923, in Caswell County, he was the son of Walter and Mary B. Sellars.

He was a former employee of Watlington Farm Supplies as a truck driver.

He is survived by his wife, Celester Badgett Sellars of the residence; three sons, Stanley Bernard Sellars, Andre Sellars-Bey and Kelvin Wendell Sellars-El; a sister, Louise Dow of Baltimore; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted Friday, March 6, 1998, at 1 p.m. from Fulton Funeral Chapel.

Herbert Turner

YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Herbert Lea Turner, 69, of 829 Cobb Road, died Friday, March 6, 1998, in the University of North Carolina Hospital at Chapel Hill.

Born Jan. 17, 1929, in McDowell County, he was the son of Sterling and Florda Watlington Turner.

He worked for Dan River Mills for many years and was a retired employee of Flint Fabric. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church, where he was the former Sunday School treasurer.

Survivors include his wife, Savannah Elizabeth Bigelow Turner of the home; one son, Dean Ronald Turner of Yanceyville; two daughters, Ella Laverne Richmond of Elon College and Valerie T. Graves of Fayetteville; two brothers, Sterling Turner Jr. of Columbus, Ohio, and Henry Obrient Turner of Durham; two sisters, Helen T. Gaston of Los Angeles, and Mary Eliza Roane of Fountain, Colo., and 10 grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Burton Chapel Baptist Church on Burton Chapel Road in Mebane by the Rev. B.R. Inge. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Monday and other times at the residence.

Harvey Walker Jr.

MEBANE, N.C. - Harvey A. "H.A." Walker Jr., 52, of 5003 Highway 119 South (High Tower Community) died Saturday, March 7, 1998, at his residence. He had been in declining health for several months.

He was born in Rockingham County, the son of Vera Walker Hogan and Harvey A. Walker Sr. Educated in Caswell County Schools, he was the owner and operator of Walker's Grocery and Walker's Mini storage and was a member of Community Baptist Church.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, are wife, Joan Carter Walker of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy W. and Richard Prater of Savannah, Ga., Angela W. and Jason K. Smith of Elon College; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Trudy Gentry Walker of Leasburg, Va.; two sisters, Delores Rose of Yanceyville and Sandra Walker of Marion, S.C.; one brother, Michael T. Walker of Yanceyville; and six grandchildren.

In addition to his father, he was predeceased by a sister, Lelia W. Compton of Reidsville.

Funeral services will be Monday, 2 p.m. at Beulah Baptist Church, Highway 158 East conducted by the Rev. Doug Jones, pastor. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday, 6-8 p.m. at Hooper Funeral Home, Yanceyville, and other times at the residence.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, P.O. Box 2122, Burlington, N.C., 27217.

Timothy Pruitt

RUFFIN, N.C. - Timothy Len Pruitt, 32, 843 Stephens Road, died Saturday, March 7, 1998, at his residence.

A native of Rockingham County, he was employed with Heating & Air Controllers. He attended Westover Baptist Church.

He was the son of Bobby N. Pruitt and June Wilson Pruitt.

In addition to his mother of Ruffin, survivors include his daughter, Amanda Sue Pruitt of Ruffin; a sister, Linda P. McGehee of Ruffin; and three brothers, Bobby N. Pruitt of Reidsville; and Steven T. Pruitt and W. Mark Pruitt, both of the home.

The funeral will be conducted 4 p.m. Wednesday at Westover Baptist Church in Danville. Burial will be in Dan River Primitive Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Wilkerson Funeral Home, and other times at the home of his mother, 736 Stephens Road.

Dorothy S. Watlington

YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Dorothy Slade Watlington, 72, 104 Hodges Dairy Road, died Saturday, March 7, 1998, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro following a decline in health of several months.

Born in Caswell County, she was the daughter of Harry C. and Fannie Woods Slade.

She had lived in Rockingham County for many years, but had moved back to Caswell County. She was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church where she was also a choir member.

She was a homemaker.

She was married icon to James Irvin Watlington Sr.

In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one son, James Irvin Watlington Jr. of Yanceyville; two sisters, Betsy Slade Wampler of Greensboro, and Lucy Slade Libby or Annapolis, Md.; and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Prospect United Methodist Church by the Rev. Scott Wilkinson and the Rev. Marie Reed.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Harry Slade Jr., Halcott Slade, and Herbert Slade.

The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at Hooper Funeral Home, and other times will be at the residence.

James Tolbert

TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. - James Adam Tolbert, 16, of 338 Chapman Mill Road, died Monday, March 9, 1998, in a fire at his residence.

Born Dec. 16, 1981, in Danville, Va., he was a son of Randy Lee Tolbert and Tenley Proffitt.

James lived his life in Pelham, N.C., until February, when he moved to Taylorsville to live with his father. He attended Alexander Central High School in Taylorsville, where he was a sophomore and a member of the French Club. He worked on the high school newspaper as well and was of the Church of God faith.

In addition to his mother, of Pelham, and father, of Taylorsville, survivors include his brothers, Brandon Lee Tolbert of Mount Airy and Dennis Carroll Proffitt of Pelham; a sister, Danielle Nicole Tolbert of Pelham; his maternal grandmother, Josie Proffitt of Cana, Va.; and

paternal grandparents, Hubert and Ruth Tolbert of Lowgap. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Walter C. Proffitt.

The funeral will be conducted 4 p.m today at the Westover chapel of Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home in Danville by the Rev. Mike Davis Jr. with burial in Danville Memorial Gardens.

The family will be at the residence of his mother at 1018 Highway 700, Pelham.
