Charles Pattisall
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Charles Richard Pattisall, 69, of 3503 Sunnycrest Ave., died Monday, May 4, 1998, at Starmount Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born Aug. 30, 1928, in Danville, Va., he was a son of the late Holland William Pattisall and Ruby Cooke Pattisall.
He was the owner/operator of Summit Texaco.
Mr. Pattisall is survived by one sister, Ann Wrenn of Lynchburg, Va.; two brothers, Tom Pattisall of Alexandria, Va., and Harry Pattisall of Chatham, Va.; and two special friends of 35 years, Jerry and Jeri Canfield of Greensboro.
Memorial services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service in the chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, N.C., 27405.
Joe Ann Shell Compton
EDEN, N.C. - Joe Ann Shell Compton, 69, 620 Bryant St., died Thursday morning, May 7, 1998, at Morehead Memorial Hospital.
She was a native of Hickory and a active member of First Presbyterian Church.
She was a former librarian at Leaksville Elementary School. She was retired as an optometrist assistant with Turner's Optometrists O.D.
Survivors include a daughter, Ann Compton of Richmond, Va.; her mother, Wilma Smyre of the residence; a brother, Henry Shell of Hickory; and two grandchildren, Jennifer Hoover of Chapel Hill and John Hoover of Ft. Campbell, Ky.
She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel Douglas Compton; and a daughter, Sandra "Sandy" Compton Hoover.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Overlook Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Fair Funeral Home, Eden.

Charles Roach
DURHAM, N.C. - Charles Alexander Roach, 80, of Beverly Drive, husband of the late Mrs. Mary Martin Sherrill Roach, died Friday night in Durham Regional Hospital.
Mr. Roach was a native of Danville and a graduate of George Washington High School. He attended Hampden Sydney College and was a veteran of World War II. Mr. Roach was a resident of Durham for 55 years and the President and owner of Model Laundry and Cleaners until 1982.
He was a past officer with the Durham Housing Authority and a past officer with the Durham Merchants Association. Mr. Roach was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a member of the Durham Rotary Club for 52 years. He was a charter member of the Iron Dukes and a member of the Hope Valley Country Club. He was an avid hunter, golfer and fisherman.
Mr. Roach was preceded in death by his three siblings, Mary Roach, Lewis Roach and Betsy Roach, all of Danville.
Graveside memorial services will be conducted Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. in Maplewood Cemtery by the Rev. H. Gray Southern.
Surviving are his children, Nancy Roach Daugherty and husband, Dennis, of Durham, Charles Alexander Roach Jr. of Durham, William Allen Roach and wife, Hanley, of Knoxville, Tenn., and John Wesley Roach and wife, Dede, of Charlotte; and nine grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Monday night from 7 to 9 p.m. at Howerton & Bryan Funeral Home, Durham.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to the Property Preservation Fund of trinity United Methodist Church, 215 N. Church Street, Durham, N.C., 27701, or to the Arthritis Foundation, Carolinas Chapter, 7 Woodlawn Green, Charlotte, N.C.
John Bray Jr.
DURHAM, N.C. - John Cleveland Bray Jr., 75, died Sunday, May 10, 1998, at Durham Regional Hospital.
Born May 31, 1922, in Mayfield, he was a son of John C. Bray Sr. and Queen McKinney Bray.
He was married
for 46 years to Sally Clay Bray, who predeceased him.
He was a resident of Durham for 28 years. Prior to that, he resided in Louisville, Ky.
After 32 years of service, he was retired from the former American Tobacco Company.
He was a Mason, a member of Parkwood United Methodist Church and a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include two daughters, Katy Bray Appelbaum of New Paltz, N.Y., and Renie Fuller of Leola, Penn.; a brother, William F. Bray of Reidsville; a sister, Patricia Johnston of Eden; and four grandsons.
He was also predeceased by a sister, Hazel Gregory.
A memorial service will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, May 17, 1998, at Parkwood United Methodist Church by the Rev. Vickie Pruett.
Clements Funeral Service, Inc., is in charge of arrangements.
Frank Triplett
SARASOTA, FLA. - Frank P. Triplett, 58, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998.
He was born Nov. 10, 1940, in Kannapolis, N.C.
He was married
to Jeannette Triplett, who survives.
He was a resident of Danville before moving to Florida in 1992. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a salesman with Flowers Bakery in Lynchburg.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one son, Michael F. Triplett of Danville; and two stepsons, Michael D. Willard of Lusby, Md. and Bryant Willard of Sarasota, Fla.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Palms Funeral Home, 170 Honore Ave. Burial will be in Palms Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 4-6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Lillian Foster
YANCEYVILLE N.C. - Lillian Walker Foster, 97, formerly of 1559 North Main St., died Sunday Dec. 27, 1998, at White Oak Manor, Burlington.
Born Nov. 5, 1901, in Caswell County, she was the daughter of Thomas Walker and Nannie Walker.
She was married
to Rufus Eddie Foster, who predeceased her.
She was a homemaker, and was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Bonita F. Heavey of Reidsville and Marie F. Cross of Ruffin; two sons, John Thomas Foster of Danville, Va., and Rufus Leon Foster of Yanceyville; one granddaughter, Bettye French Wilson, whom she raised from an infant, of Chesapeake Beach, Md.; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one daughter, Reba French Smith; and one sister, Eva. W. Poteat.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at Marley Funeral Home, Yanceyville.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Prospect United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jack Ruth and the Rev. Floyd R. Morrow officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.
Dorothy Owens
BURLINGTON, N.C. - Dorothy Gray Hubbard Owens, 66, 168 Graves St., died Monday, May 11, 1998, at Alamance Health Care after a lengthy illness.
A native of Caswell County, she was a daughter of Charlie Lee and Ada W. Hubbard.
She was married
to Paul Andrew Owens, who predeceased her.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include four sons, Carl Andrew Owens of the residence, Kenneth Dale Owens and Randy Lee Owens, both of Danville, Va., and Bruce Willard Owens of Burlington; two sisters, Katherine Olivares of Charlotte and June Lindsey of Richmond, Va.; a brother, Billy Hubbard of Virginia; and eight grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday in Alamance Memorial Park by the Rev. Lester Haney, pastor of Shamrock Evangelical Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at Lowe Funeral Home in Burlington.
Robbie 'Bob' Glass
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Robbie "Bob" Hubbard Glass, 73, 464 Muirs Chapel Road, died Wednesday, May 13, 1998, at Wesley Long Hospital.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at Lakeview Memorial Park by the Rev. Al Stanley.
He was a native of Halifax County, Va.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He was retired from Cone Mills, of the Baptist faith, an avid golfer and a member of the Bryan Park Men's Senior Golf League.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lois Tatum Glass; sisters, Janey Boaze, Louise Andrews and Betty Kratz; brother, Carroll D. Glass, all of Danville, Va.; mother-in-law, Mary Tatum Weatherford of Greensboro; brother-in-law, Bobby L. Tatum of Wirtz, Va.; and a goddaughter, Debra Gillette of Jamestown.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. tonight at Hanes-Lineberry North Elm Chapel, and other times at the residence.
James Noble
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - James Phillip Noble, 5614 Old Hwy. 86, died Tuesday, May 12, 1998, at his residence.
Born May 26, 1926, in Rockingham County, he was the son of Simon and Minnie Williams Noble.
He was married
to Hazel Allen Noble, who survives.
He was a member of Sassafras Grove Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and sang in the senior choir and male chorus.
He was a member of Leasburg Masonic Lodge 648, and was employed by J.I. Pritchett Co., as a truck driver prior to his retirement.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, the Rev. Anthony James Noble and Larry Everett Noble, both of Danville, Va.; a daughter, Belinda Elliott of Yancyeville; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday at Sassafras Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Carl Bigelow. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Fulton Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
