First Sergeant Buddy Weston
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - First Sergeant Buddy Joe Weston, 43, 2166 Baywater Drive, died Tuesday, May 12, 1998, at Womack Army Hospital. He had been in declining health for several months.
A native of Monticello, Ky., he was the son of the late Joe Everette Weston and Tina Weston, who survives.
A career soldier, he had served 23 years in the U.S. Army.
In January 1975, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After completing basic training, he was assigned to Fort Campbell, Ky. He served four tours of duty outside of the United States.
In October 1978, he began his first tour in Germany. After more than two years in Germany, he returned to the states. In late 1982, he was assigned to Germany for his second tour of duty returning to the states in early 1985.
In May 1988, he again departed the United States for his first tour of Korea. After serving for a year, he returned to the United States. He also deployed to Saudia Arabia in support of Desert Shield/Storm.
After his return to the States, he was assigned to Korea for his second tour of duty there. In August 1994, he returned to the 18th Airborne Corps Artillery at Fort Bragg.
His military education includes several basic and advanced leadership courses including Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course in Germany, Task Force Fire Support Element/Liason Officer Course at Fort Sill, Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course, Naval Gunfire Support Course, Joint Fire Control Course at Hurlburt, Fla., and the Operations and Intelligence Course at Fort Bliss, Texas.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal with one Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal with two Silver Oak Leaf Clusters, Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 3, Good Conduct Medal with two Silver Clasp, Overseas Ribbon with Numeral 4, Army Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with two Bronze Stars and the Kuwaiti Liberation Medal.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Leslie Colangelo Weston of the residence; a daughter, Nichole Ashby Weston of Yanceyville; four sisters, Janice York of Centerville, Ind., and Mary Gurley of Vevay, Ind., and Virginia Harmon of Richmond, Ind., and Anna L. Spece of Pottersville, Penn.; and three brothers, Joseph E. Weston of Richmond, Jasper Weston of Manchester, Ky., and Norman J. Weston of Eaton, Ohio.
Full military funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at Union United Methodist Church by the Rev. Tom Denny and Chaplain Chit Huey. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at Hooper Funeral Home in Yanceyville.
William Dunevant
SEMORA, N.C. - William Lee Dunevant, 57, 1241 Jack Pointer Road, died Thursday, May 14, 1998, at Hospice Home of Burlington.
Born May 3, 1941, in Caswell County, he was a son of John Thomas Dunevant Sr., and Elma Harris Dunevant.
He was retired from North Carolina Department of Corrections. During 1963, he served in the Vietnam War.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include five sisters, Darlene D. Phillips, Margaret D. Barker and Jeanette D. Lewis, all of Semora, and Marie D. Riddick of Blanch and Bobby Jean D. Terry of Milton.
He was predeceased by a sister, Eunice Caswell; and a brother, Junior Dunevant.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Welcome Baptist Church by the Rev. Jimmy Reaves and the Rev. Joe Grubbs. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Marley Funeral Home, Yanceyville, and other times at the residence of his sister, Margaret D. Barker, on Jack Pointer Road, Semora.

Willie C. Long
BLANCH, N.C. - Willie C. Long, 78, 7022 Blanch Road, died Wednesday, May 13, 1998, in his residence, following a lengthy illness.
Born Nov. 20, 1919, in Caswell County, he was a son of Anderson and Addie Lipscomb Long.
He was married
to Lizzie Long, who survives.
He was a member of Hamer Missionary Baptist Church.
He also served in World War II.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Doris Jeffries of Milton; two sisters, Mariah Long of Milton and Marie Robinson of Yanceyville; three grandchildren; three great-granchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday from Hamer Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Cephus Lea. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at the church.

Sarah Brandon Watlington
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Sarah Brandon Watlington, 67, 556 Hines Hatchett Road, died Saturday, May 16, 1998, at the residence of her son, Randy Durham, at 463 Blanch Road.
She had been in declining health for several months.
Born in Caswell County, she was a daughter of Allen and Annie Snow Brandon.
A graduate of Murphy High School, she worked at Pope's Variety Store for many years.
She was a member of Ephesus Baptist Church, where she served as a choir member, a Sunday school teacher and as a member of the Women's Missionary Union.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Barker of Hyco Lake; two sons, Randy P. Durham of Blanch and Rudy Durham of Danville, Va.; a sister, Sallie Shelton of Danville; two brothers, Arnold Brandon of Hickory and Kie Brandon of Danville; and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday from Ephesus Baptist Church in Semora by the Rev. L.L. Watlington and the Rev. Doug Jones. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Hooper Funeral Home in Yanceyville, and other times at the residence of her son, Randy Durham, 463 Blanch Road.
Dr. William Parks
HIGH POINT, N.C. - Dr. William Craig Parks, 85, of 201 Cottage No. 7, Greensboro Road, died Sunday, May 17, 1998, at the High Point Regional Hospital.
Parks was born Aug. 29, 1912, in Yadkin County the son of William Martin and Fannie Mae Burgess Parks.
He was a graduate of Wake Forest College and in 1938 received his medical degree at the Medical College of South Carolina in Charleston, S.C.
He had been a resident of High Point since 1939. He was a physician practicing internal medicine and was in solo practice until 1979 when he joined the Quaker Medical and Neurological Group until he retired in 1990.
He served his internship at Chesapeake and Ohio Hospital in Huntington, W. Va. He was a member of The Guilford County Medical Society, the North Carolina State Medical Society, the North Carolina Society of Internists and the American Society of Internists. He was one of the founders of the High Point Medical Center on Quaker Lane. He also was a former chief of staff at High Point Regional Hospital. In 1988, he was honored by the South Carolina Medical University and the North Carolina Medical Society for having practiced medicine for 50 years.
Parks was a former member of the High Point Host Lions Club, a former member of the High Point Jaycees and a former member of the High Point Chamber of Commerce.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Air Force Medical Corps and was a flight surgeon.
Parks was a member of the First Baptist Church in High Point where he was a former deacon.
On June 20, 1942, he married
Mary Ruth Brower, and she survives of the home.
Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter, Susan Diane Parks of Orlando, Fla.; three sons, William "Bill" C. Parks Jr. and wife, Patricia, of High Point, Dr. Robert M. Parks of Danville; and Dr. John S. Parks and his wife, Mary Beth, of Winston Salem; four grandchildren, William Craig Parks III of Wesser, Miss Jennifer Beth Parks of Raleigh, Gregory Stephen Parks and Miss Kathleen Adair Parks, both of Winston-Salem.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church by Dr. Al Cadenhead. Interment will be in Spring Hill United Methodist Church cemetery.
Dr. Parks will remain at Sechrest Funeral Home on East Lexington Avenue, and the family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday night from 7 until 8:30.

Sadie Sigmon
PELHAM, N.C. - Sadie Sigmon, 95, of State Road 1, died Saturday, May 16, 1998, in Danville Regional Medical Center, Danville, Va.
Born May 13, 1903, in Franklin County, Va., she was the daughter of John T. Sigmon and Nellie Shively Sigmon.
She had been a resident of the Brian Health Care Center in Yanceyville for the past year. She was retired from Dan River Inc.
Sigmon, who was of the Holiness faith, was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was predeceased by four brothers, E.T. Sigmon, Dillard Sigmon, O.L. Sigmon and John N. Sigmon; and four sisters, Pearl Sigmon, Gracie Dowdy, Mary Arnold and Bessie Bentley.
A graveside service will be conducted 4 p.m. today at Schoolfield Cemetery by the Rev. Jack Robertson. Townes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Florence Bailey
MILTON, N.C. - Florence Manley Bailey, 84, died Tuesday, May 26, 1998, at her residence.
She was the daughter of Ray Gerald Manley and Mary Ellen Leonard Manley, and was married
to Wayne Bailey, who survives.
She was a retired public school teacher, having taught in West Virginia for 22 years, Caswell County for nine years and Alamance County for a year. She taught music and French and was also a librarian.
She was the church pianist for Milton Presbyterian Church, and was past-president of Milton Women's Club.
In addition to her husband of Milton, survivors include a son, Emmett Gerald Bailey of La Grande, Ore.; two daughters, Cheryl Ann Hardy of Raleigh and Janice Irene Nicowski of Dunkirk, Md.; a brother, Bruce Manley of Erie, Penn.; two sisters, Ruth Eunice Miller of Belle Vernon, Penn., and Leah Mae La Van of Allentown, Penn.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Milton Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Cedars Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Ernest Baize
REIDSVILLE, N.C. - Ernest E. Baize, 627 Winstead St., died Tuesday, May 26, 1998, at Britthaven of Madison.
Survivors include five sons, Ernest Baize of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Otis Baize of Queens, N.Y., and William Baize of Hampton, Va., Douglas Baize of Stoneville and the Burnell Baize of Blairs; four daughters, Gertrude Cobb of Reidsville, Annie Moore of Danville, Va., and Minnie Smith of Greensboro and Marjorie Hampton of Eden; two brothers, Walter Baize of Reidsville and Aaron B. Baize of Eden; two sisters, Mattie Williams and Mable Hampton, both of Eden; 30 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at Bluestone Baptist Church by the Rev. Burnell I. Baize. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Friday at McLaurin Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
