Jack Travis
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Jack Norman Travis, 71, of 621 Main St., died Tuesday evening, Dec. 15, 1998, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, after several years of declining health.
Born Dec. 24, 1926, in Pittsylvania County, Va., he was the son of Edward Travis and Alice Travis Travis.
He was formerly married
to Nancy Lea Cook Travis, who died March 12, 1998.
He spent most of his life in Danville, where he was retired from Danville Plywood. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Travis Reid of Danville, Va.; two sons, Norman Lee Travis of Pelham, and Edward Arnold Travis Sr. of Danville; one sister, Helen Johnson of Danville; and five grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. today at Schoolfield Cemetery with the Rev. W.L. Wade officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his son, Edward Travis, 62 Dallas Ave., Danville.
Thomas Black
EDEN, N.C. - Thomas J. Black, 84, of 16 The Boulevard, died Thursday afternoon, Dec. 17, 1998, at Morehead Memorial Hospital.
Born in Bluefield, West Virginia.
He was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church. He was retired from Fieldcrest Mills.
He was married
to Minnie Pearl Black, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one stepson, James Perkins of Powatan, Va.; three step-daughters, Esther Wood of Lynchburg, Va., Barbara Hinson of Conover, and Sarah Gammon of Danville, Va.; one sister, Doris Bowers of Eden; one brother, Forrest Black Jr. of Danville; 15 step-grandchildren, 30 step-great-grandchildren and four step-great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. today at Lighthouse Baptist Church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Eugene McFarling
BLANCH, N.C. - Reuben Eugene McFarling, 56, of 604 Blanch Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998 at his home after declining in health for several months.
Born August 7, 1942 in Caswell County, he was the son of Rubie McFarling Sadler.
He was formerly married
to Norma Bray, who survives.
He attended Caswell County Schools and was a supervisor for Hanover Mills. He was of Baptist faith.
Survivors include one daughter, Donna M. Dalton of Blanch; two sons, Ricky McFarling of Blanch and Stan McFarling of Danville; and eight grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Hooper Funeral Home in Yanceyville with the Rev. Richard Morris and the Rev. Kenneth McFarling officiating. Burial will be in the McFarling Family Cemetery in Blanch.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home today 7-8:30 p.m. and at other times at the residence.
Kenneth Moore
HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. - Kenneth Ray "Ken" Moore, 36, of Cary, died Wednesday, December 23, 1998 at the Triangle Hospice of the Meadowlands.
He was born in Person County and was employed by the American Social Health Association. He was a graduate of the Wilson School for the Deaf and attended Gallaudet College.
Survivors include his mother and step-father, Ann and Ed Allen of Roxboro; his father and step-mother, Ray and Nancy Moore of Danville, Va.; his grandparents, Bessie and Rufus Duncan of Timberlake; two brothers, Mike Moore and Dwayne Porterfield, both of Roxboro; and a sister, Lisa Puett of Roxboro.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at the Brooks & White Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Fred Lowery officiating. Burial will be in the Person Memorial Cemetery.
Frances Graves
LEASBURG, N.C. - Frances Richmond Graves, 74, of 1703 Will Paylor Road, died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center, Danville, Va.
Born July 3, 1924, in Caswell County, she was the daughter of Lucian and Addie Graves Richmond.
She was a former member of Sweet Gum Grove Baptist Church and later joined Word of Faith Holy Church in Milton.
She was a retired employee of Collins & Aikman.
She was married
to Jonah Graves, who predeceased her.
Survivors include two sons, Jonah Graves of Burlington and Earl Graves of Leasburg; one daughter, Barbara G. Clayton of Greensboro; two brothers, Rufus Richmond of Burlington and Gaither Richmond of Stokesdale; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sweet Gum Grove Baptist Church with Bishop Edward L. Breedlove officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Monday at Fulton Funeral Home and at other time at the residence.
Era Mackie
ROXBORO, N.C. - Era Vae Hendrix Mackie, 91, formerly of Granite Falls and Roxboro, died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home in Danville.
She was the daughter of Walter Hamilton and Ella Wilson Hendrix.
She was a native of Caldwell County, and a retired school teacher. She was a member of Long Memorial United Methodist Church, member of the Roxboro Literary Club, member of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Hickory and a charter member of the DAR in Roxboro.
She is survived by two daughters, Nancy M. Cole of Roxboro and Frances M. Darkis of Danville; one sister, Meredith H. Hostettler of Granite Falls; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory with the Rev. Ed Morrison officiating.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Brooks & White Funeral Home.
Lelia Maynard
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Lelia Lowder Maynard, 97, died Thursday night, Dec. 24, 1998, in the Mecklenburg Health Care Center.
A native of Norwood, N.C., she was born on Jan. 29, 1901, the daughter of Isaiah Vance Lowder and Arminta Elizabeth Watkins Lowder.
She was a graduate of Mitchell College, Statesville, N.C., and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was married
to Robert Stanley Maynard, who died in 1949.
Mrs. Maynard was formerly of Danville, Va., where she taught at Brosville school, upon moving to Charlotte in 1954, she taught at Burton Institute and later at Charlotte Business College until her retirement.
She was a member of Kilgo United Methodist Church and a former member of Mount Vernon Methodist Church in Danville.
She is survived by two daughters, Jane Maynard of Charlotte and Mrs. Archer L. Fuller Jr. of Danville; and one granddaughter, Elizabeth Archer Fuller of Brevard.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. today at Kilgo United Methodist Church. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in Highland Burial Park, Danville with the Rev. Dr. Woodrow Giles officiating.
The family suggests memorials may be sent to Kilgo United Methodist Church, 2101 Belvedere Ave., Charlotte, N.C. 28205.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Archer L. Fuller Jr. 136 Dublin Court.

Patrick Stephens
BLANCH, N.C. - Patrick Henry Stephens, 70, of Taylor Family Care Center, died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center, Danville, Va.
He was born in Caswell County, the son of Dwight and Mary Mitchell Stephens.
He was educated in the public school system, and was a member of High Rock Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Patrick Stephens of Danville; one sister, Matilda Taylor of Blanch; one brother, Millard Stephens of Washington, D.C.; and one grandson.
A funeral will be held 12 p.m. Tuesday at High Rock Baptist Church. There will be a viewing from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesday at the church and from 12-8 p.m. today at Plenty Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his sister, Matilda Taylor, 2219 Stephentown Road.
Jean Pritchett
Jean M. Pritchett, 66, of 3771 N.C. Highway 119 North, Leasburg, N.C., died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, at Brithaven of Madison.
Born on March 31, 1931, in Pittsylvania County, she was a homemaker and a member of Holiness Church in Chatham.
Survivors include her husband, Wilmer Pritchett of Leasburg; six sons, Willie E. Pritchett of Newark, N.J., Albert L. Pritchett of Chatham, Billy W. Pritchett of Roanoke, Wallace D. Pritchett of Newark, Timothy M. Pritchett of Atlanta, and Mark A. Pritchett of Newport News; three daughters, Mildred M. Golden of Roselle, N.J., Mary A. Pritchett of Elizabeth, N.J., and Kathy D. Pritchett of Adindon, Md.; two brothers, John White Jr. and Timothy M. White, both of Danville; two sisters, Ola M. White Plummer ad Dorothy W. Terry, both of Danville.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, 2 p.m. from Cunningham and Hughes Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ralph B. Cypress officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park.

Mildred Pritchett
Mildred Pritchett, 66, of 3771 N.C. Highway 119 North, Leasburg, N.C., died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, at Brithaven of Madison.

Hassel Rudd
Hassel "Hoover" Nicks Rudd, 72, of 2760 Ridgeville Road, Prospect Hill, N.C. died Saturday, May 30, 1998, at his residence.
He was born May 6, 1926, in Caswell County, N.C., the son of Ancel G. Rudd and Carrie Solomon Rudd.
He was retired from White Furniture Company and a retired farmer.
He served in the U. S. Navy. He was a member of Grace Independent Baptist Church.
He was married
to Roxie Smith Rudd, who survives, of the residence.
Survivors include three sons, Ronnie Rudd of Prospect Hill, N.C., Randy Rudd of Yanceyville, N.C., and Rennie Rudd of Mebane, N.C., three sisters, Velma Horton of Timberlake, N.C., Kitten Riddle of Burlington, N.C., and Geraldine Warren of Burlington, N.C., one brother, Larry Rudd of Burlington, N.C., nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Ricky Rudd, who died in 1988.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Grace Independent Baptist Church by the Rev. Art McGahan. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Sunday at Marley Funeral Home in Yanceyville, N.C. At other times, the family will be at the residence.
Freddrick Tucker
Freddrick Demetris Tucker, 51, of Miami, formerly of Milton, N.C. died May 25, 1998, at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
He was a member of High Street Baptist Church in Milton.
Survivors include his mother, Laura Tucker of Milton, N.C., four sisters, Shirley Wilson and Amanda Pettiford both of Milton, N.C., Linda Pyles and Kathy Lovelace both of Danville, two brothers, Darrell Tucker of Milton, N.C., and Harvey Tucker of Savanna, Ga.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the High Street Baptist Church Milton by the Rev. Orinzie Hooks, Jr. Viewing will be held at Plenty's Funeral Home in Semora, N.C. from 12-8 p.m. Sunday.
