Addie Hardnett
MILTON, N.C. - Addie Bertha Singletary Hardnett, 80, of 263 E.C. Jones Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington, N.C.
Born May 29, 1918, in Lake City, S.C., she was the daughter of the Rev. Marty Singletary and Goldie McClam Singletary.
She was married
to John Hardnett, who survives.
She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Florence County, S.C., before moving to Milton, where she later joined the Mineral Springs Baptist Church, Pelham. She was also a homemaker.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Corrine Washington of Lake City, S.C.; two sisters, Ruth Kennedy of Patterson, N.J., and Mildred Eaddy of Lake City, S.C.; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Mineral Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Freddie Seabrook officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Sunday at Fulton Funeral Home in Yanceyville and at other times at the residence.
Donald Lea, Sr.
MILTON, N.C. - Donald Ford Lea Sr., 51, of 990 Dotmond Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at University of North Carolina Hospital, Chapel Hill.
Born June 24, 1947, in Caswell County, he was the son of Winston Lea and Carrie Adams, who survives.
He was educated in public schools in Caswell County. He was a member of High Rock Baptist Church in Blanch.
In addition to his mother of Yanceyville, survivors include one son, Donald Ford Lea Jr., of Ringgold, Va.; two sisters, Ann Parker of Yanceyville and Doris Marshell of Durham; two brothers, Sherman Lea of Yanceyville and James Lea of Ringgold; one grandchild; and one step-grandchild.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at New Haven Baptist Church with the Rev. H.R. Surgeon officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
A viewing will be held noon-8 p.m. today at Plenty Funeral Home Chapel in Semora.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his son, 2517 Bennie Drive, Ringgold, Va.
Virginia Smith
CHERRY GROVE, N.C. - Virginia Zimmerman Smith, 77, of 3657 Wagon Wheel Road, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, following a short illness.
Born Oct. 14, 1921, in Caswell County, she was the daughter of Oscar H. Zimmerman Sr. and Nannie Barker Zimmerman.
She was married
to J.I. Smith Sr., who predeceased her May 2, 1981.
She was a retired textile seamstress and a graduate of Cobb Memorial High School. She was a homemaker. She was also a member of Concord United Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sons, J.I. Smith Jr., of Cherry Grove and Thomas H. Smith of Asheboro; two sisters, Marie Z. Roach of Reidsville and Rachel Z. Harris of Providence; one brother, O.H. Zimmerman Jr., of Danville; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was also predeceased by one daughter, Jane Smith McGee; one sister, Shelby J. Earp; and one brother, Jessie T. Zimmerman.
A funeral will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at Concord United Church of Christ. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. today at Hooper Funeral Home, Yanceyville, and at other times at the residence of J.I Smith Jr., 4838 Cherry Grove Road.
Lena Millner
PROVIDENCE, N.C. - Lena Davis Millner, 86, of 3512 Walters Mill Road, died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at 6:15 p.m. at Brian Center.
Born Sept. 3, 1912, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Walter K. Davis and Lena Payne Davis.
She was married
Nov. 29, 1930, to Oscar E. Millner, who predeceased her on Feb. 23, 1982.
She was a member of Providence Baptist Church where she was Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir. She retired after many years from Healthtex.
Survivors include one daughter, Jeanette M. Collie of Providence; one son, Thomas Oscar Millner of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; four sisters, Margaret D. McFarling, Elizabeth D. McFarling, Annie D. Millner, all of Providence, and Nancy P. Swann of Blanch; and four grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one daughter, Mary A. Millner, and three sisters, Louise D. Walton, Pattie D. Cook, and Sudie D. Cook.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Providence Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Clark officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at Barker Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
Stella Reaves
MOORESVILLE, N.C. - Stella Moore Reaves, 87, formerly of Danville, died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, at the Brian Center.
Born April 4, 1911, in Sutherlin, Va., she was the daughter of Willie B. Moore and Octavia Richardson Moore.
She was married
Feb. 3, 1929, to Thomas F. Reaves, who died Sept. 3, 1986.
She had spent most of her life in Danville and had spent the last five years in Mooresville. She was a member of Keen Street Baptist Church, a member of the Ruth Class and a member of the Young at Heart.
Survivors include three daughters, Nancy R. Compton of Martinsville, Barbara R. Millner of Mooresville, and Louise R. Golden of Willow Street, Pa.; one brother, Harry D. Moore of Danville, Va.; one sister, Wilsie M. Bowman of Sutherlin; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one son, Thomas F. Reaves Jr.; and one daughter, Frances Carter Reaves.
A funeral will be held 4 p.m. today at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. David Henry officiating. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 3-4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
"Jack" Wray
PELHAM, N.C. - Woodrow Wilson "Jack" Wray, 79, of 8387 Old U.S. Highway 29, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, in Alamance Regional Medical Center. He had been in declining health for several months.
Born Feb. 20, 1919, in Caswell County, he was a son of Joseph and Rosa Murphy Wray.
He was a retired textile worker and farmer and was of the Baptist faith. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Eva Stanley Wray of the residence; one daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Mickey Harrelson of Reidsville; two sisters, Frances Saunders of Anderson and Molly Shepherd of Ringgold, Va.; two brothers, James Wray of Summerfield and Edward Wray of Pelham; two grandchildren, Michael and David Harrelson of Reidsville; and one great-grandchild, Katelynn Marie Harrelson.
Military graveside rites will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday at Ashland Road Baptist Church, Ruffin, with the Rev. Claude Harrelson officiating.
The family will receive friends and relatives 6-8 p.m. today at Hooper Funeral Home in Yanceyville and at other times at the residence.
Mary Basden
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Mary Henderson Basden, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
She was the daughter of Walter Henderson and Roxie Mims Henderson.
She was married
to Hilgrove Thomas Basden, who predeceased her.
She was retired from Graphic Communications International in New York.
Survivors include two sisters, Roxie H. Groves of Yanceyville and Gladys H. Johnson of Burlington; and two brothers, David Henderson and Sidney Henderson, both of Yanceyville.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Sassafras Grove Baptist Church in Yanceyville with the Rev. Carl Bigelow officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home of her sister, Roxie Graves, 29 Melvin Wren Road, Yanceyville.

Rev. Eunice Lea
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Rev. Eunice Lea, 70, of 772 Brown Road, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, in Duke University Medical Center, Durham.
Born Jan. 9, 1929, in Caswell County, he was the son of Jack Lea and Fannie Poteat Lea.
He was married
to Florence Jeffries Lea, who survives.
He was a member of High Rock Baptist Church and was a retired employee of Alamance Foods in Burlington.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one son, Kelvin Lea of Buford, Ga.; four sisters, Olivia Johnson of Washington, D.C., Janie Bell Oliver of Elizabeth City, Nita Watkins of Yanceyville and Winnie Colman of Baltimore, Md.; and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at High Rock Baptist Church, Blanch, with the Rev. Cephus Lea officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Phillip Ferges Jr.
ROXBORO, N.C. - Phillip Ferges Jr., 77, of 1696 Espheus Church Road, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at Roxboro Nursing Center.
Born Aug. 15, 1921, in Person County, he was the son of Philip Ferges and Rosa Faulkner.
He was married
to Ethel Watkins, who predeceased him.
He was educated in the public schools of Halifax County. He was a member and deacon of New Epheus Baptist Church, Semora, N.C.
Survivors include two daughters, Gladys Ferges Pointer of Hinesville, Ga., Barbara Ferges Barnette of Semora; two sons, Jasper C. Ferges of Baltimore, Md. and Phillip T. Ferges III of Charlotte; eight sisters, Janie Russell of Semora, Pattie Coleman and Catherine Cunningham, both of Alton, Va., Mamie Thomas of Hillside, N.J., Mary Wilson of Durham, Viola Brandon of Philadelphia, Pa., Ossie Martin of Columbia S.C. and Alice Mitchell of Roxboro; four brothers, Robert Ferges of South Boston, Va. Bennie Ferges of Red Bank, N.J., Willie Ferges of Irvington, N.J. and Shank Ferges of Newark, N.J.; ten grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at New Espheus Baptist Church with the Rev. Micheal Harris officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be noon - 5 p.m.today at Plenty's Funeral Home Chapel, with a wake following at New Espheus Baptist Church 7-8 p.m.
Graydon Boatwright
NEW HILL, N.C. - Graydon Lee Boatwright, 58, of 3632 Bosco Road, died at his residence Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, due to extended illness.
Born in Wilmington, he was the son of Max Boatwright and Mae Boatwright.
He was married
to Dorothy Mae Boatwright, who survives.
He was a graduate of George Washington High School in Danville, Va., and attended the University of Richmond. He was employed by Aramark Food Service for 25 years and with Kings Landscaping for six years.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, Ronnie Lee Beverley of Apex and Larry Lipscomb of Pittsboro; two daughters, Debbie King of Pittsboro and Gloria Plato of Apex; one sister, Fonda Stuart Boatwright-Linkous of Danville; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. today at Mount Herman Baptist Church, 2919 Olive Branch Road, Durham County, with the Rev. Phillip Adams officiating. Burial will be in Apex Cemetery.
The family will be at the residence.

Major Price
PELHAM, N.C. - Major Lee Price, of 8521 Old U.S. Highway 29, died Wednesday morning, Jan. 27, 1999, at his residence.
He was a native of Ruffin and had resided in Pelham for 32 years.
He was married
to Cornelia Pass Price, who survives.
He was a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church in Ruffin and was a retiree of the Southern Railroad Co. He was also a member of the Pelham Lodge No. 571, F.& A.M. (PHA).
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Lisa J. Price of the residence, and Tracy L. Price of Winston-Salem State University; and one brother, Elder Julius Price of Chester, Pa.
A funeral will be held 3 p.m. Saturday from Mount Hermon Baptist Church with Elder Percy Pass presiding. Burial will be in the chuch cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
