Paige Thompson

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Paige Wilson Thompson died Sunday, February 21, 1999, at Forsyth Medical Center.

Born Sept. 8, 1921, in Pittsylvania County, Va., he was the son of Henry W. and Florence C. Thompson.

He was married icon to Dorothy West Thompson, who survives.

He lived in Morrison, Ill., and worked for General Electric as a mechanical engineer until his retirement. He then moved to Winston-Salem.

He served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Dana Simmons of El Paso, Ill., and Cheryl Pulpan of Houston; one son, Craig W. Thompson of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Frances T. Love of Raleigh and Helen T. Hutchinson of Chapel Hill; one brother, Julian W. Thompson of Spring Garden; and three grandchildren.

He was predeceased by one sister, Charlotte C. Thompson.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, March 14, at Spring Garden Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Paul Johnson officiating.

Eldridge Vernon

MILTON, N.C. - Eldridge Gywnn Vernon, 70, of 428 Yarborough Mill Road, died Monday, March 1, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center, Danville, Va.

He was born Dec. 24, 1928, in Caswell County, the son of Clay Hester Vernon Sr. and Rebecca Bass Vernon.

He was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church, served in the United States Air Force, he was a Mason and a member of Caswell Masonic Lodge No. 11.

He was retired from Universal Leaf Tobacco Co. He worked the tobacco markets in Danville, Tabor City, N.C., Brookneal, Winston-Salem, N.C., Hartsville, Tenn., and others.

He was the first person in Danville to bowl a perfect 300 game, winner of the Virginia state championship (bowling) and named to the Danville Bowler's Hall of Fame. He was a senior ambassador for Caswell Pines Golf Club. He enjoyed flying his own plane and was a collector of John Deere Tractors.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Hines Vernon of the home; three daughters, Claudia V. Smith of Yanceyville, N.C., Ellen V. Robertson of Milton, N.C, and Amy V. De La Cruz Munoz of Miami Springs, Fla.; three sons, Bruce Vernon of Columbus, Ohio, David Vernon of Danville, and Billy Vernon of Milton, N.C.; two brothers, Harvey Vernon of Milton, and Marshall Vernon of Brunswick, Ga.; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was predeceased by three brothers Clay Vernon Jr., Walter Vernon and Bobby Vernon.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at New Hope United Methodist Church with the Rev. Floyd R. Morrow officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to New Hope United Methodist Church Building Fund, c/o Cleve Daniel, 1079 Long's Mill Road, Blanch, N.C. 27212.

Marley Funeral Home, Yanceyville, N.C., is in charge of arrangements.

George Nichols

MILTON N.C. - George Flem Nichols Jr., 66, of 1707 N.C. Highway 57, died Tuesday, March 2, 1999, at his residence.

Born in Caswell County, he was the son of George Flem and Mary Wiles Nichols.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of Connally United Methodist Church.

He was employed as a rural mail carrier in Milton for 32 years and he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include one daughter, Janet N. Spriggs of Newport; two sons, George Timothy Nichols of Milton and Donald Brooks Nichols of Hillsborough; one sister, Mable N. Brinkley of Milton; and three grandchildren.

A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Connally United Methodist Church with the Rev. J. Ross O'Neal officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at Brooks & White Funeral Home.

Allen Morgan Jr.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Allen Martin Morgan Jr., 76, formerly of Jacksonville, died Thursday, March 3, 1999, at the Brian Center in Charlotte.

He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Assoc., and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veteans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a retired master gunnery sergeant in the Marine Corps.

He is survived by one daughter, Donna Marie Tait of Wilmington; two sons, Joseph Allen Morgan of Jacksonville, and Robert Andrew Morgan of Charlotte; three sisters, Mary Goodman of Danville, Va., Pauline Charles of Richmond, Va., and Martha Rushing of Natchez, Miss.; two brothers, Herman Morgan and William Morgan, both of Danville, Va; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy LaBounty Morgan.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Infant of Prague in Jacksonville with Father Denis Hackett officiating. Burial will be in the Onslow Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. today at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

Marcus Crawford

ROXBORO, N.C. - Marcus Winstead Crawford, 76, of 103 S. Morgan St., died Friday, March 5, 1999, in Person County Memorial Hospital.

Born March 18, 1922, in Caswell County, she was the son of Marcus Constance Winstead and Annie Jones Winstead.

Survivors include a sister, Frances W. Groth of Arlington, Va.

A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. today from Burchwood Cemetery with the Rev. William D. Sabiston III officiating.

Brooks & White Funeral Home in Roxboro is in charge of arrangements.

Delma Denny

YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Delma Edna Clayton Denny, 87, of 171 Womack Blvd., died Friday, March 5, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center, Danville, Va.

Marley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.

Emma H. Martin

MEBANE, N.C. - Emma H. Martin, 53, of 710 North Carr St., Apt. 2, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at her residence.

Born in Danville, she was the daughter of Glinny Hamlett and the late Vivian Piner Hamlett.

She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include one daughter, Wendy Martin of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two sons, Jerry Martin of Graham, N.C., and Clinton Haymore of Danville, Va.; two sisters, Joyce McAllister of Maine and Faye Yates of Danville; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at McClure Funeral Home, Mebane, 6:30-8:30 p.m. today, and at other times, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Martin, 1508 Darrell Drive, Lot 37, Graham.

The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Mebane.

Jeffery Snead

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Jeffery Lynn Snead, 45, of 84 Vandola Road, Danville, died Friday, March 5, 1999, at Cone Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Born Aug. 3, 1953, in Danville, he was the son of the late Elizabeth Odum Snead and Jimmy O. Snead, who survives.

He was the husband of Cindy L. Snead of Ringgold, who survives.

He was employed in construction and of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his wife and father, other survivors include a son, Jeffery Lynn Snead Jr., of Ringgold; a stepdaughter, Tamara M. Saul and a step-brother Jimmy O. Snead, both of Danville; maternal grandparents, James H. Crittendon and Evelyn Hardy Crittendon of the residence and a paternal grandmother, Ollie Jean Snead of Danville.

A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at the Emanuel Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Bennett Shelton officiating.

The family will receive friends today from 7-8:30 p.m. at Swicegood Funeral Home, 564 W. Main St., Danville and at other times at the residence.

Ernest Campbell

REIDSVILLE, N.C. - Ernest Franklin Campbell, 80, of George Russell Road, died Tuesday, March 9, 1999, at Annie Penn Hospital after several years of declining health.

Born Dec. 18, 1918, in Caswell County, N.C., he was the son of Thomas M. Campbell and Annie Belle King Campbell.

He was a retired farmer and was of the Primitive Baptist faith.

Survivors include one sister, Fannie Campbell Sorenson of Utah; one brother, Jim H. Campbell of Yanceyville.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Lillie Campbell Paschal and Swannie Campbell; four brothers, Weldon Campbell, Aron Campbell, David Campbell and Walter Campbell.

A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Hooper Funeral Home Chapel with the Elder Wallis Smith and Pastor Bob Hillman officiating. Burial will be in Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 6:30-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Kyndal Hux

ROUGEMONT, N.C. - Kyndal Lynn Lux, 1 month, of 4520 Fork Drive, Rougemont, died Tuesday, March 9, 1999, in Duke University Medical Center, Durham.

She was the daughter of Joseph Lynn Hux Jr. and Lynda Lewis Hux, who survives.

In addition to her parents of the residence, survivors include one sister, Lynda Lewis Hux of the residence; maternal grandparents, Richard Lewis and Dorothy Lewis of Hillsborough; paternal grandparents, Joseph Hux and Dorothy Hux of Hillsborough; paternal great-grandmother, Jackie Hux of Farmville; maternal great-grandmother Lorena Lewis of Hillsborough and maternal great-grandmother, Josephine Travis of Danville, Va.

A funeral will be held 4 p.m. today at Hillsborough First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Porter officiating. Burial will be in Hillsborough Town Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at 517 Miller Road, Hillsborough.

Walker's Funeral Home Chapel, Hillsborough, is in charge of arrangements.
