Willie Gwynn
PELHAM, N.C. - Willie Thelma Watlington Gwynn, 69, of Brian Center Nursing Home, Yanceyville, N.C. formerly of 436 Mineral Springs Church Road, died Tuesday, April 6, 1999.
Born Nov. 1, 1929, in Caswell County, she was the daughter of the late James W. Watlington and Martha Geneva Jones Watlington.
She was married
to Edward Gwynn, who survives.
She was a member of Blackwell Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include four sons, Ricky Gwynn of Yanceyville, Edward Rainey Gwynn, Daniel Ray Gwynn and Carl Gwynn, all of Greensboro; five daughters, Pamela Gwynn of the residence, Connie G. Slade of Yanceyville, Gloria G. Richardson of Reidsville, Daisy G. Williams and Betty G. Walker, both of Greensboro; five brothers, Johnnie Watlington of Danville, Va., Jimmy L. Watlington of Yanceyville, Earl Watlington of Harrisburg, Pa., Brotha Watlington of Philadelphia, James L. Watlington of New York; four sisters, Jackie Graves and Cleo Stokes, both of Yanceyville, Jennie Bowe of Pelham, and Ruby Watlington of Harrisburg, Pa; 16 grandchildren, and 13 great-granchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Blackwell Baptist Church with the Rev. Everett Dickerson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A viewing will be held 2-8 p.m. Friday at Fulton Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Annie Jefferson
PROVIDENCE, N.C. - Annie Rust Jefferson, 92, of 4446 Foster Road, died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at her residence.
Born Nov. 6, 1906, in Washington County, she was the daughter of George Rust and Elizabeth Arnold Rust.
She was married
to Roy Jefferson, who predeceased her in March 1975.
She spent most of her life in the Danville area where she was a homemaker and had worked for Dan River Inc. in her earlier years. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Margaret Mallison and Helen Clark, both of Virginia Beach, Va., Emma Alvis of Richmond, Va., and Rebecca Lehmann of Boydton; two sons, Melvin Burnette of Winston-Salem and Robert Burnett of Providence; one brother, Jimmie Rust of Drivers; 23 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Moore officiating. Burial will be in Schoolfield Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
Evelina McGuire
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Evelina Brogdon McGuire, 94, of 1216 McCorkle Road, formerly of Danville, died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at the Charlotte Health Center after two years of declining health.
Born Sept. 26, 1904, in Concord, N.C., she was the daughter of Robert Brogdon and Celia Dennis Brogdon.
She was married
to Robert E. McGuire, who predeceased her.
She spent most of her life in Danville before moving the Charlotte two years ago to live with her daughter. She worked at Dan River Inc. as an inspector and was a member of Gethsemane Wesleyan Church on Dula Street.
Survivors include one daughter, Ruth Brooks of Charlotte; four sisters, Ella Grubb of Lexington, Va., Norma Royals of Wilmington, Eunice Gillispie of Lynchburg, Va. and Louise Garrett of Greensboro; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Danville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with the Rev. Paul Ray officiating. Interment will follow.
Swicegood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Joyce Thaxton
MILTON, N.C. - Joyce Juliet Lipscomb Thaxton, 42, of 4479 Yarborough Mill Road, died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, at her residence after a lengthy illness.
Born in Caswell County, she was the daughter of the late Roy Lipscomb and Mildred B. Lipscomb, who survives.
She was a member of the Macedonia A.M.E. Church, Milton. She was educated at Bartlett Yancey High School and North Carolina Central University, Durham. She was employed at Burlington Industries.
In addition to her mother of Milton, survivors include one daughter, Kimberly Thaxton of the residence; three sisters, Rose Farmer (Hodges) of Semora, Floressa Lipscomb of the residence and Carolyn Lipscomb of Milton; one brother, Acie Stewart (Dorothy) of Durham.
A funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Macedonia A.M.E. Church, Milton, with the Rev. Clyde Long officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.
A viewing will be noon-8 p.m. today at Plenty Funeral Home Chapel, Semora, N.C.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
William White
GREENSBORO, N.C. - William Meredith White, 74, of 3613 Esterwood Road, died Thursday, April 8, 1999, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
Born in Caswell County, N.C., he was the son of Willie White and Lucille White.
He was married
to Phyllis Lane White, who survives.
He was a member of the Lebanon Baptist Church. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of American Legion Post No. 53. He owned and operated Bessemer Avenue Sunoco for over 25 years.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two children, William Larry White and Dr. Terry White Worrell, both of Greensboro; two sisters, Helen Guthrie and Mozelle Moorefield, both of Yanceyville; three brothers, Herman White of Zephyrhills, Fla., and Brad White and Wesley White, both of Yanceyville; and three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Forbis and Dick North Elm Chapel with the Rev. Carl Shelton officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Zudie White
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Zudie Powell White, 82, died peacefully April 8, 1999, from complications of cancer.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery on Saturday, April 10, 1999, at 1 p.m. and a memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Hale White; her parents, Lillian Pearce and Henry Walker Powell; her brother, H. Walker Powell Jr.; and her sister, Nancy Powell Gheesling.
Mrs. White is survived by her sons, William H. White Jr. of Kingsport, Tenn., Edward (Ned) White and Walker P. White of Greensboro and Thomas L. White of Yanceyville; her grandchildren, W. Tyler White, J. Gaines White, Ian Walker White, Elaine Frances White, Mary Alice White, and Juliana Lynn White; and her great-grandchildren, Erin C. White and Colin M. White.
She was born November 18, 1916, in Columbia, S.C. She attended Meredith College in Raleigh and Salem College in Winston-Salem. Mrs. White was a faithful and active member of First Presbyterian Church for 50 years where she was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. She was the oldest surviving member of the Wednesday Study Club and has been active in the Greensboro Historical Museum and the Greensboro YMCA. She was the first female president of the Greensboro Cotillion.

Charles Traynham Jr.
WINGATE, N.C. - Charles Madison Traynham Jr., 70, died Saturday, April 10, 1999 at Presbyterian Hospital.
Born in Lynchburg, Va., he was the son of Charles M. Traynham and Eleanor Wilkins Traynham. He was retired from Wingate University, where he taught history for 37 years.
He was married
to Elizabeth Hope Traynham, who predeceased him.
He is survived by two sons, Jimmy Traynham of Wingate and Charles Traynham of Middletown, N.J.; two daughters, Beth Suarez of Monroe, N.C. and Payton Traynham of Wingate; a stepmother, Betty Traynham of Wilmington, N.C.; two sisters, Caroline Chauncy of Virginia Beach, Va. and Eleanor Traynham of Wilmington; and four grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Ginger Traynham.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, at the Wingate United Methodist Church with the Rev. Walter Woodson and the Rev. Paul Bravender officiating. Interment will follow in the Wingate City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Morgan & Son Funeral Home, Marshville.
Kaye Bush
WILMINGTON, N.C. - Mrs. Kaye Motley Bush of Wilmington, N.C., died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at her residence.
She was born in Chatham, Va., daughter of the late Robert E. Motley Sr. and Georgia Brown Motley, and was preceded in death by her husband, David Taylor Bush Jr.
Mrs. Bush was a member and deacon of First Christian Church. She was a member of the Woman to Woman Sunday School Class and the Circle Hannah. She was also a member of Areme Chapter #372 Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are her two daughters, LaNell Bush Burn and husband Pat of Wilmington, and Susan Kaye Bush Jacobs and husband Randy of Badin; three granddaughters, Katrina Marie Maiers of Greensboro, Michelle Raye Maiers of Badin and Lisa Burn Norris of Winnipeg, Canada; one sister, Anne Noakes of Florida, and two brothers, Richard L. Motley and Robert E. Motley Jr., both of Virginia.
Funeral services will be held 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, 1999, at First Christian Church by the Rev. Ralph Messick and the Rev. Kathy Reinger. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, April 15 at Raleigh Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service at the church.

Joe Beltram Sr.
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Joe Clyde Beltram Sr., 70, died Monday, April 12, 1999, at Sunrise Care of Siler City after several years of declining health.
Born Feb. 28, 1929, in Fort Worth, Texas, he was the son of Jesus Beltram and Laura Carrera Beltram.
He lived in the Semora area in his early years. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the 82nd Airborne during the Korean War. He was also an insurance salesman for 15 years.
Survivors include three daughters, Gail Beltram and Dale Beltram, both of Danville, Va., and Vicky Hines of Martinsville, Va.; one son, Joe Clyde Beltram Jr. of Martinsville; three sisters, Gail Zepeda, Rebacca Kolor and Rachel Paladina, all of Fort Worth, Texas; three brothers, Aaron Beltram, Hector Beltram and Embry Beltram, all of Fort Worth; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday in a local cemetery.

John Henderson
BLANCH, N.C. - John Lewis Henderson, 811 Blanch Road, died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, at his residence.
Born June 17, 1920, in Caswell County, N.C., he was the son of John Henry Henderson and Emma S. Henderson Long.
He was married
to Cleomis Graves Henderson, who predeceased him.
He was a member of Sassafras Grove Baptist Church where he was a deacon and attended Sunday school.
He was a member of Leasburg Masonic Lodge No. 648, where he was past master and chaplin and was a former staff member at Fulton Funeral Home for many years.
He was a retired employee of Dan River Inc., Danville, and was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in World War II.
Survivors include one son, John Anthony "Tony" Henderson of Hartford, Conn; two daughters, C. Cassandra Henderson of Richmond, Va., and Lisa H. Lassiter of Yanceyville; one brother Ruffin Long Jr. of St. Louis, Mo.; one sister, Mattie B. Slade of Yanceyville; and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Sassafras Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl Bigelow officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery, Providence, N.C.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Friday at Fulton Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
