Junus Leroy "Tency Man" Dixon
DURHAM, N.C. - Sgt. Junus Leroy "Tency Man" Dixon, 66, of 115 Melbourne Circle, Danville, Va., died Saturday morning, May 15, 1999, at the V.A. Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
He was born Sept. 22, 1932, in Pittsylvania County, Va., a son of the late James "Stutson" Dixon and the late Bertha Fitzgerald Dixon. He attended the Pittsylvania County Public Schools and was a graduate of Danville Community College.
Sgt. Dixon was married
to Mrs. Elsie Morrison Dixon, who survives. He was employed as a truck driver for Dan River Mills for many years and later worked at Danville Chrysler Plymouth until his retirement. He was a member of the Silver Creek Baptist Church.
Sgt. Dixon served in the Korean War and received the Bronze Star Medal for Heroism during ground battle. He was also a former commanding officer for the American Legion Post 29, a member of the Danville Area Veteran Council and a former member of the Masonic Lodge.
Sgt. Dixon is survived by his wife, Elsie Dixon, of the residence; a niece, LaSherra Morrison, also of the residence; and one brother, Elder James Dixon and his wife Betty, of Raleigh, N.C.
Funeral services for Sgt. Junus Leroy Dixon will be conducted Wednesday, May 19, 1999 at 12:00 noon from the Silver Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Booker George officiating. Interment with military rites by American Legion Post #325 will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at 115 Melbourne Circle.

John Chilton Sr.
GRAHAM, N.C. - John Howard Chilton Sr., 91, of 404 Moser St., died Saturday, May 22, 1999, in Caswell County.
Born in Surry County he was the son of the late Joseph Chilton and Mary Ashburn Chilton.
He was married
to Doris Rohrer Chilton, who survives.
He was a retired textile machinery representative.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include one daughter, Joan English of Charlotte; one son, J. Howard Chilton Jr. of Yanceyville; one sister, Beula Davis of High Point; a brother, Walter Chilton of High Point; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Community Baptist Church in Yanceyville.
The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. today at Rich & Thompson Funeral Home in Graham and at other times at the residence.
Walter Clayton
PROVIDENCE, N.C. - Walter Bernard Clayton, 77, of 10011 N.C. 86 North, died Tuesday, May 25, 1999, at The Brian Center Nursing Care, Yanceyville, N.C.
Born May 30, 1921, in Caswell County, N.C., he was the son of Walter Berry Clayton and Mary Durham Clayton.
He was married
to Nannie Dix Clayton, who survives
He was a member of Welcome Bapitst Church, served in the United States Navy during World War II, retired from Dan River Mills Inc. after 32 years of service.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one daughter Annette C. Parrish of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one sister, Edna Dodson of Providence; two brothers, Bill Clayton of Providence, and Herbert Clayton of Danville, Va.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Welcome Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Reaves officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at Marley Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
Dandy Ware
REIDSVILLE, N.C. - Dandy Begley Ware, 83, formerly of 115 Washington St., died Wednesday, May 26, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Born in Pittsylvania County, Va., she lived in Reidsville for many years. She was a member of New Heights Baptist Church and had been retired for many years.
She was married
to Eugene Ware, who predeceased her.
Survivors include one daughter Betty Wilson of Eden; two sons Aubrey Ware of Greensboro, N.C., and Frank Ware of Macon, Ga.; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was also predeceased by a son, Clyde Ware.
A funeral will be 4 p.m. Saturday at New Heights Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends 6:30-9 p.m. Friday at Wilkerson Funeral Home and at other times at 820 Elm Street, Eden.
William Aubry Jr.
WADESBORO, N.C. - William Kenneth Aubry Jr., 76, of 1216 Shannon Drive, formerly of Ellerbe, died Wednesday, May 26, 1999, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
Born Dec. 17, 1922, in Caldwell, N.J., he was the son of William Kenneth and Jeanne Crane Lockward Aubry.
He was married
55 years to Sara Covington Aubrey, who survives.
He was a veteran of World War II having served as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army, 11th Airborne Division, following his military service, he entered law enforcement and his career spanned 30 years. He had served as police officer in Caldwell, N.J., chief of police in Ellerbe, N.C., from 1951-1967, and as chief of police in Wadesboro from 1967 until retirement. He was a former member of the Ellerbe First United Methodist Church, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wadesboro, the Wadesboro Rotary Club and for many years had called bingo and played his omnicord as a volunteeor at Palmer Hinson Care Center in Rockingham.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters Sherry Aubry Harrell of Shallotte, Jeanne Aubry McMann of Danville, Va.; one sister Peg Johnson of Lakeworth, Fla.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Ellerbe First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dennis Glennon and the Rev. James Caviness officiating. Burial will be in Ellerbe Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and at other times at the residence in Wadesboro.
Nannie Simpson
PELHAM, N.C. - Nannie Foster Simpson, of 3984 Allison Road, died Wednesday, May 26, 1999, in Annie Penn Memorial Hospital, Reidsville.
Born Jan. 5, 1905, in Caswell County, she was the daughter of Jimmy Foster and Lillie Bell McKinney Foster.
She was married
to Palmer Howard Simpson, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church in Pelham, where she was a deaconess, mother of the church and served in the missionary circle.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include five sons Thomas E. Simpson of Baltimore, Roy W. Simpson of Reidsville, John H. Simpson, David L. Simpson and Gillis M. Simpson, all of Pelham; nine daughters, Mildred S. Phillips of Charles City, Va., Ollie M. Cobb of Pelham, Marie Mims, Ruby Cobb, Earline Simpson and Hazel Foster, all of Washington, Jeraldine Williamson of Yanceyville; Lillie Bell Vail and France Riggsbee, both of Maryland; one brother Willie Foster of Yanceyville; one sister Beatrice Gwynn of Yanceyville; 44 grandchildren and 66 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren.
A funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Mineral Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Freddie Seabook officiaitng. Burial will be in church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. at the church and at other times at the residence.

Elijah McGuire
EDEN, N.C. - Elijah "Mickey" D. McGuire, 95, of 1207 Carolina Ave., died Friday, May 28, 1999, at his home.
He was born in Henry County, Va.
He was the last charter member of Draper Church, where he had 53 years of perfect attendance. He was retired from Fieldcrest Mills.
Survivors include two daughters, Vivian M. Shough of Eden and Geraldine M. Hundley of Salisbury; one brother, Obie McGuire of Axton, Va.; six granddaughters, Diana Biggs and Denise Pierce, both of Eden, Teresa Burris of Rockwell, and Linda Rule, Kathy Costantino and Mickey Jo Long, all of Salisbury; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
The funeral will be held 4 p.m. Sunday at Draper Christian Church in Eden. Burial will be in Overlook Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at Fair Funeral Home in Eden, and at other times at the home.

Nellie Ray
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Nellie Johnson Ray, 87, of 1400 Fairview St. died Friday, May 28, 1999, at Moses Cone Hospital.Born in Greensboro, she was married
69 years to Julian Ray, who survives.
She was retired from Cone Mills. She was a member of Dan River Primitive Baptist Church in Mayfield.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Janet Rumley of Greensboro; and one granddaughter.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the church. At the request of Mrs. Ray, there will be no public visitation.
The family will receive friends at the residence. Hanes-Lineberry, North Elm Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
Sandy Bowen Harris
Austin Bowen Harris
HIGH POINT, N.C. - Sandy Bowen Harris, 29, and Austin Bowen Harris, 2, formerly of Buffalo Junction, Va., died Friday, May 28, 1999 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Halifax County.
Sandy was employed by La-France Day Spa, where she was a cosmetologist. She was a graduate of Centerville Christian School in South Boston, Va., and Guilford Technical Community College with a degree in cosmetology. She was also a member of the Moms Club in High Point.
She and Austin both attended Union Cross Baptist Church in Kernersville.
Sandy Harris is survived by her husband, Craig Harris of the home; her parents, Sanford and Shirley Sadler Bowen of Buffalo Junction; two brothers, Sean Bowen of Clover and Matthew Bowen of Buffalo Junction; and her maternal grandmother, Ada Sadler Newton of Halifax, Va.
In addition to his father and maternal grandparents, Austin Harris is survived by a paternal grandmother, Doris Harris of Danville, Va.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 1999 at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Chapel, Clarksville. The Rev. Ralph Neal will officiate. The family will receive friends today 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Curtis Leonard
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Curtis Vestal Leonard, 78, of 1203 Wakefield Road, died Saturday, May 29, 1999 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
Leonard was a native of Tyro. He was a fuel engineer for Exxon. He was in the Navy and a member of the American Legion.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Dorothy Garrett Leonard of the residence; four daughters, Carol Ann Leonard of Kennesaw, Ga., Barbara Gail Brown of Ruffin, Lois Marie Walker of Reidsville, and Virginia Mae Hackworth of Greensboro; one son Curtis Philip Leonard of Greensboro; one sister Esta Draper of Chicago; one brother Thomas Vestal Leonard Jr. of Casselberry, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren.
A graveside service for Leonard will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Westminster Gardens.
The Leonard family will receive friends at 1203 Wakefield Road today from 7 to 9 p.m.
