Terry Rhue
BLANCH, N.C. - Ellis Terry Rhue, 51, of 6372 N.C. Highway 62, died Tuesday, June 29, 1999, at his residence.
Born July 11, 1947, in Morehead City, he was the son of Elmond Davis Rhue and Estelle Brinkley Rhue, who both survive.
He was married
to Linda P. Rhue, who survives.
He graduated Averett College with a bachelor's in business. He was employed at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company as an area manager. He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard.
In addition to his wife of the residence, and parents, he is survived by one son, Stuart C. Rhue of Cary; one daughter, Libby A. Peatross of Apex; one sister, Rachel R. Gentry of Roxboro.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Townes Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert C. Royal officiating. Burial will be in New Hope United Methodist Church Cemtery, Blanch.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Leroy "Pookie" Scott Jr.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Leroy "Pookie" Scott Jr., 37, of 6106 Whitewater Drive, died Saturday, June 26, 1999, in Carolina Medical Center, Charlotte.
Born Oct. 28, 1961, in Danville, Va., he was the son of Leroy Scott Sr. and Juanita L. Scott.
He was educated in the Danville city schools system and went on to work in various fields before becoming disabled due to cardiac problems.
In addition to his parents of Danville, Va., survivors include one brother, Clifton R. Scott of Charlotte; two sisters, Alice L. Scott and Leslie Scott-Smith, both of Danville; one daughter, Latroya C. Frazier of Danville; one son, L.J. Scott of Charlotte; and his paternal grandmother, Ethel O. Scott of Danville.
A funeral wil be 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 700 Halifax Road, with the Rev. James Stewart officiating. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.

Louise McDowell
PROVIDENCE, N.C. - Louise Ware McDowell, 78, of 2755 Shady Grove Road, died Saturday afternoon, July 3, 1999.
Born Oct. 28, 1920, in Caswell County, she was the daughter of George Ware and Mary Ware.
She was married
to Herbert Lester McDowell Sr., who predeceased her Sept. 12, 1977.
She spent most of her life in the Providence community of Caswell County where she was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women club of the church. She was also a member of the Caswell County Homemakers Club and was a retired licensed practical nurse.
Survivors include two sons, H.L. "Jerry" McDowell Jr., and Mark H. McDowell, both of Providence; one brother, Charles Ware of Tampa, Fla.; three sisters, Gladys Wire of Pacific Grove, Calif., Irene Booth of Blairs, Va. and Jeanine Dix of Bellevue, Neb.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. today at Shady Grove United Methodist Church cemetery with the Rev. George Jones and the Rev. Richard Mathews officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her son, Mark McDowell, 2687 Shady Grove Road.

Louise Brandon
SEMORA, N.C. - Louise B. Brandon, 81, of 54 Scott Road, died Sunday, July 18, 1999, at Person Memorial Hospital in Roxboro, N.C.
Mrs. Brandon was born on April 24, 1918, in Pittsylvania County, the daughter of Charlie W. Brown and Pattie Frances Terry Brown.
She was first married
to Arthur H. Lewis, who predeceased her in 1965.
Mrs. Brandon was married
to Palmer Brandon, who predeceased her in 1987.
She was a licensed practical nurse at Danville Memorial Hospital and later Roman Eagle Nursing Home. Mrs. Brandon was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Patsy L. Yates of Semora; one son, Ryland S. Lewis Sr. and his wife, Carolyn O. Lewis of Blairs, Va.; one sister, Frances Whitlow of Ringgold, Va.; one brother, Raymond W. Brown of Kingsport, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Jay T. Yates of Greensboro, W. Kris Yates of Danville, Va.; Bonnie A. Hager of Boones Mill, Va.; Barbara A. Marsh and Ryland Scott Lewis Jr., both of Blairs; seven great-grandchildren, Blair Marsh, Lindsy Marsh, Joseph Marsh and Ami and Matthew Lewis, all of Blairs, Va., Britton Hager and Michael Hager, both of Boones Mill, Va.
She was predeceased by one brother, Elmo Brown.
A funeral service will be held today, July 21, 1999, 11:00 a.m. at Townes Memorial Chapel. The Rev. John Warner and the Rev. Rusty Mullins will be conducting the services. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence at 54 Scott Road.

Houston Graves Sr.
PELHAM, N.C. - Houston Edward Graves Sr., of 433 Mineral Springs Road, died Sunday, July 18, 1999, at his residence.
Born June 16, 1931, in Caswell County, he was the son of Houston Eddie Graves and Linnie Bigelow Graves.
He was married
to Jean Elnora Slade, who predeceased him.
He was a member of Graves Chapel Baptist Church and was a retired self-employed farmer.
Survivors include three sons, Houston Edward Graves Jr. and David Wayne Graves, both of Washington, and Ricky Lee Graves of Maryland; one daughter, Anita G. Graves of Pelham; two brothers, Alfred Graves and William Graves, both of Yanceyville; three sisters, Arlene Wright and Nettie Mae Pettiford of Washington, and Linnie Sue Corbett of New Jersey; and nine grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Graves Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Floyd Corbett officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.

Ruffin Rogers
MILTON, N.C. - Ruffin Bedford Rogers, 79, of 2802 Hwy 57 North, died Saturday, July 17, 1999, at Durham Regional Hospital.
Born April 27, 1920, in Person County, Va., he was the son of Lewis Rogers and Lula Snipes Rogers.
He was married
to Eliza Freeman Rogers, who survives.
He attended the public schools of Caswell County. He joined St. James Baptist Church of Leasurg, at an early age. He was a 27-year veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Conflict.
In additon to his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Marva Jeffries and Edith Farmer, both of Milton; three sons, Larry Rogers of Winston Salem, Gary Rogers of Gibonsville, and Arnold Rogers of Walkertown, N.C.; one step-daughter, Eva Cunningham of Middlesex, N.J.; four sisters, Blanche Taylor of Mount Vernon, N.Y., Marie Williams of New Rochelle, N.Y., Helmer Pass of Leasburg, N.C., Louise Moore of Roxboro; three brothers, Dewey Rogers of Washington, Preston Rogers of Mount Vernon, N.Y., Charles Rogers of Milton; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at St. James Baptist Church in Leasburg, with the Rev. Haywood Smith officiating. Burial will be in Macedonia A.M.E. Church.
A viewing will be from noon-8 p.m. today at Plenty Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.
Edwin Long Sr.
ROXBORO, N.C. - Edwin Thomas Long Sr., 78, of 1275 Robertson Road, died Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at Person Memorial Hospital.
Born in Person County, he was the son of Lewis L. Long and Quincey Shotwell Long.
He was married
to Rachel Brewer Long, who survives.
He was a member of Lamberth Memorial Baptist Church and was retired owner and operator of the Old Country Club Steak House.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one son, Edwin Thomas Long Jr. of Roxboro; three daughters, Melinda L. Sumner, Marie L. Whitt and Jo Ann L. Taylor, all of Roxboro; one brother, Flemmie Ray Long of Roxboro; one sister, Margaret L. Kirby of Roxboro; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Lamberth Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Raymond and the Rev. Herman Absher officiating. Burial will be in Person Memorial Cemetery.

Jeanette Dodd
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Jeanette Payne Dodd, 74, of 2309 Birchcrest Drive, died Thursday, July 22, 1999, at the Harris Hospice Unit of Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina after a short period of illness.
Born Jan. 28, 1925, in Danville, Va., she was the wife of the late Hugh Bennett Dodd and the daughter of Jacob T. Payne and Fannie Grimes Payne, both deceased.
She was a member of Kilgo United Methodist Church of Charlotte.
Survivors include a son, Barry Duane Dodd, a resident of the Brian Center, Reddman Road, Charlotte; sister, Geneva Payne Bridges of Charlotte; brothers, Jacob T. Payne Jr. of Mebane, N.C., William Leonard Payne of Pensacola, Fla., beloved nephew, Charles Payne Bridges, and her "adopted" grandchildren, Beth and Tommy Bridges.
She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Keith Dodd.
A graveside memorial service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, July 25, at Highland Memorial Park in Danville, Va., by the Rev. Gregory Dickens, Pastor of Kilgo United Methodist Church of Charlotte and Anthony N. Payne of Fincastle, Va., nephew of Mrs. Dodd.

Waltraut Yancey
ROLLSVILLE, N.C. - Waltraut "Trudy" Elizabeth Yancey, 68, of 208 Crestleigh St., died Sunday, July 25, 1999, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh.
She was born Dec. 14, 1930, in Germany. She was married
to Oscar Yancey.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Dale Martin of Rollsville, and Edgar Thomas Martin of Raleigh; one daughter, Evelyn Martin of Wake Forest; and four grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard Saunders officiating. Burial will be in Halifax Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 today at the funeral home.
Richard "Dick" Smith, Jr.
EDEN, N.C. - Richard Ivy "Dick" Smith, Jr., 90, of 426 Willow Oaks Farm, Eden, N.C., died Tuesday, July 27, 1999, at Morehead Nursing Center.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at the First Presbyterian Church of Eden, North Carolina, with burial at the Dan View Cemetery.
Visitation will be today, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Fair Funeral Home and at other times at the home, 426 Willow Oaks Farm, Eden.
Mr. Smith was born September 12, 1908, in Danville, Virginia. He was the son of Richard Ivy Smith and Anne Dillard Gravely Smith.
In 1916, the Smith family moved from Danville, Virginia to Willow Oakes Farm near what was then the tri-cities of Leaksville, Spray, and Draper. Dick Smith attended a one-room school for several years before attending Draper Graded and Leaksville High School.
He ran a dairy at Willow Oaks Farm for 50 years until his retirement. He was one of the original founders of Meadow Daries Creamery.
Mr. Smith was a charter member of the First Presbyterian Church of Eden, lifetime member of the Draper - later Eden - Rotary Club, a member of the Eden School Board for eight years, and a Rockingham County Commissioner for eight years.
He was married
for 65 years to Louise Dula Smith who predeceased him.
Surviving are his children, Marjorie Smith Starling of Atlanta, Richard Ivy Smith III of Eden, and Robert Dula Smith of Eden, four granddaughters and six great-grandchildren.
