Leonard Foster

REIDSVILLE, N.C. - Leonard Odell Foster, 81, of Brian Center in Eden, died Friday, July 30, 1999.

Born in Rockingham County, N.C., he was the son of the late Dave Foster and Queen Finney Foster. He retired from Fieldcrest Mills and was a member of Dan River Primitive Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Shirley Grant and Frank Grant of Ringgold, Va.; one sister, Gracie Adams of Ruffin, N.C.; two grandchildren, Debra Alderson and Teresa Smith; and five great grandchildren.

A funeral will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Wilkerson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Dan River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends today at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Wilkerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Louise Fuquay

BLANCH, N.C. - Louise Rowland Fuquay, 83, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, at the Brian Center in Yanceyville.

A native of Christiansburg, she was the daughter of Monroe Rowland and Amanda Tuck Rowland. She graduated from high school, was a member of Blanch Baptist Church and was a housewife.

She is survived by one daughter, Dorothy Roberts of Burlington; four sons, Lynwood R. Cook of Graham, Raymond P. Cook of Semora, Larry M. Cook of Yanceyville and F. Dwight Cook of Burlington; a sister, Catherine Helwig of Camden, N.J.; one brother, Ben Rowland of Blanch; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, William Fuquay, in Sept. 16, 1990, and by her son, Jerry W. Cook.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Blanch Baptist Church with George Rumney, pastor, and Jonathan Freeman officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Hooper Funeral Home from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and at other times at the home of Raymond Cook, 1105 Bolton Road, Hyco Lake, Semora.

Katherine Hairston

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Katherine Moore Hairston, 77, of 1900 West First St. and formerly of 234 Zimmerman Road, Lexington, died Thursday, July 29, 1999 at the Winston-Salem Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center following a period of illness.

Hairston was a native of Northfolk, W.Va., born on Jan. 1, 1922 to John Edgar and Mary Virgin Moore.

She was educated in the schools of West Virginia, formerly lived in Danville, Va., and was a retired employee of Danville Memorial Hospital where she worked in the field of proctical nursing. Upon moving to North Carolina, she affiliated with the Righteous Church of God, Midway. Hairston was an avid seamstress.

She was preceded in death by an only child, Aelois Scott Wagner Samuels, a brother, Henry Moore and a sister, Lenora Moore.

She is survived by a brother, Magellan Moore of Columbus, Ohio; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Monday from the chapel of the Russell Funeral Home, 822 Carl Russell Avenue, Winston-Salem, with the Rev. Juanita Tatum officiating. Interment will be in the Piedmont Memorial Gardens.

Family visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. today at Russell Funeral Home.

Hazel Jackson

CARY, N.C. - Hazel Marie Neal Jackson, 69, of 1006 Randolph Court, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, in Pettigrew Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Raleigh.

Born May 5, 1930, in Danville, Va., she was the daughter of Walter Flourney Neal and Ida Mae Compton Neal.

She was married icon to Lloyd Jackson, who predeceased her.

She worked at Dan River Inc. as a Winder Tender. She was a member of the Baptist Tabernacle. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxilliary Post No. 325.

Survivors include two sons, Lloyd Noland Jackson of Salem, Va., and Lloyd Randall Jackson of Wilmington; two daughters, Thelma Jean Craig of Spencer, and Sandra Darlene Humphries of Cary; two brothers, Stewart Neal of Huntsville, Ala., and Junior Edward Neal of Danville; one sister, Lla Mae Canupp of Danville; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by three brothers.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lammarr Mooneyham and the Rev. Cleo Hundley officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of his brother, 408 Girard St., Danville.

Howard Higgs

EDEN, N.C. - Howard Higgs, 72, of 842 Warren Ave., died Wednesday, August 4, 1999, at Piney Forest Health Center.

Born in Ridgeway, Va., he was married icon to Marie S. Higgs, who survives.

He was retired from Fieldcrest Mills after 37 years of service.

In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three sons, R.D. Higgs of Richmond, Va., and James Higgs and Willard Higgs, both of Danville, Va.; three sisters, Lillie Pulliam and Cassie Bell, both of Eden, and Sally Macy Ames of Bassett, Va.; five grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.

Fair Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements which are incomplete at this time.

Collie Collins

YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Collie Collins, 83, of Hwy. 62 North, died Thursday, August 5, 1999, in Danville, Va.

He was married icon to Louise Thomas Collins, who survive.

In addition to his wife, survivors include six sons, Ray Collins and Donnie Collins, both of Sanford, Terry Collins of High Point, Earl Collins and Mike Collins, both of Yanceyville and Jerry Collins of the residence; three daughters, Brenda Wall of Kenly, Ann Tart of Yanceyville and Debbie Woodson of Ruffin; five sisters, Ruby Davis and Mildred Coe, both of Sanford, N.C., Lema Lewter of Cary, and Josephine Clemons and Willie Harmon, both of Richmond, Va.; 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son Carlie "Punk" Collins; one brother, Hubert Colins and one sister, Virginia Heath.

The family will receive friends 6-8 Saturday at Bridges Cameron Funeral Home in Sanford and at the family ome in Yanceyville.

Bertha Vestal Aheron

EDEN, N.C. - Bertha Vestal Aheron, 97, 223 Clifton St., died Saturday morning, Aug. 7, 1999, at Morehead Nursing Center.

Born in Spray, she was a member of Spray Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher and member of the WMU.

She was a former member of the Red Men Pocohanas. She was retired from Spray Cotton Mills.

She was married icon to Daniel "Dan" Aheron, who predeceased her.

Survivors include three sons, George Aheron of Eden, William Aheron of Dallas and Wilfred Aheron of Rock Hill, S.C.; three daughters, Bertillia Rudd of Reidsville, and Iris Earps and Gloria Robertson, both of Eden; and one sister, Ocie Payne of Charlotte.

She was predeceased by two daughters, Sunshine Hall and Havens Joyce.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Spray Baptist Church. Burial will be in Overlook Cenentary.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7-9 p.m. at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of George Aheron, 333 N. Jackson St., Eden.

John Haley

PELHAM, N.C. - John Eddie Haley, 60, of 3608 Chandlers Mill Road, died Saturday, August 7, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.

Born August 25, 1938, in Pittsylvania County, Va., he was the son of Charlie Lee Haley Sr. and Thelma Jones Haley of Yanceyville, N.C.

He was married icon to Lunia W. Haley, who survive.

He was employed at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for many years prior to his retirement.

In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, Darrell Keith Haley of Fort Benning, Ga. and Marcus Wayne Haley of the residence; two sisters, Minnie H. Williamson of Pelham and Evelyn Carolyn Haley of Roosevelt, N.Y.; three brothers, James Lewis Haley and Earl Thomas Haley, both of Pelham, and Charlie Lee Haley Jr. of Danville.

A funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Shockoe Baptist Church with the Rev. George Pass officiating. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. today at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence.

Paul Warren

THOMASVILLE, N.C. - Paul Gilliam Warren, 77, of 116 Pleasant Drive, died Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, in North Carolina Hospital, Chapel Hill.

Born Aug. 28, 1921, in High Point, N.C., he was the son of Lloyd Henry Warren Sr. and Hattie Mae Gilliam Warren.

He was married icon Dec. 8, 1940, to Helen Jarrell Warren, who survives.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving with the 106 Division during World War II and was a prisoner of war during the Battle of the Bulge. He was a retired employee of Sherwin-Williams, Inc. of Greensboro and the Lily Company, Inc. of High Point. He was a member of Unity United Methodist Church, where he served with various committees, including the Administrative Board.

In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Trudy Warren Keever of the residence, and Janet Warren Payne of Danville; one son, Paul Gilliam Warren Jr. of Morristown, Tenn.; one brother, Lloyd H. Warren Jr. of High Point; and five grandchildren.

He was predeceased by one brother, Elmer C. Warren.

A funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Unity United Methodist Church with the Rev. DeForest E. Hillyer Jr. and Rev. Wilbur A. Jarrett officiating. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park cemetery.

The remains will lie in state at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home 30 minutes prior to the service.

The family will receive friends 6:30-7:30 p.m. Sunday at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home.

Thomas Blackwell

YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Thomas Albert Blackwell, of 2185 Foster Road, died Monday, Aug. 9, 1999, at his residence. Born Dec. 26, 1923, in Caswell County, he was the son of Thomas Irvin Blackwell and Flossie Blackwell.

He was married icon to Beatrice Mitchell Blackwell, who survives.

He was a member of Red Hill Baptist Church and was a retired employee of J.P. Stephens. He was also a tobacco farmer in the community.

In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three sons, Thomas Albert Blackwell Jr., Arthur Anthony Blackwell and Carl Irvin Blackwell, all of Yanceyville; two daughters, Mary Blackwell Francis of Clemmon, and Brenda Blackwell Beebe of Staford, Va.; three brothers, Algie Blackwell and Johnny Blackwell, both of Yanceyville, and Rosevelt Blackwell of Norfolk, Va; four sisters Mary B. Long, Ellen Blackwell and Mae Evelyn Blackwell, all of Yanceyville and Zueelnor Sessons of Norfolk, Va.; 15 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Red Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Gregory Hopkins officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.

A viewing will be 2-8 p.m. today at Fulton Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at the residence.
