Richard Marion
PROVIDENCE, N.C. - Richard Marion, 58, of 1508 Walters Mill Road, died at 6:10 a.m. Tuesday, August 17, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 9, 1941, in Franklin, N.J., he was the son of Claude Marion and Emma Ricker Marion.
He was married
to Linda Hodge Marion, who survives.
He lived on Walter Mill Road approx. 28 years. He worked in the Packing Department and was a member of the Teamster Union at the Miller Brewing Company and was of the Presbyterian faith. He became ill at home early Tuesday morning and was dead on arrival at the hosptal.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Sandra Marion Tickle of Blanche, Connie Marion Lawson of Lynchburg, Va., and Marie Marion Dalton of Ringgold, Va.; one son, Robert Joseph "Bobby" Marion of Danville; three sisters, Evelyn Moen of New Jersey and Marie Kenyou and Jeanette Wasko, both of New York; three step-daughters, Betty Jean Gilley of Eden, Penny Hodge of Aiken, S.C., and Susan Hodge of Eden,; two step-sons, Billy Hodge of Eden, and Robert Hodge of Providence; eight grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren and one step-great grandchild.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Smith and Rev. Keith Bowling officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
Louise Moore
KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. - Louise Viccellio Moore, 72, of Apt. 14A Battleforest Apartments, died Wednesday, August 11, 1999, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
Born in Halifax County, Va., she was the daugher of Cephus Viccellio and Sadie Walker Viccellio.
She was married
to Garnett Walton Moore Sr. who predeceased her.She was retired from Wal-Mart and was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Kings Mountain.
Survivors include two sons, Pete Moore of Lawndale and David of Rock Hill, S.C.; three daughters, Vickie Cowan of Odessa, Fla., Karen Bell of Kings Mountain, N.C. and Susan Moore of Shelby, N.C.; two sisters, Elizabeth Meetze of Danville and Sadie Raw Robertson of Roxboro; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sister, Suzanne Lee and Rosa Mae Russell of Roxboro, N.C.
A funeral was 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Morris Jordan officiating. Burial was at Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family received friends at the residence of her daughter Karen Bell, 726 Oak Grove Road, Kings Mountain.
Emma Chandler
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Emma Garland Lipscomb Chandler, of 305 Third Ave., died Wednesday, August 18, 1999, at her residence.
Born July 17, 1925, in Caswell County, N.C., she was the daughter of Eddie Garland and Lucille Wade Garland.
She was married
to James Frank Lipscomb, who predeceased her, and later married
Hubert Chandler, who also predeceased her.
She was a member of High Rock Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Survivors include one daughter, Catherine L. Lipscomb of Yanceyville; two sons, James Lipscomb of Harrisburg, Pa., and Thomas Lipscomb of Roxboro; two sisters, Lula B. Miles and Alene McCain, both of Blanch; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and three step- grandchildren.
In addition to her first and second husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Willie Eddie Garland and Junior Garland.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at High Rock Baptist Church. Burial will be in church cemetery.
A viewing will be 2-8 p.m. Saturday at Fulton Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her daughter, 285 First Ave., Yanceyville.
Ralph Boyles
EDEN, N.C. - Ralph James Boyles, 74, of 2009 Mill Ave., died August 20, 1999, at N.C. Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.
He was married
to Dale Cassell Boyles of the residence
Born in Draper, N.C., he was a member of First United Methodist Church of Eden, the VFW, and a former member of Loyal Order of the Moose.
He was a WW II Navy veteran and was retired from Fieldcrest Mills.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his wife, one daughter, Vickie B. Harrelson of Danville; two sisters, Ercell Williams of Danville, Va., and Myrtle Manley of Reidsville; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Fair Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will be in Danview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Malcolm "Soggy" Harrelson
RUFFIN, N.C. - Malcolm W. "Soggy" Harrelson, 85, of 7790 Park Springs Road, died Sunday, August 22, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health.
Born in Caswell County, he was the son of William B. and Selena Walker Harrelson.
He attended Caswell County schools was retired from the Caswell County Sheriff Department. He was also a farmer and a member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Marshall Harrelson of Yanceyville; two daughters, Betty H. Reagan of Ruffin and LaRue H. Giles of Danville, Va.; six stepsons, Monroe D. Marshall and Richard L. Marshall, both of Chatham, Va., Cliff Marshall of Providence, George Marshall of Ruffin, Dennis Marshall of Yanceyville and Thomas W. Yeatts of Henderson; two stepdaughters, Ruby Sizemore and Shelia Shomali, both of Ruffin; three sisters, Octola H. Poteat of Yanceyville, Roberta H. Robertson of Reidsville and Gladys H. Rainey of Ruffin; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church with Rev. Claude Harrelson officiating. The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Monday at Hooper Funeral Home in Yanceyville.
Emily Lewis
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Emily Finch Lewis, 78, died at Carolina's Medical Center, Saturday, August 21, 1999.
Born Sept. 2, 1920, in Pittsylvania County, Va., she was the daughter of Dillard Harwick Finch and Beatrice Ann Atkinson Finch.
She was a graduate of Averett College and a member of V.F.W. Post No. 9948 Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include one son, Carl Terry Lewis of Charlotte; five sisters, Ruby Walton, Rachel Durham and Jane Jones, all of Danville, Va., Lois Chaffin of Roanoke, Va., and Beatrice Finch of Altavista, Va.; and one grandson. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sharon Memorial Park with Pastor Sherry Allen officiating.
Hankins and Whittington Dilworth Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Gladie Merchant
EDEN, N.C. - Gladie Arimenta Hylton Merchant, 77, of 132 Cedarwood Drive, died Sunday, August 22, 1999, at Dodson Home Care.
She was born in Danville, Va., and was a homemaker.
Survivors include one daughter, Glendon Jones of Bluffton, S.C.; one brother, Henry Hylton of Danville, Va.; one sister, Genevieve Hylton Green of Danville; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at the Hylton family cemetery 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Fair Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Agnes Billingsley
REIDSVILLE, N.C. - Agnes Toler Billingsley, 84, died Monday, August 23, 1999, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
She was married
to James Ezra Billingsley, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Faith Baptist Church and a native of Pittsylvania County.
She retired from the American Tobacco Company after many years.
Survivors include two sons, J.P. Billingsley of Reidsville and William Pat Billingsley of Eden, N.C.; two daughters, Marie B. Smith of Reidsville and Mary Ann Cooper of Pelzer, S.C.; three sisters, Clella Nester of Blairs, Madeline Elliot of Danville and Ynell Brumfield of Roanoke; one brother, Randall Toler of Gretna; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Dehart officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Wilkerson Funeral Home and at other times the family will receive friends at the residence.
Lloyd Webb
PROVIDENCE, N.C. - Lloyd Coy Webb, 75, of 20 Pritchett Drive, died Wednesday afternoon, August 25, 1999,after one year of declining health.
Born May 22, 1924, in Ferrum, he was the son of Abraham Lincoln "Jesse" Webb and Mae Hale Webb Saunders.
He was formerly married
to Gertrude Frye Webb, who survives.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in the Phillipines during World War II.
He spent most of his life in Danville where he was retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company.
In addition to his former wife of Danville, survivors include one son, Wayne Coy Webb of Gloucester; two daughters, Barbara Webb Smith of Providence and Sandy Webb of Gloucester; three brothers, Roy Webb of Providence, Junus Webb of Danville, Va., and Donnie Webb of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and two sisters, Elaine Horne and Bevoline Sigmon, both of Martinsville; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Smith and the Rev. Dr. Charles B. Scearce officiating.
Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville.
Jerry Fletcher
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Jerry Troy Fletcher, 16, of 2707 Patio Place Apt. D, died Wednesday, August 25, 1999, in Benton, Tenn.
Born Jan. 5, 1983 in Danville, Va., he was the son of the late Jerry T. Garland and Robin Fletcher, who survives.
He was a former student of George Washington High School. He was a member of East New Hope Baptist Church and a member of the youth ministry.
In addition to his mother of the residence, survivors include two sisters, Erica Fletcher and Jessica Fletcher both of Greensboro; paternal grandmother, Charlie Waller of New Jersey; and paternal grandparents, Prince and Frances Garland of Danville.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at East New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Marcellous Mack officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the home of his grandparents, Prince and Francis Garland, 148 Water Street, Danville.
