Kiya Smith
EDEN, N.C. - Kiya J. Smith, 6 months, of 257 Odle Lane, died Nov. 12, 1999. Born May 8, 1999 in Forsyth County, she was the daughter of Brian and Toni Smith.
In addition to the parents of the home, survivors include one brother, Brian Keith Smith Jr. of the home; maternal grandparents, James and Frances Patterson and paternal grandparents, James and Georgia Smith, all of Cascade, Va.; great-grandmothers, Nannie M. Smith of Cascade, Va., and Mary A. Taylor of Eden. A funeral will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at New St. Paul Baptist Church. Burial will be in Eden Gardens Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Monday at the church. Perry-Spencer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Louise Shepard
ROXBORO, N.C. - Louise Coates Shepard, 69, of 217 Burch Ave., died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at Duke Medical Center.
Born in Campbell County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Callie Coates and Nellie Mason Coates. She married
LeRoy Shepard, who predeceased her.She was a member of Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Shepard of Blanche, and Beverly S. Thompson of Roxboro; one son, Ronnie Shepard of Roxboro; one brother, the Rev. Cecil Coates of Providence; two sisters, Myrtle Carver of Roxboro and Brenda Perkins of Durham; and five grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brooks & White Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Herbert Brown and the Rev. Mike Hearp officiating. Burial will be in Burchwood Cememtery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel.
Sonja Garland
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Sonja Renee Garland, 18, of 459 Melvin Wrenn Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999.
Born May 13, 1981, in Chapel Hill, she was the daughter of Anthony Garland and Penny Watlington Graves, who both survive.
In addition to her mother and father, survivors include one daughter, Mahogany Williams of Yanceyville; two brothers, Deshaun L. Pettiford of Yanceyville and Anthony Garland Jr. of Danville, Va.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999 from Cornerstone Church of Jesus Christ by the Elder James Leak. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.

Eunice Adams
EDEN, N.C. - Eunice Riley Hayes Adams, 90, of 1025 Hillcrest Drive in Eden North Carolina, died at her residence Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999.
Born April 18, 1909 in Danville, Va. she was the daughter of George P. Riley and Alma Morgan Riley.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Jesse J. Hayes and also her second husband, Harry H. Adams.
She spent most of her life in Danville before moving to Eden, to live with her daughter. She was a telephone operator with C & P Telephone Company for 45 years before retiring at the age of 62. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and First Christian Church on Jefferson Avenue.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty H. Shropshire, of Eden; two sons, George Lee Hayes and George Scott Hayes, both of Danville, Va.; one sister, Ruth Webb of Orlando, Fla.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel and other times at the residence in Eden.
Dorothy Simerson
RUFFIN, N.C. - Dorothy Hopper Simerson, 78, 9816 U.S. Highway 158 West, in Ruffin, N.C., died Sunday morning, Nov. 28, 1999 at her residence.
Born in Rockingham County, she was the daughter of Jim Hooper and Georgia Lilliard Hopper.
She was married
to Wilburn F. Simerson, who survives her. She lived in the Reidsville area for most of her life, and had lived in Caswell County since 1986. She was a homemaker and a member of Shady Grive Baptist Church.
In addition to the husband of the residence, she is survived by one son Mickey Farris Simerson of Atlanta, Ga.; two daugthers and their husbands, Judy Simerson Strader and Ed. G. Strader of Ruffin, N.C. and Jean Simerson Scott and Don Scott of Lebanon, Tenn.; one sister, Ruby Delancey of Reidsville, N.C. and three grandchildren, Kristen Simerson, Will Strader and Ashley Scott.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wilkerson Funeral HOme in Reidsville, N.C. The burial will be at Reidlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m Monday at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
Theodore McGhee
LEASBURG, N.C. - Theodore McGhee, 81, of 3747 Hwy 119N, died Saturday morning at The Brian Center, Yanceyville.
Born April 10, 1918, in Caswell County, he was the son of York McGhee and Martha McGhee. He married
Roberta McGhee, who survive.
He attended the Temple Christ Holiness Church in Milton.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three daughters Margaret Hatfeild of Greenlevel, Nancy McGhee and Monica McGhee, both of Burlington; two sons Bobby McGhee of Burlington and Charles McGhee of Mebane; 20 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. A wake will be 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at Temple Christ Holiness Church.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the church with Bishop James Morton officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence.

Lena Crews
ROXBORO, N.C. - Lena Shelton Crews, 82, formerly of 117 Mitchell St. of Danville, died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, at Roxboro Nursing Center following an extended illness.
Born in Forsyth County, she was the daughter of Dempsey Savanna and Ida Jenkins Shelton.
She was retired from the state of Virginia and was of the Methodist Faith.
Survivors include one son, Lawrence Earl Crews Jr. of Yanceyville; four daughters, Lendy C. Payne of Danville, Va., Louise C. Briggs of Leasburg, Va., Irene C. Adams of Richmond, Va. and Gail S. Davis of South Boston, Va.; one brother, James W. Shelton of Goldsboro; one sister, Mary S. Stone of Roxboro; 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joe Grubbs officiating. Burial will be in Person Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Strickland Funeral Home and at other times at the residences of Louise Briggs, 23 Woody Road, Leasburg and Dee Dee Horner, 663 Providence Road, Roxboro.

Fannie Fuqua
PROVIDENCE, N.C. - Fannie Lee Fuqua, 76, of 630 Gatewood Road Extension, died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 6, 1926, in Caswell County, she was the daughter of Arnie S. Lee and Viola Marshall Lee.
She married
James Hughes Fuqua, who predeceased her in August of 1967.
She spent most of her life in the Gatewood Community of Caswell County. She was employed with Greyhound Vending Company and was a member of Community Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, John Barry Fuqua of the residence; and one sister, Ivy Lee Robertson of Providence.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Community Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Smith officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Saturday at Swicegood Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
Michael Rice
PROVIDENCE, N.C. - Michael Wayne Rice, 35, of 191 Jeffress Road Ext., died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, as a result of an automobile accident in Caswell County.
Born Dec. 24, 1963, in Danville, Va., he was the son of Horace M. Rice and Margaret Goodson Rice, who both survive.
He lived his entire life in Danville and Providence.
He was of the Baptist Faith and worked for Frank Moorefield Construction Company.
In addition to his parents of the residence, survivors include one sister Kathy A. Rice of Providence; three brothers, Donnie Bray, Jeffrey Scott Rice and Chris Rice, all of Providence; and maternal grandmother, Edna L. Rust of Greendale, Va.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Welcome Baptist Church Cemetery, Hwy 62 North, Blanch, with the Rev. Jimmy Reaves officiating.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and at other times at the residence of his sister, 85 Jeffress Road Ext.
Johnny Brown
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Johnny Brown, of 6199 Badgett Sister Parkway, died Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, at his residence.
Born July 3, 1924, in Caswell County, he was the son of Scott Brown and Nevia Moore Brown.
He was a farm helper and of the Primitive Baptist Faith.
Survivors include two sisters, Mable Turner of Yanceyville and Elizebeth Byrd of Columbus, Ohio.
A viewing will be 2-8 p.m. Friday at Fulton Funeral Home Chapel.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Odell Walker officiating. Burial will be in The Page Arbor Primitive Baptist Church, Burlington.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
