Lawrence Collins

PROVIDENCE, N.C. -Lawrence Collins, 75, 250 Walters Mill Road, died on Friday, Dec. 10, 1999, in Danville Regional Medical Center after three years of declining health.

Born Nov. 28, 1924 in Caswell County, he was the son of William Joseph Collins and Lizzie Jane "Ma" Stanley Collins.

He married icon Virginia Christine Eanes Collins April 1, 1946, who survives. He lived most of his life in Pittslyvania and Caswell County. where he was self-employed in produce until his retirement in 1996. He attended Emmanuel Holiness Church.

In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by one daughter, Betty Jean Collins Vaden of Danville; four sons, Larry Monroe Collins, Tony Glenn Collins, Carl Thomas Collins and Jerry Lynn Collins, all of Providence; one sister, Ivenia Barbour, and one brother, Leonard "Jack" Collins, both of Danville; 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by one son, Roger Ray Collins who died in 1996; five brothers, Harry Collins, Cecil Collins, Jim Collins, Eugene Collins, and Gilbert Collins; three sisters, Nellie Roach, Kathleen Ganey and Katie Collins, and two grandchildren.

A funeral will be 2 p.m., Monday, at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Joey Yeatts officiating. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Townes Funeral Home. Other times will be at the residence.

Townes Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Edgar Carroll, Sr.

PROVIDENCE, N.C. - Eugene Edgar Carroll, Sr., 94, formerly of 289 Carroll Road died Wednesday, December 15, 1999, at Brian Center, Yanceyville after a period of declining health.

He was born in Danville, Va., the son of Reuben H. and Marthann Patterson Carroll.

On November 10, 1928 he married icon Annie Lee Wood Carroll, who predeceased him April 5, 1986.

He was employed by Dan River Mills as foreman over the carpentry shop for forty-two years. A member of Providence Baptist Church, he served on the Board of Deacons, as a Sunday School Teacher, Brotherhood Witness Leader, Bass singer in the choir and was active in the Adult Union. He also served as treasurer of the church for 25 years, and was active member of many other church committees and was a member of Dan River Retired Club.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a son Eugene Edgar Carroll Jr. on October 28, 1997.

Survivors as one son, Sidney Irvin Carroll and wife Annie Laurie Carroll of Providence, Mary Ruth Carroll a daughter-in-law, three sisters Minnie Powell of Providence, Omie Poteat and Bernice Goodson, both of Danville, a brother Mac Carroll of Providence, grandchildren Eugene E. (Eddie) Carroll III, James (Jimmy) Carroll, Carl Carroll, Gary Carroll and Cindy Stanfield and eight great grand-children.

Funeral service will be Saturday 11 A.M. at Providence Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Allen Thompson and Rev. Ken Clark. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday 7-9 P.M. at Hooper Funeral Home in Yanceyville and at other times at the home of Irvin Carroll, 289 Carroll Road, Providence.

Memorials may be made to Providence Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, Providence Fire Dept., Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 1005 Bullard Court, Raleigh, N.C. 27615 or to the charity of choice.

Hooper Funeral Home of Yanceyville is in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth Carter Parham

RALEIGH, N.C. - Elizabeth Carter Parham, 88, died Thursday, December 16, 1999.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 20, 1999, at Highland United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Raleigh National Cemetery.

Mrs. Parham is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kennon Parham Deluca and Pietro Deluca of Rome, Italy; sister, Annie Carter Brandon of Danville, Va.; grandson Francesco Webster Parham Deluca of Rome, Italy; three step-grandchildren, Alberto Deluca, Laura Deluca and Modesta Deluca; and a number of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and many friends.

The family will be receiving friends 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, St. Mary's St., and at other times at the home of Mrs. Betty Neal, 3506 Carriage Dr., Raleigh.

Brown-Wynne Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Rochelle Breedlove

HIGH POINT, N.C. - Rochelle Breedlove, 85, former resident of Oakwood Street, died Saturday in the Westwood Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Born January 15, 1914, in Johnston County, she was the daughter of Earnest Leonard and Lena Harrell Breedlove.

She had been a resident of High Point most of her life and was a retired employee of Amos Hosiery Inc.

Survivors include one niece, Florence Breedlove Rollins of Sparta; and two nephews, Paul Breedlove of Winston-Salem and David Breedlove of Minneapolis, Minn.

A funeral will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale with Dr. James A. Summey officiating. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 1 hour before the service at the funeral chapel.

Dorothy Gentry

MILTON, N.C. - Dorothy Dameron Gentry, 78, formerly of Danville, died Monday, Dec. 20, 1999, at her residence.

Born March 12, 1921, in Draper, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Jacob Hayes Dameron and Louise Burkes Dameron.

She was married icon 45 years to Charles Lee Gentry Sr. who predeceased her in November 1987.

Survivors include one son, Charles Lee Gentry Jr. of Danville, Va.; four daughters, Marie G. Byrum of Roseland, Va., Charlene G. Shores of Hagerstown, Md., and Edith G. Myers, and Dorothy (Dottie) G. Abott, both of Gretna, Va.; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Leemont Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the residence of her son, Charles Lee Gentry.

Byrum-Parr Funeral Home, Roseland, Va., is in charge of arrangements.

Banks Brown

PELHAM, N.C. - Banks Edward Brown of 3879 Allison Road died Saturday morning, Dec. 25, 1999, at the Brian Center in Yanceyville.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Caswell County.

He was a member of New Ephesus Baptist Church and was a retired farmer.

Survivors include seven daughters, Marietta Moyer and Lillie Patterson, both of Danville, Va., Fannie Swift of Norfolk, Va., Mabel Clark of Greensboro, Margaret Turner and Viola Madkins, both of Ruffin, and Diane Mims of Pelham; six sons, Floyd Brown of Ruffin, Arthur Brown and Willie Brown, both of Reidsville, William Brown of Greensboro, Walter Brown of Pelham and Alfred Brown of Danville; one sister, Henrietta McLauglin of Washington, D.C.; one brother, Zebb Brown of Eden; 31 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at New Ephesus Church with the Rev. William E. Lee officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

Johnson & Sons is in charge of arrangements.

Vera Cooper

PELHAM, N.C. - Vera Myrtle Cooper, 99, of 547 Arthur Carter Road, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, in the Brian Center in Yanceyville.

Born Nov. 16, 1900, in Guilford County, she was the daughter of Robert Smith Cooper and Martha Durham Cooper.

She lived most of her life in Pelham and was a member of Friends Meeting at Guilford College.

She was an honorary member of Pelham United Methodist Church Women's Missionary Society.

Survivors include one sister, Mary C. Carter of Pelham and one brother, Odell Cooper of Danville, Va.

A funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Robert Fritts officiating. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. at the the New Garden Friends Cemetery in Greensboro.

The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home Monday from 7 to 8 p.m., and other times at the residence.

Townes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Freeman Price

PELHAM, N.C. - Freeman Lee Price of 285 Jennings Blackwell Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at the Brian Center in Yanceyville.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Caswell County, N.C.

Mr. Price was a retiree of Nations Bank in Danville Va. and was a member of Men In Christ.

He was a faithful member of Gwynn's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, where he served with the Senior Choir, Spiritual Choir and Deacon Board.

Survivors include his loving wife of many years, Mrs. Lizzie Toney Price of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Nancy P. Hairston and spouse, Roland Clark Hairston of Pelham; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and other relatives and many treasured friends.

A funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday from Gwynn's Chapel Baptist Church in Pelham. Rev. Charles W. Glenn will preside and interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family visitation will be Monday from 1:30 p.m. until the service begins at the church.

Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, 115 Holderby St., Reidsville, N.C. is serving the family.

Ellis Lewis

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Ellis Giles Lewis, 82, of 6475 U.S. Hwy 29 South, died Monday, December 27, 1999, at Cone Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 30, 1999, at Apple's Chapel Christian Church, of which he was a member, with interment to follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Lewis was a native of Pittsylvania County, VA and was retired from Blue Bell Mfg. Co. as a Quality Control Inspector. He was a member of the Sunshine Sunday School Class in his church.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille W. Lewis of the home; daughter, Carolyn Shepherd and husband Fred of McLeansville; son, Giles Lewis and wife Jewel of Reidsville; sisters, Polly Gentry of Danville, VA, Mrs. Bobby Nowell of Reidsville; brothers, Claude Lewis of Crawford, NE, Billy Lewis of Yanceyville, Barney Lewis of Reidsville, E.L. Lewis of Danville, VA; grandchildren, Lisa Hunsucker, Michael O'Briant, Todd Lewis, Scotty Lewis, Leigh Anne Stewart; 6 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Forbis & Dick North Elm Street Funeral Home Wednesday from 7:00 until 8:30 PM and other times at the home of her daughter, 4905 Luewood Road, McLeansville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Apple's Chapel Christian Church, 7345 NC Hwy 61 North, Gibonsville, NC 27249.

Myrtle King

RUFFIN, N.C. - Myrtle King, 76, died December 30, 1999, at her home after five years of declining health.

Born January 1, 1923, in Caswell County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Annie Farrish and Julius C. King.

Myrtle served humanity well, earned everything she got out of life ­ (never smoked), never a burden, always a smiling pleasure.

Survivor include: one brother, Charlie "Clayton" King, of the home; four sisters, Madeline Clark, of the home; Annette Henderson, Pelham, NC, Pansy Foster, Yanceyville, NC and Gracie King, of the home. Preceded her in death, one sister, Daisy Parker and one brother, Wilbur King.

Funeral services will be at New Ephesus Baptist Church, Ruffin, NC Monday, January 3, 2000, with interment in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 409 S. Main Street, Reidsville, NC or New Ephesus Baptist Church, 8939 Hwy 158, Ruffin, NC.

McLaurin Funeral Home, Reidsville, NC is in charge of arrangements.
