Bernard Dixon
PROVIDENCE, N.C. - Bernard Harding Dixon, 78, of 2091 Park Springs Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Annie Penn Memorial Hospital, Reidsville.
Born March 18, 1921, in Caswell County, he was the son of Nichalas Allen Dixon and Elizabeth Limbaugh Dixon.
He was married
to Reba Moss Dixon, who survives, May 18, 1948. He was a loom fixer at Dan River Inc., for over 50 years. He was a resident at High Grove Rest Home, Reidsville, at the time of his death. He was a member of Moons Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one son, Dale Bernard Dixon; one half sister, Minnie Lee Jefferson, and one sister, Ida Forbes.
A funeral will be 4 p.m. Friday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Moon's Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Barker Funeral Home, Inc.
Veleria Boswell Madren
BURLINGTON, N.C. - Mrs. Veleria Boswell Madren, 89, formerly of 2048 Basin Creek Road died Wednesday, February 23, 2000, at 2:15 AM in Liberty Commons, after six months of failing health.
She was born in Caswell County, the daughter of the late William Burl Boswell and the late Swannie Walker Boswell.
She was married
to the late Ubert Elliot "U.E." Madren. She was a homemaker and member of Kerr's Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Eva Fitch of Burlington, Mrs. Swannoa Oakley of Burlington, and Mrs. Gertrude Rice of Graham; one brother, Mr. Staley Boswell of Caswell, and one granddaughter, Mrs. Ann Marie Meletzke of Burlington.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by one son, William Burl Madren; two sisters, Erma Sutton and Mabel Herndon, and two brothers, Claude Boswell and Preston Boswell.
A graveside service will be at Kerr's Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery at 3:00 PM, Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, with the Rev. Marvin Simpson, Pastor, officiating.
Mrs. Madren will remain at Lowe Funeral Home until taken to the cemetery for the service. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday at Lowe Funeral Home, and other times at the granddaughter's home: Mrs. Ann Marie Meletzke, 2007 Basin Creek Road, Burlington.

John Pruitt
PELHAM, N.C. - John Thomas Pruitt, 83, of 191 Pruitt Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 15, 1916, in Pittsylvania County, Va., he was a son of George W. Pruitt and Jenny Crowder Pruitt.
He was married
for almost 50 years to Ila Cook Pruitt, who predeceased him on May 6, 1991. He was a farmer and well-known basket maker in Pelham. He was a member and deacon of Sheldon Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Barker and Sheila Barker, both of Pelham; one sister, Mamie Hunt of Greensboro; five half-brothers, June Pruitt, Paul Pruitt, Joe Pruitt, Jack Pruitt, and Ricky Pruitt; three half-sisters, Elsie Setliff, Sallie Scearce and Nancy Rowland; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Sheldon Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Hall officiating. Interment will be in Schoolfield Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Sheldon Baptist Church and other times at the residence of his daughter, 234 Pruitt Road.

Napoleon Turner III
REIDSVILLE, N.C. - Napoleon Junior Turner III, 72, of 144 June Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at Annie Penn Hospital.
He was married
to Elsie Lee Pruitt Turner, who survives. He was a native of Pittsylvania County. He was a retired tobacco farmer and longtime resident of Reidsville.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include four sons, Napoleon Junior Turner IV and Joseph Woodrow Turner, both of Pelham, and Robert Lee Turner and James Melvin Turner, both of Reidsville; two daughters, Joyce Kay Gravley of Wentworth, and Vickie Diane McCraw of Reidsville; one brother, Clarence Turner; one sister, Mamie Hamilton; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two daughters, Lisa Darline Turner and Sandra Jean Fuqua.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Reidlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday at Wilkerson Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
Hollis Bigelow
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Hollis Bigelow, 81, of 287 North Ave., died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at his residence.
Born Oct. 14, 1918, in Caswell County, he was the son of Ulysses Grant Bigelow and Hattie Graves Bigelow.
He was married
to Marry Fuller Bigelow, who predeceased him. He was a member of Graves Chapel Baptist Church and was a retired long distance truck driver. He was also employed with the Department of Social Services in Yanceyville, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include three sons, Ervin Bigelow of Yanceyville, Hollis Rice Bigelow of Burlington and Kenneth Bigelow of Winston-Salem; four daughters, Clarice Poole and Judy Corbett, both of Yanceyville, Margaret Mitchell of Burlington and Janet Royal of Greensboro; 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was also predeceased by one son, Willard Bigelow.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Graves Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Walker officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Martha Gwynn
REIDSVILLE, N.C. - Martha Blackwell Gwynn, 54, of 2128 Stoney Creek School Road, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, in the Moses Cone Hospital, Greensboro.
Born Aug. 7, 1945, in Caswell County, she was the daughter of Carrie Long Blackwell, who survives, and the late Sandell R. Blackwell Sr.
She was married
to James W. Gwynn Sr., who survives. She was a member of Blackwell Baptist Church and was a former employee of Kayser Roth, Graham.
In addition to her husband of the residence and her mother of Burlington, survivors include one son, James W. Gwynn Jr. of Reidsville; two daughters, Althea G. Graves of Reidsville and Sonja G. Johnson of Burlington; four brothers, Sandell R. Blackwell Jr. and Arthur Blackwell, both of Burlington, James Blackwell and Ulysses Blackwell, both of High Point; five sisters, Rosa B. Wilkins, Gladys C. Blackwell and Dorothy B. Wilkins, all of Burlington, Elaine B. Royster of Greensboro, and Ida B. Chavis of McLeansville, and four grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Blackwell Baptist Church with the Rev. Everett Dickerson officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Sunday at Blackwell Baptist Church, and other times at the residence.

Mary Owen Hussey
ROBBINS, N.C. - Mary Owen Hussey, 85, of 5903 Jabo Hussey Rd., died Feb. 25, 2000, at Pine Lake Health Care in Carthage.
She was a Moore County native and formerly worked at Forest Heights Family Care of Robbins.
Survivors include two sons, Walter E. (Jabo) Hussey of Robbins, and the Rev. Jimmy Hussey of Danville, Va.; three daughters, Dot Smith of Robbins, Lola Kidd of Asheboro, Betty Stone of Greensboro; one brother, Melvin Owens of Seagrove; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Needhams Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Hussey and Rev. James Cockram officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Joyce-Brady Funeral Home in Bennett, and at other times at the residence of Dot Smith, 5922 Jabo Hussey Rd., Robbins, N.C. 27325.
Ada Smith
GIBSONVILLE, N.C. - Ada Shough Willard Payne Smith, 92, of 5915 Applewyrick Road, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at Annie Penn Hospital, Reidsville, N.C., after ten years of declining health.
Born April 2, 1907 in Stuart, she was the daughter of Robert Milton Shough and Jennie Foley Shough. She was first married
to Adgar Willard who predeceased her, then married
to Lee Harvey Payne who also predeceased her, and later married
Frank T. Smith, who survives.
She spent most of her life in the Danville area. Prior to her retirement, she worked for Dan River Inc.
She was a member of McLeansville Baptist Church in Gibsonville.
In addition to her husband of the residence, she is survived by two daughters, Cornelia Maggie Norton of Reidsville, Lucy Butts of Danville, Va.; three sons, Curtis Willard of Reidsville, Henry Willard of Danville, Jimmy Willard of Florida; one sister, Mary Clark of Martinsville, Va.; one brother, Warren Shuff of Stuart, Va.; 22 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; 16 step-children; and several step-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jack Lemon officiating. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Betty Foster
PELHAM, N.C. - Betty Russell Foster of 5323 Allison Road, Pelham, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, in the Brian Center Bursing Home in Eden, N.C.
Born March 7, 1912 in Caswell County, she was the daughter of Ed Russell and Mollie Gwynn Russell. She was a member of Blackwell Baptist Church.
She was married
to Otis Foster, who predeceased her. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include four daughters, Earline F. Mitchell, Marie McLaughlin, Lillie Yancey, all of Pelham, Mollie Turner of Reidsville; four sons, Otis Foster Jr. of Elon College, Donald Foster and Leslie Foster, both of Pelham, Larry Foster of Yanceyville; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Blackwell Baptist Church with the Rev. Everett Dickerson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
A viewing will take place from 2-8 p.m. Friday at Fulton Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. At other times the family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Lillie Yancey, Allison Road, Pelham.
