Gipsy Short
THOMASVILLE, N.C. - Gipsy Alice Duncan Short, 74, of 206 Boyce Sink Court, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, in the High Point Regional Hospital, N.C., after several months of declining health.
Born Jan. 20, 1926 in High Point, she was the daughter of Dewey C. Duncan and Laura Martin Duncan. She was married
on June 21, 1947 to F. William Short, who survives. She was a homemaker, a member of Green Street Baptist Church and a residence of High Point for 58 years.
In addition to her husband of the residence, she is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Horney of Thomasville and Martha Hoskins of High Point; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Green Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene A. Phillips and Dr. Elliot B. Stewart officiating. A private interment will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the service and at other times at the home of her daughter, Bonnie Horney, at 1304 Heathcliff Road.

Helen Gatewood Dameron
PELHAM, N.C. - Helen Gatewood Dameron 97, of 4676 Park Springs Road, died Thursday March 2, 2000 at Danville Regional Medical Center. She had been in declining health for several months.
She was born in Caswell County the daughter of Samuel B. and Laura Davis Gatewood. She attended Caswell County Schools, was a homemaker and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.
Surviving are one daughter Bettie D. Satterfield of Prospect Hill, one son Ira Brackin Dameron of Pelham, two sisters Lillian Nethery of Providence and Louise Lawless of Tampa, Florida, six grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Ira Dameron and son George L. Dameron.
Graveside services will be Sunday 3:30 p.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, conducted by Rev. K. Carl Singley and Dr. Tom Elliott.
The family will receive friends Saturday 7-8:30 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home, Yanceyville and at other times at the homes of her children Bettie Satterfield at 211 Cooper Cemetery Road, Prospect Hill and Ira. B. Dameron at 5643 Parks Springs Road, Pelham.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the cemetery fund of Bethel United Methodist Church, c/o Helen Jeffress 7425 Park Springs Road, Pelham, N.C. 27311.
Aldean Royal
SEMORA, N.C. - Aldean J. Royal, 47, of Hwy. 119 North, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at the UNC-Chapel Hill hospital.
Born April 28, 1952, he was the son of the late Aldeen Royal and Beatrice Stewart Royal, who survives.
He was a native of Caswell County, N.C., and attended Caswell County public schools. He was employed with CP&L.
In addition to his mother of the residence, survivors include five sisters, Daisy Elmore of Blanch, Frances Royal of Yanceyville, Katie Royal and Connie Roya, both of Semora, and Emma Dean Royal of the residence; and one brother, David Royal of the residence.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday from Macedonia A.M.E. Church, Milton with the Rev. Clyde Long officiating.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
A viewing will be held from noon-8 p.m. Saturday at Plenty Funeral Home Chapel.
Christopher Hughes
REIDSVILLE, N.C. - Christopher Lee Hughes, formerly of Danville, Va., died Sunday, April 30, 2000, at Avante Nursing Home in Roanoke, Va.

Maude Street
PELHAM, N.C. - Maude Cook Street, 77, of 906 Luna Lake Road, died Saturday, April 29, 2000, at the home of her son on 2201 Chandler Mill Road, Pelham.
Born Nov. 10, 1922, she was the daughter of Whorton Cook and Bessie Cook Cook.
She married
William Adam Street, who predeceased her in 1988. She spent most of her life in Pelham, and a number of years in the Luna Lake Road community. Prior to her retirement, she was an employee of Dan River, Inc. She was a member of the Stokesland Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Ollie Eugene Street of Pelham; two daughters, Gracie Irene Hanks and Ruby Ann Terry, both of Danville; three sisters, Annie Hardy and Sue Tilley, both of Pelham and Bessie Mae Bray of Danville; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Chapel with the Rev. Linwood R. Hairfield Sr. and the Rev. John C. Gentry officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
The family received friends from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of Gracie Irene Hanks, 211 Birchwood Road.
Grace Eller
LENOIR, N.C. - Grace Stone Eller, 79, of Ellerwood Road, Hudson, N.C., died Friday, April 28, 2000, at Lenoir Living Center.
Born Feb. 23, 1921, in Caldwell County, she was a daughter of William R. and Elzora Turnmire Stone.
She was married
to Herbert F. Eller, who survives. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Herman United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, she was survived by one son, Gary F. Eller of Danville; one brother, Bernard G. Stone of Lenoir; six sisters, Violet Joplin of Hudson, Carmen Suddreth, Nellie Winkler, Winnie Miller, Vivian Brown and Elsie D. Angley, all of Lenoir; and three grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by three brothers, Ralph Stone, Maynard Stone and William F. Stone; and one sister, Mattie Christenbury.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday from Creer-McElveen Funeral Home, with Rev. H. Kyle Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Ida Farrish
RUFFIN, N.C. - Ida Mae Graves Dixon Farrish, 70, of 10619 Park Springs Road, died Monday, May 1, 2000, at the Annie Penn Memorial Hospital, Reidsville.
Born March 18, 1930, in Caswell County, she was the daughter of Azzie Mason Graves and Mary Gwynn Graves.
She was first married
to James Dixon, who predeceased her. She was later married
to William Albert Farrish Sr., who also predeceased her. She was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Survivors include five sons, Dennis Morris Farrish and Azzie Mason Farrish, both of Ruffin, Bobby Joe Farrish of Pelham, Walter Douglas Farrish of Graham and John Edward Farrish of Eden; eight daughters, Betty Carolyn Washington of White Plains, N.Y., Harrell Dixon, Brenda Kaye Farrish Hairston, Wanda Kaye Farrish, and Mary Louise Farrish, all of Ruffin, Patricia Diane Dixon Gwynn of Pelham, Debra Ann Farrish Thornton of Yanceyville and Lucy Marie Farrish of Fort Washington, Md.; two brothers, Charles Graves and James Franklin Graves, both of Pelham; one sister, Lettie Louise Matthew of Fort Washington, Md.; one step son, William Albert Farrish of Jackson, S.C.; one step brother, Joe Blackwell of Eden; one step sister, Bettie Jean Russell of Yanceyville; 26 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was predeceased by one daughter, Mary Jane Dixon; two brothers, Morris Graves and John Graves; one sister, Delois Naomi Jones, and one step sister, Madline Leath.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Mineral Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Freddie Seabrook officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
A viewing will be held from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Fulton Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Dorothy Galloway Jones
RALEIGH, N.C. - Dorothy Galloway Jones, 83, died April 30, 2000 at Sunrise Assisted Living, Raleigh. Mrs. Jones was born on June 17, 1916 in Greenville, S.C., the daughter of the late Michael A. Galloway and Nancy Jane Agnew. Mrs. Jones was predeced in death by her husband, J. Garland Jones in 1988.
She is survived by one brother, Clyde Galloway & wife of Richmond, Va.; one sister, Elizabeth Simpson of Charlotte. Also surviving are her nieces, Harriet B. Moore, Raleigh, Laura J. Brann, Cary, Betsy Beegle, Columbus, Ohio, Nancy Berkham, Tampa, Fla., Delores Benston, Columbia, S.C., Jane Benjamin and Susan Cato, Greenville, S.C., and Joyce Summerour, Charlotte, and nephews, Billy Jones, Raleigh and Brantley Jones, Danville, Va.
The family will receive friends 10:00-11:00, Thursday morning prior to the 11:00 services at Brown Wynne, St. Mary's Street. Grave side rites will be at Highland Burial Park in Danville, Va., Thursday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Mrs. Jones was a member of The First Presbyterian Church, Raleigh.

Stella Smith
RALEIGH, N.C. - Stella Collins Smith, 65, of 10921 Stage Drive died Monday, May 1, 2000, at Rex Health Care.
Born Sept. 12, 1934, in the Dry Fork community of Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Clint Washington Collins and Mabel Stowe Collins.
She had lived in Raleigh for the past 40 years after spending her earlier years in Danville, Va. She was a member of the former Sledd Memorial United Methodist Church and was an inspector for I.T.T. in Raleigh.
Survivors include five sisters, Clara Ryan, Angeline Emmerson, Atner Mae Jefferson, Ruby Stratton, and Videl Pizzino, all of Danville, Va.
She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Washington Collins.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Brian Edwards officiating. Interment will follow at the Oakland United Methodist Church Cemetery, Pittsylvania County, Va.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Videl Pizzino, 202 Motley Ave.
Algie Scott
PROVIDENCE, N.C. - Mrs. Algie Clara Cooper Scott, age 84, of 419 Scott Road, Providence, N.C. died Wednesday afternoon, May 3, 2000 at her residence.
She was born on January 8, 1916 in Franklin County, Virginia a daughter of the late Guy Cooper and Sallie Philpott Cooper.
On December 21, 1936, she married
Irvin Vincent Scott who predeceased her on February 7, 1965.
Mrs. Scott was retired from Dan River, Inc. where she worked in the No. 2 Weave Room for 26 years. She made her home in Providence most of her life and enjoyed being a homemaker and a seamstress. She was an active member of the Providence Baptist Church, the Senior Adult Ministry, and the Dan River Retired Club, where she enjoyed many traveling opportunities, until her decline in health.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Odell Cooper Long.
She is survived by a son, John Cooper Scott and his wife Sarah of Providence; a granddaughter, Sherri Scott Slade and her husband, David of Providence; two great-grandsons, John David Slade and Scott Slade both of Providence; a sister, Lucy Cooper Abbott of Fredericksburg, Va.; two brothers, Daniel H. Cooper of Danville and Warren Cooper of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 6, 2000, at 11:00 a.m. from Townes Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Ken Clark and the Rev. Jay Kennett. Interment will be in the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home Friday night from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and at other times will be at the residence, 419 Scott Road, Providence, N.C. Lester Glenn
MILTON, N.C. - Lester Percy Glenn, of 2212 Yarborough Mill Road, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at the Person County Hospital, Roxboro, N.C.
Born May 2, 1939 in Caswell County, he was a son of Ollie Williamson and Annie Glenn, and a foster son of Joe Jeffries and Alice Hicks Jeffries.
He was a member of Burton Chapel Baptist Church and a retired carpenter with E.M. Wilkerson Construction.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Gunn Glenn of the residence; one son, Larry Tucker of Roxboro; 10 brothers, Linberg Williamson, Melvin Williamson, Calvin Williamson and Eddie Williamson, all of Danville; Jeremiah Jeffries of Milton, Joseph Willard Jeffries of Washington, Robert Jeffries of Baltimore, Earl Williamson of Atlanta, James Glenn of New York City and Leon Glenn of Columbus, Ohio; 13 sisters, Annie Lois Bullard of Long Island, N.Y., Louise Williamson, Lucy Kates, Irene Blackwell, Wanda Turner, Bessie Womack, Glennie Glenn and Susie Johnson, all of Danville, Va., Mary McCain and Joyce Wilson, both of Milton, Elsie Jay of Baltimore, Gerald Eden of New Jersey, Erie Graves of Adelphia, Md.; and three grandchildren.
