Billy Kendrick
REIDSVILLE, N.C. - Billy Davis Kendrick, 73, of Carolina House, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at N.C. Baptist Hospital.
Born in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Claude Swanson Kendrick and Maude Nora Amos Kendrick.
He was a farmer and worked with Bush Brothers Chrome Plating Company. He was a member of New Heights Baptist Church and a surgical technician in the U.S. Army. He was a veteran of World War II.
He was predeceased by one brother, Elton Kendrick; and five sisters, Estelle Kendrick, Nora Kendrick, Iris Good, Artness Moore and Peggy Haley.
Survivors include one son, Wayne Kendrick of Reidsville; two daughters, Betty Kendrick Nash of Summerfield, and Barbara Kendrick Meeks of Reidsville; seven stepchildren, Elmer Mattox of California, Md., Harry Mattox of Middleburg, Fla., Virginia Austin Blaine of Kingsport, Tenn., Naomi Mattox Austin of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Gloria Mattox Stewart of Livingston, Tenn., Joanne Mattox Trent of Reidsville and Glenda Mattox Helms of Wagram; two brothers, Earl Kendrick of Whitmell, Va., and Bonner Kendrick of Petersburg; three sisters, Norma Kendrick Cousins of Dry Fork, Omie Kendrick Herndon of Petersburg and Nonie Kendrick Jennings of High Point; 25 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Kendrick Family Cemetery in Callands.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday at Wilkerson Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence of Barbara Meeks, 3281 Vance St.
Michael Peatross
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Sgt. Michael Jerome Peatross, 25, of 901 Applewood Lane, died Sunday, April 30, 2000.
Born Oct. 8, 1974 in Eden, he was the son of Larry Peatross and Mildred Price Peatross. He was a member of the U.S. Army for eight years, stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C.
In addition to his mother of Danville, he is survived by one sister, Linda Peatross of Eden; two brothers, Larry Peatross Jr. and Steven Peatross, both of Eden; and his paternal grandmother, Helen Peatross of Cascade, Va.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday from Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. John W. Tinsley officiating. Interment with full military rites will follow in the Wilson-Peatross Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Helen Peatross, 2333 Cascade Road.

May Phillips
SEMORA, N.C. - May Talbott Phillips, 77, of 186 Murphy Road died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at the Brian Center, Yanceyville, after a period of declining health.
Born in Pittsylvania County, Va., she was the daughter of Charlie B. and Rebecca Saunders Phillips.
She was married
to Willie Carr Phillips, who predeceased her May 12, 1990. She was of the Methodist faith and a housewife. Survivors include one daughter, Rebecca Frances Barker, and one son, Michael Phillips, both of Semora.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Connally United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ross O'Neil, pastor, officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Harrelson Funeral Home, Yanceyville.
Elsie Cole
DURHAM, N.C. - Elsie Reid Cole, 79, of 910 Virgie St., died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at Carver Living Center.
She was born in Danville, the daughter of William N. and Mattie Lester Reid.
She lived in Roanoke, Va., before moving to Durham. She was married
to Robert S. Cole, who predeceased her.
Survivors include one son, Dexter R. Cole of Tampa, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Maplewood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Clements Funeral Home.
James Winstead
SEMORA, N.C. - James Raymond Winstead, 70, died May 3, 2000, after a short illness.
He was born Nov. 15, 1929, the son of Roosevelt Winstead and Annie Drumwright.
Survivors include his wife, Daisy A. Stewart; three children, Gwendolyn, Raymond and Cedric; four brothers, Harry Winstead, Theodore Winstead, Billy Winstead and Junious Winstead, all of Roxboro.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Burial will be in the cemetery.
There will be a viewing 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at Plenty Funeral Home Chapel.
Carl Collins
MADISON, N.C. - Carl Copeland Collins, Sr., 78, of 211 Smothers Rd., died Monday, May 8, 2000, at his residence after a lengthy illness.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 11, 2000 at Danville Memorial Gardens in Danville, Va. with military honors by the American Legion Post 1097 Honor Guard.
Mr. Collins was a native of Pittsylvania County, Va., was a member of the Piney Forest Methodist Church in Danville, Va., was a retired farmer and member of the VFW in Yanceyville and American Legion in Danville, and was a WWII Army veteran.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Pauline Fallen Collins of the home; children, Carl C. Collins, Jr. and Susan Knight of Lawrenceville, Ga., Thomas H. Collins of Mayodan, T. Michael Collins of Florence, S.C., Paula Shell of Buchanan, W.Va., and Chris David Collins of Danville, Va.; sisters, Wilma Stultz of Orlando, Fla., Rachel Merritt of Dry Fork, Va., and Ann Haskins of Callands, Va.; 9 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m., Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at Ray Funeral Home in Madison and other times at his home.

Troy Webster
PELHAM, N.C. - Troy Dodson Webster, 79, of 2613 Chandler Mill Road, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at V.A. Medical Center, Durham, N.C., after a period of declining health.
Born in Caswell County, he was a son of Troy S. and Annie Sue Holt Webster.
He lived most of his life in Caswell County and Danville. He was a master carpenter and cabinet maker, a member of Beulah Baptist Church and of American Legion Post 1097 of Danville. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Infantry and Quartermaster Corps from May 1940 through November 1945.
His unit, "Wolverines", were in the Normandy Invasion on D-Day and through V-E Day with General Patton's Third Army. He and his unit received numerous awards and citations.
Survivors include four brothers, Thomas L. Webster, Herbert W. Webster, Leonard F. Webster and Henry N. Webster, all of Providence; and four sisters, Dorothy Webster Butts of Purley, N.C., Evelyn Webster Worley of Pelham, Bera Webster Huff of Danville and Carol Webster Lewis of Providence.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday from Beulah Baptist Church, with Rev. Doug Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, with military rites given by American Legion Post 1097.
The family will receive friends before and after the graveside service.

Susie Brown
RUFFIN, N.C. - Susie Rodriguez Brown, 75, of 231 Old U.S. Hwy. 29 died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at her residence.
Born in Rio Grande City, Texas, she was the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. J.L. Rodriguez.
She was married
to Harden C. Brown, who predeceased her. She retired from Dan River Mills after 43 years of service. She was a member of Oregon Hill Extension Club, Dan River Retirees Club and Oregon Hill Community Center for Retirees. She was a member of Ruffin United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Trent and Terry B. Bryan, both of Reidsville; two sons, Harden C. Brown Jr. and Gary "Peanut" M. Brown, both of Ruffin; two sisters, Aurora Garcia of Mission, Texas, and Maime Francis of Bradenton, Fla.; one brother, Bobbie Rodriguez of Rio Grande City, Texas; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Ruffin United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Ruffin Cemetery.

MILTON, N.C. - Harry Lee Hughes, 59, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 5, 1940, in Caswell County, he was the son of Charlie and Laura Hughes. He attended the public schools of Caswell County and attended Oak Level A.M.E. Church.
Survivors include four sisters, Catherine Hughes of Newburg, N.Y., Madlyn Swann of Kingston, N.Y., Thelma Hughes of Winston-Salem and Ethel Hughes of Milton; three brothers, Willie Cleo Hughes of Milton, Lawrence Hughes of Winston-Salem, and Jerry Hughes of Ringgold, Va.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Oak Level A.M.E. Church with the Rev. Daisy Long officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A viewing will be held from noon-8 p.m. Saturday at Plenty Funeral Home, Semora.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his sister, 961 Snatchburg Road, Milton.
Beverly Tuck
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Mrs. Beverly J. Tuck 61 of Greensboro died Saturday, May 13, 2000 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2000 at Forbis & Dick Guilford Chapel. Burial will follow in New Garden Cemetery.
Mrs. Tuck was a member of Family Worship Center and a homemaker.
She is survived by her children; Sheila Farah of Summerfield, Bettie Abernathy of Pleasant Garden, Bobby Ray Tuck, Jr. of Laurel, Maryland, Frank Keith Tuck of Fairfield, California, David Victor Tuck and Michael L. Tuck both of Greensboro; sister, Jacquelyn D. Robinson of Portland, Oregon; brother, Eugene Thomas Hood of Phillipsburg, Montana and 6 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Monday, May 15, 2000.
