Myrtle Cleo Barton

KING, N.C. — Myrtle Cleo “Blanch” Barton, 76, of Village Care of King, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 12, 1924, in Madison, Ga., she was the daughter of Columbus Jordan and Mary Slaughter Jordan.
She married icon Edgar Barton, who predeceased her on Jan. 12, 1988. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include five sons, Edgar Wayne Barton of Danville, Va., Ronald Barton of Rural Hall, Raymond Barton of Kernersville, Stanley Barton of Winston-Salem, and Kenneth Barton of Martinsville; one daughter, Vickie Farley of Mount Airy; 18 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Rev. David Abernathy officiating.
Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memory Garden.
The family received friends Thursday, from 7-8:30 p.m. at Townes Funeral Home.

Sheila Plenty

SEMORA, N.C. — Sheila Plenty, 48, of 174 Barker Road died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at Person Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 11, 1951, she was the daughter of Clyde Hughes and Nancy Hughes, who survives.
She married icon Larry Plenty, who survives. She was a 1969 graduate of Caswell County Training School and alumni of Winston-Salem State University.
She taught in the Pittsylvania County School System for 26 years.
In addition to her husband of the residence and mother of Milton, survivors include one daughter, LaKeisha Plenty of the residence.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Aruther Crews officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday, from 12-8 p.m. at Plenty Funeral Home.

Elizabeth Rudd

PROSPECT HILL, N.C. — Elizabeth Day Rudd, 74, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at the Brian Center, Yanceyville, after a period of declining health.
Born Sept. 1, 1925, in Caswell County, she was a daughter of George Frank and Esther Swanson Day.
She was a member of Lea Bethel Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include one step daughter, Sarah Zimmerman of Elon College; three step sons, James Rudd of Durham, Louie Rudd of Cayce, S.C., and Billy Rudd of Prospect Hill; two sisters, Mary Harris of Providence and Frankie Yarbrough of Yanceyville, and one brother, Edmund Day of Burlington.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lea Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Sartin officiating.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, from 7-8:30 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home.

Joseph “Pat” Williamson

BLANCH, N.C. — Joseph Weldon “Pat” Williamson 83, of 347 Pat Williamson Road died Wednesday Jan. 19, 2000 at his residence. He had been in declining health for several months.
He was born in Halifax County, Virginia the son of Frank and Carrie Mise Williamson. He worked for many years for the ABC board as a salesman and was a farmer. He was a member of Griers Presbyterian Church and of the Leasburg Hunting Club.
Survivors include his wife Bernice Daniel Williamson of the home, two daughters Sandra W. Griffin of Reidsville and Brenda W. Crews of Blanch, two sons Darrell Williamson of Danville and Harold Williamson of Yanceyville, ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Saturday 2 p.m. at Griers Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday 7-8:30 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home, Yanceyville (formerly Hooper Funeral Home) and at other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Griers Presbyterian Church c/o Charles Smith 143 Frank Smith Road, Leasburg, N.C. 27291.
Harrelson Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Charlie Pulliam

YANCEYVILLE, N.C. —Charlie Wilson Pulliam, 62, of 1566 Mary Jane Bigelow Road, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at Chapel Hill Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Born May 19, 1937, in Caswell County, N.C., he was the son of Charlie Pulliam and Annie Richmond Pulliam.
He was a member of Allen’s Chapel Baptist Church and a retired textile worker.
Survivors include three brothers, Rev. James Pulliam and David Pulliam, both of Burlington, and Eddie Pulliam of Mebane; three sisters Martha Singertary of Burlington, Geneva Bigelow of Yanceyville and Bessie Woods of Greensboro.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Fulton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Brown officiating. Burial will be in Allen’s Chapel Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his sister Geneva Bigelow, 1564 Mary Jane Bigelow Road, Yanceyville.
Fulton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Nannie Walkers Adams

REIDSVILLE, N.C. — Nannie Walkers Adams, 85, of Britthaven Nursing Center, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at the nursing home.
She married icon Richard Adams of Madison, who survives. She was a native of Roxboro and was a homemaker.
In addition to her husband, survivors include four daughters, Mary Lou Smith and Carrie Barbee, both of Gibsonville, and Esther Landrum and Margie Roark, both of Danville, Va.; three sons, William Hawkins, Richard Lee Adams Rice, and Louis W. Adams, all of Reidsville; one sister, Isabell Rice of Reidsville; 22 grandchildren, and 34 great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one daughter, Margaret Horner; one son, John J. “Buck” Adams; four sisters, and one brother.
A funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Greenview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday at Wilkerson Funeral Home, from 6-8 p.m., and other times at Louis’ home, 1113 Wolf Island Road.

Maddie Groff

REIDSVILLE, N.C. — Maddie Ercill Groff, formerly of 1755 S. Scales St., 91, died Thursday, January 27, 2000, at Brian Center of Eden.
Mrs. Groff was born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, to the late Robert L. Groff and Aribella Burnett Groff. She retired from Burlington Industries, and was a member of Baptist Temple where she worked with the children of the church for many years.
Survivors include three brothers, Robert “Buck” Groff and his Wife, Virginia; the Reverend John J. Groff and his Wife, Jane; Malcolm “Pete” Groff and his Wife, Jane; two sisters, Annie Gray and Ola Dalton, all of Reidsville; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Hiawatha Groff, Henry Groff and a sister, Lindsey Groff.
A graveside service will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Reidlawn Cemetery, weather permitting.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Baptist Temple Church, Building Fund, P.O. Box 805, Reidsville, N.C. 27320-0805.

Lindsey Neighbors

RUFFIN, N.C. — Lindsey Oscar Neighbors, 86, of 10312 U.S. 158 West died, Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at Veterans Medical Center in Durham. He had been in declining health for several months.
Born Feb. 3, 1913, in Caswell County, he was the son of Joseph Oscar and Annie Harrelson Neighbors.
He married icon Louise Strader Neighbors, who predeceased him.
He attended Caswell County Schools and was a salesman for Caswell County A.B.C. Board. He was injured in the United States Army during combat action in the South Pacific in World War II. He was also a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by one sister, Edith N. Chandler; and two brothers, Russell and James Neighbors.
Survivors include one son, James L. “Jimmy” Neighbors of Providence; five sisters, Katherine Manning and Mary Wiley, both of Las Vegas, Nev., Ruby Hodges of Yanceyville, Nettie Decker of Washington state and Marion Golden of Boston; one brother, Edward Neighbors of Las Vegas; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cleveland Duke, K. Carl Singley and Michael Kent officiating. Interment will be in church cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post No. 325 of Danville.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Harrelson Funeral Home, Yanceyville (formerly Hooper Funeral Home) and at other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, 730 Hermitage Road, P.O. Box 2122, Burlington, N.C. 27216.
Harrelson Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Frank Pruitt

PELHAM, N.C. — Frank Linsey Pruitt, 76, of 121 McKinney Road, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at his residence.
He was a native of Person County, Va. He served as a veteran during World War II with the Meryls Miraders. He was retired from Smith Construction Company.
Survivors include two sons, Frank Lester Pruitt of Stoneville, N.C. and Luther James Pruitt of Ruffin, N.C.; one daughter, Alice Faye Wyatt of Spencer, N.C.; one brother, Curtis Pruitt of Danville; two sisters, Stella Pryon and Mae Williams, both of Danville; 14 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one son, Ed Pruitt; one sister, Lucy Rice; and two brothers, Early Pruitt and Jesse Pruitt.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel, with interment in the Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of Myrtle Myers, 3129 Chandler Mill Road.

Edgar Edwards

RUFFIN, N.C. — Edgar Worth Edwards, 80, of 386 Happy Home School Road, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, N.C.
Born Jan. 14, 1920, in Independence, he was a son of George D. Edwards and Flora Snow Edwards.
He was married icon to Rachel Dix Edwards, who predeceased him. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in WWII. He spent most of his life in Ruffin where he was a farmer and also worked for Crescent Milling Company in Reidsville. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include four daughters, Kay DeLancey, Sue Strader, and Lynn Wilson all of Ruffin, and Stella Pratt of Eden; four sons, Walter Edwards of Chatham, Va., Darnell Edwards and Garnette Edwards both of Ruffin, and Charles Edwards of Reidsville; two sisters, Nancy Smothers and Laurie Barker both of Sparta; three brothers, Floyd Edwards of Sparta, Jack Edwards of Madison, and Joe Edwards of Morganton, and 21 grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by one sister, Oliva Delp, and three brothers, Van Edwards, Tim Edwards, and Glenn Edwards.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Rick Binderup officiating. Interment will follow at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery in Rockingham County.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home, and other times at the residence of his daughter, Sue Strader, 1473 Guerrant Springs Road, Ruffin.

John Welch

ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — John Louis Welch, 87, of 925 Wilson St., died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.
Born in Alamance County, he was a son of Jeff Welch and Ethel Caudle Welch.
He was married icon to Lula Inscoe Welch. He was a retired tax accountant and a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Marine Corp, and saw action in Saipan and Iwo Jima. He was a member of AmVets Post 320 and the VFW. He was a member of Rosemary United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one son, Steve M. Welch of Danville, Va.; two brothers, R. Allan Welch of Roanoke Rapids and J. Reece Welch of Weldon; three sisters, Evelyn W. Welsh of Portsmouth, Va., Edythe W. Lee of Woodland, and Elaine W. Wilbourne of Baltimore; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one son, John L. Welch Jr.; a daughter, Greta W. Welch; a brother, Fred Welch, and a sister, Pauline W. Whitehead.
A funeral will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Rosemary United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thomas Sweeley officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Wrenn Funeral Home.
