Sampson Lovelace

PELHAM, N.C. — Sampson Clipper Lovelace, 97, of 511 Lovelace Road, died Saturday afternoon, Feb. 12, 2000 at Danville Regional Medical Center after one year of declining health.
He was born in Danville October 2, 1902, a son of the late James Madison Lovelace and Mary Grooms Lovelace. He was married icon to Nettie Blanche Travis Lovelace, who survives.
He was a lifetime farmer who enjoyed hunting, and was a member of Riveroak Church of God.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, James Sampson Lovelace and Marvin Wilson Lovelace, both of Pelham, 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Wes Lovelace and Jack Lovelace, and three sisters, Fannie Emerson, Berta Wilkerson and Lilly Pruitt.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Louis F. Emerson and the Rev. Hassell Priddy.
Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of his son, James Lovelace, at 473 Lovelace Road, Pelham.

Victoria Bush

YANCEYVILLE, N.C. — Victoria Webster Bush, 84, of 2362 U.S. Highway 158 East, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at her residence.
Born in Caswell County, she was the daughter of Jim and Sally Cobb Webster.
She was educated in Caswell County Schools and was retired from Dan River Inc., after 30 years of service.
She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church.
She was married icon to James P. Bush, who predeceased her. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, John E. Webster and James H. Webster.
Survivors include two daughters, Maxine Foster of Yanceyville and Christine Williams of Hillsborough; one son, Webster Bush of Yanceyville; two sisters, Eva S. Richmond and Mallie Williamson, both of Leasburg; one brother, William Webster of Haw River; five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and two step-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Beulah Baptist Church with the Rev. Clyde Everette, the Rev. Claude Harrelson and the Rev. Doug Jones officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Harrelson Funeral home and at other times at the residence.

B.J. Fancher

FRANKLINVILLE, N.C. — William Joseph “B.J.” Fancher, 21, of 387 Park St., died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, in Vernon Hill.
Born July 12, 1978, in Hammond, Ind., he was a son of Judy Evans Smith of Merrillville, Ind., and Joe Fancher of Chesterton, Ind., who survive.
He was employed by B & L Wholesale.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by three brothers, Steven Fancher and Matthew Fancher, both of Chesterton, Ind., and Ronnie Smith Jr. of Merrillville, Ind.; one sister, Stephanie Fancher of Chesterton, Ind.; a paternal grandmother, Rebecca Fancher of Franklinville, and a paternal grandfather, William Fancher of Gary, Ind.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Colbert-Moran Chapel with the Rev. Clyde Crowder officiating. Interment will follow in the Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.

Mabel Apple

REIDSVILLE, N.C. — Mabel Tramel Apple, 77, of 842 U.S. 158 East, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at her residence.
Born in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of James Lester Tramel and Willie Anderson Tramel.
She was married icon to John M. Apple who survives. She retired from Chase Bag after many years and was a member of East Side Missionary Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one son, Dwayne Apple; one daughter, Jennifer Apple Griffin, all of Reidsville; one brother, James L. Tramel Jr. of Blackstone; three sisters, Myrtle Wells of Richmond, Eva Mae Clark of Danville, and Lillian Apple of Reidsville, and two grandchildren of Reidsville.
She was predeceased by one brother, John Anderson Tramel.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at East Side Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Apple Family Cemetery on Ashland Road.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Perry Wilson

BURLINGTON, N.C. — Perry Lee Wilson, 52, of Burlington, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, in Chicago.
Born Jan. 21, 1948, in Halifax County, he was a son of Floyd W. Wilson Jr. and Gertude Wilson, who survives.
He was married icon to Lizabeth Keaton Wilson, who survives. He retired on disability from GKN-Burlington and was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of Burlington and his mother of South Boston, Va., survivors include one son, Duane Wilson; one brother, Michael Wilson of South Boston, Va., and two sisters, Deborah Wilson of Atlanta and Linda Wilson of Richmond, Va.
A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home. A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Wilson Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday at Lowe Funeral Home.
Brooks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ragain Gyder

ROXBORO, N.C. — Ragain Gyder, 77, of 11969 Boston Road died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at Durham V.A. Hospital.
Born Aug. 3, 1922, in Lenoir City, Tenn., he was a son of John Gyder and Martha Gyder.
He was married icon to Arley B. Gyder. He was a member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Legion. Survivors include one cousin, Paul Gaston of Arizona, three nieces, Grace Elliot of Scottsburg, Janice Alspaugh and Norma Newbill, both of Halifax, and one nephew, Larry White of North Royalton, Ohio.
A graveside funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oakland Cemetery with Fr. Mathias Newell officiating. Powell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ted Alan Powell

PROVIDENCE, N.C. — Ted Alan Powell, 24, of 105 Park Springs Road, Providence, NC, died at his residence Sunday, January 30, 2000.
He was born in Danville VA, and the son of J.C. Powell and the late Jane Smith Powell, he was a member of Providence Baptist Church and was employed by Lowe’s as a zone manager.
Survivors other than his father include his stepmother, Shirley Manning Powell; two brothers, Scott Powell of Monroe, NC, and Kenneth Wayne Powell Sr. of Danville, VA; a sister-in-law, Lisa Powell of Danville; a nephew, Kenneth Wayne Powell Jr. of Danville; a stepbrother, Andrew Dillon of Broswell, VA; his fiance, Amy Keesee of Chatham, VA; his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Bill Powell of Providence, NC, Mr. & Mrs. Jesse Smith of Providence, NC, and a number of uncles and aunts.
Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church by the Rev. Kenneth Clark, Rev. Darrell Campbell, and Rev. Steve Martin with interment in church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 Tuesday night at Providence Baptist Church and following the service on Wednesday.

Carolyn Mitchell

YANCEYVILLE, N.C. — Carolyn Mitchell, of Suncrest Apt. 207 died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 9, 1922 in Chatham County, she was a daughter of Paul Mitchell and Hattie Mason Mitchell.
She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and a self-employed domestic worker.
Survivors include one daughter, Alease Thompson of Mebane; three sisters, Mazella Watkins of Durham, Alvina Cousins of Hillsborough, and Josephine Hamlett of Oxford, and eight grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one brother, Tezell Mitchell, and three sisters, Hattie Mae, Lillie Mae, and Corine.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Fulton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Norman Armstead officiating. Burail will be in the Burton Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
Fulton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Clellie Fitch

RALEIGH, N.C. — Clellie Yates Fitch, 82, of 5707 Grassmere Court, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at her residence after several years of declining health.
Born Feb. 14, 1917, in Wake County, she was the daughter of J. Van Wilson and Margie Council Yates.
She was married icon to Thomas Tally Fitch, who survives. She was a member of Old Lee Bethel Baptist Church in Prospect Hill and a homemaker.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Marilyn F. Steele of Raleigh; three sons, Ronnie Fitch of Look Out Mountain, Ga., Doc Fitch of Burlington, and Stevie Fitch of Roxboro; two sisters, Sadie Jones of Apex, and Juanita Harman of Wilmington, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at Bethel United Church of Christ in Anderson, with the Rev. Paul Sternette officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Margaret Hazelwood

PELHAM, N.C. — Margaret Hankins Hazelwood, 75, of 440 Dibrell Road, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at her residence after several years of declining health.
Born June 11, 1924, in Henry County, she was a daughter of Will Brown Hankins and Mary Garret Hankins.
She was married icon to Percy B. Hazelwood, who predeceased her on Nov. 3, 1989. She lived her life in Rockingham County where she was a member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church. She retired from Dan River Inc. after 40 years of service.Survivors include one sister, Lois H. Inman of Danville.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Swicegood Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert E. Fritts officiating. Interment will follow at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery in Rockingham County. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
Swicegood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

James Graves

BLANCH, N.C. — James Arthur Graves, of 441 Twin Chimney Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, in the Veteran’s Administration Hospital, Durham.
Born Nov. 1, 1931, in Caswell County, he was the son of the late John Wesley Graves and Mary Erma Graves Miles, who survives.
He married icon Mary Jeffers Graves, who survives.
He was a member of Blackwell Baptist Church and was a cabinet maker instructor with Boise Cascade before becoming disabled.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean War.
In addition to his wife of the residence and mother of Burlington, survivors include two sons, Donald Wayne Graves of Durham and James A. Graves of Blanch; four daughters, Deborah Eliane Graves of Blanch, Shirley K. Graves Long and Sandra Jean Graves, both of Yanceyville, and Connie Sue Graves of South Boston, Va.; one brother, David Graves of Yanceyville; five sisters Margeret Garland of Milton, Ida Kimber and Mary Helen Murray, both of Yanceyville, Mattie Sue Love of Danville, Va., and Katie Holman of Harrisburg, Pa.; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Blackwell Baptist Church with the Rev. Everett Dickerson and the Rev. Tyrone Thornton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Saturday at Fulton Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
Fulton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
