Richetta Clark
REIDSVILLE, N.C. — Richetta Vincent Clark, of 1321 McGehee St., died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at Annie Penn Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Danville, Va., and was of the Baptist faith.
She was a school teacher in the Rockingham County Public School System for 35 years prior to her retirement.
Survivors include two sons Dr. Marvin V. Clark of Raleigh and Richard D. Clark of Washington, D.C.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at McLaurin Memorial Chapel in Reidsville. Burial will be in Greenview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 12:30-1 p.m. Tuesday at McLaurin Funeral Home, Reidsville.
Opal “Buck” Harris
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Mr. Opal “Buck” Ray Harris, 65, of Greensboro, died Saturday, January 15, 2000, at Moses Cone Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 Wednesday, January 19, 2000, at Hanes Lineberry Vanstory Chapel. Burial will follow at Westminster Gardens.
Mr. Harris was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a wonderful and loving family man, with a heart of gold. He loved his community and helping others. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 4 brothers.
Surviving are his special companion of 26 years, Carol Pegram of the home; daughter, Susan Hardy; son, Charles Michael Harris, both of Danville, VA; stepchildren, Brian Barber of Danville, Michael Barber of PA, Keith Pegram and Jerry Wayne Pegram of Greensboro; sisters, Eleanor Douglas of FL., Betty Dinkle of SC, Anne Witcher of VA, Barbara Moorefield of VA; brother Windol Harris of FL; and 8 grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405.
The family will receive friends 7-9:00 Tuesday, January 18, 2000, at the funeral home.
Ora Faulkner
MILTON, N.C. — Ora Mae Lipscomb Faulkner, 79, of 9259 NC Hwy 62N, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 19, 1920, in Caswell County, she was the daughter of Moses Lipscomb and Nelly Barnett Lipscomb. She married
Willie Faulkner, who predeceased her.
She was a native of and attended public schools in Caswell County. She was a member of the River Zion Baptist Church, Blanch, N.C.
Survivors include one son, Frank Edward Faulkner of Asheboro, N.C.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at River Zion Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tyrone Thorton officiating.
A viewing will be noon-8 p.m. Tuesday at Plenty Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the residence.
Jeffrey Rudd
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. — Jeffrey Lee Rudd, 32, of 7727 NC Hwy 86S, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000 in Orange County.
Born in Alamance County, he was the son of Randy Nicks Rudd and Judy Willis Rudd, who survive.
He was employed by Staff Mark Inc., and was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, survivors include one brother, Rodney Nicks Rudd of Yanceyville; a grandmother, Thensa Willis of Mebane, and a grandfather, Roxie Rudd of Prospect Hill.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Chip Selew officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Grace Baptist Church Monday from 7-8:30 p.m., and at other times at the residence.

Joan Scearce
PELHAM, N.C. — Joan Dabbs Scearce, 55, formerly of 1209 Holland Road, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at the residence of her son in the Laurel Grove community of Pittsylvania County, Va., after 10 years of declining health.
Born Oct. 9, 1944, in Rockingham County, she was the daughter of the late James L. Dabbs and Mary Pruitt Dabbs, who survives.
She was predeceased by a sister, Kathy Dabbs.
She had spent most of her life in Pelham and for the past four months had resided with her son in Laurel Grove.
She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her mother of Eden, survivors include two sons, Thomas Lee Scearce Jr. of Laurel Grove and Timothy James Scearce of Danville; four brothers, Daryl Dabbs of Knoxville, Tenn., Kenneth Dabbs of Eden, Charles Dabbs of King and Jesse Dabbs of Ridgeway, Va.; four sisters, Donna Hall of Martinsville, Va., Susan Bingman of Eden, Regina Dabbs and Brenda Coleman, both of Danville and three granddchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gilmore Hundley officiating. Burial will follow at the Dan River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Rockingham County.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of her son, Thomas L. Scearce Jr. at 901 Laurel Grove Road in the Laurel Grove community.
Otis Lewis
DURHAM, N.C. — Otis Lee Lewis, 73, of 2125 Sunset Ave., died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, at Rose Manor Health Care Center following a decline in health.
Born in Danville, Va., he was the son of Charles Edward and Osie Newby Lewis.
He married
Helen Jordan Lewis, who survives.
He was a retired superintendent with Par Construction Co. He was a member of Staley Memorial Baptist Church in Burlington, the Eno Masonic Lodge No. 210 and the Sudan Shrine Temple. He was a veteran of the United States Army served during World War II.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter, Patricia C. Spoon of Graham; two sons, Charles Lewis of Durham and Wayne Lewis of Oxford; two sisters, Louise Talbott and Pricie Whitt, both of Danville, Va.; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Clements Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Berryman and the Rev. Dr. Roger Hahn officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Lillian Gribble
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. — Lillian Bradner Gribble, 85, of Torrence, Calif., formerly of Yanceyville, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2000, at the residence of her daughter, Rebecca Jacobsen in Ramona, Calif.
Born June 21, 1914, in Caswell County, she was the daughter of Lance Bradner and Eunice Smith Bradner.
She married
Hunter Gribble, who predeceased her July 30, 1982.
She was a homemaker and former member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter Rebecca Jacobsen of Ramona, Calif.; one son Howard L. Gribble of Torrence, Calif.; one sister Mabel B. Pleasant of Yanceyville; three brothers Dorsey Bradner of Yanceyville, Lance Bradner Jr. of Chester, Va. and John Bradner of Greenville, S.C.; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Claude Harrelson officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.

David Evanda Crowder
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — David Evanda Crowder, Sr. 79, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 9, 2000. He was a devoted husband, and loving father, grandfather and brother. He was a stalwart Christian who faithfully served the Lord at Charlotte’s First Baptist Church.
Funeral Service will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church following a committal service at Sharon Memorial Park at 10:00 a.m. Dr. Charles Page and Reverend Joe Burnette will officiate. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at Hankins and Whittington — Dilworth Chapel and following the service on Tuesday in the Church parlor. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Deacons of First Baptist and the Fidelis Sunday School Class.
Mr. Crowder was born in Wake Forest, NC in 1920, the son of the late David Charles Crowder and Mary Timberlake Crowder. He returned to Charlotte in 1987 after many years of residence in Nashville, TN. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1945. He was a deacon of First Baptist Church and a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class. Mr. Crowder retired as an Executive Vice President of Jamison Furniture and Bedding of Nashville, TN.
Mr. Crowder was predeceased by his son David E. Crowder Jr., in 1998. He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Fern Hall Crowder, a daughter, Margie Crowder Crosby and her husband, Donald of Charlotte, daughter-in-law, Linda David Crowder of Charlotte; grandchildren, Michele April Crosby, David Edward Crosby, Jason David Crowder, Whitney Claire Crowder, and Ryan Edward Crowder; sisters Daphine C. Fowlkes of Charlotte, Hallie W. Crowder and Louise Chaney of Danville, VA., Hazel C. Hall of Sperryville, VA. and Georgia C. Elliott of Dallas TX; one brother, Charles C. Crowder of Danville, VA.; and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved greatly.

Clarence McGhee
MILTON, N.C. — Clarence McGhee, 86, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000.
Born May 15, 1913, he was the son of Jacob McGhee and Pearlina McGhee.
He was a chef and the last survivor of his immediate family. He lived most of his life with the Thomas families.
Survivors include two nieces, Mildred McGhee of Roxboro and Juanita Lea of Milton; and two nephews, Wilson McGhee of Pelham; and Van McGhee of Georgia.
A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Milton City Cemetery with Bishop Edward Breedlove officiating.
A viewing was 5-8 p.m. Saturday at Plenty Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will receive friends at 101 E.C. Jones Rd.
Madge Barber
MANTEO, N.C. — Madge Wescott Daniels Barber, 101, of Manteo, N.C. died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000 in Elizabeth City, N.C.
Mrs. Barber was born in Manteo on March 22, 1898, was a retired teacher and also a travel escort for Brownell Travel. She was a graduate of Meredith College and received her master’s degree from Columbia University in New York City and was the Meredith Alumni of the year in 1982.
She was the last surviving daughter of the late Amanda Wescott Daniels and the late Capt. John T. Daniels who assisted the Wright Brothers with the first flight and took the photograph of the first flight.
Mrs. Barber is survived by a number of nieces and nephews among whom are Sarah Buchanan and Martha Chukinas of Danville.
Funeral services will be held at Manteo Baptist Church on Saturday, January 8, 2000, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Bruce Warrington officiating.
Burial will follow in the Manteo Cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the service.

William Nichols
DURHAM, N.C. — William Swanson Nichols, 63, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Rose Manor Healthcare Center after five years of declining health.
Born July 25, 1936, in Danville, Va., he was the son of the late William Lewis Nichols and Nadine Myers Nichols, who survives.
He lived most of his life in Danville and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his mother of Danville, survivors include two brothers, Thomas Nichols and Joseph H. Nichols, both of Franklinton; three sisters, Marie N. Addison and Patsy N. Pierce, both of Durham, and Shirley N. Wynn of Lynchburg, Va.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Robert Vermillion officiating. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
