Minnie Robertson

BURLINGTON, N.C. — Minnie Clara Martin Robertson, 78, of 815 Grace Ave. died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, at Hospice Home after four years of declining health.
Born in Evington, Va., she was the daughter of Joseph Martin and Mary Candice Tilley Martin.
She was a housewife and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one daughter, Connie Hall of the residence; three sons, Don Scott of Graham, Eldridge Scott of Kernersville, and Julian Robertson Jr. of Danville, Va.; three sisters, Belle Sharpe of Greensboro and Della Long and Annie Mae Furgerson, both of Mebane; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A graveside funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Graham Memorial Park with the Rev. Michael Shannon officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at McClure Funeral Home, graham, and other times at the residence of her daughter at 815 Grace Ave.
Memorials may be given to the Hospice Home, 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215.

Rachel Poplin Moore

WILMINGTON, N.C. — Rachel Poplin Moore, a resident of Liberty Commons, Wilmington, NC, died Saturday, December 23, 2000 in New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Rocky Mount, NC, on August 30, 1905, the daughter of the late Lemuel Lee Poplin and Lorraine Church Poplin, and was the widow of Van Anderson Moore, Sr.
Mrs. Moore was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Moore retired from Belk-Beery Company in Wilmington with forty-five years of service.
Surviving are her daughter, Jane Murray of Wilmington; six grandchildren, Lawrence Murray, Jr., of Wilmington, Phillip Lee Murray of Hawaii, Libby Murray Cartier of Wrightsville Beach, Howard B. Moore, Cindy Moore, and Debra M. Gentry all of Danville, VA; and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son Van Moore, Jr. in 1987.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 26, 2000 in Greenlawn Memorial Park by Dr. Roger Horne and Dr. Glenn S. Edgerton.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Monday, December 25, 2000 at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel.
Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 500 Kenwood Avenue, Wilmington, NC, 28405.

Marjorie Dodd

RALEIGH, N.C. — Marjorie Doyle Dodd, 88, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000 at Raleigh Community Hospital.
Born in Luninburg County, she was a daughter of Robert Willie Doyle and Leta Walker Doyle.
She was first married icon to S. Onyx Newman, who predeceased her, and was later married icon to Oswald Dodd, who also predeceased her.
She was a registered nurse, having graduated from Danville Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1935. She was of the Methodist faith and was a member of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include two sons, Harry Newman of Oakhill, Va. and Sidney Newman Jr. of Centerville, Va.; one daughter, Marjorie Otstot of Raleigh; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Highland Burial Park, Danville, Va., with the Elder Julian Williams officiating.

Paul Ikenberry

EDEN, N.C. — Paul Wayland Ikenberry, 98, of 148 Cedarwood Drive died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at Morehead Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Wirtz, Va.
He was married icon to Frances Hazlip Ikenberry, who survives.
He was a retired foreman for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and was a member of Spray United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one sister, Mary Elizabeth Douthat of Roanoke, Va. and one brother, Henry C. Ikenberry Jr. of Chevy Chase, Md.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Haizlip Family Cemetery, Ridgeway, Va.
Fair Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Reverand Theodore Roosevelt Siddle

RUFFIN, N.C. - Reverand Theodore Roosevelt Siddle of 9950 Park Springs Road, died December 22, 2000, at Brian Center Nursing Home in Yanceville, North Carolina.
Funeral Services: 11:00 A.M. Tueday at Red Hill Baptist Church, Reverand Gregory Hopkins, officiating. Burial will be in Old Oak Grove Cemetery in Elizabeth City, NC.
He was born in Caswell County, NC where he received his early education. He completed his education at Virginia Seminary in Lynchburg, Virginia. He worked in Caswell County, Rockingham County, New York and at the Shipyard in Newport News, Virginia. After being called into ministry, he served four Baptist Congregations: High Street, Saint James, New Vernon, and News Ferry. He also acted as Interim Pastor at Red Hill during his retirement. Among his many activities, Rev. Siddle was a Mason, a Caswell County High School P.T.A. President, a Moderator for the Caswell County Medical Center, and a life-time member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
Survivors are, his daughter - Vanessa Siddle Walker; son-in-law, Melford W. Walker, Jr.; granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Walker, all of Tucker Georgia; brother, O.F. "pete" Siddle, Greensboro, N.C.; sister, Hattie Haskins, New York; and a host of nieces; nephews; and other family members and friends.
Visitation will be at Red Hill Baptist Church Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
McLaurin Funeral Home, Reidsville, NC is in charge of the arrangements.

Alton Morris

BLANCHE, N.C. — Alton Gray Zeke Morris, 60, of 1280 Farmer Road died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at Alamance Regional Medical Center, Burlington, after several years of declining health.
Born March 27, 1940, in Orange County, he was a son of Issac Wade Morris and Goldie Shorter Morris, who survives.
He was married icon to Barbara Ann Williams, who predeceased him. He lived most of his life in Bachelors Hall, Pittsylvania County, Va. where he was a well-known mechanic. He had lived on Farmers Road for five months and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother, survivors include one son, Alton Todd Morris of Bachelors Hall; one sister, Marjorie Morris Brooks of Blanche and two grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one sister, Gayle M. Atkins.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Chapel of Swicegood Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Markham officiating.
Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens with full military honors performed by American Legion Post 1097 Honor Guard.
The family will recieve friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.

Ralph Compton

BURLINGTON, N.C. — Ralph William Compton, 82, of 2435 Carolina Road died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at his residence, after several years of declining health.
Born in Caswell County, he was a son of John Lemuel Compton and Ella Mae Dunevant Compton.
He was married icon to Nannie Mae Garrison Compton, who predeceased him in 1992.
He was retired from Western Electric after 30 years of service. He was the owner and operator of Maple Grove Mobile Home Park.
He graduated from Pleasant Grove School in 1936.
He helped in the founding and the building of Faucette Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as the first Fire Chief from 1962-1967.
Survivors include five daughters, Betty Ann Thomas and Becky Stevenson, both of Burlington, Lillie Mae Bennett of Black Creek, Linda Tucker of Elon College and Patty Carter of Mebane; four sons, William L. Compton of Blanch, Donald R. Compton of Burlington, Kenneth D. Compton of Mebane and James R. Compton of New Hill; two sisters, Betty Sue Edwards and Frances Dameron, both of Burlington; two brothers, Walter Compton of Burlington and Wallace Compton of the Baynes community; 26 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by one sister, Dessie Mae Compton and two brothers, Hurley Compton and Zellie N. Compton.
A funeral will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at Lakeview United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Reid Dickens and the Elder Wallis Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral at the church. The family will receive friends 6-9 p.m. Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Tarnisha Gwynn

YANCEYVILLE, N.C. — Tarnisha Rene Gwynn, 25, of Sunvail Apt. died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at her residence.
Born August 25, 1975, she was the daughter of Ulysses and Esther Dunn Gwynn, who survive.
She was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church where she was a former member of the usher board. She graduated from Bartlett Yancey High School in 1994 and later attended Piedmont Community College where she majored in computer science. She was employed at Hardees in Yanceyville as a waitress.
In addition to her parents of Pelham, survivors include two daughters, Alexis Smith and Aalayah Smith of the residence; three brothers, Maurice Gwynn of Ruffin, Ulysses R. Gwynn of Atlanta, Ga. and Willie Gwynn of Pelham and four sisters, Vanessa Gwynn Stephens of Burlington, Virginia Gwynn of Yanceyville, and Gwendolyn Gwynn and Yvonne Henderson, both of Pelham.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Mineral Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Freddie Seabrooks officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
A viewing will be held from 2-8 p.m. Friday at Fulton Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her parents, 5200 Allison Road, Pelham.
Fulton Funeral Home, Yanceyville, is in charge of arrangements.

Wilma Harris Leslie

STATESVILLE, N.C. — Wilma Harris Leslie, 88, of Statesville, N.C. died Wednesday, December 27, 2000 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Leslie is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Carol L. Robinette and husband W.H. Robinette, Jr. of Statesville. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Mrs. Sherrie L. Lee of Statesville, Dr. Sandy C. Gregory and wife Angela of Brookneal, Va., and Mr. William H. Robinette, III and wife Robin of Newport News, Va.
Graveside services for Mrs. Leslie will be conducted Thursday, December 28, 2000 at 11:00 at Iredell Memorial Gardens.
For those who prefer, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Choir Fund, Statesville, N.C. 28677, or to the Patrick Henry Boys and Girls Plantation, Inc., Route 2, Box 125, Brookneal, Va. of which Dr. Gregory is Executive Director.

Sarah Taylor

REIDSVILLE, N.C. — Sarah Hobgood Taylor, 91, of Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Danville died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Sunbridge.
Born in Granville County, she was the daughter of Royal Lee and Cora Lee Hobgood.
She was married icon to Roy A. Taylor Sr., who predeceased her. She was retired from Dan River Mills where she was a time keeper for over 43 years. She was a member of Covington Wesleyan Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Soyars of Reidsville; four sons, Edward Taylor of Ruffin and Donald Taylor and Charlie Taylor, both of Reidsville, and John "Tommy" Taylor of Danville, Va.; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Dallas R. Taylor, Roy A. Taylor Jr. and Robert L. Taylor; and two daughters, Audrey T. Carter and Dorothy T. Edmonson.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Reidlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, P.O. Box 281, Wentworth, N.C. 27375.
