Ella Barker

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Ella Taylor Barker, 89, of 246 Dumont Drive died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center.
Born May 14, 1911, in Henry County, Va., she was a daughter of William T. "Bud" and Florence Overton Taylor.
She was married icon to William H. Barker Sr., who predeceased her.
She was a homemaker and a member of Parkview Church of God.
Survivors include one son, William H. Barker Jr. of Kernersville; one brother, Clay Taylor of Richmond, Va.; one sister, Elma Kent of Danville, Va.; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Parkview Church of God, with the Rev. Bobby Dishman officiating. A graveside service will follow at 2;30 p.m. Tuesday at Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville, Va.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Monday at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Home, Kernersville.

Mary Farthing

EDEN, N.C. — Mary Allen Turner Farthing, 93, of Bayberry Retirement Inn died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at Moorehead Memorial Hospital, Eden, after several months of declining health and a five day-stay at the hospital.
Born Dec. 23, 1907, in Lynchburg, Va., she was a daughter of William J. Turner and Lennie Turner.
On June 14, 1927, she was married icon to Oscar Vernon Farthing, who predeceased her, Jan. 11, 1983.
Survivors include one sister, Effie T. Bruce of Tampa, Fla. and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel, with the Elder Melvin Shelton, the Elder Troy Simpson and the Elder H.P. Somers officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at 9665 U.S. Hwy. 29., Blairs, Va.

John Pinchback

YANCEYVILLE, N.C. — John Allen Pinchback, 67, of 218 Melvin Road died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 25, 1933, in Blanche, N.C., he was a son of John Wilson Pinchback and Catherine Willis Pinchback.
He was married icon to Gloria Thompson Pinchback, who survives.
He was a retired barber in the Danville area.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Yvonne Pinchback of Knightdale, N.C.; four sons, Derrick Pinchback of Yanceyville, N.C., Dennis Pinchback of Charlotte, N.C., Donald Pinchback of Garner, N.C. and Douglas Pinchback of Greensboro, N.C. and two sisters, Sherdina Gwynn of Reidsville, N.C. and Nettie Johnson of Providence, N.C.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at River Zion Baptist Church, Blanche, N.C., with the Rev. S. Tyrone Thornton officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery, with military honors by American Legion Post 29 Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Arthur Jackson

EDEN, N.C. — Arthur Lee Jackson, 72, died Friday, June 30, 2000, at Morehead Nursing Center.
Born in Kings Mountain, he was married icon to Dorothy Dodd Jackson, who survives. He was a member and former deacon of First Presbyterian Church. He attended Westminster College and Yale University, graduated from NSCU, and later attended UNC-Chapel Hill for post graduate studies. He was a retired executive vice president of Fieldcrest Mills-Karasatan, and was director of Fieldcrest-Ireland. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of the National Cotton Council. He was also a member and past president of NC Textile Manufacturers Association and was director of Crossley Karastan.
In addition to his wife of Eden, survivors include four daughters, Laura Owens of Hickory, Ellen Long of Lewisville, and Ann Sandler and Amy Blackmer, both of Richmond, Va.; three sisters, Mildred Davenport of Charlotte, Sarah Smith of Summerville, S.C., and Margaret Woodcock of Raleigh; two brothers, Bob Jackson of Greensboro and Harold Jackson of Spartanburg, S.C., and eight grandchildren.
A funeral was held at 4 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church. Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Saturday at Fair Funeral Home, and will receive friends other times at the residence, 303 D Orleander Drive, Eden.
Fair Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Norman Graves

BLANCH, N.C. — Norman Lee Graves, of 763 Bertha Wilson Road, died Saturday, July 1, 2000, in the Alamance Health Care Center, Burlington, N.C.
Born Nov. 11, 1934, in Caswell County, N.C., he was the son of Willie Graves and Amanda Graves.
He was married icon to Luetheal McCain Graves, who survives. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, and was a retired employee of Dan River Mills. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by one son, Norman Carl Graves of Atlanta; two daughters, Patricia Ann Jones of Danville and Debra Ann Graves of Hillsborough, N.C.; three stepsons, Norman Junior Watlington and James Watlington, both of Greensboro and Raymond Lee Watlington of the residence; four stepdaughters, Carolyn Ann Walters and Annette Garland, both of Milton, N.C., Brenda Walters of Pelham and Penny Lee Graves of Yanceyville; three brothers, Tom Graves, Richard Graves and Dan Graves, all of Yanceyville; one sister, Ruedell Graves Miles of Yanceyville; 26 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from Ebenezer Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park.
A viewing will be held from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Fulton Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will receive friends at the residence and at the residence of his sister, 4670 Hwy 86 N., Yanceyville, N.C.

Carol Pruitt

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Carol Annette Pruitt, 41, a resident of Vencor Hospital in Greensboro, N.C., for the past five years, died Sunday, July 2, 2000 after several years of declining health.
Born May 22, 1959 in Danville, she was the daughter of William McKinley Pruitt and Ruth Anne Pruitt Pruitt.
She was an employee of Dan River Inc. until her health failed. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Survivors include one son, John Jacob Pruitt of Danville; and two sisters, Cheryl V. Pruitt of Danville and Lynda P. Perkins of Halifax.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday from Highland Burial Park.
Barker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

William Paschal Sr.

BURLINGTON, N.C. — William Leonard Paschal Sr., 66, of 2527 Orice St., died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at his residence.
Born in Rockingham County, he was the son of Basley Leonard and Beulah Somers Paschal.
He was married icon to Beverly Lillard Paschal, who survives. He was retired from Burlington Industries, and was former owner of Sweeps-A-Lot.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Rhonda Campbell of Mooresville and Cheryl Rose of Burlington; one son, William L. Paschal of Rockvale, Tenn.; one sister, Mary Ann Paschal of Elon College; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one daughter, Patti Carol Paschal; one sister, Maureen Paschal, and one brother, Paul Paschal.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Dan River Primitive Baptist Church, Ruffin.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Lowe Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
Memorial contributions may be made to Light of the World Ministry, 553 Kerr Chapel Road, Burlington, N.C., 27217, or Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, P.O. Box 2122, Burlington, N.C., 27216.

Katie Lester

REIDSVILLE, N.C. — Mrs. Katie Farrish Herbin Lester of 165 Ridge Street died Saturday evening, July 8, 2000 at the Vencor Hospital.
She was a native of Caswell County, North Carolina, and had resided in Reidsville for the past fifty years. Mrs. Lester was a faithful member of Galilee Pentecostal Holiness Church serving with the Missionary Department, Usher Board and Senior Choir.
She was a member of the Ridge Street Flower Club and the 21st Century Club.
Survivors are: three loving daughters, Ms. Betty H. Johnson and Ms. Clara Abbott, both of Reidsville, Mrs. Beatrice H. Tucker and spouse, Raymond, both of Ruffin; four devoted sons, Mamond E. Herbin and spouse, Nellie, Ronnie L. Herbin and spouse, Joyce, all of Reidsville, Dillard Herbin and Baisley Simon Herbin Jr., both of Worcester, Massachusetts; 33 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Ms. Eva F. Ashe of Reidsville; other relatives and many treasured friends. Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2000 from the Galilee Pentecostal Holiness Church, 224 Pennsylvania Avenue, Reidsville.
Bishop McDaniel Preston will preside and interment will follow in the Chapel Hill Progressive Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
The family visitation will be Monday evening from 7 until 7:30 p.m. at the Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, 115 Holderby Street, Reidsville and may be contacted other times at the residence of Ronnie and Joyce Herbin, 118 Glen Meadow Drive, Reidsville.

Claude Hodges

RUFFIN, N.C. — Claude Stanton Hodges, 75, of 7071 NC 700, died Friday, June 23, 2000 at Morehead Memorial Hospital.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday from Happy Home Congregational Christian Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Born in Rockingham County, he was a member of Happy Home Congregational Christian Church and a 22-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II and the Korean War. He was also a retired recruiter. He was an employee of Corning Corp. in Danville prior to his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Minnie Hooker Hodges of the residence; three daughters, Carol and husband Sherrill Whitley of Reidsville, N.C., Teresa Haynes and her husband Ed of Eden and Carla Rierson of Reidsville; three sons, Donald Hodges and his wife Donna, Tim Hodges and his wife Debbie and Rodney Hodges, all of Ruffin; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five brothers, Herman Hodges of Galveston, Texas, Wayne Hodges of Eden, Charles Hodges of Boise City, La., Otha Hodges of Eden and Gordon Hodges of Pennsylvania; and two sisters, Helen Keller of Boise City and Barbara Tate of Eden.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 Sunday at Fair Funeral Home, Eden, and at other times at the residence.

Mildred Lewis

HENDERSON, N.C. — Mildred Davis Lewis, 82, of Warrenton Road, died Saturday, June 24, 2000 at Oxford Manor.
A native of Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of James Nathan and Lessie Miliam Davis.
She was married icon to Willard Jackson Lewis, who predeceased her.
She was a homemaker and a member of North Henderson Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Pauline Lewis Henderson of Henderson; three sisters, Mamie Christianbury of Durham, N.C.; Martha Satterfield of South Boston and Margaret Henderson of Keeling; one brother, Nathan Davis of Danville; one granddaughter and one great-grandson.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday from Highland Burial Park, with the Rev. Jimmy Nickelston officiating.
The family will receive friends Sunday from the residence of Pauline Henderson, on the Warrenton Road, Warren County.
