Mabel L. Burrell

LEXINGTON, N.C. — Mabel Elizabeth Long Burrell, 93, of Ninth Street, Lexington, died Thursday, March 8, 2001 at Sunbridge Nursing Home after three months of serious illness.
Born Aug. 21, 1907 in Pittsylvania County, Va., she was the daughter of Henry Long and Mollie Sanders Long.
She was married icon to Fred S. Burrell, who predeceased her Dec. 10, 1968. She was retired from Corriber Mill.
Survivors include five daughters, Coralee Bowers and Ila Swing, both of Lexington, Mildred Price of Kannapolis, Margie Warren and Brenda Hash, both of Danville, Va.; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her husband and parents, by one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Spruce Street Baptist Church with the Revs. Noah Frye, Harold Parker and Cecil Goodman officiating. Interment will follow at Rowan Memorial Park in Salisbury.
The family will be receiving friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of her daughter, 403 Westover Drive.
The family suggests memorials may be made to Spruce Street Baptist Church, 407 Spruce Street, Lexington, NC 27292 or Davidson County Cancer Services, 503 West Center Street, Lexington, N.C. 27292.
Davidson Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

Vera Clark

STONEVILLE, N.C. — Vera Joyce Clark, 84, of 981 Janet Rd., Stoneville, died Wednesday, March 7, 2001 at her home.
Her funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 9, 2001 at the Ray Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Joe Hall officiating. Burial will be in the Joyce Chapel Church Cemetery in Stoneville.
Mrs. Clark was a lifelong resident of Rockingham County, a homemaker, and an avid quilter. She was a member of the Joyce Chapel Church and attended the Horsepasture Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harvey Gleen Clark.
She is survived by her daughter, Vickie Clark Wells and husband W.A. Wells, III of Danville, Va.; 2 granddaughters, Courtney Wells of Blacksburg, Va. - "Va. Tech" and Lindsey Wells of Danville, Va.; 3 sisters, Hazel Chaney of Stoneville, Delora Manuel of Toast, and Minnie Holt of Summerfield; and special friends, Darrell and Sue Johnson and Margaret and Jimmie Hinson.
The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the committal at the cemetery and all other times at the home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Joyce Chapel Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Sue Johnson, 968 Janet Road, Stoneville, NC 27048.

Priscilla Fuller

YANCEYVILLE, N.C. — Priscilla Slade Fuller, 42, of 231 North Avenue, died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at UNC Hospital, Chapel Hill, N.C., after a sudden illness.
Born May 17, 1958, in Caswell County, she was the daughter of Mollie Bell Totten Slade and Elbert Slade.
She was married icon to Taranta Fuller. She was an employee of Royal Home Fashions in Mebane, N.C.
Survivors in addition to her husband include two sons, Christopher Smith of Semora, N.C., Adrion McLaughlin of the home; one daughter, Chanlese McLaughlin of the home; two step-daughters, Michell Hester of Haw River, N.C. Kimberly Watlington of Graham, Washington, D.C.; three brothers, Elbert Slade Jr., of Fort Belvair, Va., Wayne Slade of Washington, D.C., Jimmy Slade of Winston Salem, N.C. and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday, at Yanceyville Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. A.N. Grier, II officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 pm. at Fulton Funeral Home and at other time at the residence 231 North Avenue Yanceyville, N.C.

Johnnie Smith

RUFFIN, N.C. — Johnnie F. Smith, Jr. 76, of 1118 Allison Road died Friday March 9 at Danville Regional Medical Center following several years of declining health.
He was born in Danville, Va., February 19, 1925, a son of Johnnie F. Smith, Sr. and Annie Will Harrelson Smith. He attended Cobb Memorial School and Bethesda Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by a sister Elizabeth Smith Divinie Chaney of Ruffin, Franklin & Roxana Divinie of Hamstead, N.C., Great Nephews David & Lisa Divinie, Michael & David Divinie, and great niece Alexandria and Gabrielle Divinie.
Funeral service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Bethesda Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. George McDowell, Pastor and Rev. Claude Harrelson. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7-8 at Harrelson Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his sister Elizabeth Chaney at 1118 Allison Road.

Charles Turner Sr.

YANCEYVILLE, N.C. — Charles "Big Baye" Thomas Turner Sr., 50, of 3921 U.S. Highway 158 West, died Friday, March 9, 2001 as a result of an automobile accident.
Born July 8, 1950 in Caswell County, he was the son of Mary Ervin Stokes Turner and Willie Edward Turner.
He was married icon to Christine Gwynn Turner, who survives. He was a member of Blackwell Baptist Church and worked for Copland Fabrick in Burlington as a machine operator.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence and mother of Yanceyville, include one son, Charles Thomas Turner Jr. of Polkton; three daughters, Charity Turner and Chandrel Turner, both of the residence, Patricia Hamlett of Yanceyville; two brothers, John Turner of Yanceyville, Clarence Turner of Roxboro; three sisters, Victoria Smith and Elizabeth Turner, both of Yanceyville, Dorothy Simpson of Burlington and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Blackwell Baptist Church with the Rev. Everett Dickerson officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will be receiving friends 7-8 p.m. Monday at Blackwell Baptist Church and at other times at the residence.
Fulton Funeral Home in Yanceyville will be in charge of arrangements.

Clarence Wilkerson

PELHAM, N.C. — Clarence Junior Wilkerson, 65, of 1315 Lovelace Road, died Friday March 9, 2001, at his residence after three months of declining health.
Born May 3, 1935, he was the son of Levi Wilkerson and Minnie Berta Lovelace Wilkerson.
He was married icon to Louise Ferguson Wilkerson on Oct. 26, 1956. He spent most of his life in the Pelham area of Caswell County, N.C., where he was the owner and operation of Wilkerson's Heating and Air Conditioning Repairs and Service. He was a member of State Line Baptist Church.
Survivors in addition to his wife include, two daughters, Brenda W. Boswell of Providence, N.C., Kathy W. Spencer of Chatham; two sisters, Louise W. Bray of Pelham, N.C., Shirley W. Myers of Danville,; three brothers Thomas A. Wilkerson and Bud F. Wilkerson both of Pelham, N.C.; Darrell B. Wilkerson of Danville, and four grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Wallace and Rev. Vernon Thomas Hayden officiating. Interment will follow at the Wilkerson Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, and at other times at the residence of his sister, Shirley Myers at 500 Pruitt Road, off of Holland Road. Memorial contributions may be made to the State Line Baptist Church Building Fund, 651 Holland Road, Danville, Va, 24541.

David Hadley

PELHAM, N.C. — David Carrol Hadley, 82, of 10560 N.C. 700, Pelham, died Sunday, March 11, 2001 at Morehead Memorial Hospital.
Born in Saskatchewan Providence, Canada, he was married icon to Margaret T. Hadley, who survives. He was a member of Harmony Masonic Lodge No. 38 in Hillsborough, N.H., and worked for Dan River before his retirement.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, David Hadley Jr. of Los Angeles, Calif.; a daughter, Brenda Plunkett of McConnellsville, N.Y.; a brother, Everett Hadley of Ada, Ohio; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a sister, Virginia Lewis and a brother, Arthur Hadley.
There will be no funeral service.
Fair Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

Alfred “Steve” Stephens

MOUNT AIRY, N.C. — Mr. Alfred Thomas “Steve” Stephens, age 71, of 212 Northwood Drive, Mount Airy, widower of Betty Tidwell Stephens, passed away Monday, March 12, 2001 at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Stephens was born in Danville, VA, on April 29, 1929, to the late William Washington and Anna Rebecca Edwards Stephens.
Mr. Stephens retired from the United States Navy as a Petty Officer 1st Class after 20 years of service. Mr. Stephens retired from the United States Civil Service, where he worked in vehicle repair maintenance, and was a faithful member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Rev. Billy Durham of Titusville, FL; a son and daughter-in-law, Terrell and Kelly K. Stephens of Mount Airy; six grandchildren, Josiah Durham, Asher Durham, and Chloe Durham, all of Titusville, FL, and Lindsey Stephens, Sarah Stephens, and Will Stephens, all of Mount Airy; two sisters, Pearl McGuire of Alexandria, VA, and Betty Snead of Danville, VA; and a brother, James M. Stephens of Ridgeway, VA. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Stephens was preceded in death by eleven brothers and sisters.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, March 15, 2001 at 2:00 PM at Pleasant View Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by Rev. Phil Kelley and Rev. Davis Love, with burial in the Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home of Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes before the funeral service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Pleasant View Baptist Church, 154 Mountainview Drive, Mount Airy, NC 27030.

Robert Eugene Tally

ZEBULON, N.C. — Rev. Robert Eugene Tally, 91, of 603 Sexton Avenue, died Monday, March 12, 2001 at Guardian Care in Zebulon.
Born June 21, 1909 in Chatham County, he was the son of George M. Tally and Myrtie Oldham Tally.
He was married icon Dec. 7, 1935 to Pauline Kissell Tally, who survives. He served as pastor for Wake, Franklin and Johnston County area churches for many years and for 17 years, he served at the Third Avenue Congregational Church in Danville, Va.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one daughter, Phyllis Jean Edwards of Wendell; one brother, John Howard Tally of Sanford; one sister, Maggie T. Jourdan of Burlington; one grandson and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. W.C. Barham officiating. The graveside service will follow 2 p.m. Thursday at Carbonton United Methodist Church cemetery in Sanford.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, and at other times at the residence of Phyllis Edwards, 1059 South Hollybrook Road, Wendell.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Baptist Tabernacle Church Building Fund, c/o Joyce Creech, Treasurer, 12563 N.C. Highway 231, Zebulon, NC 27597.

Nancy Davis

ROXBORO, N.C. — Nancy Holt Davis, 86, of The Brian Center, Yanceyville, formerly of 374 Carver Holt Road, died Sunday, March 18, 2001 at Person Memorial Hosptial after a lengthy illness.
Born in Person County, she was the daughter of Andrew Thomas and Sally Carver Holt.
She was married icon to Woodson Davis, who predeceased her in 1987. She worked for Collins and Aikman Corporation until her retirement and was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Sue D. White of Yanceyville, Nell Whitt of Daytona Beach, Fla,; three sons, Carrol G. Davis, Earl L. Davis and Bruce S. Davis, all of Roxboro; six sisters, Hurley H. Long, Navie H. Paul, Delma H. Green, Sadie H. Carver and Texie Lou H. Wrenn, all of Roxboro, Annie Lee H. Duncan of Leasburg; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Oak Grove United Methodist Church with the Revs. David Woodhouse and Herbert Brown officiating. Interment will follow at the Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Strickland Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of Nell Whitt, 375 Carver Holt Road, Roxboro.
Strickland Funeral Home, 1314 North Main Street, Roxboro, will be in charge of arrangements.
