George McIntyre
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. — George Philip McIntyre, 54, of 992 Main Street, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at Cone Hospital, Greensboro, N.C.
Born Jan. 5, 1947, in Spartenburg, S.C. He was the son of George Claude McIntyre and Ruby Emory McIntyre.
He was married
to Virginia England McIntyre, who survives. He was a member of Beulah Baptist Church, employed by Wampler-Evans Appraisal Service, Dalesville, Va.
Survivors include one son, George Philip McIntyre of Spartenburg, S.C.; one step-daughter, Ellen Clayton of Greensboro, N.C.; one sister, Claire Love McIntyre, of Spartenburg, S.C.; two grandsons, and one step-granddaughter.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Beulah Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends and family 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Beulah Baptist Church, Hwy. 158 East Yanceyville, N.C.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donation be made to Beulah Baptist Mission Fund, C/O Mrs. Phillip Bowles, 3078 N.C. Hwy. 119 North, Leasburg, N.C. 27291.

Laruth Mitchell
PELHAM, N.C. — Laruth Williamson Mitchell, 54, of Pell Care Nursing, formerly of 1045 Gwynn Chapel Road, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, in the Pell Care Nursing Facility in Walkertowne, N.C., after a lengthy illness.
Born Oct. 5, 1947, in Caswell County, she was the daughter of the Armistice Williamson and Novella Swann Williamson.
She was married
to Alvis "Steve" Mitchell. She was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Winston Salem State University and was a school teacher in Halifax County for a number of years.
Survivors include one sister, Wanda Williamson, of Roxboro, N.C.
A viewing will be held 4-8 p.m. Monday at Fulton Funeral Home.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Fulton Funeral Home Chapel. Interement will follow at Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 12 p.m. Tuesday at Fulton Funeral Home Chapel, prior to the funeral.

Eula Carter
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. —Eula Mae Carter, 79, of 4104 Cedar Creek Road, Fayetteville, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at I.H.S. of Fayetteville.
She was a member of Judson Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for 52 years.
Survivors include one son, Roger Ray Carter of Fayetteville; three daughters, Linda C. Hall and Diane C. Hancock, both of Fayetteville, and Peggy C. Wright of Danville, Va.; one sister, Mildred M. Hall of Fayetteville; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Judson Baptist Church with Dr. Mack Roberts officiating. Interment will follow at Judson Baptist Church cemetery.
Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorials may be sent to Judson Baptist Church, Cedar Creek Road, Fayetteville, N.C.

Mary Mabane
REIDSVILLE, N.C. — Mary Frances Mabane, 106, of 1329 Mc Gehee St. died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at Annie Penn Hospital.
Arrangements are incomplete at this time.

John Adkins
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — John D. Adkins, age 60, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 16, 2001. John leaves behind a loving family; his devoted wife of 38 years, Sylvia, and three sons, Jay Adkins of Houston, TX, Scott Adkins of Irving, TX and Brett Adkins of Arlington, TX. He also leaves behind Scott’s wife, Jamie Plummer Adkins and their three children, Emily, Abbie and Evan, who will miss him very much.
John will be remembered for his faith, his commitment to family and Church, and for his service to such organizations as Young Life and Oak Ranch. After retirement a year ago, John’s dream was realized through his active participation in developing Oak Ranch, a Christian residential community for neglected and abused children, located in Sanford, NC.
A native of Spring Garden, VA, John was a 1963 graduate of the University of Virginia. During his 37 years as a marketing executive for Exxon, the Adkins lived in Houston, TX and Bernardsville, NJ among other places.
Calling hours are 4-6 PM Saturday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 1113 West Main St., Durham, NC. The funeral will be 3:00 PM Sunday in the Church of the Good Shepherd. Donations in John’s memory may be made to Oak Ranch, P.O. Box 1708, Sanford, NC 27331.
Janie McIver
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Janie Holloway McIver, 63, of 504 Glen Canyon Drive, died Monday, April 16, 2001, at the residence.
Born in Caswell County, she was the daughter of Americus Holloway and Lucy J. Henderson Holloway.
Survivors include one daughter, Angela J. McIver of Fayetteville and one sister, Lethaniel H. Gwynn of Yanceyville.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by three sisters, Nettie F. Holloway, Inez H. Long and Clevie Holloway and one brother, Irvin Neal Holloway.
The funeral will be held 12 noon Thursday at Bethel A.M.E. Zion Church with the Rev. Erskin Lowe officiating. Interment will follow at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.

William Stanley
RUFFIN, N.C. — William Oliver Stanley, 86, of 231 Williamson Creek Road, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 1, 1914, in Surry County, he was the son of Emery Vance Stanley and Susan Tannie Davis Stanley.
He was married
to Elizabeth Watlington Stanley, who predeceased him Oct. 1, 1997. He lived most of his life in the Mayfield community of Rockingham County, where he was a member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church. He was a farmer and also worked for Dan River, Inc. and Stanley’s V.W. Garage. He was a member of the Dan River Retired Employees Club.
The graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Ralph Clayton officiating.
The family will be receiving friends 7-8 p.m. Friday at Swicegood Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Raymond Thaxton
MILTON, N.C. — Raymond Thaxton, 75, formerly of Milton, died Thursday, April 12, 2001 at the Brian Center Nursing Home in Yanceyville.
Born Nov. 2, 1926 in Person County, N.C., he was the son of Nathaniel Thaxton and Kate Garland Thaxton.
He was married
to Grace Lawson Thaxton, who predeceased him. He was a member of Holy Tabernacle Holiness Church and worked as a pipe fitter for Dan River Mills until his retirement. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
Survivors include one daughter, Brenda T. Lipscomb of Danville, Va.; one sister, Clematine Anderson of Amelia, Va.; and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents and wife, by one grandson.
The memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at River Zion Baptist Church in Blanch, N.C.
The family will be receiving friends at the residence of Brenda T. Lipscomb, 1160 Piney Forest Road, Danville, Va.

Alan White
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Alan Bradsher White, 45, of Greensboro, died Friday, April 13, 2001 at his residence.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, April 16, 2001 at Forbis & Dick Guilford Chapel with the Reverend Paul Luttrell officiating.
Mr. White was of the Baptist Faith. He was a salesman for Cable Express in High Point and he will be forever remembered as a loving husband and father.
Survivng Mr. White is his wife of twenty-one years, Cheryl Shropshire White, of the home; son, Jonathan Bradsher White and daughter Jennifer Lynn White both also of the home; father and stepmother, Brad and Mary White of Yanceyville, N.C.; brother Michael White of Providence, N.C.; brother Steve White and wife Cindy of Randleman, N.C.; sister Kim Hodge and husband Steve of Greensboro, mother-in-law, Peggy Thompson of Greensboro as well as one niece and five nephews.
His mother, Clara Matherly White, preceded Mr. White in death.
A visitation for friends and family will be held on Sunday, April 15, 2001 from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Forbis & Dick Guilford College Chapel 5926 W. Friendly Ave.

Leonard White
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. —Leonard H. White, 76, died Friday, April 13, 2001, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
He served with the United States Army for several years after World War II. He retired from Healey Distributing Company in 1986.
Survivors include one stepson, Harvey Jeffries of Chapel Hill; one brother, Leroy White of Danville, Va. and one granddaughter.
The memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home with the Rev. Bryan Sexton officiating.
Visitation will be held 1-2 p.m. Saturday at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
