Peggy McKinney
RUFFIN, N.C. — Peggy Soyars McKinney, 60, of 2218 Ashland Road, died Monday, July 23, 2001, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
Born in Rockingham County, she was a daughter of William Soyars and Kathleen Somers Soyars.
She was married
to Joseph A. McKinney, who survives. She lived in the Casville community of Caswell County for the past 39 years and was a member of Camp Springs United Methodist Church. She was an employee of Holt Hosiery.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of the residence, include two sons, Curtis Daryl Shaw of Reidsville and Robert Keith Shaw of the residence; one stepson, Joseph C. McKinney of Kentucky; one brother, William “Billy“ Soyars of Burlington; and one granddaughter.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by one brother, Fletcher Soyars.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Camp Springs United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Citty Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Mary ‘Skeet’ Milliner
PELHAM, N.C. — Mary Alice “Skeet” Milliner, 68, of 2314 Old U.S. Highway 29, died Friday, July 13, 2001, at the Alamance Regional Hospital in Burlington.
Born May 27, 1933, in Danville, she was a daughter of Charlie Buck Hairston and Amanda Hairston.
She was married
to James Milliner, who survives.
Other survivors include one son, Bobby Lee Hairston of Pelham and one sister, Marie Frances Moore of Roanoke.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home with the Rev. London Walker officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Jessica Moore
REIDSVILLE, N.C. — Jessica Renee Moore, 7, of 227 South Andes Road, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at 8:30 p.m. in Reidsville as the result of a drowning accident.
Born Nov. 22, 1993, in Reidsville, she was the daughter of Sharon Moore, of Reidsville, and Michael W. Adams, of Danville, who survive.
Survivors, in addition to her parents include grandmother Mary Jones of Reidsville and great-grandparents Jessie and Ida Adams of Blanch.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Mary Jones, 227 South Andes Road in Reidsville, and other times at 335 Audubon Drive, #4B, Danville.
Thelma Myers
PELHAM, N.C. — Thelma Lucas Myers, 66, of 1125 Arch Cook Road, died Sunday, July 15, 2001, at Chapel Hill Rehabilitation Health Center in Chapel Hill.
Born July 6, 1935, in Pittsylvania County, Va., she was the daughter of Robert Lindsey Lucas and Nellie Reed Lucas, who survives.
She was married
to Major W. Myers Sr., who survives. She lived most of her life in Pelham and had been in the nursing home since August 2000. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors, including her husband of the residence and mother of Danville, Va., include two daughters, Brenda Richmond of Smith Mountain Lake, Va., and Peggy Harvell of Danville, Va.; five sons, the Rev. Mike Myers of Brosville, Va., Roger Myers, Robert C. “Bug” Myers and Major Woody Myers Jr., all of Pelham, and Kenneth R. Myers of Burlington; six sisters, Mildred Massey of Casville, Elizabeth Fuller of Roanoke Rapids, Bessie Salmon and Barbara “Vivian” Massey, both of Danville, Va., Louise Hatcher of Pelham and Dorothy Myers of Ruffin; two brothers, Herbert Lucas of Salter Path and Robert Lucas Jr. of Pelham; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; five step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren and three step-great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her father, by one brother, Lindsey Lucas.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Mayes officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park in Danville, Va.
The family will receive friends 6-8:30 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Chapel and other times at the residence.

Tony Peters
PROVIDENCE, N.C. — Tony Wayne Peters, 53, of 2719 Seamster Road, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center Emergency Dept.
Born Dec. 26, 1947, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Buford Nelson Peters, who survives and Gaynell Meggison Peters.
He was married
to Cindy McCarter Peters, who survives. He lived most of his life in Pittsylvania County and lived in Providence of the past 13 years.
He worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and served as crew chief for Timothy Peters Racing. He was of the Holiness faith.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence and his father of Danville, Va., include one son, Timothy Peters of Providence; one daughter, Lori Moye of Boones Mill; one brother, Buford N. Peters Jr. of Ringgold, Va. and one sister, Susan Beltram of Danville, Va.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Cleveland Duke officiating. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.

William ‘Bill’ Clayton Sr.
PROVIDENCE, N.C. — William “Bill” Henry Clayton Sr., 83, of 10051 Highway 86, died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at Piney Forest Health Care Center after five years of declining health and a two-month stay at a nursing home.
Born Sept. 4, 1917, in Caswell County, he was the son of Walter B. Clayton and Mary Fannie Durham Clayton.
He was married
to Otelia Wilson Clayton, who predeceased him in 1963 and was married
May 28, 1966, to Frances Branscome Clayton, who survives. He was a veteran of the United States Army and received two Purple Hearts as well as several medals while serving in France during World War II. He worked for Dan River Inc. as a supervisor for many years and was a member of Gateway Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include one daughter, Sally Cope of Lynch Station and three sons, William H. Clayton Jr. of Ringgold, Va., John Clayton of Nags Head and Kenneth Clayton of Micanopy, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Linda King of Danville, Va. and Ann Mays of Chatham, Va.; two stepsons, Robert G. Branscome of Chapel Hill and Wayne Branscome of Richmond, Va.; one sister, Edna Dodson of Providence, N.C.; one brother, Herbert Clayton of Danville; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Barbara East
ELON COLLEGE, N.C. —Barbara Ellen Hall East, 53, of 2614 Pagetown Road, died Monday, July 23, 2001, as the result of an automobile accident.
Born March 21, 1948, in Caswell County, she was a daughter of Lewis T. and Novahlee Brinkley Hall.
She graduated from Bartlett-Yancey High School and was employed by Holt Hosiery. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Ann Ingle and Nicole East, both of the residence; two sons, Steven East of the residence and Charles East of Reidsville; one sister, Annie Lee Ellington of Ruffin; eight brothers, Johnny Hall of Leasburg, Harley, Sammy, Louis and Gwynn Hall, all of Reidsville, Jimmy Hall of Ridgeway, Tommy Hall of Eden and Mack Hall of Crescent City, Ariz.; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home in Yanceyville with Johnny Hall officiating. Interment will follow at New Hope United Methodist Church cemetery.
Lemma Gunn
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. — Lemma Long Gunn of 741 Blackwell Road, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Duke University Hospital in Durham.
Born Jan. 28, 1922, in Caswell County, she was the daughter of Brud Floyd Long and Lillie Swift Long.
She was married
to John Henry Gunn Sr., who survives. She was a member of Burton Chapel Baptist Church where she sang in the Senior Choir and was a member of the Missionary Circle. She was a graduate of Caswell County Training School Class of 1944. She was a cook for the Baptist Home before her retirement and was a homemaker.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of the residence, include two sons, John Henry Gunn Jr. and Larry Richmond, both of Burlington; five daughters, Mary Glenn of Milton, Anna Jeffers of Providence, Dorothy Blackwell of Yanceyville, Janice Richmond of Burlington and Brenda Lea of Prospect Hill; 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Burton Chapel Baptist Church in Mebane with the Rev. Maurice Boswell officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Sunday at Fulton Funeral Home and other times at the residence of her daughter, 104 Woodland Drive, Yanceyville.

Moses Jeffers
BLANCH, N.C. — Moses Jeffers, 71, of Baltimore died Saturday, July 21, 2001.
Born Dec. 1, 1929, in Caswell County, he was a son of the Rev. Eddie Jeffers and Maude Mitchell Jeffers.
He was married
to Bernice G. Jeffers, who survives. He was a member of Hamer Baptist Church and was a retired truck driver.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Leroy Jeffers and Brandon Jeffers, both of Baltimore; three daughters, Mozell Franklin, Patricia Jeffers and Elaine Roberts, all of Baltimore; three brothers, James Sherman Jeffers of Blanch, Joseph Jeffers of Danville and Fred Jeffers of Columbus, Ohio; six sisters, Annie Harrelson of Blanch, Nora Brown of Washington, Elmyra Pinnix of Burlington, N.C., Myrtle Bradshaw of New York, Mattie Jeffers of Danville and Mary Pace of Greensboro, N.C.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hamer Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Cephus Lea officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
The viewing will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the church.

Elsie Johnson
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. — Elsie Marie Brown Johnson, of 4318 Highway 158, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Brian Center Nursing Home.
Born Feb. 24, 1931, in Caswell County, she was a daughter of Johnnie Brown and Hallie Burton Brown.
She joined Burton Chapel Baptist Church at an early age and later became a member of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith.
Survivors include two children, Brenda Graves of Washington and Flinard Hough of Yanceyville; three brothers, Richard of Washington, James and John Brown, both of Yanceyville and three sisters, Nannie Florence Wimple of Baltimore, Rosa Lea of Yanceyville and Aquilla Jones of Dayton, Ohio.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by one brother, Gaston Brown and one sister, Mabeal Long.
Viewing will be held from 2-9 p.m. Thursday and visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Fulton Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will be at the residence.
