Fannie Rhodes

PROVIDENCE, N.C. —Fannie Ethel Johnson Rhodes, 78, of 129 Slade Court, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001 at the residence.
Born June 23, 1923 in Caswell County, she was a daughter of William Basley Johnson and Mary Alice Slade Johnson.
She was married icon to William Thomas Rhodes, who predeceased her. She was a member of Sassafras Grove Baptist Church and was a beautician in New York for many years before retirement.
Survivors include one son, William Thomas Rhodes of New York; one brother, William Albert Johnson Sr. of Yanceyville; and one sister, Nannie Spranzie Johnson Harley of Danville.
The funeral will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday at Blackwell Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Saturday at Fulton Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
Fulton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Sally Slade

YANCEYVILLE, N.C. — Sally Fountain Slade, 79, of 583 Main St., died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, at the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 30, 1921, in Caswell County, she was a daughter of Willie Slade and Goldie Phillips Slade.
She was a member of the Yanceyville Missionary Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Survivors include one daughter, Ann Dillard Bowe Beckwith of Yanceyville; one brother, Albert Slade of Washington, D.C.; one sister, Golden Bell Slade of Yanceyville; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Yanceyville Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Grier officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Sunday at Fulton Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
Fulton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lena Agee

HAW RIVER, N.C. — Lena Mae Lunsford Agee, 69, of 807 Sherri Drive, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at the residence following a short illness.
Born in Caswell County, she was the daughter of Wilbur and Katie W. Lunsford.
She was married icon to John Henry Agee, who survives. She was a homemaker and member of Crossroads Presbyterian Church. She was also an active member of her community and senior citizens.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of the residence, include four daughters, Judy Gentry of Roxboro, Lois Oakes of Prospect Hill, Cindy Wilkins of Leasburg and Lena Kay Warren of Burlington; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one sister, Gladys Donevan of Yanceyville.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by two sisters, Margaret Hicks and Catherine Crumpton, and one brother, Jesse Lunsford.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Crossroads Presbyterian Church with the Rev. T. Allen Huff Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church cemetery.
The family received friends 6-8 p.m. Sunday at McClure Funeral Home in Graham and other times at the residence.
The family suggests memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance/Caswell, P.O. Box 2122, Burlington, N.C. 27216-2122.

Glenn Eanes

GREENSBORO, N.C. —Glenn Elwood Eanes, 61, of 1612 Lucas Ave., died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, at the residence.
Born in Danville, he was a son of John Walter Eanes and Rada Hensley Eanes.
He was married icon to Nan Hicks Eanes, who survives. He was retired from Eanes Inc. and was a member of Lankford Memorial Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include two sons, Michael Eanes of Greensboro and Thad Roberts of Brown Summit; two daughters, Jennifer Parrish and Beth Wallace, both of Level Cross; two brothers, Wayne Eanes and Fredie Eanes, both of Danville, Robert Eanes of Blanche, Ernest Eanes of Sutherlin and Jimmie Eanes of Greensboro; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lankford Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Forbis and Dick North Elm Street Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice at Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, N.C. 27406

Ronald Giles

MOORESVILLE, N.C. —Ronald Allen Giles, 57, of West Center Avenue, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at the residence.
Born July 12, 1944, in Danville, he was a son of W.T. Bill and Erna Ferguson Giles.
He was married icon to Brenda Starnes Giles, who survives. He was a retired maintenance supervisor for the Matsushita Compressor Corporation of America. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and attended Eastside Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Robert Giles of Mooresville and Richard Giles of Largo, Fla.; two daughters, Ronda G. Remaden of Charlotte and Renee Summerville of Mooresville; one brother, Thomas Wayne Giles of Hampton; and 10 grandchildren.
The memorial service was held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Eastside Baptist Church with the Rev. Roger Wood officating.
The family suggests memorials be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 872, Mooresville, N.C. 28115.

John Hamlett

SEMORA, N.C. — John W. Hamlett, 89, of 692 Dotmond Road, died Aug. 12, 2001.
Born April 30, 1912, he was the son of Addison and Lucille Hamlet. He was a native of New York and Caswell County.
Survivors include one niece, Lorraine Stevens and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Oak Level A.M.E. Church with Pastor Daisy Long officiating.
The viewing will be held from 12-8 p.m. Thursday at Plenty Funeral Home.
Plenty Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Esther Haynes

PELHAM, N.C. — Esther Hamlett Scearce Haynes, age 65, of 2380 Chandler Mill Road, Pelham, North Carolina, died Friday afternoon August 10, 2001 at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North Carolina.
Mrs. Haynes was born in Caswell County, North Carolina on November 17, 1935, a daughter of the late Alex D. Hamlett and Lizzie Winstead Hamlett. She was married icon to Claude L. Haynes, Jr., who survives.
Mrs. Haynes had spent most of her life in Danville where she was a member of Stokesland Baptist Church, the Ladies Auxillary of American Legion Post # 1097, and the Ladies Auxillary of VFW Post # 647. She worked as a secretary for B & S Rentals before retiring.
Survivors in addition to her husband of the residence include two daughters: Sheila Pugh of Danville, and Sherrie Eanes and son in law Barry Eanes of Keeling, and four brothers: Malcolm Hamlett of Leasburg, North Carolina, and Alex Hamlett of Mebane, North Carolina, and James “Jim” Hamlett of Kernersville, North Carolina, and Berkley Hamlett of Burlington, North Carolina, and two sisters: Earline Oakley of Mebane, North Carolina, and Mary Prather of Danville, and six step sons, ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren, nine step grandchildren, and three step great grandchildren also survive.
She was predeceased by two sons, Ronnie Scearce and Tommy Scearce.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. J.C. Raper. Interment will follow at Schoolfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 3:30 P.M. - 5:00 P.M., and at other times at the residence and at the residence of her daughter and son in law, Sherrie and Barry Eanes, at 740 Brumfield Road, State Road 714 at Keeling.

William Stone

EDEN, N.C. — William “Bill” Howard Stone, 79, of 543 Mable Ave., died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, at Annie Penn Hospital.
Born in Henry County, he was a veteran of the United States Army.
Survivors include two sisters, Barbara Stone of Axton, Va. and Sue Turner of Danville, Va. and three brothers, George W. Stone of Reidsville, Randolph Stone of Martinsville, Va. and Curtis Stone of Eden, N.C.
He was predeceased by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
The graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Shiloh Primitive Baptsit Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Fair Funeral Home

George ‘Bay’ Briggs

YANCEYVILLE, N.C. — George Henry “Bay” Briggs of 257 Pine Drive, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at Caswell Alamance Hospice in Burlington.
A native of Caswell County, he was a son of Sidney Briggs and Ella Janie Pulliam Briggs.
He was married icon to Janie Oliver Briggs, who survives. He was a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Leasburg and a retired lumber company employee.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include two sons, George Henry Briggs Jr. of Hackensack, N.J. and Barney Briggs of Yanceyville; one daughter, Kim Briggs Carr of Burlington; three brothers, Joseph Briggs of Pleasant Grove, James Briggs of Yanceyville and Dennis Briggs of Burlington; two sisters, Lula Briggs of Burlington and Madline Briggs Fuller of Blanche; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Blackwell Baptist Church with the Rev. Everett Dickerson officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
The viewing will be held from 2-8 p.m. Saturday at Fulton Funeral Home.
The family will be at the residence.

Sarah Farmer

YANCEYVILLE, N.C. —Sarah Dameron Farmer, 80, of 1433 Foster Road, died Friday, August 24, 2001 after an extended illness at Genesis Nursing Center of Salisbury, N.C.
Mrs. Farmer, a native of Caswell County, was born June 23, 1921 to the late Currie L. Dameron and Loucille H. Dameron. She was preceded in death by her husband, S. Ryland Farmer and a grandson, Samuel M. Farmer.
Mrs. Farmer received her early education in the Caswell County Public Schools, and was a graduate of Greensboro College. She belongs to Prospect United Methodist Church, Emerson Society, N.C. Education Association, Caswell County Farm Bureau, and Greensboro College Alumni Association. In 1992, she retired from a career teaching with Washington County, Maryland, Reidsville City, and Caswell County Public Schools.
She is survived by her son, R. Lee Farmer and wife, Elizabeth M. Farmer of Yanceyville; daughter, Sarah F. Hensley and husband, Michael Hensley of Salisbury; grandchildren, Joshua Farmer of Cary, N.C., Cameron Farmer of Richmond, VA., and Samantha Hensley of Salisbury, N.C., sisters, Margaret D. Hatchett and husband W.H. Hatchett of Pelham, Nettie D. Blackwell and husband, James Y. Blackwell, Yanceyville, N.C.; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, August 27, 2001 at Prospect United Methodist Church with Pastors Joseph Lister, Brian Faggart and Cindy Lister presiding. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Marley Funeral Home 7:00-8:30 pm Sunday.
