A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hillside Memorial Park officiated by the Rev. Nancy Willard.
She is survived by two sons, David Jones and wife, Frances of Cary and Hiram Jones and wife, Peggy of Laurinburg; a daughter, Connie Dawes of Laurinburg; 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Born September 10, 1911 in Camden, SC she was a daughter of the late Owen D. and Mary Ella Williams Anderson and widow of the late Malcolm Hiram Jones. She was a former library technician at Scotland County Memorial Library and the DeTamble Library at St. Andrews. Josie was also a former choir member and Sunday school teacher at the First United Methodist Church.

Maxton - Miss Kathleen "Monk" Reese, 81, of 236 Cottingham st. died Friday, January 23, at Scotland Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Norvin Forester and Michael Creekmore. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Born December 10, 1922 in Scotland County, she was a daughter of the late James H. and Ava Mae Lovitt Reese. She was a retired inspector for Morgan Mills and J. Stevens and an active member of the First Baptist Church.
Visitaion will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium, Laurinburg.

Lonnie Thomas Sanford, Jr., age 88, a resident of Huntington Health Care in Burgaw died Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at Pender Memorial Hospital in Burgaw.
He was born on April 2, 1915 in Laurinburg, NC the son of the late Lonnie Thomas Sanford, Sr., and Ethel Blanche Stutts Sanford.
Tom was a faithful member of Masonboro Baptist Church where he was a member of the Addison Hewlett Sunday School Class. He was a member of Wilmington Lodge #319, AF&AM; and was retired from Kemper Insurance Company.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Marion Mintz Sanford; one son Tommy Sanford and wife Shelia of Tucson, AZ; one grandson, Lonnie Sanford and wife Kellie of Flower Mound, TX and one grand daughter Cheryl Sanford of Wilmington; four great grandchildren, Christian, Adam, Sarah, and Jake.
Three sisters, Bernice Smyre of Newton, NC, Edna Sanford of Virginia Beach, VA, and Bee Bullard of Laurinburg, NC.
James Parker Conklin

Laurinburg, NC - James Parker “Jim” Conklin, 70, of 12961 Montclair Ave. Laurinburg died Monday, December 1, in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Stewartsville Baptist Church with the Revs. Steve Owenby and Rev. Lewis McLean officiating.
Born July 29, 1933 in Alamance County, NC he was a son of the late Grover Cleveland and Carrie Ann Conklin. He was a member of Stewartsville Baptist Church for 33 years and a retired textile manufacturing manager.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Lowe Conklin; three sons, Steven Conklin of Laurel Hill, Gregory Conklin and Michael Conklin of Laurinburg; a daughter Lisa C. Strickland of Ash. Also surviving are his grandchildren James Steven Conklin II, Bryttney Nicole Conklin, Meghan Marie Conklin, Brandy Lynette Conklin, Tiffanie LeAnn Strickland, Gregory Ethan Cody Conklin, Elizabeth Ann Jones, Shawn Michael Conklin, Justin Parker Conklin; and one great grandchild Breden James Conklin.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 pm Wednesday at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.

Laurinburg, NC - Mrs. Congetta Zambelli Tommelleo, 91, of 12361 Appin Road died Tuesday, November 25, at her home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Vitus Church in New Castle, PA officiated by Rev. Fr. J. L. Bruney. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Mausoleum.
She is survived by her daughter, Lucille Jute and her husband, Frank of Laurinburg; two brothers, George Zambelli and Louis Zambelli of New Castle, PA; three grandsons, Kent Jute and wife, Suzanne of Keller, TX, Dr. Kurt Jute and wife, Valeriana of Laurinburg, and Kevin Jute of Ward, Colorado; two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andy Tommelleo; two brothers, Joseph Zambelli and Carmen Zambelli; and two sisters, Annabelle Angelucci and Rita Trace.
Born June 26, 1912 in San Guiliano, Caserta, Italy she was a daughter of the late Antonio and Maria Toscano. She was a member of St. Vitus Church and the Christian Mothers of the Church.

She is survived by a sister, Jeanette Lamb and husband, Art of Big bear Lake, CA; three sisters-in-law, Olis Stubbs of Laurinburg, Jackie Stubbs of Pensacola, FL, and Lorraine Stubbs of Hamlet.
Born June 12, 1912 in Marlboro County, she was a daughter of the late Arthur J. and Ada Zackary Stubbs. She attended Fletcher Memorial High School, graduated from Broughton High School in Raleigh and attended the University of South Carolina. She was formerly employed with Central Chevrolet in Columbia and Ft. Jackson Army Base.

He is survived by a sister, Ruth D. Wood of Douglasville and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Duncan was employed by Eastern airlines in Miami, Boston and Hartford for 36 1/2 years.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel officiated by the Rev. Dr. L. D. Kimrey and the Rev. Gene Gurley. Burial will follow in the Newton Cemetery near Bennettsville, SC.
She is survived by a son, Walter D. Nicholson, Jr. of Laurinburg; two daughter, Rebecca Wood of Fayetteville and Yvonne Caddell of Wilson; two sisters, Myra Epting of Cairo, GA and Helen Thomas of Panama City, FL; 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Born August 29, 1903 in Houston County, GA, she was a daughter of the late George Julian and Emma Lee Sawyer Murray and widow of the late Walter D. “Nick” Nicholson. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Miriam Nicholson. Mrs. Nicholson was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church since 1944.

Atlanta, GA - Mrs. Sarah Margaret Covington Lowry, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother died Thursday, November 6, in Atlanta, Georgia.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Hampton Goodman and husband, Allan of Atlanta, GA; her grandchildren, Neil and Katie Goodman of Atlanta, GA and Drs. Ann and Jon Bignault of Huntsville, AL; two great grandchildren, Sarah and Sophie Bignault also of Huntsville, AL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon A. Lowry.
Mrs. Lowry was born in Laurinburg, the daughter of the late Mary Frances and Hampton Covington. She lived many years in Henderson, NC and later in Kinston, NC where she was a member of the Queen Street Methodist Church.

Laurinburg, NC - Mrs. Marion Jones Reaves, 96, formerly of Wagram died Wednesday, December 3, at Scotia Village.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Morris Morgan Room, Scotia Village officiated by the Rev. Phil Barrineau.
She is survived by a sister, Martha J. Pratt of Scotia Village; two nephews, Lindsay P. Pratt, Jr. of Laurinburg and John Charles Pratt of Los Alamos, NM.
Born August 30, 1907 in Clay Hill, SC she was a daughter of the late Charles A. and Janie Hand Jones. Along with her husband she started Reaves Engraving in 1933. Marion was a former Sunday school teacher and Women’s Missionary Society member at Spring Hill Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Wagram Book Club, the Richmond Temperance Society, and the Extension Homemakers.
