Markeda Nordby, 36, died Feb. 11, 1998. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by McEwen Funeral Home in Monroe.

Cleamon Benton, 76, died Feb. 9, 1998. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by McEwen Funeral Home in Monroe.

Donald Joe Craig Sr., 61, of Marietta, Ohio, formerly of Monroe, died Sunday, February 8, 1998, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in McEwen Colonial Chapel in Monroe with Rev. David Stewart officiating. Entombment will follow in the Forest Lawn East Mausoleum. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at the McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe.
Mr. Craig was born November 19, 1936, in Union County, a son of the late James Clarence and Marie Long Craig. He was a truck driver for Yellow Freight Lines.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Charlotte Craig of Marietta, Ohio; son, Donald Joe Craig Jr. of Davidson, NC; daughters, Mrs. Deborah Berg of Pinllas Park, Fla., Miss Donna Jean Craig of Charlotte, Mrs. Gina Marie Neal of Matthews, Miss Erica Lyn Boyce of Charlotte; grandchildren, Ryan Paul Berg, Seth Franklin Boyce, Brittani Joelle Berg, Amanda Marie Neal; brother, Larry Craig of Monroe; sisters, Mrs. Sue Copeland and Mrs. Pam Surratt, both of Monroe.
Memorials may be made to Harris Hospice Unit, c/o Presbyterian Hospital, PO Box 33549, Charlotte, NC 28233-3549.
McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe is serving the family of Mr. Craig.

Gary Frederick Hollar, 54, died Feb. 8, 1998. Funeral is 4 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation is 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Drum Funeral Home in Conover.

Joseph Robert Patton, 65, died Feb. 8, 1998. Funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sossoman Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation is 6:30-8:30 Tuesday at the funeral home.

Johnathan R. Bond, 17, of 444 Sylvania Ave., died Feb. 5, 1998. Funeral is 10 a.m. Tuesday at Beasley's Chapel. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Frances Stone Barnes, 53, died Feb. 9, 1998. Funeral is 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wilkinson Funeral Home. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Earle W. Southworth, 90, died Sunday, February 8, 1998 at Carolinas Medical Center.
Mr. Southworth, a native of Essex, Connecticut, was born July 7, 1907. He was a longtime, faithful member of Third Presbyterian Church where he served as deacon and was a dedicated supporter. His lifelong job was with Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Co. where he served for 43 years as Office Manager.
Cherished in memory by his beloved wife of 65 years, Virginia Southworth, and his two dear daughters, Marcia Barber and Nancy Southworth, his only grandchild, Sandra Jean McCreary, and his loving great-grandson, Justin Earle McCreary, all of Charlotte, and nephew Earle Hutchings and niece Barbara Reeve, of Middletown, Connecticut, and several other nieces and nephews from the Raleigh, NC area.
McEwen Funeral Service West Chapel is entrusted with making the arrangements. A private memorial service is planned at Third Presbyterian Church with Reverend Doctor William Young officiating.
Memorials may be made in remembrance of Mr. Southworth, to Third Presbyterian Church, 4019 Central Ave., Charlotte, NC 28205.

Mr. Andrew Allen, Jr., 50, died Sunday, February 8, 1998 in Carolinas Medical Center. Funeral is 2:00 PM Wednesday at Jane M. Smith Memorial Church, Johnson C. Smith Univ. Campus., Charlotte, NC. Burial will be in Beatties Ford Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 1:00-2:00 PM Wednesday, February 11, 1998 at the church.
Mr. Allen was a graduate of Johnson C. Smith Univ., a US Air Force Veteran, and a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He was an 18 year employee of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, and was a Coach at Ranch Junior High School. Mr. Allen was a positive influence on every child he touched.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Byers Allen; stepson, Bryant Adams (Julie); father, Andrew Allen Sr.; mother, Marie Chisholm; brothers, Dr. Robert Allean (Deborah) of Stamford, Connecticut and Charlie Chisholm; sisters, Deanna Chisholm and Gwendolyn Chisholm; grandmother, Emmie Delaney.

Miss Tamara Gayle ``Tammy" Bernhardt, 39, died Feb. 9, 1998. Funeral is 3 p.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rockwell. Visitation is 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Powles Funeral Home.

Mrs. Doris Hunt Hawkins, 89, died Feb. 9, 1998. Funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation is 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Gladys Shinn Carter, 77, died Feb. 9, 1998. Funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Jackson Park United Methodist Church. Visitation is 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Whitley's Funeral Home.

Olivia McKinne Huske, 87, widow of Issac Hall Huske, died on February 8, 1998 at Sardis Nursing Home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.

Mr. Erik Simpson, 27, of 9523 Misenheimer Road, died Feb. 1, 1998. Funeral is 3 p.m. Tuesday at Long & Son Mortuary Chapel. Visitation is 2:30-3 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.

Mr. Hardin `'Junior" Strickland, Jr., 52, died Feb. 8, 1998. Funeral is 2 p.m. Wednesday at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Thelma Emma Jean Ollis Owens, 60, died Feb. 8, 1998. Funeral is 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gibbs Chapel Wesleyan Church, Morganton. Visitation is 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kirksey Funeral Home, Morganton.

Mrs. May M. Meadows, 89, of Charlotte, died Feb. 8, 1998. Arrangements will be announced by Lowe-Debord Funeral Home.

Lillian Floyd Petty, 78, died Feb. 9, 1998. Graveside service is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sandy Plains Baptist Church Cemetery. Lutz-Austell Funeral Home is in charge.

Mrs. Johnsie Bean Watson, 88, of Chadmere Living Center in Fort Mill, SC, formerly of Lenoir, died Monday, February 9, 1998 at Mecklenburg Health Care Center in Charlotte. She was born December 20, 1909 in Caldwell County to the late John S. and Florence Franklin Bean. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, John N. Watson and two grandchildren.
Mrs. Watson retired from Burke Yarn Company and was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Irene) Johnson of Yelm, Washington, Mrs. Howard (Norma Jean) Staley of Chattanooga (Harrison) Tennessee, Mrs. Arnold (Rebecca) Leonhardt of Charlotte; two brothers, Oscar Penley and James Penley, both of Glen Alpine; one sister, Mrs. Ruby Smith of Morganton; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 11, 1998 at 2 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Alan Craig. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home.

Kathleen H. Watts, 77, died February 6, 1998 at Northeast Medical Center after an extended illness. Private graveside services were held Sunday, February 8, 1998. Hartsell Funeral Home-Concord was in charge.

Oliver Curtis McLean, Sr., 79, of 4601 Fenton Drive, died February 9, 1998 at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Memorial service is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Born January 19, 1919 in Augusta, GA, he was the son of the late Oliver Percy and Margaret Beagle McLean. He was a retired Sales Representative for several companies, and a US Army veteran of WWII and Merchant Marine.
Survivors include two daughters, Anita McLean Ross of Charlotte and Libby McLean Bessent of Kannapolis; son, Oliver Curtis McLean, II of Dallas, TX; and four grandchildren, Brian, Chad, Andy, and Jay.

Mrs. Mildred McCubbins Wiles, 86, of Mooresville, formerly of Salisbury, died Feb. 7, 1998. Funeral is 2 p.m. Wednesday in Summersett Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation is 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Sylvia Nicholson died Feb. 9, 1998, at home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by McNeill Funerals.

Loretta Lynn Wagner, 24, of 2713 Dunkirk St. died Feb. 8, 1998. Funeral 2pm Wednesday at Sharon Baptist Church. Burial: Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis. Visitation 7-9pm today at Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord.

Robert Davis Sochan, 58, of 530 Telephone Exchange Rd. died unexpectedly Feb. 7, 1998. Memorial service is 4 p.m. Wednesday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel, Taylorsville, where visitation is 3-4 p.m. Wednesday.

John Duncan Campbell, 75, died Feb. 8, 1998. Graveside service was 3 p., m. Monday, Feb. 9, in Wilkes Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home, Chesterfield, was in charge.

Mrs. Ollie Mae Sanders of 2610 Rachel St. died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, at Presbyterian Hospital. Arrangements are incomplete. Grier Funeral Service is serving the family.

Mr. Eddie Lee Thompson of 5828 Goodman Rd. died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, at his residence. Arrangements are incomplete. Grier Funeral Service is serving the family.
