Karen Bingham ``Cookie" Scruggs, 44, of 920 Marietta St., died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998 at Presbyterian Hospital.
She was born in Mecklenburg County, daughter of the late John Henry Bingham, Jr. She was employed by Dixie Bearings in Charlotte in accounts receivable.
Mrs. Scruggs is survived by one son, Christopher Mark Scruggs of Charlotte; her mother, Ruth Pate Bingham of Charlotte; two sisters, Sandy Crump of Charlotte and Jackie Evans of Belmont.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998 at Mulberry Baptist Church in Charlotte with Rev. Jim Mack officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998 at Carothers Funeral Home in Mt. Holly.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Lupus Foundation, 101 Colville Rd., Charlotte, NC 28207.

Mr. Lloyd Aaron Baker, 60, of Charlotte, died Feb. 7, 1998 at Presbyterian Hospital.
Funeral service is Tues., Feb. 10, 1998 at St. Ann's Catholic Church. Interment is in Family Cemetery, in Coeburn, VA.
Mr. Baker was born in Coeburn, VA, graduate of Clintwood High School, and East Tennessee State University, a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, he was an accountant for Jeffrey Daniels. He was also employed at Southpark Belk Store. He was also a U.S. Army Veteran. He also worked for the Mecklenburg County finance dept. for 27 years.
Survivors include his brothers, Donald Baker of Smithfield, VA, James Baker of Williamsburg, VA, Phillip R. Baker of Coeburn, VA, Virgil Baker of Corapeake, NC; sister Mrs. Reva Baker of Coeburn, VA; a special friend, Gregory Frank, of Charlotte; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to St. Ann's Catholic Church, 3635 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28209.
Hankins & Whittington is serving the family of Mr. Baker.

Mrs. Mae Branch Hartis, 87, died Monday, February 9, 1998. Funeral is 3pm Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church. Visitation is 7-9pm today at Lady's Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lillie Wallace Watson, 80, died February 9, 1998.
Funeral is 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at First Original Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will be in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home, Chesterfield, SC.
Mrs. Watson was born in Ruby, SC, a daughter of the late Jim and Catherine West Wallace. She was a homemaker, a member of the First Original Freewill Baptist Church and was married icon to the late Ernest J. Watson.
Survivors include three sons, James Watson of Cheraw, SC, Larry Dean Watson of Chesterfield, SC, and Grady Watson of Columbia, SC; two daughters, Sarah Fudge of Rock Hill, SC, and Virginia Horton of North Myrtle Beach, SC; also 5 grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to First Original Freewill Baptist Church, c/o Rev. Wayne Perhealth, 6123 Rainwater Road, Wallace, SC 29596.

Mr. Clyde Honeycutt, 75, died Monday, February 9, 1998. Memorial Service is 6:30pm Wednesday at Sardis Baptist Church. Burial is 11am Wednesday at the church cemetery. McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe is in charge.

James ``Bill" P. Teal, 82, of Monroe, died Sunday, February 8, 1998 at Presbyterian Hospital in Matthews.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 11, at McEwen Mint Hill Chapel. Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. in Richmond County Memorial Park Cemetery in Rockingham, NC. The family will receive friends this evening from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Teal, a native of Anson County, was retired from Charlotte Pipe and Foundry Co. as a mechanic with over 20 years service. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during WWII.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Marie S. Teal; daughter, Sharon Team Terrmeier and husband, Charles of Allen, TX; son, James R. Teal and wife Joyce, of Matthews; one brother, Wayne Teal of Wadesboro; two sisters, Gertrude Martin of Batesburg, SC and Mabel Luther of East Rockingham, NC; 6 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans, 2017 Bay St., Charlotte, NC 28205.
McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel is serving the family.

Mr. Ivan Hammer Thompson, 85, of The Presbyterian Home of Hawfields, died Monday, February 9, 1998 after several years of declining health.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 1998 at 11 a.m. at the Graham Presbyterian Church and officiated by Dr. William c. Weckerly and Reverend Lou East. The family will receive friends at McClure Funeral Home in Graham on Tuesday, February 10, 1998 from 6-8 p.m.
Born in Snow Camp, NC on March 19, 1912, Ikie was the son of Calvin Hayes Thompson and Mattie Stuart Thompson, both deceased. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Jean Tate Thompson on January 22, 1998 and also by his elder daughter, Barbara Jean Thompson Stroud on January 25, 1970.
Mr. Thompson, who graduated from Guilford College, was a longtime employee of Green & McClure Furniture Co. retiring in 1977. He owned ``Country Crafts by Ike", a picture framing business which he closed in the early 90's. At Graham Presbyterian Church, he was a former elder and member of the Brotherhood Class. He was also a former member of the Graham Exchange Club. He will be especially remembered for his quiet and gentle nature, his deeply religious faith, his devotion to ``his three girls", his handcrafted furniture and frames, and his sense of humor which never failed him.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Elaine Thompson Drye and James Michael Drye of Mooresville, NC; grandchildren, Joshua Hayes Drye of Burlington, NC and Meredith Holland Drye, a student at the University of NC at Chapel Hill, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by all his brothers and sisters, Roy Thompson of Winston-Salem, NC, Paul Thompson of Snow Camp, NC, Cecil Thompson of Graham, NC, Flossie T. Moore, of Liberty, NC, Kathleen T. Whitehead of Snow Camp, NC.

Ruby Treece Blalock, 81, of 114 Flowers Road, died Feb. 9, 1998 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
A native of Stanley County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Paul P. and Maggie Burleson Treece. She retired after 48 years of service from R.L. Stowe Mills.
Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Montgomery of the home; three sisters, Esther Morgan, Estelle Gallimore, both of Albemarle, and Mary Martin of Belmont, NC; brother, Herman Treece of Belmont; and a number of nieces of nephews.
Graveside service is 1 p.m. Wednesday at Long Creek Cemetery, Dallas, NC, with Rev. Marvin Carson officiating. Visitation is 11:30-12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ward Funeral Home.

Wilma ``Mamaw" Mitchem Willis, 87, of 1336 Cherryville Hwy, died Feb. 9, 1998 at Lincoln Medical Center, Lincolnton, NC.
Born May 16, 1910 in Gaston County, NC, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Willis, her parents, Robert Wee Willis and Kay Beam Willis, son, Thomas ``Tom" Willis, and sister, Elsie Mitchem Rose. She was retired from Carlton Yarn Mill and was a homemaker. She was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Wilma `'Willie" Lavery and husband, Donald of Cherryville; daughter-in-law, Evelyn Patterson Willis of Charleston, SC; brother, Paul Mitchem and wife, Dorothy of Cherryville; grandchildren, Tom Willis, Rene Simmons, Robbie Willis, Donna Lavery, Barbara Hill, Anita Lowe, and Carol Ann Hoard; 7 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.
Funeral is 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Key officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Carpenter's Funeral Home.

Mr. William Clayton Walls of Wingate died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, at Union Regional Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete. Grier Funeral Service of Monroe is in charge.

Mildred ``Maggie" Powell Abernathy, 81, died Feb. 8, 1998. Entombment is 11 a.m. Wednesday in Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum, Morganton. Visitation is 7-8:30 p.m. today at Kirksey Funeral Home, Morganton.

Emma Kay Ward, 52, died Sunday, February 8, 1998. Funeral is 2 p.m.Wednesday at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Jessie Perry Jerkatis, 90, died Saturday, February 7, 1998 in Phoenix, AZ.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 11, 1998, 11:00 AM at Wilson Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and one half hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
Mrs. Jerkatis was a homemaker living in Homewood, IL. After 69 years, she returned `home' to Charlotte. Born in Anderson, SC, December 17, 1907, she was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Jerkatis, in 1980; and by her son, Mack Jerkatis, in 1986. She was also predeceased by her mother, Rose Nichols Perry, a sister, Lula Perry Harris, and a brother, Mack Perry.
Survivors include one daughter, Julie Mankus of Phoenix, AZ; one son, Robert L. Jerkatis of Peotone, IL; one sister, Ollie Mae Perry Alexandrini of Charlotte; 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 1 great great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are by Wilson Funeral Service, 5301 Albemarle Road.

Robert Guy Sweeney, 76, died Sunday, February 8, 1998. Funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pendry's Funeral Home Chapel. Burial at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. Visitation 7-8:30 p.m. at Pendry's Funeral Home.

Mrs. Eva Jones Goude, age 68, of 33 Lineberger St., died Sunday, February 8, 1998 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Catawba County, NC, daughter of the late Henry and Sarah Beal Jones. She was retired from American & Efird Mills in Mt. Holly.
Mrs. Goude is survived by 1 son, Wayne Goude of Lowell; 3 daughters, Jo Goude of Mt. Holly, Catherine Moore of Stanley, Teresa Anderson of Huntersville, NC.; 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday, February 11, 1998 at Carothers Funeral Home in Mt. Holly with Rev. Wayne Goude and Rev. Johnny Barker officiating. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery in Gastonia. The family will receive friends from 7-9 P.M. Tuesday, February 10, 1998 at Carothers Funeral Home in Mt. Holly and at other times will be at the home of her son Wayne Goude, 908 Lineberger St., Lowell.
