Mrs. Bessie Atkinson Skipper, 84, a resident of Brian Center Nursing Home in Gastonia, NC, formerly of Paw Creek, died Monday, May 11, 1998, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 1998, at Thrift Baptist Church, Charlotte, with Rev. Gene Lathan and Rev. Ray Pennell officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Charlotte. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, 1998, at Carothers Funeral Home, Mt. Holly.
Born in Camden, SC, Mrs. Skipper was daughter of the late M.H. and Janie Bostic Atkinson, wife of the late Daniel David Skipper and mother of the late Ruby Norton of Charlotte. She was retired from the textile profession and was a member of The Thrift Baptist Church where she was also a member of the TEL Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Skipper is survived by two sons, Dan Skipper of Charlotte, NC, and Ralph Skipper of Stanley, NC; four daughters, Evelyn Bradshaw of Stanley, NC, Revelene Schwartz of Asheville, NC, Earnestine Knight of Huntersville, NC, and Frankie Lockey of Charlotte, NC; 17 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3420 Shamrock Dr., Charlotte, NC 28215.

Mrs. Virginia Griffis Simmons, 78, of Huntersville, NC, died Monday, May 11, 1998, at the Huntersville Oaks Nursing Home.
Mrs. Simmons was born December 10, 1919, in Edgefield, SC, the daughter of the late Charles E. Griffis and Leila McGee Griffis. She was retired from the Sharon Memorial Park, Charlotte, as a sales counselor with over 10 years of service.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, 1998, in Sharon Memorial Park. Officiating will be the Rev. Harry Queen. The family will receive friends following the graveside service.
Surviving are two nieces, Mrs. Linda G. Brown of Charlotte and Mrs. Brenda G. Burr of Midlothian, Virginia.
Memorials may be made to the Oak Grove United Methodist Church Choir Fund, 6440 Old Statesville Road, Charlotte, NC 28269.

Amos Reid Smith, 89, died Tuesday, May 12, 1998 at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster, SC.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at Sharon Memorial Park.
Mr. Smith is survived by a step-son, Harry E. Moreland of Indian Trail.
Hankins & Whittington is serving the family of Mr. Smith.

Mr. Archie Shaw Knotts, 74, of Charlotte died Monday, May 11, 1998, at Presbyterian Hospital.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, 1998, at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Sunset Cemetery.
Mr. Knotts was born in Mecklenburg County, a son of the late Joe Grady Knotts and Rachel Hagler Knotts. A lifelong member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Juanita Watson Knotts, and retired from Coca-Cola Bottling Co. as vice president of production after 42 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Morris Knotts of the home; brothers, Joe F. Knotts and wife, Kathryn, and Zeb M. Knotts and wife, Ethlyn, all of Charlotte; sisters, Nell K. Marshall and husband, Roger of Camden, SC, and Nancy K. Scercy and husband, Pete, of Charlotte; stepchildren, Billy Joe Morris, Larry Morris and wife, Mary, and Donna Langley, all of Charlotte, and Renee Brown and husband, John, of Richmond, VA; 11 step-grandchildren; and 11 nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Hickory Grove United Methodist Church Chapel Fund, 6401 Hickory Grove Rd., Charlotte, NC 28215.

Robert Eugene Lail, 66, died May 12, 1998. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Cleveland Funeral Services of Shelby.

Mrs. Marjorie Holden Walser, 67, died May 12, 1998. Funeral is 3 p.m. Thursday at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. Greer-McElveen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Bobby Dean ``Stack" Martin, 43, died May 12, 1998. Graveside service is 2 p.m. Friday at Christian Fellowship Church Cemetery. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. Thursday at White Columns Funeral Service.

Mr. Johnny Davis, died May 11, 1998. Arrangements are incomplete. Smith Funeral Home, Wadesboro, NC, is in charge.

Mr. Owen C. Hill, 94, of 89 Eastcliff Drive, S.E., Concord, NC, died at 9:40 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, 1998, at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 15, 1998, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC, with the Rev. Robert Dodd and Sarah Weaver officiating. Interment will be in Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. Active pallbearers will be members of the J.T. Fesperman Y's Men's Club. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Bullock Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 1998, at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis, NC, and other times at the home of his son, Bob Hill, 803 Isabelle Street, Kannapolis, NC.
Born April 21, 1904, in Sumter County, GA, Mr. Hill was son of the late Clement and Eva Giles Hill. He was owner/operator of Hill's Clothing Store, Kannapolis, NC, from 1939 to 1971, and formerly one of a group of owners of Terry Products, Inc., Kannapolis, NC. He was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC, where he was active in all phases of church activities.
Mr. Hill was a past member of Kannapolis Lions Club, active member of the J.T. Fesperman Y's Men's Club and a former member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He was a resident of Kannapolis since 1939, moving here from Greensboro, NC, and was a veteran of the US Navy from 1922-1926.
Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his first wife, Edyth M. Hill, who died in 1971.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mickey Weatherly Hill; one son, Mr. Owen R. ``Bob" Hill of Kannapolis, NC; two daughters, Mrs. Marilyn H. Clayton of Charlotte, NC, and Mrs. Joan H. Barnhill of Harrisburg, NC; one sister, Mrs. Eva H. Etheridge of Americus, GA; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 416 E. First Street, Kannapolis, NC 28083.

Robert B. Tobias, 59, of 7826 Briardale Drive, Charlotte, died Monday, May 11, 1998. Arrangements are incomplete. Grier Funeral Service is in charge.

Ollie Walker Leak, 68, died Tuesday, May 12, 1998 at Anson County Hospital, Wadesboro, NC. Arrangements are incomplete. Smith Funeral Home is in charge.

Mr. Martin Odell Dulin Jr., 72, of Charlotte, formerly of 4448 Central Ave., died Monday, May 11, 1998.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 1998, at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church with Reverends Fred Jordan and John Bletsch officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends this evening from 7-9 p.m. at McEwen Charlotte Chapel.
Mr. Dulin, a native of Charlotte, was born July 4, 1925 to the late Martin O. Dulin Sr. and Shannon Abernethy Dulin. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during WWII in Company C, 1st Battalion, 289 Engineers. He worked in the hardware business at Dulin Hardware and Potts Hardware.
He was a lifelong member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church, past member of the Mecklenburg Saddle Club and the American Legion. Mr. Dulin was also an avid lover of horses which he enjoyed sharing with his family.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 55 years, Annie Ruth Dulin; children, Martin O. Dulin III and wife, Janet, and Carolyn Crump and her husband, Bobby; three grandchildren, Melissa Johnson and husband, David, Jennifer Dulin and Jonathan Dulin; two great-grandchildren, A.J. Johnson and Mackenzy Johnson; brothers, Walter Lee Dulin and Adrian Dulin; and sisters, Josephine Wike and Christine Morrison.
Memorials may be made to Hickory Grove United Methodist Church, 6401 Hickory Grove Rd., Charlotte, NC 28215; National Kidney Foundation of N.C., 5970 Fairview Rd., Suite 408, Charlotte, NC 28210; or the American Diabetes Association, 3109 Poplarwood Ct., Raleigh, NC 27604.

James Preston (J.P.) Henderson, 64, of Taylorsville died unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 12, 1998 at Alexander Community Hospital. He was born in Guilford County on Sunday, September 17, 1933 to the late Lealdon and Annie Finch Henderson. He was the retired plant manager of Carolina Container, Plant 3, Specialty Container Division, having served for almost forty years. He was a member of Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church in Bethlehem, a member of the Hibriten Masonic Lodge and the Foothills Shriner's Club of the Oasis Shriner's Temple of Charlotte. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Harris Henderson; two sons, James David Henderson and his wife, Joy of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Preston Henderson of Charlotte; one daughter and son-in-law, Jamie and Lanny Harrington of Taylorsville; one brother, Larry K. Henderson of High Point; three grandchildren, Todd Harrington, Tennille Henderson, Roslyn Henderson; two step-grandchildren, Bradley & Danielle McCrackin; a nephew, Kent Freeman and a number of other nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 7 to 8:30 pm at Alexander Funeral Service. The funeral will be conducted on Thursday, May 14, 1998 at 2:00 pm at Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church in Bethlehem by Rev. Ken Tonnesen.
Burial will follow in the Plesant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Alexander County. Pall Bearers will include Kenny Lingle, Mike Dugger, John Jackson, David Gragg, Jerry Bumgarner, and Tom Bumgarner. Memorials may be given to Blessed To Be A Blessing, Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church, 9379 NC Hwy 127, Hickory, NC 28601 or to the Shriners' Children's Hospital, c/o Oasis Temple, P.O. Box 560666, Charlotte, NC 28256-0666.

William Kaiser Wilson, 78, died Monday, May 11, 1998 at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle, NC. Arrangements are incomplete. Smith Funeral Home is in charge.

Joseph R. ``Joe" Rector, 64, died Tuesday, May 12, 1998. Funeral is 3 PM Thursday at Bethel United Methodist Church, Bethel Rd. Visitation is 7:30-9 PM Wednesday at Sossoman Funeral Home.

Helen Campbell Deadmon, 81, died Tuesday, May 12, 1998. Funeral is 11 AM Thursday at Summersett Memorial Chapel. Burial in City Memorial Park. Visitation 7-8:30 PM Wednesday at Summersett Funeral Home.

Mrs. Aronul E. Harris, formerly of Charlotte, NC, died Tuesday, May 12, 1998 in Atlanta, GA. Arrangements are incomplete. Family Mortuary Directors are serving the family.

Christine S. Bradshaw, 93, died Monday, May 11, 1998. Funeral is 2 PM Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Hudson. Visitation is 1-2 PM prior to the service at the church. Greer-McElveen Funeral Home is in charge.

John Baxter Penley, 78, died Monday, May 11, 1998. Funeral is 2 PM Thursday at Catawba Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation 1-2 PM Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Sarah Corinne Faulkenberry passed away Monday, May 11, 1998, at the Bethea Baptist Home.
Born in Horry County on July 8, 1918, she was the youngest child of the late Julius Thomas and Cora Virginia Harrellson Floyd.
With Double Majors and Double Minors, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Winthrop College in 1940.
Mrs. Faulkenberry was married icon to the late Doctor Woodrow Faulkenberry. She was a resident of Kershaw for more than fifty years. She was a dedicated educator, teaching at the Baron DeKalb School and Kershaw High School before her retirement.
Mrs. Faulkenberry is survived by her daughter, Sonya (Mrs. Michael) Martinkus of Lakeland, Florida; her son, Mr. Daryl W. Faulkenberry of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina; and her only grandchild, Virginia (Ginger) Corinne Poole, a Graduate Student at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.
Visitation with family will be Wednesday evening, May 13, 1998, at the Cauthen Funeral Home during the hours of 6-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be Thursday, May 14, 1998, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Kershaw, with burial in the Kershaw City Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to Bethea Baptist Home in Darlington, South Carolina.

Danny J. Stinson, 43, joined his mother, Helen (Jan. 11, 1998) on May 11, 1998.
He was born in Chicago, Ill. and lived most of his life in the Akron area. Danny was instrumental in the formation and operation of The Carroll House, a home for disabled veterans, since Jan. 1998.
Survived by daughter, Crystal, stepson, Ryan, both of Parma; brothers, David (Kathy) of Charleston, SC, Donald (Diana); father, Jackie R., both of Akron; Pam, DJ and many other nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and other relatives; friends, Danny Corcoran of Charlotte, NC, Jacko Logan and Thomas Kunkel, both of Akron; very special friend, Jerry Logan of Akron.
Friends may call at the Prentice Funeral Home, 1154 Kenmore Blvd., Akron (phone: 1-330-753-7721), 6-9 p.m. Thursday, where a service will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday.
The family suggests memorials to The Carroll House, 617 Carroll St., Akron, OH 44304.
