Jones, Herman Lewis
ROCK HILL - Mr. Herman Lewis Jones, age 85, of 3092 Coleman Court, Carolina Village, Rock Hill, SC, born July 10, 1915 in Orange Township, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, died February 12, 2001 at Carolina Village Health Care Center, Rock Hill, SC. She was daughter of the late Lewis W. Jones and Katherine Hist Jones.

Mr. Jones was a graduate of Kent State and Western Reserve Universities, serving for many years as a Science and Math Teacher and Administrator in the Secondary Schools of Ohio. During World War II he was an Operations Officer and Meteorologist with the USAAF in Canada and Alaska.

He moved to Florida in 1951 as Personnel Director for Garner Aviation Service Corporation at the Bartow Air Base, later working in the Technical Service Department of Automatic Machinery Corporation, retired in 1981. He just recently moved to Carolina Village, Rock Hill, SC.

A former member of the National Education Association, Ohio Secondary School Principals Association and Hillman Masonic Lodge of Youngstown, Ohio. He served on the Lake Alfred City Commission and was past President of the Lake Alfred Lions Club. Member of Grace Lutheran Church, past member of the Florida State Horticultural Society and an emeritus member of the Institute of Food Technologists.

Survivors are: wife, Margaret Kroeck Jones, Rock Hill, SC; daughter & son-in-law, Sharon & Ben Rawls, Lake Wylie, SC; granddaughter & grandson-in-law, Michelle & Kenneth Languedoc, Alpharetta, GA; grandson, Derek Rawls, Charlotte, NC; two great-grandchildren, Emily Nicole & Matthew James Languedoc, Alpharetta, GA.

Memorial service will be 10 AM, Thursday, February 15, 2001 at River Hills Community Church, Lake Wylie, SC, conducted by the Rev. Bruce Jones.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Community Care, 325 Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29732.

M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home, Clover, SC, is serving the family of Mr. Jones.

Scott, Charles Dawson
ROCK HILL - Mr. Charles Dawson Scott, 74, of 576 Saddlebrook Dr., Rock Hill, SC died Sunday, February 11, 2001 at his home.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

A native of Bloomfield, Iowa, Mr. Scott was a son of the late Harry S. Scott and Gael D. Case Scott. He was a retired Vice-President of Wells Fargo Bank and a member of Manchester Creek Community Church.

Surviving are his wife, Marguerite Gerdes Scott, of the home; daughter, Susanne Lujan of Rock Hill; one sister, Cara Watkins of Jamestown, Ca.; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 500 E. Morehead St., Charlotte, NC 28202.

Fort Mill Funeral Home is in charge.

James, William Charles
SALISBURY - William Charles James, 91, died February 12, 2001 at The Laurels. Memorial service will be held at a later date in Forest Hills, PA. Summersett Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Rimmer, John Thomas
SALISBURY - Mr. John Thomas Rimmer, 55, died Feb. 11, 2001, at his residence.

Funeral is 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rockwell with Rev. Bruce Sheeks, Pastor and Rev. Dr. Bill Mimms of Newton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Rimmer was born May 7, 1945 in Covington, KY, son of the late Rev. J. Paul and Eva Bess Rimmer of Cherryville. He was a 1963 graduate of East Rowan High School. He attended UNC at Chapel Hill and Lenoir-Rhyne College and graduate in 1968. He graduated from Southern Seminary in 1972.

Mr. Rimmer was former pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, East Spencer and was a school bus driver for nine years. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and a former member of the East Rowan Saddle Club.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Reeda Hampton Rimmer of Rockwell; son, Justin T. Rimmer of Salisbury; brother, Jerry Franklin Rimmer of Raleigh; and a sister, Jane Cadwallader of Conover.

Memorials may be made to Rowan Regional Medical Center Foundation Diabetic Fund, 118 E. Council St., Salisbury, NC 28144.

Baker, Miles L.
SHELBY - Mr. Miles L. Baker of White Oak Manor died Feb. 11, 2001. Arrangements are incomplete. Cleveland Funeral Service is in charge.

Leftwich, James Columbus
SHELBY - Mr. James Columbus Leftwich, age 83, died Sunday, February 11, 2001, at White Oak Manor in Shelby, NC. Mr. Leftwich was born on February 27, 1918, in Carroll County, Virginia. He was the son of the late Rebecca Bolen Leftwich and the Reverend Marcus Edward Leftwich. He was a United States Air Force veteran, having served for more than 20 years. Mr. Leftwich was a member of the First Baptist Church Shelby.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mrs. Gladys (Judy) Blanton Leftwich. Mr. Leftwich is survived by his sisters, Mrs. Jean Hamrick of Charlotte and Mrs. Addie Clarke of Mt. Holly. He is also survived by two nieces, Mrs. Jean Childers of Belmont and Mrs. Rebecca Van Dyke of Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

Services will be held in Shelby at Lutz Austell Funeral Home at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 14, 2001. The family will receive guests thirty minutes before the services. Rev. Tony Tench will be officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First Baptist Church, Shelby, NC 28150, 120 N. Lafayette St.

Peterson, Ms. Martha M.
ST. AUGUSTINE, FL. - Ms. Martha M. Peterson, 58, died Thursday, February 8, 2001. Memorial service was held on Sunday. Visitation is 2-4 PM, Saturday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro.

Hollar, Loyd "Babe"
STATESVILLE - Mr. Loyd "Babe" Hollar, 64, died Sunday, February 11, 2001. Funeral will be held 3pm Wednesday at Bethel Lutheran Church, Claremont. Visitation Monday 6:30-8:00pm at Reavis Funeral Home in Statesville.

Mrs. Bernice Dagenhart Hoffman
TAYLORSVILLE - Mrs. Bernice Dagenhart Hoffman, 76, died February 12, 2001. Funeral 3pm Wednesday at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel. Burial at Carpenters Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation 2-3pm Wednesday at Stamey Funeral Home.

Brain, Clifford Lewis
WADESBORO - Rev. Clifford Lewis Brain, 88, died Sunday, February 11, 2001 in Union Regional Medical Center in Monroe.

He was born in Perry, NY July 24, 1912, a son of the late Charles and Carrie Wilson Brain.

A retired Baptist minister, Rev. Brain served congregations in Lancaster, PA, Washington, DC, New Castle, DE, Hermitage, NY, Batavia, NY, and East Earl, PA. He was a graduate of Philadelphia Bible Institute and later served as Dean of Students at Elohim Bible Institute in Castile, NY.

After retiring from the ministry, Rev. and Mrs. Brain relocated to Leesburg, FL and later to Wadesboro, NC.

Funeral services for Rev. Brain will be 2:00pm Wednesday, February 14, 2001 in Mt. Beulah Baptist Church, of which he was a member, with Rev. Earl Henry officiation. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will greet friends this evening (Tuesday) 6-9pm at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, George and Pat Slatt, 1401 Lord Anson Drive, Wadesboro, and Wednesday, 1-1:45pm in the sanctuary prior to the service.

Surviving are his wife, Onalee Edwards Brain; his children, Mrs. Patricia Slatt of Wadesboro, Mrs. Barbara Jolly of Shelby and Roger Brain of Delhi, NY; 8 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Gideons International, Anson Camp, P.O. Box 904, Wadesboro, NC 28170.

The arrangement are in care of Leavitt Funeral Home.

Williams, Nellie Pursley
YORK - Nellie Pursley Williams, 77, of 8014 Park Place Rd., York, SC died Monday, February 2, 2001 at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, NC.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, February 14, 2001 at York Church of God, York, SC, with Rev. Donald Hawkins officiating, assisted by Revs. Bart Plaxco and Matthew Kimbrell. Burial will be in Woodlawn Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Sharon, SC. The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at Bratton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Williams was a native of York Co., SC, daughter of the late Milton M. Pursley and Effie Jane Bolin Pursley, widow of the late Samuel Saye Williams, Sr. She was retired from Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co.; was a homemaker; member of the Young at Hearts of York Church of God, where she was also a member.

Surviving her are one son, Samuel S. "Bud" Williams, Jr. of York, SC; two daughters, Jane Williams Kimbrell of Rock Hill, SC, Frances Williams Broome of Long Beach, NC; one brother, E.M. "Sonny" Pursley of Hickory Grove, SC; two sisters, Margaret P. Childers, Lula P. Childers, both of Hickory Grove, SC; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
