Andrew “Drew” Earl Butler

Laurinburg

Andrew “Drew” Earl Butler, 43, formerly of Laurinburg, died Thursday, September 30, 1999 at his home in Forest Park, GA.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 PM in the Sneads Grove United Methodist Church in Laurel Hill, NC with Rev. James F. Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.

Born August 11, 1956 in Laurinburg, Drew was preceded in death by his father, Earl Franklin Butler. Drew served as a clerk in the transportation department at Fort Gillem Military Base in Georgia.

He is survived by his mother, Catherine Butler Evans of Laurinburg and her husband Carroll H. Henderson; two sisters, Jennifer Pregge and her husband Louis of Charlotte, and Dawn Pressley and her husband Tony of Monroe; one niece Lauren Pregge of Charlotte; his grandmother, Alma Butler of Laurinburg.

The family will be receiving friends from 7:00 to 9:00 PM Tuesday at McDougald Funeral Home in Laurinburg.

Jennie Przybysz Mathes

Laurinburg, NC

Mrs. Jennie Przybysz Mathes, 81, of 1208 Charles Drive died Thursday, September 30, at her home.

Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. Wil I. Jackson. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.

She is survived by he husband, Norman Henry Mathes, Sr.; a son Norm Mathes of Laurinburg; a sister, Victoria Bombara of New Hartford, CT; three granddaughters, Betsy Mathes of Cary, Paige Mathes of Boone, and Leann Mathes of Laurinburg.

A former resident of Bristol, CT, she and her family moved to Laurinburg in 1959. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where she served on the Worship Committee and was a circle member.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 101 W. Church St., Laurinburg, NC 28352.

Visitation will be 7 – 9 p.m. Friday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.

Mary Holcomb Stubbs

Laurinburg

Mrs. Mary Augusta Holcomb Stubbs, 80, formerly of Laurinburg died Wednesday, September 15, at the Bryan Center in Charlotte.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.

Geraldine E. Paquette
March 18, 1920 - September 27, 1999
Services: September 30, 1999
Geraldine R. (Coburn) Paquette, 79, formerly of 241 Pine Street, died September 27, 1999 at Hillsborough County Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Manchester of March 18, 1920, the daughter of Charles and Jenney (Campbell) Coburn and had been a lifelong resident of the City. She was a parishioner of St. Patrick Church. She had worked at J.F. McElwain Company. She was the widow of Wilfred Paquette who died in 1977.

Family members include one son, Ronald Paquette of Manchester; four daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Janice) St. Hilarie of Manchester, Mrs. Edward (Gertrude) Miller of Laconia, Mrs. Albert (Gloria) Willett of VT and Mrs. Robert (Helen) Kerry of Hooksett; 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday morning at 10:00 in St. Patrick Church. Urn burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 360 Route 101, Unit 501, Bedford, NH 03110. The Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium is in charge of arrangements.

LEXINGTON - Howard Neal Pete Woodall, 65, died Saturday. Funeral is 2 p.m. Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Edwards, Harold Michael
LINCOLNTON - Mr. Harold Michael Edwards, 59, of 427 Abbey Park Lane in Lincolnton died Saturday at Duke Medical Center in Durham.
Mr. Edwards was born on December 6, 1940 in Pensacola, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents Capt. Harold Knox and Elinor Bender Edwards. During the course of his life, he enjoyed a successful career in sales. Mr. Edwards was a Marine Corp Veteran, and the winner of the Leatherneck award at Paris Island. He was a member of the Sherrills Ford Lions Club, and a member of the Lincolnton Chapter of the American Legion.

Survivors include, wife, Mrs. Bonnie Rae Shaw Edwards of the home, four daughters, Mrs. Lee Crowell, Mrs. Holly Crowe, Miss K.C. Edwards, and Miss Kim Edwards all of Northern Virginia, one brother, Bruce T. Edwards of Virginia, one sister Mrs. Caroline Esfandiari of Mountain View, California, and granddaughter Miss Elle Hayes.

An open house is planned for Monday, August 14, 2000 from 7-9 pm at the Edwards family home. A memorial service will be Tuesday, August 15, 2000 at 11:00 am in the Boger City United Methodist Church. The Rev. Lynne Caldwell, the Rev. Joey Byrd, and the rev. Carol Byrd will officiate.

Memorials may be made to Duke University medica Center Foundation, Lincoln Medical Center Foundation 200 Gamble Dr., Lincolnton, NC 28092, or to the church of the doors choice.

MARION - Gertrude Thomas Mortensen, 94, died August 13, 2000. Funeral is 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 15, 2000 at Westmoreland Chapel. Visitation is Tuesday from 2-3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jenkins, James David `Jim'
MONROE - Mr. James David `Jim' Jenkins, 58, of 1908 Rocky RIver Road S., died August 11, 2000. He was born February 13, 1942 in Rock Hill, SC to the late William Grier Jenkins, Jr., and Lottie Beam Jenkins of Clover, SC. Mr. Jenkins was a partner in Southeastern Mobile Home Movers of Monroe, NC. He was an Army Veteran and served 3 tours in Vietnam.
Survivors include, longtime and faithful companion, Debra Taddlock of Monroe; two daughters, Cathy Connell of York, SC and Sandy Stephenson of Rock Hill, SC; two step daughters, Stephanie Rodgers of Conway, SC and Crystal Taddlock of Monroe, NC; three sons, James David Jenkins, Jr., of Catawba, SC, Patrick Jenkins of Rock Hill, SC and Michael Paul Jenkins, of Myrtle Beach, SC; mother, Lottie B. Jenkins, of Clover, SC; one sister and brother-in-law, Diane J. and Fred L. Dover, Clover, SC, and ten grandchildren.

Funeral is 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 15 at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home, Clover. The Rev. Harry Bryant will officiate. Graveside service is 4 p.m. Tuesday at Lakeland Memorial Park. Visitation is 7-9 pm Monday at the funeral home and other times at the home of Diane Dover, 1475 Ole Cambridge Dr., Clover, SC.

MONROE - Mr. Theodore J. Price, 88, died Sunday, August 13, 2000. Visitation is 7-9 tonight at the McEwen Funeral Home. Funeral is Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the Lakeview Baptist Church.

MONROE - Mrs. Christine Tarlton, died Saturday, August 12, 2000. Funeral arrangements are still incomplete at this time and will be announced later by the McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe.

MORGANTON - Texanna Sowers Condrey, 86, died Sunday. Funeral is 2 p.m. Tuesday at McCall Memorial Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home. Visitation is one hour prior to service.

Stegall, Kenneth Lee
MYRTLE BEACH - Kenneth Lee Stegall, of 8075 Highway 814, Myrtle Beach, died Saturday, August 12, 2000 at Conway Hospital in Conway, SC.

Son of Mrs. Janet Stegall and the late Linson Lee Stegall I, Mr. Stegall was born June 14, 1947 in Ohio. Mr. Stegall was a former resident of Fort Mill, SC and an avid fan of NASCAR Auto Racing.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, August 15, 2000 at Wolfe Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Mill, SC. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Park.

Mr. Stegall is survived by a son, Linson Lee Stegall II of Myrtle Beach, SC; four daughters, Janet Lynn Stegall of Wilmington, NC, Dody Martin of Myrtle Beach, SC, Natalie Stegall of Charlottesville, VA and Kitty Ellis of San Francisco, CA; his mother, Janet Stegall of Stokesdale, NC; two brothers, Mark Stegall of Danville, VA and Gary Stegall of Conway, SC; a sister, Lynn Stegall of Memphis, TN: and a grandson, Julious Martin of Myrtle Beach, SC.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m., Sunday, August 13, 2000 at Wolfe Funeral Home in Fort Mill, SC.

Whitley, Hugh Daniel
NORWOOD - Hugh Daniel Whitley, 84, of 12293 Old Aquadale Road, died August 12, 2000. He was born in Stanly County, NC on July 10, 1916 to the late Mary Smith Whitley and Sylvanus H. Whitley. He was a veteran of the US Navy and was retired from Carolina Solite. He was a member of Aquadale Baptist Church. He was active at Aquadale Baptist Church as long as his health permitted. He was a past Sunday School teacher, Deacon, and choir member.

The funeral service will be 4:00 p.m. Monday, August 14, 2000 at Aquadale Baptist Church by the Revs. Robert Ellis and Sid Martin. Burial will be in Aquadale Baptist Church Cemetery, Norwood. Visitation was 7-9 p.m. Sunday, August 13, 2000 at Hartsell Funeral Home-Albemarle.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Julia Greene Whitley of Norwood, NC; daughters, Diane Burleson of Matthews, Marsha and her husband Sid Martin of Norwood, NC; son, David and his wife Lynn Whitley of Albemarle, NC; sisters, Lillie Belle Morton of Albemarle, NC and Annie Lee Poplin also of Albemarle; brother, Roberdell L. Whitley of Summerville, SC and step brother, Clarence Smith of Apple Valley, CA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Scott, Stephen and Andy Burleson; Chris and Jason Whitley; Susan Griffin; and Gregg Martin and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his step mother, Flora Thompson Whitley, brothers, Marvin, Ernest, Glenn Whitley and a granddaughter, Laurie Martin.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Stanly County, 960 North First Street, Albemarle, NC 28001.

The family will be at his home, 12293 Old Aquadale Road, Norwood, NC.
