LANCASTER - Mr. William Edward `Bill' Hines, 75, died Saturday. Funeral is 10 a.m. Monday, August 7, 2000 at Hartley Funeral Home. Visitation is 6-7 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.

McLean, Carrie Mae
LAUREL HILL - Mrs. Carrie Mae McLean, 70, died Thursday. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at St. Mary's A.M.E. Zion Church. Morris Funeral Home is serving the family.

McAllister, William Henry
LINCOLNTON - Mr. William Henry McAllister, 89, of 206 Lake Sylvia Road in Lincolnton died Friday, August 4, 2000.

A graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the Hollybrook Cemetery with the Rev. Linda Stack-Morgan officiating.

Mr. McAllister was born on December 24, 1910 in Lincoln County to the late Marion and Sarah Eurey McAllister and was preceded in death by his wife, Dora Lewis McAllister. He worked in the textile industry.

Survivors include, two daughters, Marie M. Carpenter of Crouse, Elsie E. McAllister of Lincolnton; two grandsons, Billy Carpenter of Charlotte and Rusty Carpenter of Crouse.

Warlick Funeral Home of Lincolnton is serving the family.

Crooke, Mary Craig
LOWELL - Mary Craig Crooke, 72, of 310 East First St., died Friday, August 4, 2000 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Crooke was a native of Gaston County, daughter of the late Alfred C. and Maryella Catherine Jarrett Craig. She was a Charter member of The Presbyterian Church of Lowell and was retired from Dillard's Department Stores.

Survivors include her son, Paul Crooke of Lowell, daughters Beth Crooke of Rock Hill, Susan Craig Crooke of Gastonia, sister Barbara C. Mills of Lowell, and granddaughter, Sarah Kathleen Hadlock of Gastonia.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 8, 2000 at 4:00 p.m. at THe Presbyterian Church of Lowell. The Rev. Tim Arnold will be officiating.

Visitation will be held Monday, August 7, 2000 from 6-8 p.m. at the family residence, 310 East First St. Lowell.

Burial will be private.

Memorials may be made to The Presbyterian Church of Lowell, PO Box 518, Lowell, NC 28098.

McLean Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

Haynes, Jimmy Alvin
MARION - Jimmy Alvin Haynes, 51, died Saturday. Funeral is 2 p.m. Tuesday in the McCall Memorial Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home. Visitation is 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home Monday.

Smith, John P.
YORK - Rev. John P. Smith, age 80, died Thursday, August 3, 2000. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, August 6, 2000 at Hillcrest Baptist Church. Visitation is 7-9 PM Saturday at Bratton Funeral Home.

Ammons, Percy
WAGRAM - Mr. Percy Ammons, 82, died Saturday. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Montpelier Presbyterian CHurch. Visitation is 7-9 tonight at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium in Laurinburg.

Leak, Ada Gaddy
WADESBORO - The Rev. Mrs. Ada Gaddy Leak, 101, of 740 Thomas St., died August 4, 2000 at her home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Smith Funeral Home.

Johnson, Ray Alexander
TAYLORSVILLE - Ray Alexander Johnson died Saturday, August 5, 2000. Graveside service is 2 p.m. Monday at Conover City Cemetery. Visitation is at the cemetery following the service.

Sullivan, Dorothy Jones
STATESVILLE - Mrs. Dorothy Jones Sullivan, 69, of Statesville died August 4, 2000 at Maple Leaf Health Care Center.

Mrs. Sullivan was born on December 15, 1930 in Macon, Georgia a daughter of the late Paul Sevier Jones and Dorothy Love Weaver Jones. She was raised in Asheville, NC and graduated from the Montreat Prep School in Montreat, NC and attended Duke University.

Mrs. Sullivan worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, DC and then served as the Secretary/Treasurer for the Asheville Tourists during her father's ownership of the team. After her marriage and relocation to Statesville, Mrs. Sullivan taught in the Statesville City Schools and later joined Hunter Realty. Mrs. Sullivan was named Realtor of the Year in 1985. She was a devoted reader and an avid bridge player. She enjoyed golf and made a hole-in-one at the Statesville Country Club. Through her membership in the Order of the Eastern Star, she served as Mother Advisor for the Statesville Order of the Rainbow for 15 years.

She is survived by her husband, Scott Sullivan, also of Statesville, and their two children, Emmett Scott Sullivan and his wife, Jennifer and Amy Louise Sullivan all of Charlotte, four grandsons and one granddaughter; Nicholas, Casey, Witt, and Murray Sullivan and Madeline Sullivan. Also surviving are one brother, Paul seveir Jones of Ellicott City, Maryland and one aunt, Betty Weaver Nichols of Asheville, NC. The family will receive friends from 3 until 5 p.. today (Sunday) at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Green Hills Cemetery in Asheville, NC.

For those who prefer, memorials may be given for Breast Cancer Research through the Greater Statesville Area Unit of the American Cancer Society, PO Box 493 Statesville, NC 28687. Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.

Jordan, Audrey Lea Lunsford
STATESVILLE - Audrey Lea Lunsford Jordan, 70, died Saturday, August 5, 2000. Funeral is Monday, August 7 at New Prospect Baptist Church. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Sunday, August 6 at New Prospect Baptist Church.

Harris, Betty Ann Nance
STATESVILLE - Mrs. Betty Ann Nance Harris, 43, died Friday. Funeral is 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation is 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Fletcher, Karan Theresa Zissette
STANLEY - Karan Theresa Zissette Fletcher, 42, of 2448 Ridgecrest Dr. in Stanley died August 2. Her funeral was Saturday, 11am, in Warlick Funeral Home Chapel, burial was Saturday, 3pm, at Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation was Friday at Warlick Funeral Home, also in charge.

Mrs. Fletcher was born on January 24, 1958 in Rickland Co., SC and was preceded in death by her father, Eddie Zissette, Jr. She was an accountant.

Survivors include her husband, David C. Fletcher of the home; mother, Ruby Fletcher of Camden, SC; one daughter, Desiree Natasha Fletcher of the home.

Howlett, Lewis Granville
SPARTANBURG - Lewis Granville Howlett, 94, died August 4, 2000 in Skylyn Place Health Center. A native of Jackson, TN, he was the husband of the late Anita Herron Howlett, and son of the late Erbie and Pattie White Howlett. He was a resident of lake Greenwood and Ninety Six SC from 1974 to 1992. He was a retired sales manager for Federated Insurance Company of Owatonna, Minnesota. He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church of Spartanburg and was a former member of the Tennessee National Guard.

He is survived by two sons, Granville Wayne Howlett of Charlotte, NC, Mitchell Herron Howlett of Spartanburg; a sister, Esther Allen of Atlanta, GA; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m., , Sunday, August 6, 2000 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Graveside service will follow at 3 pm, Sunday in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Harry R. Stullenbarger.

Memorials may be made to: St. James United Methodist Church Van Fund, 213 Lanford Road, Spartanburg, SC 29301.

The family is at the home of a son, Mitchell H. Howlett, 304 Londonberry Dr., Spartanburg.

Hamrick, Chesley Lemuel
SHELBY - Mr. Chesley Lemuel Hamrick, 63, of 1118 Costner Road, died August 4. He was born August 18, 1936 to Beatrice Hendrick Hamrick of the home and the late Sherrill Hamrick Sr. He is survived by his brother Sherrill Hamrick, Jr. of North Augusta, SC and sister, Cynthia Hamrick of Shelby. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

The funeral is Sunday, 4:30pm, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, burial is in the church cemetery. Visitation was Saturday, 6:30-8:00pm, at Stamey Funeral home, also in charge.

Collins, Margie Christine Watkins
RURAL HALL - Margie Christine Watkins Collins, 68, died August 4, 2000. Funeral is 11 a.m. Monday at James C. Lyerly Chapel. Visitation is 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Lyerly Funeral Home.

Cozzen, Raymond Blanco
ROCKWELL - Raymond Blanco Cozzen, Jr., 79, died August 4, 2000. There will be no services. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Park Mausoleum in Winter Park, FL.

Thomas, Elsie M.
ROCKINGHAM - Mrs. Elsie M. Thomas, 72, died August 4, 2000. Arrangements are incomplete at Nelson Funeral Home.

Hunt, Louie Bliss
ROCKINGHAM - Louie Bliss Hunt, 88, died Friday, August 4, 2000. Funeral arrangements are incomplete with Carter Funeral Home of Rockingham.

Bryant, Catherine C.
ROCKINGHAM - Catherine C. Bryant, 76, died August 4. The funeral is Monday, 4pm, at Church of God of Prophecy. Visitation is 7-8:30, Sunday, at the Church. Carter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Sims, William `Bill` Martin
ROCK HILL - William `Bill` Martin Sims, Sr., 57, of 2960 Sims Rd., died August 4. Graveside Services will be held Sunday, 3pm, at Grandview Memorial Park with the Rev. Donald Scoggins officiating. Visitation was Saturday, 7-9pm, at Bass Funeral Home; whose also handling arrangements.

Born in Rock Hill, SC he was the son of the late Emmett F. Sims and the late Carolyn Lorraine Kimbrell Sims. Mr. Sims retired from Rock Hill Printing and Finishing as a Master Electrician. Mr. Sims was a Navy Veteran and member of Masonic Lodge #111. He was an avid gardner and farmer.

He is survived by his wife, Angie Snider Sims and five sons, William Martin Sims, Jr. of Hickory Grove, SC, Daniel Scott Sims of Rock Hill, Chris Glenn Sims of Rock Hill, Shawn Christopher Snider of Rock Hill and Samuel Shane Bush of Rock Hill and 10 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, August 5, 2000 at Bass Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul Presbyterian Church, 1710 Meadow Brooks Rd., Chester, SC 29706.

Martin, Donnie Allan
PINEVILLE - Donnie Allan Martin, 51, of 141 Tasman Lane, Pineville, SC, died August 5, 2000 in Berkeley Co., SC. Born in Anderson, SC, he is the son of Mary L. Wilkins of Blacksburg, SC; and the late Frank J. Martin. He was retired from the city of Charlotte, NC; and was a member of Skull Shoals Baptist Church, Gaffney, SC. He was an army veteran serving in Germany. He was a member of the Steele Creek Masonic Lodge #737 in Charlotte, NC.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Ashley Martin, Belmont, NC, one sister, Barbara Heckley, Sarasota, FL, in addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his step-father, Johnny C. Wilkins.

The family will be at the home of his mother, 101 N. Chester, St., Blacksburg, SC.

White Columns-Blacksburg, SC is serving the Martin Family.

PINEHURST - W. John Johnson, died Friday, August 4, 2000. Funeral is 11 a.m. Monday, August 7, 2000 at the Village Chapel in Pinehurst. Boles Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.

Baumgaertner, Anna
OAK PARK, IL - Anna Baumgaertner, 87, died Friday, August 4, 2000 at her home in Oak Park. She was born October 13, 1912 in Richmond, VA. She was survived by one son, Martin (Jill) of Oak Park; one daughter, Marcia (John) Petty of Fairfax, VA; five grandchildren, Benjamin, Karla, and Clinton Petty and Martin and Anna Baumgaertner; one brother, Carl Nolde. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Reverend Martin Baumgaertner.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in River Forest, Illinois. She had resided in Oak Park for the past five years. She was a former resident of Charlotte.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church. Graveside services at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 8 at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, North Carolina.
