Taylor, Ruth Seabrooks
Mrs. Ruth Seabrooks Taylor, 86, of Charlotte, died Saturday, August 5, 2000 at Mercy Hospital Main. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2000 at Oaklawn Cemetery with the Reverend Stanley Spence officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.

A native of Charlotte, Ruth was a lifetime employee of Lance Inc. She was also very involved with her church as well as many friends. Ruth was an avid reader and enjoyed needlepoint and all hand crafts.

Survivors include, son, Robert E. Taylor of Albequerque, N.M.; a sister, Dorothy S. Stanley of Charlotte; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church, 1117 South Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203. Arrangements are in the care of Hankins and Whittington, Dilworth Chapel, 1111 East Blvd.

ALBEMARLE - Ralph Bennett Causby, 90, died Sunday, August 6, 2000. Funeral is 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2000 at First Baptist Church of Albemarle. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Hartsell Funeral Home-Albemarle.

CHESTERFIELD - Mr. William L. Lewis, 71, died Sunday, August 6, 2000. Visitation will be Monday, August 7, 2000 7-9 p.m. at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home, who will announce the Funeral Arrangements.

Casper, Mary Bernice Blakwelder
CONCORD - Mary Bernice Blakwelder Casper, 88, died August 5, 2000. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. Monday at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis.

Wyatt, Willie Gray (Billie)
CONCORD - Mrs. Willie Gray (Billie) Wyatt, 74, died Sunday. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Hartsell-Concord Chapel.

CONNELLY SPRINGS - Mrs. Octa S. Pugh, 91, died August 6, 2000. Funeral is 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2000 at Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service. Visitation is 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, August 7, 2000.

Duncan, James Dennis
DALLAS - James Dennis Duncan, 50, 3523-2 Cloninger Ave., died Friday, August 4, 2000 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

A native of Aiken County, SC, he was the so of the late Walter Ligon and Patricia Judy Ferguson Duncan and a member of Victory Hill Baptist Church in Dallas. He was preceded in death by two sisters Faith Lewis Williamson and Belinda Verbel.

Surviving are five brothers and four sisters-in-law Larry and Emily Duncan of Gastonia, Walter and Christa Duncan of Loris, SC, Gary and Rita Duncan of Dallas, a George Lewis and Mary of Crossville, TN, and Johnny Duncan of Gastonia, two sisters and a brother-in-law, Barbara Duncan of Dallas, Judine and David Ray Bailey of Atlanta, GA.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Hardin Baptist Church Cemetery. Dallas Fuenral hoe is serving the Duncan family.

Garrison, Nellie Mae Jenkins
DALLAS - Mrs. Nellie Mae Jenkins Garrison, 61, 3401 Philadelphia Church Road, died August 6, 2000 at her residence. Mrs. Garrison was a native of Gaston Co and the daughter of the late Mack Berry and Edna Whitlock Jenkins. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Garrison is survived by her husband of 44 years, Ernest `Bill' Garrison, Jr, of the home, sons and daughters in law, Danny and Linda Garrison, Dallas; Evan and Shea Garrison, Dallas' daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Todd Hunt, Clover, SC; Shana and Scott Hayes, Grover, NC; Cindy Lambert, Dallas and Gail `Tootie' Garrison of the home, brother, Andrew `Dickie' Jenkins, Dallas, NC; sisters, Jean Propst, June `Pete' Mulwee, Linda `Doodle' Radford, Pat `Cotter' Propst, and Kathy `Pumpkin' Propst, all of Dallas, NC, eleven grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2000 at 2 p.m. at Hardin Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Fain Farmer. Burial will be at Long Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Dallas. The Family will receive friends at Dallas Funeral Home, Monday evening, 7-8:30 p.m. and other times at the residence.

Memorial may be made to Hospice of Gaston County, PO Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28052.

ELLERBE - Katie H. White, 85, died Saturday. Graveside service is 4 p.m. Tuesday at Ellerbe Cemetery. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Carter Funeral Home.

Baskin, G.W. `Butch'
FOREST CITY - Mr. G.W. `Butch' Baskin, 94, died Sunday, August 6, 2000. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced alter by the Padgett and King Mortuary.

Rhodes, Brandon
FOREST CITY - Brandon Rhodes, 12, died Thursday, August 3, 2000. Funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2000 at McMahan's Funeral Chapel. Visitation is 6-9 p.m. tonight at McMahan's Funeral Home.

Best, Jo Ford Brumley
GASTONIA - Mrs. Jo Ford Brumley Best, 85, of 1317 Westbrook Circle, Gastonia, died August 5, 2000, at Brian Center, Lincolnton. A native of Gaston County, she was daughter of the late Walter C. and Julia Rudisill Ford. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Sherman Brumley, and her step son-in-law, Alfred Walter Best. She was a 1934 graduate of Tryon High School and a 1938 graduate of Asheville Teachers College. She taught in the Statesville schools for 26 years. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Bessemer City, NC.

Survivors: Husband: H. Alfred Best; son: Ray Brumley of Washington, DC; daughter and son-in-law: Jo Brumley and Charles W. Taylor, Jr., of Wilmington, NC; step daughter-in-law; Marilyn Hook Best of Bessemer City; grandson: Charles W. Taylor III of Wilmington, NC; step granddaughters and spouse: Anna Melissa Best and Larry Foley of Bessemer City, April Gretchen Best of Gastonia, Alicia Paige Best of Bessemer City.

Funeral is 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Sisk-Butler Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Cyrus F. Frazier officiating.

Visitation is 6:30-7:30 p.m. Monday at Sisk-Butler Funeral Home, Bessemer City, NC.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lincoln County, 107 Cedar Street, Lincolnton, NC 28092.

Wood, Eugene Leonard
HARMONY - Mr. Eugene Leonard Wood, 82, died Saturday, August 5, 2000. Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Iredell Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 7-8:30 tonight at Reavis Funeral Home at Harmony Chapel.

Birchfield, Monica Lynn Benge
HIGH SHOALS - Mrs. Monica Lynn Benge Birchfield, 27, of 316 River Street in High Shoals died Saturday, August 5, 2000. Her Funeral will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Evangelist Jack Taylor and pastor Ron Hawkins will be officiating. Burial will follow in the High Shoals Memorial Garden Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mrs. Birchfield was born on October 5, 1972 in Gaston County and worked as the Assistant Manager at the TV Rental Company.

Survivors include: husband, Donnie Ray Birchfield of the home; one son, Donnie Ray Birchfield, Jr. also of the home; parents, Gene Benge of Lowell and Diane Holland Lancaster of Gastonia; one sister, Chrisie Lancaster of Gastonia; four step-sisters, Brandy Benge and Angel Benge both of Lowell, NC, Mrs. Hope Smith of Fayetteville, NC and Mrs. Lisa Hyatt of Concord, NC; maternal grandparents, Paul and Anna Holland of Bessemer City; Mary Ewing of Gastonia. Paternal grandfather Lewis Benge of Marion, NC and grandmother Mrs. Frances Furr of Gastonia, NC.

KANNAPOLIS - Mr. Sidney Cook, 95, died August 5, 2000. Funeral is 2 p.m. Tuesday at New Hope Methodist Church, Monroe. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. Monday at Whitley's Funeral Home.

KANNAPOLIS - Mrs. Beatrice Helms Ferguson, 83, died August 6, 2000. Funeral is 8 p.m. Tuesday at Whitley's Funeral Home. Visitation is 6:30-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Whitley's.

Bumgardner, Mildred Hawkins
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mildred Hawkins Bumgardner, age 69, resident of 806 Hillside Dr., Kings Mountain, NC died Saturday, August 5, 2000 at Kings Mountain Hospital. She was a native of Cleveland Co., NC and daughter of the lat Preston Audie and Nettie Pearson Hawkins. She was wife of the late Ira Bumgarner. She was also preceded in death by her sister Ann Ruth Whitesides and brother J.B. Hawkins. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Kings Mountain, NC and she was a homemaker.

Survivors include, sons, Mark Bumgarner and wife Debra, Brunson, SC, Lt. Col. Mike Bumgarner and wife Sandra, Ft. Bliss, TX; daughter, Angela `Dee' Fouss and husband James, Round Rock, TX; brother, Tommy Hawkins, Kings Mountain, NC; sisters, Betty Crawford, Etha Bumgardner, Peggy Davis, Myra Hagans, all of Kings Mountain, NC, Lois Ellis, Grover, NC, Linda Tignor, Shelby, NC; four grandchildren, Matthew Fouss, Audrey Fouss, Kyle Bumgarner and Kirk Bumgarner.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. August 8, 2000 at Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dale Swofford, officiating.

Visitation will be Monday night, August 7, 2000 from 7-9 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home, Kings Mountain, NC.

Interment will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Mountain, NC.

Arrangements are by Harris Funeral Home, Kings Mountain, NC.

Post, Thomas Willis
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Thomas Willis Post, age 70, resident of 500 York Road, Kings Mountain, NC, died, Saturday, August 5, 2000 at Kings Mountain Hospital. He was a native of Erie, PA. He was the son of the late Luther Post and Isa Hilliard Post. He attended Rose of Sharon Ministries in Gastonia, and was a retired security guard.

Survivors include wife, Mary Ruth Brown Post of the home, sons, James Post, Norman Post, and Ronald Simpson, all of Western New York State, Frank Simpson, of SC and Harold Post of PA. Daughters, Myrna Davis, Elaine Rink and April Kelley all of Western New York State, step-children, Daniel Arthur Rudd, Debra Dowd, Dean Edward Rudd, and Larry Chapman all of Kings Mountain, and Pattie Jo White of New York, 26 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Funeral service, Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel, Tuesday, August 8, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Orville Hoover officiating.

Visitation will be from 12:45-1:45 p.m. Tuesday at Harris Funeral Home.

Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery in North East, PA. Arrangements are by Harris Funeral Home, Kings Mountain, NC.

Deese, Lillian Louise Catoe
LANCASTER - Mrs. Lillian Louise Catoe Deese, 76, of Lancaster, died Saturday, August 5, 2000 in Springs Memorial Hospital. Born in Lancaster County, she was a daughter of the late Haskell and Esther Stogner Catoe. Mrs. Deese was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Deese and a daughter, Sandra D. Riggins. She was a homemaker and a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Mrs. Deese is survived by 4 daughters, Mrs. Randy (Sarah) Funderburk, Ms. Brenda D. Hilley, Mrs. Harold (Linda) Sims and Mrs. Richard (Deborah) Harcher all of Lancaster; 4 sons, Donald A. Deese, Jerry L. Deese and Michael W. Deese all of Lancaster and Harold R. Deese of Blythewood; 3 sisters, Mrs. Faye Lucas and Mrs. Eva Adams both of Lancaster and Mrs. Catherine Inman of Martinsvile, VA; 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 Tuesday afternoon from Mahaffey Funeral Home Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Thurman Johnson. Interment will be in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Mahaffey Funeral Home from 12:30 until 1:30 Tuesday afternoon.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or to the American Diabetes Association.

Hines, William Edward `Bill'
LANCASTER - Mr. William Edward `Bill' Hines, 75, of 3530 Cimmeron Road, died Saturday morning, August 5, 2000 at Springs Memorial Hospital. He was born September 22, 1924 in Goldsboro, NC, the son of the late Mr. Wade Hines an Mrs. Ella Mattie Johnson Hines. Mr. Hines retired from the US Air Force asa Master Sargeant and was of the Methodist faith.

Mr. Hines is survived by his wife Mrs. Nguyen Thi anh Hines of the home, 1 son, Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh Hines of Charleston, WV, 2 daughters, Miss Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy Hines of Bridgeport, WV and Miss Nguyen Thi Ly Tram Hines of Charlotte, NC and 1 grandson.

The Funeral Service for Mr. Hines will be 10:00 a.m. Monday morning, August 7, 2000 at Hartley Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Frank Lybrand. Burial will follow at Florence National Cemetery in Forence, SC at 3:00 p.m. Monday afternoon.

The Family of Mr. Hines will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 pm Sunday evening, August 6, 2000 at Harley Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster, SC 29720.
