Pond, Pattie Hill
ANSONVILLE - Mrs. Pattie Hill Pond, 86, died Sunday, August 6, 2000 in Union Regional Medial Center in Monroe.
She was born in Atlanta, Georgia, December 12, 1913, a daughter of the late Marvin P. and Belma Ross Hill.
Mrs. Pond was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene West Pond, May 24, 1987. She was a life-long member of Ansonville United Methodist Church, and faithfully supported the ministries of the church.
She was retired from Anson County Hospital with more than 20 years of service, and also assisted in the operation of the former Gaddy's Wild Goose Refuge, a well-known part of Anson County's heritage.
Services for Mrs. Pond will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 9, 2000 by the graveside in Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Ron Lytle officiating.
Surviving are her son, Thomas E. Pond of Ansonville; her grandsons, Michael W. Pond of Concord and Robert E. Pond of Locust; 10 great-grandchildren, and 2 step great-grandchildren.

Carter, Beulah Dellinger Tucker
BELMONT - Mrs. Beulah Dellinger Tucker Carter, 89, of 703 E. Catawba Street, died August 7, 2000 at her home.
Born in Lincoln County, she was the last surviving child of the late William J. and Nora E. Drum Dellinger. She was the widow of Robert B. Tucker and Ross Lee Carter. She was retired from Knit Products Corp; for many years she owned and operated Belmont Flower Shop. She was a member of Park Street United Methodist Church since 1922; a life member of United Methodist Women; choir member; and Sunday School Teacher.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby Don and Gail Tucker of Mount Holly; grandsons, and granddaughter-in-law, Clayton Tucker of Mount Holly, Gregory and Vickie Tucker of Gastonia; great-granddaughter, Emilee Tucker of Gastonia; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Dellinger; and caregivers, Phyllis Rhodes and Joy King; nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by 3 brothers, Fred Ross and John Dellinger; and 5 sisters, Maggie Dellinger, Mrs. Jane Fincher, Mrs. Ora Lee Holbrook, Mrs. Rachel Walker and Flora Dellinger.
Funeral services will be conducted by Reverends Robert Dodd and Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. at 11:00 AM, Wednesday at Park Street United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Leslie Dellinger, Frank Dellinger, Frank Dellinger, Jimmie Stowe, Frank Ellington, Jim Biggerstaff, Tommy Loudermilk and Bennie Brown.

BLACKSBURG - Teresa Diane Vickers Mitchell, age 40 of 710 Burnt Mill Rd. Blacksburg, SC died Saturday, August 5, 2000 at Upstate Caroline Medical Center in Gaffney, SC.
Mrs. Mitchell was a native of Gaston County, N.C. Daughter of the late Franklin & Doris Bumgarner Vickers. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Betty Toler & Melissa Kay Vickers.
She is survived by her husband Homer Eugene Mitchell, Sr. of Stanley; 3 sons, Robert Daniel Vickers of Stanley, Billy Joe Mitchell of the home, Brandon Eugene Mitchell of the home; step son Homer Eugene Mitchell, Jr. of Lufkin, TX; daughter, Krista Lynn Mitchell of Blacksburg; step daughter, Cynthia Maria Mitchell of Lufkin, TX; 3 brothers, Johnny Vickers of Mt. Holly, Roger Vickers of Stanley; Jimmy Vickers of Asheville; 2 grandchildren; and 5 step grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Wednesday, August 9, 2000 at Hillcrest Gardens in Mt. Holly with Rev. officiating.

Huggins, Elbert Clyde
CHERAW - Mr. Elbert Clyde Huggins, age 63, died August 7, 2000 at his home.
Born in Chesterfield County, he was the son of Bertice Rollins Huggins and the late John Elmer Huggins. He graduated from Cheraw Public Schools and attended Southern Business University in Atlanta, GA. He was in car sales for many years and recently employed at Leland's Auto Sales in Cheraw. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Cheraw. He was also a member of the Cheraw Moose Lodge #2404.
He is survived by his mother, Bertice Rollins Huggins of Cheraw; two sons, Brian Earl Huggins and Charles Timothy Huggins, both of Charlotte, NC; two sisters, Pamela H. Chapman and husband, Henry D. Chapman of Cheraw and Carolyn Huggins Kendall of Florence, SC; one brother, William Charles Huggins and wife, Mickey Huggins of Cheraw; one grandson, Tyler Michael Huggins of Cheraw; and former wife Shirley Trulove Huggins of Columbia, SC.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 9, 2000 at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church with interment in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Tuesday, August 8, 2000 at Norton Funeral Home.

CHESTERFIELD - Mr. William Legette Lewis, age 71, died August 6, 2000. The funeral will be Tuesday, August 8, 2000 at 5:00 P.M. at Bay Springs Baptist Church, Chesterfield, with burial in the Church Cemetery. Mr. Lewis was born in Chesterfield, SC, a son of the late James Issac and Pansy Aline Davidson Lewis. He was a retired Carpenter and a faithful member of Bay Springs Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School teacher and deacon. Mr.Lewis was an avid football and baseball fan, and loved gardening, running his rabbit dogs, and reading his Bible. He was preceded in death by his 2 brothers, Tommy Lewis and Wilson Lewis.
Survivors are his wife of 53 years, Helen Johnson Lewis of the home; 5 sons: William Lewis, Jr. of Cheraw, SC, James Lewis of Gaffney, SC, Larry Lewis of Ruby, SC and Joel Lewis and Dennis Lewis of Chesterfield, SC; 3 daughters: Lucille Roscoe of Patrick, SC, Sandra Bennett and Annette McLeod of Chesterfield, SC; 1 brother: Bonnie Lewis of Ruby, SC; 4 sisters: Allie Mae Stafford, Martha Stafford, and Bobbie Jean Johnson all of Chesterfield, SC and Mary Lee Gulledge of Patrick, SC; also 16 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

CLIFFSIDE - Mr. Robert Eugene Whitaker, 72 of 2085 Hwy. 120, Cliffside, NC died Sunday, August 6, 2000 at Rutherford Hospital.
He was a native of Rutherford Co. Son of the late Marvin R. and Zora Painter Whitaker. He was retired from Cone Mills, Cliffside Plant, a U.S. Army Veteran of W.W.II, a member of Cliffside Masonic Lodge and Cliffside Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Cardell Whitaker of the home; two stepsons, Robert E. Smith of Weddington and Doug Smith of Charlotte; one brother, Frank Whitaker of Shelby; two sisters, Hazel Lucas of Yaupon Beach, NC and Betty Butler of Forest City; Two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000 at 2:00 PM at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home with Rev. Charlie Blackwell officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will be in Cliffside Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 7-9 PM at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home.
Pixler, James A.
CLOVER - Mr. James A. Pixler, Jr., age 76 of 1187 Bowling Green Drive, Clover, S.C. died Saturday, August 5, 2000 at Piedmont Medical Center, Rock Hill, SC.
Mr. Pixler was born September 25, 1923, in Jamesville, WI, a son of the late James A. Pixler, Sr. and Pearl Pixler. He was the widower of Blanche M. Pixler and Dorothy Mae Pixler. He was a World War II and Korean War Veteran. Mr. Pixler was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon Sawvell and Donald Kolowinski.
Survivors include his six daughters, Marsha Pixler of Ruby, SC, Mari-Jo Riege, Waterloo, WI, Sharon Fassbender of Waterlo, WI, Patricia Crowley of Ruby, SC, Wanda Brady of McChesney Park, IL, Tori Pixler of Marshall, WI; four sons, James Pixler of Wisconsin, Lee Pixler of Marshall, WI, Curt Pixler of Arkansas, Dale Riddle of Sun Prairie, WI; one brother, John Pixler of Prairie Du Chien, WI; three sisters, Eudora Mahoney of Madison, WI, Pearl Starker of Sun Prairie, WI, Mabel Pixler of Madison, WI; 12 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; and 7 step great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2000 at M. L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Benny Helms and Rev. Tommy Oliver. Interment was August 13, 2000 in Washington Cemetery, Portland, WI.

DENVER - Laraine Goins King, 55, of 7837 Water Oak Rd. died Aug. 6, 2000, at her residence.

Mrs. King was a born in Banner Elk. She attended Cranberry High School and was employed by Bartlett Nuclear Plant.

Gunter, Sylvester Lee
GASTONIA - Mr. Sylvester Lee Gunter, 71, of 802 Overhill St., died August 7, 2000 at his residence.
Mr. Gunter was a native of Concord, NC, the son of the late Connie and Jennie Bell Blackwelder Gunter. He was a retired machinist with Precision Machine Products and a member of Beech Avenue Baptist Church.
Mr. Gunter is survived by his wife, Betty Harris Gunter, of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Felix Pruitt, Bessemer City, NC, Debra and Tim Beaty, Michele and Terry Radford, both of Gastonia, NC; son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Belinda Gunter, Belmont, NC; three sisters, Jackie Hunnicutt, Peggy Walls and June Hagans, all of Gastonia, NC; nine grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2000 at 4:00 PM at Beech Avenue Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Rick Duncan. Burial will be at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City. The family will receive friends at Carothers Funeral Home, Gastonia, Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM and other times at the residence.
