STANLEY - Robert "Jack" Jackson Armstrong, age 84, of 134 Hawley St., Stanley died August 6, 2000 at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia.
He was a native of Gaston County, NC, son of the late Robert W. & Lula Simmons Armstrong. He was a retired Supervisor with Talon Inc. of Stanley; and Charter Member of Community Baptist Church in Dallas.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Nell Brafford Armstrong of Newton; sons & daughters-in-law, Robert M. & Lois Armstrong of Newton, David J. & Dana Armstrong of Dallas; daughter, Sandra J. Canning of Foxboro, MA; 8 grandchildren, John M., Michael C., Elizabeth Ann & Jamie Canning of Foxboro, MA, Jennifer Luu of Lincolnton, Angela Goins of Mt. Holly, Timothy Armstrong of Virginia, Mark Armstrong of Newton; and 1 great grandchild, Conner Canning of Foxboro, MA.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM, Wednesday, August 9, 2000 at Carothers Funeral Home in Stanley, with Rev. Roy Barbee officiating. Burial in Hillcrest Gardens, Mt. Holly. Visitation 7:00 to 9:00 PM Tuesday, Aug. 8, at Carothers Funeral Home in Stanley.

STAR - Viola Ector Eaton Britt, 100, of 368 New Hope Church Road, died Saturday, August 5, 2000. Visitation will be from 7-9 tonight, August 7, 2000. The service will begin at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2000 at New Hope Baptist Church. The Rev. Robert Dennis and the Rev. Gene Davis will officiate. Burial will be in Old New Hope Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Britt was a homemaker and the wife of the late John Gainey Britt, Sr. She was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Epps. She is survived by her son, J.G. Britt of Star, NC, her daughter, Ector B. Kinney of Star, NC, 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Pamplin, Walter Lewis
WILMINGTON - Mr. Walter Lewis Pamplin, 80, of 1502 Marblehead Ct., Wilmington, N.C. died Monday, August 8, 2000 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center in Wilmington.
A graveside service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 9, 2000 at Greenhill Cemetery.
He was born March 26, 1920 in Greensboro, NC to the late Walter Marion Pamplin and Blanche Gertrude Thomas Pamplin.
Mr. Pamplin was a retired District Manager for Piedmont Natural Gas. He was a long time resident of the Greensboro-High Point area before moving to Wilmington 6 years ago. He saw action with the US Army in the European Theater during World War II. During the Korean Conflict, he served in the US Marine Corps. He was a member of the Pine Valley Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Dora Anne Bowden Pamplin; two children of a previous marriage, Walter Lewis Pamplin, Jr. of Shepherdstown, WV and Linda Pamplin Harwell and husband Larry of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren and eight step grandchildren. He was loved and will be missed by his wife's children; John and Hazel Gideon of Wilmington, Lynne Gideon of Greensboro, Kelly Gideon of Winston-Salem, Gail Gideon of Greensboro and one step great grandchild.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 8, 2000 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM at Forbis & Dick North Elm Street Chapel.

Brenda Post Charles, age 51, of Charlotte passed away August 8, 2000 at Carrington Place of Matthews, NC.
She was born May 31, 1949 in Charlotte, graduated North Mecklenburg High School, graduated C.P.C.C. and retired from Mecklenburg County Court House Magistrates Office. Brenda was preceded in death by her father, Buford A. Bost.
A graveside service will be held at 10 AM, Thursday, August 10, 2000 at Sharon Memorial Park officiated by The Reverend Harold Peacock.
Survivors include her mother, Gladys Bost, son, Jeffrey Charles, cousin, Francis Poe, (Cecil) and their son, Phil, all of Charlotte.

Clifton, Nezzie Lottie Arant
Mrs. Nezzie Lottie Arant Clifton, 88, of Charlotte, died August 8, 2000 in NorthEast Medical Center.
She was born November 20, 1911 in Pageland, SC. Mrs. Clifton retired from the Central Supply of Presbyterian Hospital after more than eighteen years of service.
She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church.
A Funeral Service to Celebrate the Life of Mrs. Clifton will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, August 10, 2000 at Memorial United Methodist Church with The Reverend Keith Bingham officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 PM tonight at McEwen Charlotte Chapel.
Mrs. Clifton was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, William "Bill" Clifton of the home; a son, James "Bill" Clifton of Lawrenceville, GA; a daughter, Phyllis Collins of Charlotte; a grandson, Dan Clifton, A granddaughter, Debra Taylor; a great granddaughter, Clay Taylor; and a sister, Nellie Boone of Lancaster, SC.

Crawley, Carole Louise Stafford
Carole Louise Stafford Crawley, of Charlotte, passed away after a tragic automobile accident in Jacksonville, FL on August 5th, 2000. She was born on May 26, 1938 in Lowville, New York. She was the daughter of the late Leon Fredrick Stafford and Frances Menard Stafford. She was also the mother of the late Jeannine Marie Crawley.
Carole spent 22 years of service as a nurse in the Chapel Hill area. She was kind and compassionate as well as knowledgeable in her field. Her love of nursing spread to those she touched made her a true angel of mercy. She was employed at Walden Books at Eastland Mall. She was a respected employee whose opinion was valued by patrons and staff alike. She was an avid reader and enjoyed all types of literature. She enjoyed spending time with her children Rebecca, Windel and Raymond, whom she cherished. Carole held a special place in heart for her grandson Matthew, whom she loved dearly. She loved her son-in-law John who was supportive of her at all times.
Family and friends will dearly miss her. Three children, Rebecca Evans and her husband John of Charlotte, Windel Crawley of Charlotte, and Raymond Crawley of Raleigh, NC, survive Carole. Her sister, Linda Alead lives in Tenn. Carole's former husband and dear friend Windel Monroe Crawley Sr. resides in Gurdon, AK.
A memorial service will be held at Saint Luke's Catholic Church on Thursday, August 10, 2000. Visitation will be held from 10:00-10:45, followed by a memorial service at 11:00. Final burial will be at Seaside Memorial Park in Swansboro, NC, on Friday, August 11, 2000 at 12 noon.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Ida Douglas of Charlotte, NC; and sister, Ms. Ruby Douglas of Charlotte.

Gould, Samuel J.
Samuel J. Gould, 90, of Charlotte, NC died Tuesday, August 8, 2000.
Mr. Gould was an accomplished Shriner and was a member of Temples in New York State and North Carolina. He was extremely proud to be the oldest member of the Dilworth Tennis Association.
He was the beloved father of Jack Gould and his wife, Marta of Statesville, NC; grandchildren, Shelly Stanley and her husband, Butch of Charlotte and Bruce Gould of Charlotte; and great granddaughter, Lindsey Stanley of Charlotte.
Memorial service will be 1:00 PM, Thursday, August 10, 2000 at Temple Beth-El, 5101 Providence Road with Rabbi Judith Schindler officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Mrs. Sarah Jane Armstrong King, age 53 of Charlotte, N.C. died Tuesday, August 8, 2000 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, August 10, 2000 at Northside Baptist Church with Dr. Paul Martin officiating. Interment at Forest Lawn West Cemetery. Visitation is 6:00-9:00 PM Wednesday at McEwen Charlotte Chapel.
Mrs. King was born March 6, 1947 in Charlotte, daughter of the late James Everard and Sarah Hurt Armstrong. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church, Friendship Bible Class, was a graduate of Garinger High School, was associated with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System as an Assistant Teacher ten years and was also elected Teacher of the Year as an Assistant.
Surviving are her husband of twelve years, Charles David King; daughter Sandra Michele Maners and husband Christopher of Belmont, NC; sister, Sylvia Latta of Suffolk, Va.; brother William Rodger Armstrong of Belmont, NC.
