KANNAPOLIS - Mr. Ralph R. McLeod, 83, of 405 Helen Street, Kannapolis, North Carolina, died January 25, 2001 at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte, North Carolina after four years of declining health.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Sunday, January 28, 2001 at Trinity United Methodist Church, with Rev. Don Shuman, Rev. Pat Purdy, and Sarah Weaver officiating. Interment will be in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Saturday, January 27, 2001 at Whitley's Funeral Home.

Mr. McLeod was born April 11, 1917 in Alexander Co., NC to the late Richard Brown McLeod and Molly Rebecca Johnson McLeod & Ada Watts McLeod. He was employed with Western & Southern Life Insurance Co., Kannapolis, NC for many years until his retirement in 1979; member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC, where he was active with the Bullock Bible Class; veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II; member of Allen-Graham Masonic Lodge #695; and resident of the area since 1935. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, who passed away December 20, 2000.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Rebecca Fisher & husband, Paris Fisher of Vienna, VA, Cathy Linn & husband, Terry Linn of Tega Cay, SC; 1 son, Kevin McLeod of Charlotte, NC; 2 brothers, Bain McLeod of Webberville, MI, John McLeod of Taylorsville, NC; 1 sister, Elma Price of Taylorsville, NC; 7 grandchildren, Ashley Gardner, Caroline Fisher, Paris Fisher, Jr., John Linn Thomas Linn, Andrew Linn, Susan Linn; and a host of nieces & nephews.

Bullock Bible Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will be at the home, 405 Helen Street, Kannapolis, NC.

KANNAPOLIS - Mrs. Cordia Stallings Childress Powers, age 104, died January 25, 2001. Service is Sunday 2 PM at Whitley's Funeral Home. Visitation Saturday 7-8:30 PM at the funeral home.

Reagan, Annie Lola
LAURINBURG - Miss Annie Lola Reagan, 74, died Jan. 25, 2001. Funeral is 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.

Giles, Emma Irene
LEXINGTON - Emma Irene Giles, 60, died January 25, 2001. Funeral 2pm Sunday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church. Arrangements by Piedmont Funeral Home, Lexington, NC.

Goss, Louise Myers
LEXINGTON - Louise Myers Goss, 86, died January 25, 2001. Funeral 2pm Sunday, Reed's United Methodist Church. Burial, Lexington City Cemetery. Vstn 6-8pm Sat., Davidson Funeral Home; other times, E.L. Myers Rd.

Kyles, James Darrell
LEXINGTON - James Darrell Kyles, 53, died January 25, 2001. Funeral 2pm Saturday at Stoner's Grove Bapt. Church; with burial in church cem. Vstn at the home on Beech Dr., Lexington. Davidson Funeral Home is in charge.

Perkins, Grace Smith
LEXINGTON - Mrs. Grace Smith Perkins, 90, died Jan. 25, 2001. Funeral is 4 p.m. today at Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ. Davidson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Spurrier, Hovis E.
LEXINGTON - Hovis E. Spurrier, 79, died Jan. 24, 2001. Funeral is 11 a.m. today at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. Visitation is 10-11 a.m. today prior to the service at the funeral home.

Edwards, Marlon Lee
LINCOLNTON - Mr. Marlon Lee Edwards, age 58, of 1184 Ralph Keener Road in Lincolnton died Thursday, January 25, 2001.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday at Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mr. Edwards was born on January 4, 1943, in Cocke County, Tennessee to the late Reverend Stokley and Fannie Lewis Edwards. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Carpenter of Gastonia and Alene Gray of Dallas. Mr. Edwards was a brick mason in the residential construction industry.

Survivors include: wife, Jean N. Edwards of the home; two sons, William "Billy" Edwards of Gastonia, NC, Ricky Edwards of Lincolnton, NC; one daughter, Terry Branham of Gastonia, NC; two brothers, Wayne Edwards of Greenville, SC, Jim Edwards of Lowell, NC; two sisters, Jean Grant of Gastonia, NC, Tiny Buchanan of Belmont, NC; seven grandchildren, Chance Branham of Lowell, Matthew Edwards and Eric Edwards both of Gastonia, Mist Edwards, Samantha Edwards, Rowdy Edwards and Nicole Jones all of Lincolnton.

Huss, Ernest Elias
LINCOLNTON - Mr. Ernest Elias Huss, age 85 of 2589 Ernest Huss Lane, Lincolnton died Thursday, January 25, 2001 at home.

His funeral service will be 3:00 PM Saturday at Covenant Bible Church with Rev. Charles Brown, Rev. Nathan Grooms, Rev. Mike Devine, Rev. Joe Drum and Rev. Marcellas Dellinger officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Mr. Huss was born on May 3, 1915 in Lincoln. He was preceded in death by his parents Lee and Frances Hull Huss. Mr. Huss was a retired shipping clerk with Charlotte Pipe and Foundry Co.

Survivors include: wife, Bertie Armstrong Huss of the home; three daughters, Peggy Beard, Frances Keener and Donna Haskett all of Lincolnton, NC; ten grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; twelve great-great grandchildren; eight step-great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lincoln County, 107 N. Cedar St., Lincolnton, NC 28092.

Warlick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Thomas, Deborah Paulette
LINCOLNTON - Miss Deborah Paulette Thomas, age 49, of 208 Sunny Hill Drive in Lincolnton, died Thursday, January 25, 2001 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at Mt. View Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend James Reagan officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM Friday at Warlick Funeral Home.

Miss Thomas was born on July 21, 1951 in Lincoln County to the late Paul and Laura Clark Thomas. She was a supervisor in the textile industry.

Survivors include: three brothers, Paul Lance Thomas, Don Thomas and Teddy Robert Thomas all of Lincolnton, NC.

Pigg, Nellie Mae A.
MONROE - Mrs. Nellie Mae A. Pigg, 71, died January 23, 2001. Funeral is 1 p.m. Sunday at McEwen Colonial Chapel. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Steele, Benjamin Eugene (Gene)
MONROE - Mr. Benjamin Eugene (Gene) Steele, age 91, Monroe, died Wednesday (January 24, 2001) at the home of his caregiver, Mrs. Anna P. Howey.

Funeral Services for Mr. Steele will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday (January 27, 2001) at Central United Methodist Church, officiated by Dr. Don Haynes and Reverend Paula Northrup.

Interment will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park.

Mr. Steele was born in Lancaster County, South Carolina, on September 29, 1909, son of the late John H. and Mittie Ringstaff Steele. He was married to the late Cora Simpson Steele. Mr. Steele was employed by the Allison Ervin Hardware Company in Charlotte, and was a retired farmer, having grown beef cattle and grapes. He was also a WWII US Army Engineer.

Survivors include two sisters, Edna Steele and Susie Addison both of Lancaster, South Carolina; his caregivers, Anna P. Howey and Frank Howey, Jr. both of Monroe.

Mr. Steele was a former member of the Baker's VFD, former Past Chairman of the Baker's Precinct, Union County Cattleman's Association, a member of Monroe Masonic Lodge #244 and a Shriner.

The family will receive friends in the Church Narthex from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, prior to the funeral service, Saturday Morning.

Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 801 S. Hayne Street, Monroe, NC 28112 or the Pleasant Grove Campground, c/o Bob Winchester, PO Box 68, Mineral Springs, NC 28108.

Reid, Mary Lee Fish
MOORESVILLE - Mrs. Mary Lee Fish Reid, 83, of Mooresville, died Friday, January 26, 2001 at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, Mooresville.

Born February 6, 1917, in Iredell County, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Bessie Alley Fish. Mrs. Reid was last employed by Bridgeport Fabrics in Davidson. She was a member of Williamson's Chapel United Methodist Church, Mooresville. Mrs. Reid was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Franklin Reid and grandson, Kevin Reid.

She is survived by children, Harold "Buddy" Reid and wife, Lynda, David L. Reid and wife, Marjorie and Danny Reid, all of Mooresville; brother, John Fish of Mooresville; sisters, Annie Ruth Little of Cornelius and Pearl Cunnup of Davidson; 10 and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3 PM, Sunday, January 28, 2001 at Williamson's Chapel United Methodist Church, Mooresville, with Dr. W. Lyn Sorrells and Dr. Paul E. Childers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends from 7-8:30 PM, Saturday, January 27, 2001 at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville.

Memorials may be made to Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 East Seventh St., Charlotte, NC 28204.

Bingham, Christine King
MOREHEAD CITY - Christine King Bingham, age 87, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2001 at her residence in Morehead City, NC.

Mrs. Bingham taught for 35 years at the Stokes and Watuga County school system. She was a graduate from Appalachian State University, a member of Pinnacle United Methodist Church and had received the Governor's Certificate of Appreciation.

Surviving are her family, daughter, Rebecca Bingham Mast of Morehead City, NC; two sons, James Robert Bingham of Boone, NC, William S. Bingham, Jr. of Davidson, NC; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucille King Wall of Pinnacle, NC, Alyne King Norman of Pilot Mountain, NC.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2001 at Pinnacle United Methodist Church, Pinnacle, NC. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.

Family will receive friends at the Cox-Needham Funeral Home on Saturday, January 27, 2001 from 7 to 9 PM.

Cox-Needham of Pilot Mountain will be in charge of the Bingham arrangements.

Strader, Matthew David
MT. HOLLY - Matthew David Strader, 9 month old son of Michael and Lisa Pugh Strader of 101 Fites Creek Road, died January 25, 2001 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

In addition to his parents, other survivors include a sister, Krystal Dawn Strader and a brother Phillip Michael Strader, both of the home; a paternal grandmother, Helene Strader of Thomasville, NC, maternal grandparents, Arnold and Peggy Pugh of Trinity, NC; and a paternal great-grandmother, Maria Kaiser of Stuutgart, Germany.

Funeral services conducted by the Rev. Barney Pierce will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday in the Woodlawn Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mt. Holly. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30-2:00 PM Saturday.

Memorials may be made to the Carolinas Medical Children's Hospital, 1001 Blythe Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203.
