She was the third child of five daughters and three sons born to Coy W. and Lora Smith Rivers. Sarah was the name sake of her Grannie, Sarah Boatwright Rivers and her great Grannie Sarah Ann Rivers. To her father, she was his "Yellow Boy, " one of his farm girls.

Mrs. Brooks, early in life, was received into Hopewell Baptist Church, the church of her parents and grandparents, to become a life-long actively dedicated member. After her church, Sarah was devoted to Tom, her husband of almost 68 years (married Jan. 21, 1993) who died on January 6, 2001 and now waits for her to again be by his side at Hopewell. Her caring and devotion extended to and through her children, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren and a host of friends. Sarah attended the old Center Point School on Angelus Road and Chesterfield High School. She never tired of doing for others, seeing to their needs ahead of her own.

Ma-Ma's cakes, pies, Chow-chow relish and other goodies made her a source of information and input to those preparing community and family cookbooks. She loved to play childrens games being always the one to outperform the younger ones with a hoola hoop, dancing the Charleston, in physical exercises, or at Easter egg hunts. She lived a good life, she fought the good fight, and she cared for others. So, whether it was Sarah, Yellow Boy, Sister, or Ma-Ma, she brought joy to our lives.

Lisenby; and a brother, Dallas P. Rivers, all of the Hopewell Community in Chesterfield, SC; grandchildren, William Kevin Brooks and Kevin's wife, Carol of Denver, NC, Katherine Lee (Kate) B. Williamson and Kate's husband, Derrick of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, Amy Ross B. Bennett of Lewisville, NC, Holly Catherine L. Beane and husband, Brad of Monroe, NC and Robert Lee Long of Charlotte, NC; great-grandchildren, Blaire Cassady Brooks, Spenser Lee Brooks, Katherine Summer Williamson, Sarah Elizabeth Bennett, Rebekah Brooks Bennett and Sarah Ashley Beane.

The family expresses its gratitude to the many family members, church associates, friends from all walks of life, and medical care givers in Chesterfield County, Charlotte and Monroe, NC. Thanks is also extended to the County Rescue and Ambulance Services, Hospital Staff, and Dr. John F. McLeod, III in Cheraw, as well as all the folks at the ICC Unit of Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. William S. Roberts and the Brian Center of Monroe, NC, all of whom made life bearable during Ma-Ma's last days.

In lieu of flowers, please contribute to a charity of choice or to the Hopewell Baptist Church "Senior Van Fund, " Rt. 2, Box 150, Chesterfield, SC 29709.
