Blakely, Viola "Mae" Lytle
Mrs. Viola "Mae" Lytle Blakely, 86, of Huntersville, died Thursday, January 25, 2001 at her residence. Born August 17, 1914 in Iredell County, she was daughter of the late James Alexander Lytle and Minnie Coone Lytle. She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and Workers Sunday School Class.
Survivors include daughters, Mrs. Linda B. Sherrill and husband, Michael of Huntersville and Mrs. Kay B. Brown and husband, Barry of Cornelius; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
funeral service will be 3:00 PM, Sunday, January 28, 2001 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with Dr. Terry Matthews officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at Raymer Funeral Home.

Armstrong, Judith Margaret
Mrs. Judith Margaret Armstrong, 61 of Charlotte, NC died suddenly at home on Thursday, January 25, 2001. Funeral services will be 12:30 PM Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at McEwen funeral service, Pineville Chapel. The Reverend Rachel Haynes will be officiating the services. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Judith Armstrong was born August 22, 1939 in Crewe, England the daughter of the late James and May (Smith) Owen. She was trained as a school teacher. Judith was a dedicated homemaker for the twenty-two years that she lived in the United States. She loved to express herself through sewing and quilting, and loved to travel. Judith was a loving and caring wife and mother.
Mrs. Armstrong is survived by her husband of thirty-eight years, John of the home in Charlotte; and two daughters, Claire Armstrong Kraft and her husband, David of Charlotte, and Helen Armstrong of Charlotte.

Fletcher, Dorothy Stephens
Dorothy Stephens Fletcher, 73, of Huntersville died Saturday, January 27, 2001 at Huntersville Oaks Nursing Home. Born April 9, 1927, she was daughter of the late Roy M. Stephens and Vera Porter Stephens. She was a member of Powderville Baptist Church in Powderville, SC.
Survivors include a son, Stephen Yeargin of Lancaster, SC; daughter, Patrice `Patty' Gibson of Anderson, SC; brothers, Dallas Stephens of Hickory, NC, Rev. Leland Stephens of Charlotte, NC, Robert `Bobby' Stephens of Greenville, SC, and Tommie Stephens of Easley, SC; grandchildren and great grandchildren; and her very special friends, Barbara Leagon.
A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Huntersville Oaks Nursing Home in Huntersville 3:00 p.m. Monday, January 29, 2001 with the Rev. Leland Stephens and Dallas Stephen officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

Forbis, Wilma Louise
Mrs. Wilma Louise Forbis, 86, of White Oak Manor, Charlotte, died Saturday. January 27, 2001 at Carolinas Medical Center.
Born September 11, 1914, in Charlotte, daughter of the late Simon F. and Loma Helms Mullis, she is survived by her son, Jerry G. Forbis and his friend Donna Pope of Indian Trail, NC; four grandchildren, Jennifer MacLaren, Lisa White and Mark and Matthew Forbis, all of Charlotte; and four great-grandchildren, Alec, Samuel, Matthew and Hannah Forbis. Mrs. Forbis was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel `Buck" Forbis.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, January 29, by her graveside in Sharon Memorial Park officiated by the Reverend Bill Wright of Oakhurst Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. tonight at 8201 Beacon Hills Road in Indian Trail.

Michael Douglas Houpe, Jr., born December 31, 2001, died January 25, 2001. In loving memory of our son, `Michael Douglas Houpe Jr, " who fought so very hard each and everyday for life, so that we could understand his message from God. We praise God each and everyday for our Michael, and for the miracle of his life and death. We walked with him in faith, we united with him in hope, and we showered him with love.

Ward, Paul D.
Paul D. Ward, of Matthews, died January 26, 2001 at Wesley Care Center. He was retired from East Coast Trailer. He was a member of Steele Creek American Legion Post 221. Born in Union County, South Carolina, he grew up and lived in Gaffney, SC until becoming a resident of Charlotte in 1959.
Paul served in WWII as a combat soldier with the 35th Infantry Division and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
Mr. Ward was the widower of Esteleen N. Ward. He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Alexander and her husband Jay, of Matthews, NC; a son, Larry (Butch) Ward of Charlotte; and a granddaughter, Emily Alexander, of Matthews. Survivors also include sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Seigler and Mrs. Hazel Huskey, of Gaffney, SC.
He was a gentile, sweet man who will be greatly missed by his family. He was first and foremost a husband and best father anyone could be. His pride and joy were his son, daughter, and beautiful granddaughter.
Visitation will take place at Lowe Funeral Home in Matthews on Monday, January 29, 2001 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Graveside services will be Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Gary Jones of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.

Mrs. Margaret Smith Way, of Charlotte, died January 24, 2001 at Mercy Hospital. Funeral services will be Monday, January 29 at 2:00 p.m. at Gethsemane Baptist Church, 2670 Dr. Carrer Drive, CHarlotte. Interment will follow at York Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until time for the service. Mrs. Way, a 1963 graduate of York Road High School, was later employed at Delmar Studios and at Actas Insurance, retiring from Actan following 20 years of service. Her survivors include her husband o 34 years, Abram Way, Jr; five sons; Ronald Way (Wendy), Keith Way (Gail), Reece Way, Anthony Hamilton, Sr., and Jeff Wilson (Eisha); step-daughter, Citonia Wells; three brothers: James Smith (Sue), John Smith( Mary), and Larry Smith; three sister: Dephine Smith, Willa Mae Hawthorne, and Rebecca Wright; step-father, Frank Barringer, eleven grandchildren, her best friend of 43 years, Joan McKnight Jackson; nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. King's Funeral Home, Charlotte, is serving Mrs. Way's family.

Samuel Hall (Sam) Roof
CHESTER - Mr. Samuel Hall (Sam) Roof, age 79, of #33 Wentzel street, died Friday, at the Roper North Hospital in North Charleston, SC.
Born December 13, 1921 in Chester County, he was a son of the late Thomas Roof and the late Emma Pittman Roof. He was retired from Springs Industries. He was the widower of Augusta Littrell Roof.
Surviving are daughter, Patricia Jennings of N. Charleston, SC, sister, Thelma Lee of Columbia, SC and four grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday from he Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Jimmy Sanders officiating.
