Carroll, Lula Mae Meredith
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Lula Mae Meredith Carroll, age 87, of 506 South Jones Ave., Rock Hill, passed away Friday, January 26, 2001 at Ebenezer Senior Service and Rehabilitation Center.

The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. today, January 28, 2001 at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel with the Rev. Eddie E. Ramsey officiating. Burial will be at Beth-Shiloh Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Born November 19, 1913 in Fairplay, Mrs. Carroll was a daughter of the late Sam Marshall Meredith and Corrie Ann Martin Meredith and the widow of Walter A. Carroll. She was retired from Riverside Textiles. She was a member of Park Baptist Church and Ladies Circle Number 4.j

Surviving are her brother, Sam Meredith of Mooresville, PA; two sisters, Birtie M. Hinson of Belmont, NC and Bertha M. Thomas of Rock Hill; her granddaughter, Lisa Davenport of Greer, SC; and her great-grandchild.

The family will recieved friends one hour prior to the service from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 28, 2001 at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel.

Memorials may be made to Park Baptist Church, 717 East Main St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Cauthen Funeral Home is serving the family of Mrs. Carroll.

Ridenhour, Charles Luther
SALISBURY - Mr. Charles Luther Ridenhour, Sr., 71, of West Innes St. passed away January 26, 2001. Funeral will be Sunday, 4PM at the Summersett Memorial Chapel; visitation is Saturday, 7 to 8:30 PM at Summersett Funeral Home.

Keel, Elizabeth Patrick
SHELBY - Mrs. Elizabeth Patrick Keel, 87, died Jan. 27, 2001. Memorial service is 3 p.m. Sunday at Shelby Presbyterian Church. Visitation will follow the memorial service. Palmer Mortuary of Shelby is in charge of arrangements.

Chapin, Charles William `Bill'
STATESVILLE - Charles William `Bill' Chapin, 70, died Friday, January 26, 2001. Funeral is 2 p.m. Tuesday at Nicholson Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the residence, 330 N. Oakwood Drive, following services.

Smith, O'Neil
TAYLORSVILLE - Mr. O'Neil Smith, Jr., 40, died at 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 2001. Funeral is 2 p.m. Monday at Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation is 7-8:30 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home tonight. Adams Funeral Home is in charge.

Myrtle Irene Honeycutt Cloninger (Gammy)
Myrtle Irene Honeycutt Cloninger (Gammy) born August 12, 1914 left this world for a better one on Friday, January 26, 2001 at Presbyterian Hospital, from complications of Heart and Lung problems. She was 86.

Myrtle was the wife of the late Worth McKay Cloninger. She was preceded in death by her daughter Linday Kay Miller.

Funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 30, 2001 from the Chapel of Lower Funeral Home, 4715 Margaret Wallace Road.

She is survived by a granddaughter Aleisa D. Miller, sisters, Evah Canipe of Matthews, Wirthie Johnson of Charlotte. Two brothers Ralph Honeycutt of Charlotte and Willis Aron Honeycutt of Kathlee, GA.

She was a wonderful, loving woman who will be truly missed by all who loved her dearly.

Ashton, Kirk Samuel
Mr. Kirk Samuel Ashton, age 50, of Charlotte, died suddenly at Carolinas Medical Center on Saturday, January 27, 2001.

A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Ashton will be conducted 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 30 form the graveside at Elmwood Cemetery with the Reverend Ted Troutman officiating. The Ashton family will receive friends from 11:00-12:00 Tuesday at the Charlotte Chapel of McEwen funeral service, 727 E. Morehead Street.

Mr. Ashton was born in Charlotte, August 27, 1950, son of John Ashton and the late Inez Dellinger Ashton. Kirk received his BA from UNC-Charlotte and an MA degree from the University of Cincinnati. He began his career as a fund raiser for Planned Parenthood, then worked in St. Louis and Cincinnati before returning to Charlotte. In the early 1980's, he opened and managed Women's and Family Healthcare. His clinic treated thousands of patients over the years with the assistance of wonderful, dedicated doctors and office assistant, Kathy Kemp.

Surviving Mr. Ashton are his father, John Ashton; brother, Kent Ashton, and wife Jackie; nephew, Jack Ashton; long-time friend and companion, Eva Nove; and former wife Carla M. Ashton.

Memorial donations may be directed to The Salvation Army, PO Box 31443, Charlotte, NC 28231 or to the American Heart Association, 1229 Greenwood Cliff, Suite 109, Charlotte, NC 28204.

Arrangements are by McEwen Funeral and Cremation Service, Charlotte Chapel.

Baker, Virginia Elma McIntosh
Virginia Elma McIntosh Baker, 81, of Charlotte died Sunday, January 28, 2001 at White Oak Manor. She was born February 23, 1919 to the late Luther H. and Shula Reynolds McIntosh.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 30 at Forest Lawn West, 4601 Freedom Drive, with the Rev. Edgar McCall of Doby's Bridge Presbyterian Church, Ft. Mill, SC, officiating. Flower bearers will be Mrs. Baker's granddaughters, April Presle, Eliza and Stephanie Harris and Katie Baker. The family will receive friends Monday, January 29, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at Carolina Funeral & Cremation Center, 5505 Monroe Road.

A resident of Charlotte since 1946, Mrs. Baker was born and educated in Hamlet, NC. She had been a homemaker and a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.

Predeceased by a son, William J. `Jimmy' Baker, Jr., survivors include, her husband of 55 years, William J. Baker, Sr; sons, Gary Lee Baker and his wife, Ruth, of Charlotte, Robin Baker and his wife Rose, of Ft. Mill, SC; daughter Gertrude Harris and her husband Hal of Asheville, NC; brother, Luther McIntosh of Rockingham, NC; sister, Hazel Harris of Wadesboro, NC; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Carolina Funeral & Cremation is entrusted with arrangements.

Bright, Sarah Lanford (Sally)
Sarah Lanford (Sally) Bright, age 59, of Charlotte, passed away January 28, 2001 at her residence.

A private family service will be held to celebrate her memory at a later date.

Ms. Bright was born March 31, 1941 in Birmingham, AL, a daughter of the late James Allen Marbury and Mary Winston Wofford Marbury.

Sally Marbury is survived by her two sisters, Winston Marbury Milonski and Caroline Marbury Bright. Also surviving are her nieces and nephews: Debbie Michelle Milonski, Michael James Milonski, James Marbury Milonski, Christopher O'Neal Bright, Asa W.B Valente and Farley Connell Bright II.

Memorial donations may be directed to Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 E. 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.

Gaither, Willie
Mr. Willie Gaither, Jr., 95, of Charlotte, NC, died Saturday, January 27, 2001 at Presbyterian Hospital. Arrangements are incomplete. Harry & Bryant Company is in charge.

Henderson, John Walter
Mr. John Walter Henderson, son of the late John and Mollie Harvell Henderson was born March 28, 1915 and reared in Mecklenburg County. He departed this earthly life on Saturday, January 27, 2000 at Carolinas Medical Center.

He attended Mecklenburg County School and retired from Reeves Bros. Curon Divison which is now named Foames LP located in Cornleius at the age of 65.

Mr. John Walter was a member of Catawba Presbyterian Church. He was joined in Holy Matrimony on May 19, 1940 to Mrs. Rosetta Gabriel Henderson. John and Rosetta celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary in the year 2000.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted and loving wife, Rosetta G. Henderson; 4 sons, James Henderson of the residence, Alvin Hendrson of Winston-Salem, NC, John Wesley Hendrson (Yvonna) of Charlotte, NC, and Defoster Henderson (Debra) of Morganton, NC; 6 daughters, Loretta Wilson (Raymond) Wilhelmena McClinton, Bessie Mills (Donald), Mynnie Pryor (Chancie) and Luvadah Barrino (Jonah) all of Charlotte, NC, and Marian Henderson of the residence; 3 god-children, Elnora Henderson (Alphonsa), George Gabriel of Huntersville, NC, and Ernest Gabriel (Joyce) of Charlotte, NC; 2 sisters, Ms. Vera Spaulding and Ms. Ardell Henderson both of CHarlotte, NC; 2 brothers, Mr. Harry Henderson and Mr. Vincent Henderson; 48 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Long & Son Mortuary Service is serving the Henderson Family.

Hunter, Kathryn Morris
Mrs. Kathryn Morris Hunter, 83, of Charlotte, died January 28, 2001, at Presbyterian Hospital.

Mrs. Hunter was born June 12, 1917 in Union County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Lester Wallace Morris and Carrie Fincher Morris. she was a member of Plaza Presbyterian Church where she had been very active in various socials and circles.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Hunter will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 30, 2001 from the Derita Chapel of McEwen funeral service, 6300 Mallard Creek Road, with The Reverend Marti Halliburton officiating. Committal will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. Friends may call on the Hunter family from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at the Derita Chapel Monday evening.

Mrs. Hunter is survived by her two sons, Larry Cox and his wife, Gayle of Weddington; Ken Cox and his wife, Rose Cox of Matthews; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; six sisters, Sarah Smith, Margaret Harkey, Virginia Caldwell, Mary Cox, Wallace Killough and Kerry Bailey.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in remembrance of Mrs. Kathryn Morris Hunter to The American Heart Association, 1300 Baxter Street, Charlotte, NC 28204. Arrangements are by McEwen Funeral and Cremation Service, Derita Chapel.

Johnson, Reginald James
Mr. Reginald James Johnson, formerly of Charlotte, NC, died January 26, 2001. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Long & Son Mortuary.

Keeter, Van Albrey (Pete)
Mr. Van Albrey (Pete) Keeter, 45, of Charlotte, died Sunday, January 28, 2001 at Presbyterian Hospital. The family will gather at the home of his sister. Arrangements are in the care of Hankins & Whittington, Dilworth Chapel, 1111 East Blvd.

McSpadden, Linda Ann
Linda Ann McSpadden, 42, of Charlotte, NC, died peacefully at home on Sunday, January 28, 2001.

Ann was born May 25, 1958 in Charlotte, NC. She was the daughter of Frank Welston and Joyce Kee McSpadden and attended Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. She graduated from St. Mary's College in Raleigh, NC where she was vice president of student body and from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1980 where she was a Whitaker Scholar and a resident advisor. She was active in the Charlotte Central YMCA swim program, participating in many regional swimming events and AAU competition. As a teenager she coached the swim team and taught swimming at Myers Park Country Club. Ann was a volunteer at Carolinas Medical Center, Dorothea Dix Hospital in Raleigh, and the Burn Center at NC Memorial Hospital.

In 1981 Ann began a career in radio and television with Jefferson Pilot Broadcasting Company and later with WSOC FM in Charlotte. She loved her work in the industry and continued as an account executive with WFSB TV (CBS) in Hartford, CT where she won a national Emmy nomination for the Pepsi public service campaign, `Get Down to Earth' in 1992. She recieved the Broadcasting Promotion and Marketing Executive (BPME) International Gold medallion and various regional Emmy awards. Ann became director of sales and marketing for The Bushnell, Hartford's performing arts center, in 1992. At the time of her illness she was a manager for Bed Bath and Beyond. Ann was also a volunteer in the 2000 US Census.

Ann was known for her enthusiasm and creativity. She was loyal and dedicated not only to her family and friends, but also to her business associates who often became lifelong friends. Her wonderufl smile will be missed by all who knew her.

Ann will be remembered as a loving and caring daughter and sister and a devoted aunt, niece, and cousin. Besides her parents survivors include twin sister, Kathryn Kee Frost and her husband, Robert Andrew Frost, D.M.D., M.S. of St. Louis, MO and Karen Kee Oliver and her husband, Marquam Riddell Oliver, M.D. of Salt Lake City, UT: beloved nephews and niece, Charles Wheeler and Wyatt Andrew Frost, Samuel Augustus and Kelsey kee Oliver; aunts and Uncles including Linda Kee and William Benjamin Hawfield of Charlotte; and cousins including Lindsay Kee Hawfield of Washington, DC and Amy Hawfield and William James Watson of Raleigh, NC.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. James F. Boyd and the dedicated nurses and staff at Oncology Specialists of Charlotte, P.A. and at Hospice of Charlotte.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2001 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1000 East Morehead St., Charlotte, NC with the Reverend Dr. guy D. Griffith officiating. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall following the service.

Grateful for the opportunity St. Mary's School gave Ann at an important time in her life, the family request that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to St. Mary's School, Scholarship Endowment, 900 Hillsborough St., Raleigh, NC 27603.
