Christy, Terry Lewis
MOORESVILLE - Terry Lewis Christy, 40, of Foursquare Road, Mooresville died Saturday, January 27, 2001 at his residence.

Born July 28, 1960 in Mooresville, he was the son of the late Kenneth Edward `Red' Christy and Joyce Caldwell Christy. He was the owner and operator of R. & T Salvage and a graduate of South Iredell High School.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife Marsha McCune Christy; son, Michael Shane Christy of the home; brother, Kenneth E. Christy, Jr. of Mooresville; and sister, Patty C. Gleaton of Mooresville.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m., Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at the Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Elwood Ammons officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

The Christy family is being served by Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville.

Griffin, Lois Faye Walden
MARSHVILLE - Mrs. Lois Faye Walden Griffin, 87, died Saturday at Autumn Care Nursing Center. Mrs. Griffin was born September 23, 1913 in Union County, daughter of the late James David and Lydia Esther Bennett Waden, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Griffin was preceded in death by her husband, James Loyd Griffin and four brothers: Raymond Walden, Junior Waden, Vance Walden, Dub Treadaway. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the McEwen Colonial Chapel in Monroe, with the Rev. Robert Latta officiating, interment will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. Mrs. Griffin is survived by one son: Bill Griffin and wife Dianne of Marshville, NC, one daughter: Betty Jean Love and husband Wilbert of Weddington, NC, five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, a special friends: George Brooks of Marshville, NC, three brothers: Jack Walden of Moore Haven, FL, Brevard Moore, Jimmy Walden both of Mornoe, NC.

Memorials may be made to: Spencer Griffin Fund, % Macedonia Baptist Church, 1024 Stack Road, Monroe, NC, 28112. The family of Mrs. Griffin will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service hour at the McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe.

Biddix, Dollie Jane Lowery
MARION - Dollie Jane Lowery Biddix died Jan. 26, 2001. Funeral was Sunday in Westmoreland Chapel. Westmoreland Funeral Home is assisting the family.

KANNAPOLIS - Mrs. Mabel Harrison Flint, age 89, died January 28, 2001. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at All Saints Episcopal Church. Visitation will be after the service in the Church Parlor. Wilkinson Funeral Home is in charge.

Arnett, Douglas Ray
HUDSON - Douglas Ray Arnett, 30, died January 27, 2001. Funeral is 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pendry's Chapel. Visitation is 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Pendry's Funeral Home.

HIDDENITE - Claudette Lackey Nancy, 63, died January 28, 2001. Funeral is 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sulphur Springs Baptist. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. Jan. 29, 2001 at Chapman Funeral Home.

Howard, Phillip Dearl
HEATH SPRINGS - Mr. Phillip Dearl Howard, 49, died Saturday. Funeral is 11 a.m. Monday from Crestview Baptist Church. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

GASTONIA - Mrs. Deborah Maners, age 47, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Ward funeral service.

Liner, Ruby Carnes
GASTONIA - Mrs. Ruby Carnes Liner, 90, formerly of 4213 South New Hope Rd., died Sunday, January 28, 2001 at Brian Center Health and rehabilitation. Arrangements are incomplete at this time. McLean Funeral Directors is in charge.

Hovis, Kathleen (Kitty) Helms
GASTONIA - Kathleen (Kitty) Helms Hovis, 73, died Saturday, January 27, 2001. She was born on November 16, 1927 in Gaston, NC. Visitation will be at the home, 2404 Elizabeth Circle. Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Greene funeral service (Southside Chapel). The Rev. James Drennan will officiate. Burial will be in Gaston Memorial Park. The pallbearers will be, Chris Clemmer, Russell Clemmer, Steve Clemmer, Mark Gibby, Dennis Hovis, Derek Hovis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney & Revis Camp Helms; a brother, Frank Helms and 3 sisters, Blanche Edwards, Wilma Falls, and Maude Gamble.

She is survived by her husband, Alfred Harold Hovis of the home; 3 sons, Blair Hovis of Bessemer City, Lee Hovis of Gastonia and David Hovis of Stanley; daughter, Angela Owens of Gastonia; brother (Pete) Helms of Oak Ridge, TN; 3 sisters, Helen Slankas of Lawerenceburg, TN, Emma Helms and Gloria Dean Helms both of Gastonia; grandchildren, Brent, Dennis, Derek, Brandos, and Brittany Hovis, Steve, Chris, Russell Clemmer, Krissy Payne, and Mckayla Owens; great grandchildren, John and Ashley Hayner, Taylor Hovis, and Michael Clemmer.

Reba Ray Goff
GASTONIA - Mrs. Reba Ray Goff died January 27, 2001. Funeral is 2 p.m. Monday at Ward Funeral Home Chapel.

She was the daughter of the late Major D. Ray and Pearl Savage. She was of the Baptist Faith. She was retired Ti-Caro.

She is survived by her husband, Henry G. Goff; sons, Steve Goff of Crouse, NC, Tony Goff of Cramerton, NC, and Rick Goff of Gastonia, NC; sisters, Francis Wineberger, Tampa, FL, Ora Mae Mauney, Fairplay, SC, Lucille Herron, Gastonia, NC, Glenda Looper, Gastonia, NC, Rachel Risher, Stanley, NC, late sisters, Annabelle Ray Panther & Elsie Godfrey, brother, James Michael Ray, Kings Mountain; 8 grandchildren, 23 nieces or nephews.

Webb, Pearl Philbeck
ELLENBORO - Mrs. Pearl Philbeck Webb, 78, died Sunday, January 28, 2001. Funeral is 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Corinth Baptist Church. Visitation will be on Monday 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. at The Padgett and King Mortuary.

CHATTANOOGA, TN - Loyd W. Witherspoon, 86, died January 27, 2001. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Carpenter's Funeral Home.

Crawford, Lula Jane
CONCORD - Mrs. Lula Jane Crawford, 83, died Sunday, January 28, 2001. Funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation is 9:30-11 a.m. Tuesday at Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord, NC.

Giles, Loman
CRAMERTON - Loman Giles, 79, of 70 Fourth St., died Saturday, January 27, 2001 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

A native of Bluefield West Virginia, he was a son of the late David Crockett and Cordelia Smith Giles He was a retired textile employee, a well known brick mason, a Navy Veteran having served in the Caribean during WWII and a member of Riverside Baptist Church in Cramerton where he was a deacon.

Surviving are his wife, Geneva Holden Giles, one son and daughter-in-law, Denis and Holly Giles of Roanoke, VA, one brother, Irvin Giles of Johnson City, TN, two sisters Arlecy Moore of Cramerton, and Juanita Lane of Gastonia, two grandchildren Amy and Stephen Giles.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. today at Riverside Baptist Church with the he Rev. Allen Lefler and Rev. Clarence Mooris, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Scott Wilbanks, Ricky Bailey, Randy Mooris, John Bartlett, Dennis Merck, Dennis Evans, and Junior Stevens. Honorary pallbearers will be The Bill Murray Sunday School Class.

Memorials may be made to Riverside Baptist Church 76 Riverside Dr., Cramerton, NC 28032.

DENTON - Mrs. Faye Marie Morris Leonard died January 27, 2001. Funeral is 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. tonight at Ridge Funeral Home. Arrangements are by Ridge Funeral Home.

Ashton, Kirk Samuel
Mr. Kirk Samuel Ashton, age 50, of Charlotte, died suddenly at Carolinas Medical Center on Saturday, January 27, 2001.

A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Ashton will be conducted 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 30 from the graveside at Elmwood Cemetery with the Reverend Ted Troutman officiating. The Ashton family will receive friends from 11:00-12:00 Tuesday at the Charlotte Chapel of McEwen funeral service, 727 E. Morehead Street.

Mr. Ashton was born in Charlotte, August 27, 1950, son of John Ashton and the late Inez Dellinger Ashton. Kirk received his BA from UNC-Charlotte and an MA degree from the University of Cincinnati. He began his career as a fund raiser for Planned Parenthood, then worked in St. Louis and Cincinnati before returning to Charlotte. In the early 1980's, he opened and managed Women's and Family Healthcare. His clinic treated thousands of patients over the years with the assistance of wonderful, dedicated doctors.

Surviving Mr. Ashton are his father, John Ashton; brother, Kent Ashton, and wife Jackie; nephew, Jack Ashton; long-time friend and companion, Eva Nove; and former wife Carla M. Ashton.

Memorial donations may be directed to The Salvation Army, PO Box 31443, Charlotte, NC 28231 or to the American Heart Association, 1229 Greenwood Cliff, Suite 109, Charlotte, NC 28204.

Arrangements are by McEwen Funeral and Cremation Service, Charlotte Chapel.

Claxton, Lily Honeycutt
Mrs. Lily Honeycutt Claxton, 84, of Cornelius, died January 28, 2001 at Mercy Hospital. Born January 23, 1917 in Concord, NC, she was daughter of the late Conley H. Honeycutt and Pearl Martin Honeycutt. She was a graduate of Charlotte Tech High School Class of 1936. For 27 years, she worked at Montaldos of Charlotte and later worked at BB&T; where she retired in 1982. After retirement, she worked part time for the Leader Magazine and then Neil Drug Store as secretary. Mrs. Claxton was a member of Lake Norman Baptist Church, a member of the Adult Sunday School Class, a member of the Young at Heart group, a member of the Jolly Travelers, and a past president of the Charlotte Credit Women's Breakfast Club.

Survivors include her husband of 36 years, Jamell P. Claxton; sisters, Juanita H. Barrett of Charlotte, and Nancy H. McKeown and husband, Dean, of Charlotte; brother-in-law, Murphy Claxton of Austell, GA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Honeycutt Rhodes.

funeral service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 31, 2001 at Lake Norman Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Blanton officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 PM at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the service at the church.

Memorials may be made to Lake Norman Baptist Church Library Fund, 7921 Sam Furr Road, Huntersville, NC 28078.

Forbis, Helen Foard
Mrs. Helen Foard Forbis, 80, of Mint Hill, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, January 28, 2001 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Mrs. Forbis was born January 31, 1920 in Union County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Buren R. Foard and Naomi Horton Foard. She graduated from Indian Trail High School and Geyor Business College in Charlotte. Helen enjoyed her years of employment. She retired from First Presbyterian Church of Charlotte, but was always a homemaker. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. Her grandchildren all fondly called her `'Forbis."

Helen had a wonderful attitude toward life. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. Before her illness she was an active and very loyal member of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church and Presbyterian Women, serving as circle chairperson. She sang in the church choir for over 40 years, and was a Sunday School teacher, member of the Fred Brown Sunday School Class, The Jolly Good Timers and the Ding a Ling Band. Helen enjoyed sewing, cooking, traveling and especially spending time at our mountain log cabin in beautiful Ashe County.

A service to celebrate the life of Helen Forbis will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 31, 2001 from the sanctuary of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church with The Reverend Doctor John Y. Todd, III, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call on the Forbis family beginning at 7:00 PM and ending at 9:00 PM Tuesday evening at McEwen Funeral Services, Mint Hill Chapel. Cousins will be serving as Pallbearers and Honorary pallbearers will be The Fred Brown S.S. Class and the Sanctuary Choir.

Mrs. Forbis is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, H.B. Forbis; three loving children: Janet Forbis Mullis and her husband, Bob; Gary B. Forbis and his wife, Sheila; Richard H. "Rick" Forbis and his wife, Jamie, all of Mint Hill; nine grandchildren; Bruce Mullis, Dr. Brent Mullis, The Reverend Baron Mullis, Brandon Mullis, Julie Mullis, Alex Forbis, Eric Forbis, Jacob Forbis, Christopher Forbis; brother, B.R. Foard and wife, Virginia; sister, Carmen Foard Cuthbertson both of Indian Trail; sisters-in-law, Geneva Foard and Marcie Foard of Charlotte; brother-in-law, Ray Kimbrel of Charlotte and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sisters, Christine Foard Kimbrel of Charlotte; Marie Foard of Indian Trail; brothers, Boyce Foard and Dewitt Foard of Charlotte.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Dr. Jonathan Levine and to the wonderful caring nurses who took such loving care of Helen at home: Tina, Jennifer, Wendy, Gail, Shirley and her caregiver Anita.

Memorials may be made in remembrance of Mrs. Helen Foard Forbis to Philadelphia Presbyterian Church Music Ministry, Post Office Box 23150, Charlotte, NC 28227 or Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 E. Seventh Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
