Lovingood, Cordin William
TERRELL - Mr. Cordin William Lovingood, 80, of Terrell, NC died Sunday, January 28, 2001 at his residence. Son of the late Nathan Lovingood and Mary Gibby Lovingood, he was born May 7, 1920 in Robbinsville, NC. He was a member of Sherrills Ford Presbyterian, retired from Chemspun Mills, and a Veteran of WWII U.S. Army serving during D-Day Invasion.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Wray Lovingood; son, Jerry Lovingood of Charlotte; stepson, Eddie Harvel and wife, Janet of Terrell; daughter, Hazel Whitely and husband, Terrell of Albemarle; sisters, Mrs. Talley Norket of Statesville, and Mrs. Irene Clark of Gastonia.

A graveside service will be 2:00pm Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at Providence Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Joey Byrd officiating.

Memorials may be made to Sherrills Ford Rescue Squad, 4385 Mt. Pleasant Road, Sherrills Ford, NC 28673.

Raymer Funeral Home in Huntersville is serving the family of Mr. Lovingood.

Lane, MayBelle Davis
UNION MILLS - MayBelle Davis Lane, 79, of 5208 U.S. Hwy 64, died Jan. 28, 2001.

Funeral is 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cane Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Earl Waters, Re. Lance Scarlet and Evangelist John Hutchins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Crowe's Funeral Chapel, Rutherfordton.

Mrs. Lane was born June 13, 1921 in Rutherford. She was a member of Cane Creek Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and furniture factory worker.

Survivors include her husband, Samuel Carl Lane of Union Mills; son, Monty Lane of Boiling Springs; daughter, Brenda Sigmon of Conover; son-in-law, Kim Sigmon of Conover; sister, J.B. Davis of Union Mills; sister, Mary lee Lane of Union Mills; grandsons, Daniel Dimsdale of Rutherfordton and James Dimsdale of Boiling Springs; granddaughter, Lindsey Lane of Boiling Springs; grandson, Scott Lane of Morganton; granddaughter, Kaylah Sigmon of Conover; daughter-in-law, Donna Lane of Boiling Springs.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cane Creek Baptist Church, 151 Cane Creek Mt. Rd., Union Mills, NC 28167.

Conrad, Robert Lee
WEST END - Robert Lee Conrad, 66, died Mon., Jan. 29, 2001. Graveside services will be held 11 AM Wed., Jan. 31, 2001 at the West End Cemetery. Visitation is 7-9 PM Tues. Boles Funeral Home at Seven Lakes.

Redfearn, Betty
WINGATE - Mrs. Betty Redfearn, of Wingate, N.C., died Monday, January 29, 2001 at her home. Funeral services are incomplete. Grier funeral service is in charge.

Williams, Coy McKiever
WINSTON-SALEM - Mr. Coy McKiever Williams, 73, of Winston-Salem died Monday, January 29, 2001 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born May 10, 1927 in Forsyth County to the late Pleasant Payne and Bessie Davis Williams. Mr. Williams served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was retired from First Union Bank with 26 years service, he later retired from Setzer Hardware Company. Mr. Williams was a member of Waughtown Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Paul Williams.

Surviving are his wife, Arvella Brown Williams of the home; a daughter, Janet Van Dagna and husband Jerry of Charlotte; a sister, Juanita Boner of Winston-Salem and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel by Rev. Joe McWethy. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to Waughtown Baptist Church, 1538 Waughtown Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27107.

Herzig, Caroline Shields
YORK - Caroline Shields Herzig, age 84, died Saturday, January 27, 2001 at Wynwood Assisted Living in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was the wife of the late Dr. Buell G. Herzig. Born in Dawson, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late John Angustus and Marie Cheatham Shields. She moved to Waycross, Georgia, in 1930 and it was her home for almost 65 years.

Mrs. Herzig was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Waycross. She graduated from Shorter College in Rome, Georgia. She was past president of the Waycross Service League and Magnolia Garden Club and was a member of the Colonial Dames of America. She retired from the Ware County School System after 16 years of teaching. She was devoted to both her family and her students.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Herzig Hood and husband Bill of Fort Mill, South Carolina; her son, Buell Shields Herzig of Orlando, Florida; three wonderful grandchildren, Caroline Hood Simas and husband David of Charlotte, North Carolina; Aleene Hood Miller and husband Douglas of Georgetown, South Carolina, and Shields Herzig of Orlando, Florida; two great-grandchildren, Davis Walker Simas and William Joseph Simas; loving friends and care-givers.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at First United Methodist Church, Waycross, Georgia on Sunday, February 4, at 3:00 PM, followed by visitation at the church. Burial will be private. Music Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, PO Box 62, Waycross, Georgia 31502-0062 or Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 East Seventh Street, Charlotte, North Carolina 28204.

Carolina Funeral & Cremation Center is entrusted with local arrangements.

Ruth M. Kutz,
Ruth M. Kutz, 85, died Saturday, January 27, 2001 at Mercy Hospital. Prayer service is 1:00 PM Friday, February 2, at Hankins & Whittington Dilworth Chapel, 1111 East Blvd. Survivors include her daughter, Rita Alspach.

Bowden, Leroy
Mr. Leroy Bowden, Jr., 51, of 5800 Eastbrook Rd., Charlotte, NC died January 29, 2001 at Carolinas Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete at this time. Richmond Funeral Home is serving the Bowden family.

Caldwell, Mary Lee
Mrs. Mary Lee Caldwell, 95, of Beverly Health Care Renaissance, Charlotte, NC died January 29, 2001 at the rest home. Arrangements are incomplete at this time. Alexander Funeral Home is serving the Caldwell family.

Cheatham, harles Windom
STYLs voided here ELMONT harles Windom Cheatham, 52, of 328 Ferrell Ave. died Jan. 28, 2001, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

Funeral is 2 p.m. Wednesday at Carothers Funeral Home, Belmont. Burial will be in Gaston Memorial Park.

A native of Cherokee County, NC, he was the son of the late Windom L. Cheatham. He was employed by the City of Belmont. He was a Vietnam veteran and a member of American Legion Post 144.

Survivors include his mother, Irene Voyles Cheatham of Belmont; brothers, Roger Cheatham of Charlotte and Ronnie Cheatham of Belmont; sisters, Jean Reep and Mary Evans, both of Gastonia, and Annette Cheatham of the home.

Drummond, Mrs. Patricia
Mrs. Patricia Drummond, 58, of 4428 Tipperary Place, Charlotte, NC died January 26, 2001 at Carolinas Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete. Grier funeral service is in charge of arrangements.

Fairchild, Douglas Herman
Douglas Herman Fairchild, 70, of Buffalo Creek Rd., Lake Lure, NC, formerly of Michigan, died Sunday, January 21, 2001, at UNC Hospital, Chapel Hill.

A native of Flushing, Michigan, he was the son of the late Herman and Myrtle Fairchild. He was a graduate of Wayne State University in Detroit and was the owner of D&H; Plating Supplies, Inc.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Wininger Fairchild of Lake Lure; two sons, Stephen of Niceville, Fl and John of Farwell, Michigan; two daughters, Janice Alvaro of Clinton Township, Michigan and Rebecca Fairchild of Charlotte, NC; six grandsons; four granddaughters; one brother, Dr. Oney Fairchild of Weddington, NC; three sisters, Margie Coffey of Braselton, GA, Emmajean Fisher of Flushing, Michigan, and Maizie Gorecki of Mt. Morris, Michigan.

He was active throughout his life in churchwork, service organizations such as the Gideons International, the Kiwanis, and the Lions Club, recently serving as president of the Lake Lure Lions Club and being named Lion of the Year.

A memorial service will be held at the Fairfield Mountains Chapel, Thursday, January 25 at 4 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Lions Club of Lake Lure, Gideons International, or the Memorial Garden of Fairfield Mountains Chapel, Lake Lure, NC.

Godfrey, Brascie "Tony"
Mr. Brascie "Tony" Godfrey, age 39, died Jan. 29, 2001. Funeral services are incomplete and will be announced by Long & Son Mortuary.

Gooden, Jesmer Goode
Mrs. Jesmer Goode Gooden age 81, of 2115 Edison St., Charlotte, died Monday, January 29, 2001 at the Charlotte Health Care Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced by Alexander funeral service.

Graves, Thomas Lindsey
Thomas Lindsey Graves of 8351 Houndstooth Dr., Charlotte, NC died January 30, 2001 at New Hope Living Center, Durham, NC. Arrangements are incomplete at this time. Alexander Funeral Home is serving the family.

Greene, Andre "A.J." Dwight
Andre "A.J." Dwight Greene, 15 of 242 W. 28th St., #B, died January 24, 2001 at Carolinas Medical Center.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, February 1, 2001 at St. Paul Baptist Church, 1401 North Allen Street. Dr. Lloyd Morris officiating. Dr. Gregory Moss, Pastor. Visitation begins at 1 PM.

Survivors are grandmother, Darlene Talley; brother Dantravisus Williams, mother Vicky Williams; favorite cousins, Porsha, Tanisha and Eric Williams. Many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. An avid TV fan, he loved to watch wrestling and enjoyed eating his favorite foods. Andrew was a student at Harding High School.

The family would like to express their deepest and most sincere appreciation for the many kind words and donations made to them on Andre's behalf. God bless all of you!

Harris, Lillie Ree
Mrs. Lillie Ree Harris, age 67, died January 29, 2001 at Presbyterian Hospital. Funeral 3:30 PM Saturday at McEwen Derita Chapel. Visitation 7-9 PM Friday at the funeral home.

Hegarty, Daniel E.
Daniel E. Hegarty, Sr., 95, of Charlotte died at South Minister Retirement Community Saturday, January 20, 2001.

Mr. Hegarty was born in Sommerville, Mass., June 18, 1905, son of the late John Joseph Hegarty and Mary Ellen Sullivan Hegarty. He was an Executive Vice President and General Sales Manager of Walter Baker Chocolate a division of Kraft Foods until his retirement. Dan was predeceased by his wife of 63 years Kathryn Whalen Hegarty in 1995.

Survivors include his sons, Lawrence Hegarty and his wife Constance of Naples, FL, and Daniel E. Hegarty, Jr. and his wife Gloria of Wilmington, NC; three grandchildren, Neale Whalen Hegarty, William D. Hegarty and Michael J. Hegarty; two nephews, Lawrence and Richard Ring, and his niece Mary Ellen Hegarty.

A family memorial Mass will be held at St. Therese Catholic Church in Wrightsville Beach, NC. Interment will be in Cedar Park Cemetery in Hudson, NY.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to St. Therse Catholic Church Building Fund, 209 South Lumina, Wrightsville Beach, NC 28480.

Arrangements are in the care of Hankins & Whittington, Dilworth Chapel, 1111 East Blvd.

Johnson, Lola B.
Mrs. Lola B. Johnson, 89, 300 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC died January 30, 2001 at Beverly Health Care Center. Arrangements are incomplete at this time. Grier funeral service is in charge.

Johnson, Reginald J. (Reggie)
Reginald J. (Reggie) Johnson, age 45 of Indianapolis, formerly of Charlotte, N.C., died January 26, 2001.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, February 1, 2001 at Long & Son Mortuary Chapel, Charlotte, N.C. with Bishop Charles L. Belton. Burial will be at Beatties Ford Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 1:00-1:55 PM Thursday at Long & Son Mortuary Chapel. The family will be at the home of Dianne Abraham.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Doris A. Johnson of Laurelton, NY; 2 sisters, Mrs. Seteria Johnson Toney of Washington, DC, Mrs. Sheryl Johnson Flores (George) of Laurelton, NY; step son, Mr. Jared Helms (Katie) of Charlotte; 2 uncles, Mr. Roy L. Williams (Christine) of Charlotte, Mr. Willie Gene Williams of Edison, NJ; aunt Mrs. Shirley Williams of Charlotte; nephew, Mr. Gabriel Hamblin of Laurelton, NY and niece, Miss Siera G. Toney of Washington, DC.
